CareerRe: Is It Proper To Introduce Oneself As Miss Or Mrs? by panpan(m): 5:03pm On Nov 25, 2019
safarigirl:
growing up, I learnt that 'Ms' is for women who are either divorced or unmarried at an advanced age.

To be sincere, there is no difference in pronunciation between Ms and Miss
Ms does not depend on marital status and can be used for all women.

Ms is pronounced (miz).
PoliticsRe: Anambra Police Parade 70 Suspects (Photos) by panpan(m): 6:45pm On Nov 24, 2019
Simply raiding an area and rounding people up for a parade is unprofessional.

What is the definition of a "criminal hideout" or "black spot"?

Is it an offence to visit a brothel?

Stealing is usually a reported offence. You don't just go to a random area and arrest the people there for stealing.

I think possession and use of cannabis should be decriminalized.
EducationRe: Cultism: Taraba State University Expels 8 Cultists, Students by panpan(m): 7:48am On Nov 23, 2019
What exactly is "cultism"?

We have not been given details of what they did to be expelled.

The Public Announcement mentioned their "involvement in cult activities" without any description.
CrimeRe: Cameroonian Soldiers Kill A Nigerian Businessman For Selling Tramadol (Graphic) by panpan(m): 10:52pm On Nov 22, 2019
The substance of the story is that some members of the Cameroonian military killed a Nigerian businessman.

The "accusation of selling tramadol" could have been an afterthought. The businessman is no longer in a position to defend himself.

PoliticsRe: Nnamdi Azikiwe 15th Posthumous Birthday: Anambra Declares Monday Public Holiday by panpan(m): 9:16am On Nov 16, 2019
We should consider the economy of the state or country before declaring extra public holidays.

At present, the number of public holidays in the country (13 or 14 each year) are too many.

At the state level, some days may just be observed but should still remain normal working days.

Where did this take place? Which city/country?
HealthRe: Malaria Control: 13 States To Benefit From $250 Million World Bank Loan by panpan(m): 8:44am On Nov 15, 2019
touchmenot:
... World Bank is enabling corruption as they do not put any control measure in place to ensure money is used for what it is intended for. No mention of the specific activities $250m will be used for. ...
The World Bank's primary purpose is to give loans with compound interest.

Whether the borrower uses the loan for its intended purpose, is that country or state's business.

PhonesRe: Border Closure: Telecom Operators Warn Of Network Disruptions by panpan(m): 6:51pm On Nov 09, 2019
Why should those involved in the delivery of petroleum products within the country take orders from the Nigeria Customs Service?

Those who live or work in areas close to the border, but within the country, have the same (petroleum products supply) rights as everybody else.

Is the report of being charged N50,000 to swim in the pool true?
PoliticsRe: FG Declares Monday Public Holiday For Maulud Celebration by panpan(m): 1:58pm On Nov 07, 2019
It seems as if it is only Nigeria that declares a public holiday for this.

For the sake of the economy, the number of public holidays should be reduced. Some days may just be observed without being made public holidays.
PoliticsRe: Senate Debates Omo-Agege’s Sexual Harassment Bill by panpan(m): 1:34pm On Nov 07, 2019
The bill is discriminatory against educators in tertiary institutions.

Laws against sexual harassment should not be restricted to a particular group.

A reported case of sexual harassment should be handled by the authorities of the tertiary institution or the police/courts under the already existing laws (that are applicable to everybody).

The bill should be thrown out or challenged in court.

People will simply look for other platforms for political advertisements. Twitter would lose revenue.
EducationRe: UTME Candidates Won’t Score Zero, Even When Absent – JAMB by panpan(m): 8:55am On Oct 29, 2019
What does this really mean?

So, a candidate can decide not to sit for the exam and, for example, end up with a score of 160 out of 400. Such a person would then be eligible for admission to a tertiary institution. huh
PoliticsRe: Ohanaeze Wants The Name Nigeria Changed To A Positive One by panpan(m):
The name "Nigeria" is okay; there is no need to change it.

A change in name would require acceptability all over the country; this would bring up a lot of debates.

A change in name would require constitutional amendment, which would take up a lot of time and resources.

A change in name would mean that official documents (both public and private) all over the country would have to be reprinted; this would have a lot of cost implications.

BusinessRe: Banks, Telcos Feud Over USSD Charges Deepens by panpan(m):
dre11:
Acting under the aegis of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ALTON), the carriers, on Thursday faulted the directive stopping the telcos from deducting the charges while still allowing the banks to keep deducting.
Are the telecommunications companies not being paid anything at all for USSD?

If the telecommunications companies are, at present, paid nothing, all they need to do is to stop providing the service. They cannot be forced to provide USSD for free.

EducationRe: UNILAG Student Turns Into A Mermaid At Fagunwa Hall, Gets Arrested (Photos) by panpan(m): 10:50am On Oct 23, 2019
If the university students want to believe in the existence of a mermaid, based on rumours but without evidence, that is their business.

The real issue is, why was Olamide arrested? What was her offence?
PhonesRe: Leaked Memo Shows Banks Asked Telcos To Charge For USSD (pics) by panpan(m):
There is nothing wrong in the letter by the Body of Banks to the Telecommunication Operators.

It is not as if USSD was previously free, and the Body of Banks suddenly asked the Telecommunication Operators to start charging customers.

The Telecommunication Operators proposed an increase in USSD charges by 450% to the banks.

The banks did not want to be seen as being exorbitant to their customers; the banks also did not want to take the blame for charging customers for any failed or delayed USSD transactions as a result of possible poor network.

To prevent any backlash from their customers, the Body of Banks stated that if the Telecommunication Operators insist on the N4.5 per 20 seconds USSD session, they should charge the customers directly (instead of charging the banks who would still have pass on the cost to the customers).

In others words, the banks do not want to take responsibility for charges that are only going to benefit the Telecommunication Operators.
