I agree with peterwins 200% By the way what kind of people send 100K pounds/dollar to others to start a business without knowing anythin about their ability to run such a business or ppl they haven't met in ten years ? Did it occur to you that the relative you are sending money to might not be actual dupes but poor businessmen ? @bigheart - sorry to hear your tale but you need to quit complaining . . .you most likely had 'shitty' business plans that would have failed even if you were in Nigeria. What do you know about commercial digital photography ? what do you know about transport business ? Did you expect to just 'throw' money to Nigeria and hope it suddenly starts yielding fruits ? Why should you give a recommendation for a lady you didn't know too well ? On what basis did you recommend her ? as in what were the references ? Is selling cars in Nigeria beans ? I mean we falter at the basic principles of life and dealing with people and then come here spewing Nigeria this , Nigeria that . . . . and to those of you that loan others money and they have refused to/are unable to pay back. That is a good example of life schooling for you . . . . . THERE IS JUST ONE SIMPLE PRINCIPLE, NEVER LOAN ANY AMOUNT YOU ARE NOT READY TO GIVE AWAY - 'SIMPLES' and stop coming to tell funny stories on Nland . . . Has it not occurred to you that 'most' people who find themselves in a situation where they need to borrow money are also likely to be in the situation where they can't pay back ? I believe the greatest way to live a relevant life is by reaching out to help others, 'even when you eat alone, you'll still die one day'. It doesn't matter whether the person is in Nigeria, Malawi or the US. We just need to apply basic wisdom in relating with peopl who need our help. My little mind tells me that most/some people have joined the bandwagon simply because they never really wanted to reach out to others in the first place |
You guys are deviating from the OP's question. I most say I agree with logica. . . 1. The way PHP handles sessions (or better still the way most programmers use session in PHP) introduce a major security hole in applications. Many don't realise that Sessions are 'super, super global variables'. Run as much as you can away from them. Use your DB, lang files, functions, classes to move data around. let sessions only store state data and not any other. My two cents To the OP, as spike said get the SERVER['php_self'] but I'll say preferably append it to the login page as a url var. if you feel paranoid about that, then encrypt before you append, avoid sessions as much as possible. . . . . |
Vikin: My dear, it's 65% chance that you smell....even if you live in the coldest region of the world....get a deodorant and use it.I hate to deceive myself but I might be one of the 35%. Because of my peculiar habit, I actually carry a deodorant in my glove compartment all the time but I just use it sparingly. Have not used it today and am still in the office !!!!! And as I said earlier, I once had a roomie who had a strong odour way back in school. Many of our pals complained about him openly but none ever mentioned any to me. Maybe I just don't have a strong odour ! nwando: Please use the deodorant I beg of youYou are right about that. and that's why I made the earlier post in the first place. Even if you have an odour, you probably won't know it (apart from observing the smell of your used clothing items). And besides am mostly in parts of the country with low humidity. The last time I was in Lagos, I had my bath like 4/5 times a day. Anyway, I'll just try to pay more attention to it. Thanks baby_123: You probably smell like MAD! I hardly sweat and I know body odour will come if I don't use a deodorant. Except I stay in bed all day under the AC. As long as you are older than 13, then you have a body odour. They were probably trying to hint you, but you refused to take a hint.loool.Na you go smell like mad Didn't you see my niece (Nwando is the name of my only niece) telling me I'm one of the blessed 35% and am just 12 plus.Anyway truth is I have a Mum and sisters with particularly strong sense of smell and I've seen them complain severely and severally about ppl's body odour, infact one of my sisters won't even come near you if you have an odour ! but never have they once complained to me. |
Are ther people without body odour ? Reason why I am asking is cos I hardly use deodorants - mine (deodorants) last for months sometimes. And nobody (I mean nobody) as ever complained about my oduor and I have been in places and groups where people were advising others about their odour but never me. You guys are scaring me, are you saying everybody who doesn't use a deodorant smells ? |
leocolin: How does fasting related to the issue? Na wa 4 some people..LWKMDWhat I meant was - she needs help and she needs it fast. Are you from Mountain of fire, wetin carry your mind go fasting ? |
~vicky~:You need help and fast (most importantly before you get married) |
lordZOUGA: he is now corrected.http://steve-yegge..com/2006/03/execution-in-kingdom-of-nouns.html This particular article gained www notoriety for giving java the KO punch. @mods - you can close this thread after everyone might have read the article |
Sisi_Kill: Eeeya, even when they are celebrating/happy they still look....harsh (for lack of a better word). That is the cummulative effect of several years of suffering. 'sufayo' is written in every vein of the body. in defensive mode . . .are you not married to a Nigerian Man ? (exits thread in search of the latest Nigerian babe joke) |
Shollypopz: Duh! It's quite apparent. In fact, the average "Ekitian" is brighter than the average "whatever state u come from"!if itsmodella, slimyem or abil where from Ekiti. Maybe I might buy into the OP's assertion . . . |
Shollypopz: hahahahaha...I died laughing @ some statesAre you one of the bright ones from Ekiti ? . . .. just asking |
Redmosquito: Filters 99.99% of germs! D remaining 0.01% that make it through go bad gan!@red mosquito, I can now confirm that you are a mad man ! ![]() by the way, I was the first person to like the post |
I have it on good authority that JAVA was invented by the illuminati . . . .. |
@poster, My opinion is this , there is no such thing has a difficult (or intractable) programmatic problem or difficult software. What we have are usually problems that are large and complex, hence might not be easily solved by a one man team. Once you know the requirement of a given task, and can break the problem down into simpler sub task and importantly, you are well versed in the language of choice (and also sure the language or platform in question is optimized for tackling such a problem). You are good to go. For instance, I might not be able to write an accounting/audit software right now, not because it is difficult but because I do not have the requisite knowledge of accounting processes. What I am saying is that as long as you can break a problem down into algorithms, then you're good to go. We do not have some kind of software being developed in Nigeria today not because of intelligence but rather because some projects require a long time, large number of people and willing investors. Not just smash and grab. I can't attribute that to being difficult really. and no 2 on your list is definitely not true. We forget that, the biggest innovation in IT today are so not because of complexity but rather due to concept. There are some concepts that are not necessarily difficult to implement but are game changers. PHP took one year to develop and deploy in its first stage and it was done by one (or two) individuals. The latest craze now - node. apparently didn't take that much time from initialization to release. The selling point for these product was more of the fact that the concept was ground breaking. I have a dream to work on PHP++ compiler and based on the concept, it shouldn't take more than a year. Its just that right now I do not have enough savings (or sponsorship) to undertake a project that might not fetch me a dime within a year or two. |
Javanian: I don't want to see any ''i want to learn programming'' comment on this thread, there is a thread for that. Be warned!@moderator , please let them be. Even the mighty Jesus said 'let the little children come unto me . . . . ' The reality is that few programming topics make the front page and for those who have a fascination for programming but don't know how to, that's always the first question on their lips. I know you must have heard this a million times but you should always expect it when a prog topic makes the first page. There are kindlier ways to gently steer them to the right place rather than hiding posts and threats. You only end up chasing people away from a field that has a dreadful reputation already and continue to perpetuate the impression that programmers are broody antisocials |
lordZOUGA: writing drivers for both Operating Systems requires C/C++... But for linux, its pure C/C++. On Windows, you will get some mutilated version of C/C++. I will always take the pure version..You're kidding me right ? Just think of the windows API C++ has the 'regular C++ on steriods'. I wrote a hardware driver about ten years ago for my final year thesis. and it was one of the most 1daful programming experiences I ever had. The USB interface wasn't quite commonplace in the market as at then (most systems just had one or two ports on the front panels), so I used the printer port interface. Based on my experience, every code in pure C/C++ ran in window api programming. You just had to lay your hands on the documentation to know how some stuff are accomplished. To be a successful windows programmer, it is of neccessity to 'worship at the feet' of one man - PETZOLDI. Charles Petzoldi single handedly birthed a generation of windows programmers and without his works, I doubtlessly would not have been able to complete my project. God bless him ! On leaving school, my fascination was in hardware programming/interfacing and embedded systems but I realised that there were few opportunities in that line in Nigeria and didn't have the means to leave the country so I had no option but to join them - Delve into the shitty world of web programming ! |
seedord247: I think i had my first crush in 1988 when i turned 2You beat me to this, you sucker ![]() @poster, i had my first crush around four yrs old but I soon realised that I preferred seven-up |
The requirements are so esoteric that you need not have advertised this on the FP of NL. |
surveyProf: U can never tell, I will find out! That was actually the process in place back then. I remember Amokachi scoring 3 points (someguy voted him as second) while Finidi scored 1 point (third). However, there was caveat then that you couldn't vote for a player from you country. and yes, only coaches were involved then |
Jarus: Everybody that got nomination(by coaches, captains and journalists, even if one nomination) was among the initial long list released by FIFA way back November. You're wrong there sir. The selection process for the team of the year is quite different from that of the WFOTY. Case in point. Pirlo was actually 7th on the footballer of the year list, higher than Alonso's position, however Alonso ended up making the team. Point 2 - Agreed FIFA's process is transparent (but then transparent does not always mean fair and Unbiased - refer to the poll for player of the century in 2000 to get what I mean) but in the case of CAF, meeeen, don't vouch for those douch bags. How else do you explain Hadji beating Okocha in '98 or EL-haddj beating champions league winning Ossei kuffour in 2001 (francophone connection anyone ?). or how in the world will you rationalize the year Drogba was denied the award simply because he refused to attend the show since he was preparing for a semi final match with the elephants team ! Those CAF guys are mostly out of their senses really. When an organisation implements the head to head rule in a round robin competition that is not in the home and away format (2010 nations cup) Then nothing else should surprise you. |
REALLY, Are there still people who cry when watching movies !!! (smh non stop ) the last time I felt sad while watching TV was Aguero's last minute strike against QPR in the final game of last season. and my saddest TV moment was rigobert songs last penalty against Nigeria that made the eagles lose the 2000 nations cup at the national stadium (Now that's a valid reason to cry - patriotism). If James Bond and Di Caprio like, let them die one million time for film, na dem saka |
@OP, Its not an issue of 2:1 or 2:2, its an issue of demand and supply. The labour market is saturated , hence employers can be as choosy as they want (Dangote anyone ?). I have applied for a job at some point where I was dropped because of the school I attended, not my degree or grade, and the organisation in question was an europe based multinational. So quit whinning and make the best of what you have |
I went on an overdrive and came up with a solution that will definitely take something special to beat. 6 lines !!!. The only thing I can say is, PYTHON IS SWEET You can check it out ! li = raw_input("enter " |
omo_to_dun: @PRINCEBro, the reason why I didn't mention yours was cos as much as your logic might have been right. The code still didn't meet up with what ekt_bear specified, ability to receive input from stdin and output to stdout, for obvious reasons l = "car truck 8 4 bus 6 1" @Prince - cool bro - 15 lines, now let me see how far I can refactor mine |
lordZOUGA: and then the contest turns to a test of code length..Not a big deal bro, Many of the guys on the thread have already gotten the logic of the solution and prince did it in less than 30 mins to boot. It was just a way of introducing more fun to the whole process. No biggie ! I don't know if you are a pythonista, so maybe just maybe you might not understand the intense pleasure of writing elegant minimalist code. I got hooked on the whole concept bout four years back when I saw a contest on the web to write the shortest code to extract youtube videos as flv. Definitely, Perl came first (with about just 2 lines or so), awk followed and Python was third. |
InvertedHammer: This is a programming question for beginners!Omo elefo , who ask you ? ekt_bear didn't ask whether it was for novices or superman, all he said was solve it !!! |
ekt_bear, I feel like punching you for depriving me of my sleep really. Saw this as I was about to hit the sack and couldn't blink until I cracked it. My fav pastime is Python but since I dont us python in my day job, I've been terribly rusty. Infact the stuff took me well over an hour considering I was even just installing the python executable on my new sis. However, having lost out in the competition to be the fastest, I strove for the next glorious crown - to be the most elegant Guess I achieved it. 19 lines of code Prince actually did the stuff in 18 lines (with the white spaces stripped of) but the script didn't run when I tried it out. I guess he has to check out one or two stuffs in the code. . . .and the Java solutions ? puleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaase. is that the code to calculate the GDP of Nigeria ? Really, I appreciate you guys (the programmers) but its the lang that I detest. To The C++ guy, I believe C++ can do better than that, That was actually my first love. but kudos though. Check out my solution http://pastebin.com/W3swZVfd |
free13: To quarrel with the FG on this point is like quarreling with the Catholic church when they insist pupils in their schools must be Catholics and they refuse admission to a "high scoring" Muslim. Please let's leave the religious sentiments out of these. I am a Christian but I believe Aribisala's view points about the main topic are clear and not ambiguous and very valid |
careytommy: abeg explain this in your quoted opUbuntu is not built on the Android Kernel but rather the Linux kernel. it originates from the Debian Family of linux distros. android and Ubuntu (the mobile version) are both (and separate) Linux based mobile operating systems. |
aribisala0: I am not sure I am brilliant but thanks. I am grateful for your munificence (offer for recharge card) but i really do not need it. However if you have sisters taking common entrance you can send them to me for coachingYou brilliant no be small bros. As per my sisters, they actually took their common entrance in the early eighties . are you still interested ? |
aribisala0: This argument about quota breeding mediocrity is a selfish one made by southern ethnic groups who believe in their superiority without looking at the bigger picture.chai! bros you are to brilliant. Infact I don't need to type again. You just said my mind. As much as I feel 0 as a cut off mark sounds ridiculous but as long as the entity called Nigeria still exists, then the concept of quota system is actually necessary for balance and fairness. It is cheaper for the Government to bear the cost of educating the whole North for free than to bear the brunt of boko haram with all its attendant economic implications. Aribisala, you are so brilliant, please send your phone number let me send you recharge card as token of appreciation for you intelligence. ![]() |

. I would be so self concious all day without a deodorant. If someone complains about a smell, that will be the end of me that day. Cause I don't like perfumes too much.
Didn't you see my niece (Nwando is the name of my only niece) telling me I'm one of the blessed 35% and am just 12 plus.
