berem: Do parents still allow their wards go to unity schools? Gone are those days when people crave for unity schools.i went to a unity girls' school between 91 and 97.back then candidate's result were been bought over.i scored 544 in my first attempt in pry 5,got admission in fggc owerri and before i knew what was happening my prospectus was that of fggc bauchi.my parents refused me going.i repeated the exam in pry 6,scored 556,got the same admission in fggc owerri, and got a prospectus of fggc gusau! Well,i had to go to zamfara state finally.back then there was massive corruption in the federal ministry of education.am shocked that unity schools now use quota system for admission.back then it wasnt really like that.it such a shame.unity schools have lost its glory.Did my common entrance in the same year. Was in Pry 5 too. I think I scored 515 or so. I was the ninth best in my school. The two pry 5 pupil that beat me were both females. Is it really true that female kids are actually more brilliant than male children ? any way, was given admission in FGC Jos but didn't go. I went to the FGC in my home state. and by the way. Am surprised, yu said you paid 1,900 as school fee. In Js 1 I paid 400 and something, and it wasn't until js 2 before it was increased to N700. I never got to pay more than a thousand until my SSS years. I used to think the sch fees were uniform . Aafulenu: naa the total was 600 not four hundred cos i can remember i scored 570 and i was the best in my state then. You brilliant gaan ni ! 570 upon 600 ! wow , great. So what University did you finally attend and what course did you study ? Where you able to carry your brilliance over to JAMB or did JAMB show u who the 'almighty' is ? |
4llerbuntu: In case you are wondering why im so chuffed about this, the thing is:bro, please be cautious, don't get too excited. You ever tried working on Maemo ? It was essentially the same concept. Linux based ('open source' ?) OS which allows you to hack to your fill. I invested so much of my time in exploring Maemo. Installed a debian image OS on the device. Ran desktop applications directly through my debian on the N900. I did a dual boot of android and Maemo, way before android devices became really popular . . . . And what did I get for all my effort ? The Maemo got discountinued . . . With that 'bitter experience' , I have become skeptical of 'wonderful' ideas that are yet to gain ground. So for now am sticking with android development. While following the Ubuntu idea (And all other innovation) from the corner of my eyes |
fittty: Can someone please translate all these into english for me?hmmmm . . . . .let me try it in lay-girl's terminology Let's say you normally download Pictures of Kim Kardashian and Knaye, and collect tuface's song from some of your friends, while ripping your DVDs to store movies featuring Segun Arinze and Tonto Dike and once in a while when you remember you need to pass your exams, you download some textbooks as PDF. The problem : Since you are a bit disorganised, you end up scattering this files all over your system and it sometimes becomes impossible to find them when you need them. Solution : Relax ! How ? It allows you to create/specify a folder - let's call the folder 'notorious big'. It also requires that you specify which folder you want each file type to go(e.g. music, video, pdf e.t.c.). So whenever you get a new file into your system, just drop it into 'notorious' folder and pronto, it is automatically sent to the right kind of folder ensuring easy access when you need the files. N.B. - if you've ever used free download manager, it might give you a bit of an idea |
Wow ! You guys are great ! LordZouga et al, You can't imagine how proud I am of you guys. That's what has been lacking in the Naija tech space. Originality and the willingness to contribute rather than just consume. Great Job ! |
Rocktation: Oh it's nothing, Pak. She's always had that effect on almost everyone that sees her or her pic. Sadly though, no benefit can be gotten from this again. She got hooked in April, 2k12.Damn ! So you mean I was about 9 months late. ![]() Goes to bed a sad man How come life can be so tough at times |
@Rocktation, Please dont mind my following you around but . . . .. hmmmmmm, Its like I got some serious stuff to clarify Just saw your response on the other thread and had to follow your last post . . . . that bff of yours, is she by any chance single !!! I mean like seriously, that chick must hav dropped straight from heaven |
birdman: At your age, I doubt you have enough life experiences to be committed to any school of thought. This also applies to christians/muslims etc btw. Like one old man said, by the time you start to figure out what life is all about, its almost over. You're beginning to sound like my dad during the later part of his life |
Seun: I doubt it, I've been an atheist for too long to have any reasonable doubts. From your recent posts on Nairaland, you sound like someone undergoing some sort of transformation . . . |
byvan: Different strokes for different folks anyway.I married below 25 to a man only five years older and I must confess that the only regret is that we didn't do it earlier. We were mentally prepared to be together. My MIL cannot help commending us as she has never smelt any disagreement b/w us.The points u mentioned as the demerits are not age specific.Am pretty much the family accountant,so I don't know what you are talking about materialism.Am pretty enough but I truly believe that my hubby is the only man that is worth my time.WOW ! You're making me jealous ! You guys are really wonderful Wish you more sweeter years of marriage I sincerely pray that four years down the line, I will have a testimony like yours (and even better) |
@RockTation Wow ! really enjoyed your thread ! went thru all the pix and permit to say you are really beautiful ![]() and by the way who is that drop dead gorgeous, totally awesome chick beside you ![]() ?Happy Birth Day and Happy New Year |
hisblud: The face page is no more about the accident but jeep. Did any one see the back tire? You have a point here bro, of all the rebuttals here, yours was the most intelligent. I wish more young Nigerians will think and respond like this especially on NL. However, to those rejoicing at their misfortune, except you have a documented or personal grievance against Wada, the ADC (who lost his life) and the driver, you should remember that what goes around comes around. I know next to nothing about kogi politics, neither do I have anything against the people involved, so I find it alarming and saddening that people will just come in here and start 'rejoicing' about the death of someone they don't know. Almost all Nigerians have at least an extended family relative in one position of power or the other (in fact, in a way, we are all leaders). I am against bad leadership but I can't just start wishing people ill because of their position in society without having any knowledge of their track record. Remember that some of us typing on NL today might be elevated by God to prominent leadership positions tomorrow. |
Nigerians are wonderful people . . . an accident occurred with a sitting Governor seriously wounded and reports of fatality. And the major argument point is whether the car is a JEEP or an SUV. How caring !!! I bet when we resolve that, we'll also try to find out what the Governor ate in the morning before the Journey, Garri or pounded yam ? and who cooked it, is it the first wife or second wife ? Well anyway from my own point of view, that car looks like a volkswagen beetle ! So question is, how does that improve Wada's medical condition ? |
I have a problem with this kind of headline. Its just like saying 'Wife of a minister kidnapped in Southern Nigeria ? or 5 raped in Africa ? I mean what is Northern Nigeria ? Can't the location or at least the state be specified in the topic/headline to at least give the news the proper perspective. This only feeds into a narrative that Northern Nigeria is filled with barbaric, murderous and senseless group of people, which is very untrue and unfortunate. There are actually many states in Northern Nigeria that are far more peaceful than southern states. Why do you think that when Nigerians from other regions settle in the North, despite the purported violence and insecurity, they find it very difficult to come back ? RIP to the dead. And we pray God grants peace in this country |
Just came back from my Trip peeps. Though I enjoyed the opportunity to explore new places but the trip was not as interesting as I thought and heck, the border crossing can be one major headache. (Though if you have the intention to purchase stuffs then you might appreciate things better If the goal is just to relax for the holiday (and not just explore) then the obudus, tinapa and calabar might just be better options. hope am not a kill joy . . . . . . If you've never been there however, its worth giving it a try ! |
*Kails*:uuuuuuuuuuugh ? Anybody that waits for me might die of starvation. I have the most erratic eating habit. I don't eat before 11.00am and anything after 7.00pm ! |
The riverine areas ain't that far, one and a half hours away probably (from wasimi) or max two hrs. Was there like thrice this yr and the experience was nothing short of splendid
|
@Ishi, I finally saw Wasimi's rusty white signboard last weekend. Must have passed there like 6 times this year but for the first time I wasn't behind the wheels and had the opportunity to take in the scenery. That place must have been one heck of a bush. Seems its closer to Akure than it is to Ondo. @Storyline, without doubt you r fantastic story teller. The best young Nigerian indie literature writer I've seen. P.S. Did you manage to travel to the riverine areas during your service year, ride on the speed boats and all ? |
I agree with Jakumo, Musiwa/Becomerich, Please update us about your presidential ambition and the new satellite maps. Or better still let me set the ball rolling - considering the decision by the US government to send in soldiers to tackle boko haram, what do you think will be the implication on the boundary between dahomey and badagry and the impact on Ikorodu and Kano, also how will the proposed two party system by Pat Utomi (one of your close friends and fellow presidential aspirant) affect the map of Nigeria ? Please nairaland will appreciate your explanations with maps to make your points clearer |
Please don't be offended guys. I just had to bring this 3 year old thread back . 4 pages of high quality entertainment !!! |
debrief08: As soon as I opened this thread I knew I will see what Pastor said yet no interview from Doctors who receieved such a rare medical feat.absolutely fantastic ! You've just done the job for the one million or so intelligent Nigerians reading this article. You've asked the right questions. Without doubt I believe in God, I believe in miracles I believe with God all things are possible but I also 'believe' in the dubiousness of Nigerians. I take this story with a pinch of salt (maybe an entire spoonful actually) I remember the 'mary' story . Once it broke on news line, it became a favorite of even the tabloids. Infact, in this case, its not just the second child 'Ayomikun', am also skeptical about the first 'Ayomide'. The sad part about people like this is that they don't know when to keep their mouth shut (but how will 'God catch them' if they do ?) . . . .anyway, as it is said in this clime. Its 'Innocent' until proven guilty, so for now, I rejoice with her |
Richieboyn: see u wey de correct psn. The bible never said that there were THREE wise men. All it kept on statinq was "WISE MEN." the fact that they presented three qifts doesn't mean they were three in number. You are right |
I am proud ASA is Nigerian !!! |
I believe in divine healing . . . . God does heal people. Am talking from personal experiences |
delors: Jesus was born on the 25th. The 3 wise men met n presented gifts to him the second day....so, its a day believed to be ideal for presenting gifts. Boxed gifts o...not punching your neighbours o...Boxed gifts like this...Mighty gaffe . . . First class graduate, you didn't do your homework well this time around. First off, Jesus wasn't born on any Dec 25 - Nobody conducts a local census in winter(unless you stay in the tropics). And Shepherds don't stay outside watching flocks in freezing cold. two, the three wise men must have presented their gifts between a year or two after Jesus was born, not the next day. They saw his star in the far east and traveled all the way to the middle east. There were no planes nor trains in them days. And after they got to Jerusalem, they still took some time to locate him. So I guess the OP should listen to the inputs of earlier posters |
delors: When you have a headache...is cutting off the head the solution? No! Be informed people...those saying the ban is a welcome development are being myopic...extremely myopic. Lagos is not London, not Toronto, not Tokyo, not Durban...every mega city is unique and different. in China, autorickshaw is being used as a inter-street transit, same in Japan. In Toronto, street cars (train on streets) are used as inter-street transit because of the population. Now, a project to build underground and overhead interstreet trains are nearly completed. in Venice, because of the water streets, boats are used as interstreet transits. Okadas are used in Lagos because of Lagos' peculiar transport system. With this intellectual take of yours, I daresay you have justified the first class degree you got from Obafemi Awolowo University, at least on nairaland. May I ask, are you male or female and what course did you actually study ? |
@virgo, Did you write this ?? really! I think Nigerians always miss the disease and tackle the symptoms. As Seun pointed out, murder is already a punishable offence - so the question is why the continued mob actions ? It points out to something else wrong somewhere. and while you are at it, why not another bill seeking to ban armed robbers killing people and another one banning bad roads (hope you'r getting my drift). We want to take 'action' but actions should be the meaningful ones where our energies are channeled in the right direction. For my views on the menace of jungle justice in Nigeria. Please see the thread post in this link https://www.nairaland.com/1105356/2-robbery-suspects-killed-mob#12994916 |
@OP, Just make sure they don't catch you in Sokoto, you might not live to tell the tale |
