FamilyRe: What Are You Teaching Your Children About Hard Work And Responsibility? by pak: 9:59am On Dec 17, 2012
parisienne: .

Sounds like your doing a great job but be careful when giving financial rewards to children. Understand "intrinsic" versus "extrinsic" motivation. Intrinsic motivation is when people do things because they feel proud of themselves when they do it. They feel a sense of accomplishment and achievement. Extrinsic motivation is when someone does something because of external motivation. For example, they will receive money, a toy or priviledge if they do the task. If you are always rewarding your child with material things, he/she will never learn how to motivate themselves with internal rewards like pride. They also will never learn to value things because there are so many things and nothing is special.
oooh parisienne, that was so wonderful. I could nominate you for nairaland family poster of the year based on this post alone
TravelRe: West Africa Tour by pak: 7:09pm On Dec 16, 2012
wow ! Dextra can't believe am seeing this. I was just about to open a thread like this on advice about travel options.

I actual had a plan to do UK/Dubai with my gf early next year but as fate will have it, we broke up some days ago.

So am actually throwing that out of the window. I just don't think I can bear going through the trip considering it was conceived with two people in mind, so right now am looking for alternatives.

I'll really like to know more about your plans.

P.S. 1 - I actually had sometimes in february in mind but that's no issue, if interesting enough, I can always replan.

p.S. 2 - 100K for 2 weeks ? R u sure that's not going to be enough. I did a trip within Nigeria (to the North east) for business and spent a little more than a week. My expenditure then was somewhat above 70k. How do you intend to go thru Ghana, togo e.t.c for two weeks on 100k ?

P.S. 3 Have you got other willing participants thus far ?

P.S. 4 . . . . lastly I am not a robber as feared by some peeps on this thread been on NL for close to 5/6 years now
TravelRe: The Truth About Living Abroad by pak: 5:53am On Dec 15, 2012
I've been thinking about the issue of what's wrong with Nigeria for a long time. . . . and for now this is the only thing I can come up with (warning - it might sound offensive )

The main problem with the country is not the economy, not the power, not the leadership, not (lack of ) security , roads e.t.c, not poor education , not unemployment.

The main problem is THE PEOPLE, yes Nigerians themselves/ourselves, our mentality, our mindset. Apart from very few, a tiny minority, the thought process of the average nigerian is skewed. Am sorry to say, but sometimes living amongst Nigerians feel like living with animals.

I have always wondered whether its not better to live with 'racist human beings' than to live with animals. Animals who sell of chalks as drugs, kidnap 70 yr old women. Award road contracts 10 times over while people die every day on the same roads. Animals who hold thanksgiving services for thieves who stole and are still stealing, animals who hoard fuel causing artificial scarcity , where ships bigger than buildings dissapear and pay billion as subsidies on products that never exist

I have always been a patriotic Nigerian, but reading this thread/ and so many other incidences have made me to start having doubts about hope for this country.

Don't get me wrong, Nigeria has treated me fine on a personal level, I have been blessed and do not have any material wants right now. I work in a field that is currently booming with opportunities left, right and centre and have risen the corporate leader quite easier than I thought but on a collective/national level we are in the middle of a disaster. I suffer vicariously everyday when I see the needless pain of this society.

I hope the 'reasonable few' can make a desired change and allow the country attain its potential but day by day it seems the odds are stacked. For me, 2015 is the water shed moment - any funny stuff, and am gone from this bedlam

The promasidor guy is being economical with the truth.

Your wife died four months ago and you keep a girl like the one shown in the pix above as a 'househelp' because you don't want to remarry ??

Some things don't seem to connect in this your story. You better come out and tell the 100% truth.

Nightshift: Those defenders you call "Agberos" were Eagles best in Nigeria's best world cup outing. Such are the kind of defenders who have made Italian defence the most dreaded, and the one everyone tries to emulate. Those '94 Eagles defence were well organized and tactical.
Are you that young ?
Of all the defenders mentioned above, only Eguavon was at the USA '94 world cup and how much did that cost us ?

one, he made a reckless challenge that mistakenly fetched an innocent Sunday Oliseh, a yellow card argentina.

two, and the most bitter, He just couldn't resist the wrestlemania urge in extra time against Italy so much so He pulled down an italian attacker in the box, the rest is history, Baggio scored the penalty and Nigeria was out of the mundial.

Please get your facts right

Funny enough, the second team looks stronger (more balanced) than the first
SportsRe: BEHOLD: The Greatest Football Team Ever by pak(op): 3:09pm On Dec 13, 2012
naptu2: I am in love with the strike force of your second team. Van Basten is my all-time football hero. Romario (I'll never forget Man-U vs Barcelona (1994 season Champions League). Honourable mention goes to (Mr) George Weah.

I'll be back with my list.
How in the world did I forget George Oppong Weah (and Batistuta, Lineker and Matthias Sammer). But on a second thougth, who I go remove (ok, maybe Yekini)
SportsRe: BEHOLD: The Greatest Football Team Ever by pak(op): 3:05pm On Dec 13, 2012
NOTES
1. My biggets regret of the enitre list is not putting Van Basten in the first team. He was the most natural top nine of all times. He possessed al the qualities you can imagine in a perfet number nine. Just couldn't bump anyone of that list. I guess Basten is paying for not having any spectacular world cup appearance.

2. Just couldn't pick a coach for the other two teams. So very little to choose between the several options available, Rinus Michels, Mourinho, Hiddink, Jupp Henckyes, Lippi, Cappelo, Trappatoni, Gaurdiola, Beckenbuar but I guess Fergie stands head and shoulders above

3. Rijkaard is definitely not the best right full back of all times, but he was the most versatile footballer of all times. The right full back was just the only position left available for him to fill.

4. I find it extremely painful that Di stefano, Garrincha, Jairzinho, Eusebio, Gordon Banks Abedi Pele, Roger Milla, Henry Thiery, Hagi could not make that list. I was too tired to create a team 4 (maybe somebody else will help me with that).
And by the way, that's our own Rashidi Yekin up there (Admittedly, it was based on quota/home advantage, it should actually have been Samuel Eto)

SportsRe: Is This The Best Green/Super Eagles Team Ever? by pak: 2:27pm On Dec 13, 2012
Nightshift: Eagles best defence must have Yisa Shofoluwe, Bright Omokaro, Christain Chukwu (Stephen Keshi), with Emmanuel Okalla as goalkeeper.
Bright Omokaro, Ademola Adeshina, Sunday Eboigbe (and even Augustine Eguavon) were 'agberos', old school defenders. Butchers masqueraded as footballers.

Yisa Shofoluwe came about 20 years before his time. he was at that time consistently blamed for his laissez faire attitude as a defender, when in actual fact he was a modern wing back who played before the game evolved.

Wouldn't have been out of place in today's champion's league
SportsRe: Is This The Best Green/Super Eagles Team Ever? by pak: 1:07pm On Dec 13, 2012
Abujafood: Mine would be;

Yekini and Kanu in Attack

Mid-field

Amunike left wing
Finidi George Right Wing
Okocha (Central Mid field)
Oliseh (Defensive mid field)

Defence

Left wing (Babayaro)
Right wing (Yobo)
Central (Uche Okechukwu and Taribo west)

Eyeama would be a better choice for goal keeper to Rufai
The rest of your team is very sensible but that bolded part is sinful. You deserve a sucker punch

Its like your memory ony stretches back to France '98. Did you see Maroc '88 and USA '94 at all ? Even Enyeama sef go bow.

Comparing Enyeama to Rufai is like comparing Abu Qaqa to Osama bin laden - You dey kwaze

FamilyRe: What Would You Remember Your Father For? by pak: 12:13pm On Dec 12, 2012
victorian: When I look at the responses on , what you will remember your dad for, it's very little, like 5 or 6posts? But for women, mothers... It's up to 4pages..! And at the end of it all, u read how some men talk so bad about girls with degrading words, and whom will definitely become mothers one day... But as a man, that will become a father one day too... Why can't the non chalant , and annoying attitudes of most men stop for once and be there and caring for their wives and kids... These two posts has made me realize, that men are too laid back in impacting a positive and long lasting values in their households.. A friend of mine, a guy says his dad has stroke, and he doesn't give a damn how he helps himself, cos he ain't going to the dad's house for any helping out... I was angry at him and I asked but why? Your dad is 60yrs and he has been calling yur number , u refuse to answer... He says because he threw him , his siblings and their mother out of his house when they were little and he can't forget those days, his mum struggled alone to cater for 4 kids..I told him to forget the past, forgive him. He was saying with emotions that he will be a good father to his kids and good husband to his wife... Cause little children have eyes and they don't forget what happens between mummy and daddy... He said passionately he wont let his family down... But I insist u must forgive him...there are so many issues like that...
Men , please try and be a good father , good husband, good leader to your families.. Cause it will definitely come back to either hunt or add to yur blessings at old age... It doesn't pay to be mean and selfish... Cause u could end up all alone.....it doesn't.... Peace out.
@Victoria, please can I know a little more about who that friend is ? I think I have heard that same story with all the details exactly in place in real life at some point previously ?

I'll do my best to respond out of respect for those who gave reasonable rebuttal to my earlier posts

toluene12: how can we hear the accused side of the story if he's not arrested. what has been established here is that a lady was assaulted and a tobi obadina was accused as being responsible for the act. he should be invited/arrested for questioning by the police and if he's deemed innocent he will be released.
Most reasonable and intelligent response but I'll prefer the words 'alleged' rather than established. Nothing has been established yet but I still agree with you 100%, the accused should be arrested

truth4meal: words that best describe your insensitivity will best be lifted from your post "Barbaric" and "Primitive" what Truthful and Balanced account do you need from a brutal attack on a lady ? if she is a thief is Tobi a Policeman or is this suppose to be her reward for stealing? what truthful and balanced account are you expecting from an act condemnable by the same bible you irreligiously quoted. well wen something like dis happen to you or someone close we will wait for a truthful and balanced account, wait till we know who the assailant and the OP is before we take any action - you need a truthful and balanced instrument for reasoning
Believe me, the post wasn't insensitive, it was just simply rational.
Almost everyone here has no prior knowledge of Tiwa, or Tobi or Truth4meal.

How do we know if your account is the truth ? How do we know if you are telling a lie or an embellished report ?

I have my fears for Nigeria and Nigerians, the way we react to issues says a lot about who we are as a people. (I can't bet my last kobo that if you didn't embed those pictures, half the people here wouldn't respond the way they did - so what is the justice in that ? ) A case should be judged based on its merits and not on pictures that make us go 'aaahhhh'.

I felt outraged when I saw the pix definitely but is that enough to make me go ahead and condemn a man I know next to nothing about (aside from your four sentences - does that sound reasonable to you or anybody ?)

As Doctokwus pointed out, there was an unmistakable attempt at sensationalism from your end, so it is safe to say that we might have to be cautious trusting your account 100%

And about the issue of if it had happened to a close relative, I am a bit bewildered, Are you for one minute suggesting that if (God forbid) I walk home one day, and I see a loved one lying in a pool of blood and someone nearby says 'oh xyz did it'. Without any prior knowledge of any conflict/confrontation, without any confirmation, I should just take a cutlass and go hack the said 'xyz' down.??

Now am beginning to see why the ALUU fiasco occured . . . . . .

olu4life: Excuse me mr oga,did u skip the part that says Tobi [the bragger] has been harrasin d neighborhoodhuh So its not the first case. Waiting for ur defence
Who said that ? Was it not Truth4meal ?? - Please read my response to truth4meal's retort. And beside I don't have a 'defence', I am not the accused.

But really, Is that how you guys are in real life. An issue occurs, you hear the one part/angle and you are all fired to go and execute vengeance. A bit scary !!!!

You are an intelligent person.

and I totally agree with you. I believe the first thing is to have him arrested and allowed to relate his own account and things are taken on from there . . . . .
Nairaland GeneralRe: The 'Water Babies': 9-months, Cant Walk Or Talk, But Can Swim by pak: 5:56pm On Dec 11, 2012
What ?? is this news huh?

At least in Nigeria , this should not even make back page talkless of front page.

Go to Ilaje/Ese Odo and you'll realise the average 9 month old baby swims (and I ain't fibbing)

Mothers take week old babies with them inside the river when they want to bathe and within weeks (yes, you heard me right) most of these babies can at least float on water.

I don't think there is anybody in a core ilaje village, who can walk but can't swim.

Those guys build houses on water, and any baby who doesn't learn how to swim before walking might eventually drown within a short time.

doctokwus: As comprehension is clearly a problem for u;u are clearly d fool here, double as s hole
Doctokwus, please stop arguing or insulting the people on the thread. They probably can't reason better.

I sometimes feel Nigerians are just barbaric in nature, don't you thinks its way primitive for you to conclude on what happened until more findings on the issue has been made.

We know next to nothing about tiwa banks and Tobi Obadina (and even about the OP - truth4meal), so how can you form conclusions by reading just four paragraphs and 3 pictures.

What doctokwus said is what any reasonable person ought think (at least until we have more information ). Though its painful and annoying but we cannot crucify Tobi Obadina until we hear a TRUTHFUL and BALANCED account of what exactly transpired.

I know I'll get a lot of stick for this from NL peeps but truth is when our words are action are based on pure sentiments we fall out of line with reason.

For those of the christian persuasion - Proverbs 18 v 17 has a word for you on this.
For those that are not, check this link to hear what it says http://bible.cc/proverbs/18-17.htm

Please pass this message on and stop the plans of the evil.
Many people here need to stop hyperventilating.

it takes someone troubled by 'demons' to write such jargon in a book expected to be read by kids (and I use the word demon in a wide context).

No sane person, I repeat no sane person can put such 'diabolic' inscription in anybook , whether to prevent piracy or not, especially if that book is to be read by children.

I am not by any means a superstitious person but I guess, if the allegations are indeed true (that it appears when the book is photocopied) then one can rightly assume that the author had an ulterior and darker motive for typing such . . . . what a psycho !!
