A third division club could perform well and become a premier league club after two seasons; by then the club would have much greater value.

Foreign AffairsRe: Trump Ends Special Status For Hong Kong To Punish China, China Vows Retaliation by panpan(m): 3:22pm On Jul 15, 2020
Macsjebs:
“Hong Kong will now be treated the same as mainland China,” (Trump) added.
...
“Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and no foreign country has the right to interfere,” (China’s foreign) ministry said.
If Hong Kong's affairs are purely China’s internal affairs, then China shouldn't complain if other countries treat Hong Kong the same way as mainland China.

China cannot eat its cake and have it.
China cannot remove Hong Kong's special status, say it's China's internal affair, then expect other countries to continue to relate with Hong Kong under that special status.

CrimeRe: FBI ‘Kidnapped” Hushpuppi From Dubai - Pissetzky, Lawyer by panpan(m): 8:10pm On Jul 10, 2020
The lawyer has a point though.

There is no extradition treaty between the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

There was no extradition trial.

What the FBI did is an insult to Nigerians.

There is an Australian national who has been fighting extradition from the United Kingdom to the United States.
There is a Chinese national who has been fighting extradition from Canada to the United States.

However, in the case of Nigerians, the FBI just goes to the country where they reside and picks them up. This is illegal.

luscioustrish:
One of such was the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Biodun Ogunyemi, who described the legislation as biased.
He said the bill will stigmatise lecturers in universities.

Really? How so sir? undecided
The legislation is biased towards lecturers.
In fact, the legislation is discriminatory.

Why should non-lecturers and lecturers, who may both be accused of sexual harassment, be arrested and tried under different laws?
PoliticsRe: Senate Passes Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill by panpan(m): 7:23pm On Jul 07, 2020
Sexual harassment laws should be inclusive of every workplace, not just tertiary institutions.

A sexual relationship between a lecturer and his/her student should be viewed as professional misconduct, and should be handled by the school authorities.

A fourteen-year jail term for sexual harassment is too harsh. Sexual harassment is not as severe as rape. A prison sentence of six months, with an option of fine, is appropriate.

NYSCRe: NYSC Issues Warning On Date Of Birth Correction by panpan(m): 2:55pm On Jun 23, 2020
Registration of births is not enforced in Nigeria.

Many parents do not bother to register the birth of their children until it is time for the child to go to secondary school or a tertiary institution, or to apply for a passport. This time lag gives room for all sorts of manipulation of dates and figures.

In several other countries, registration of birth must be done within 60 or 90 days after the child is born.

"Declaration of Age" is still accepted in Nigeria, regardless of when the person was born.

People mention whatever age or date of birth they are comfortable with, because the Nigerian system allows it.
PoliticsRe: FG Declares June 12 Public Holiday, To Mark Democracy Day by panpan(m): 9:03pm On Jun 08, 2020
Declaring a public holiday for democracy is not necessary.

At present, there are 13 national public holidays.

For the sake of the economy, the number of public holidays should be reduced. Some days may just be observed without being made public holidays.
All rapists should be sentenced to DEATH....after adequate and thorough investigation.
There should be no 2 ways about it.
Death sentence for rape is too harsh. A prison sentence of between five and fifteen years is appropriate.

A death sentence for rape gives no incentive for the rapist not to murder the victim as well.

The Nigeria Police should be adequately funded by the federal government.

Funding should not just be billions of naira allocated at the top. The funds should reach the police at the police stations.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: FG To Pay Jobless Youths N20,000 Monthly To Sweep Markets, Clear Gutters by panpan(m): 7:22pm On May 29, 2020
774,000 (workers) x 3 (months) x N20,000 = N46.44 billion

It was previously said that the initiative will be funded from the N60 billion COVID-19 Intervention Fund.

Sweeping of streets, markets and clearing of drainage is supposed to be a state or local government affair.

Why has the federal government planned the initiative for October to December 2020?
Is there something that the federal government is not telling us?
HealthRe: "Infant Formulas On Sale In Nigeria High In Arsenic, Toxic Substance" by panpan(m): 12:17pm On May 28, 2020
ideology:
Why should it be added in the first place?
Arsenic may not have been "added". It is more likely to be present from contamination.

Arsenic occurs naturally in rocks, soil, ground water and well water.
Through ground water, arsenic may find its way into crops that are processed for food.

Why should the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) talk about renewal of an "expired" card that was never issued?

As several have mentioned on this thread, many of us are yet to get the identity card, so the issue of renewal does not yet arise.
HealthRe: Dr. Yunusa Thairu Explains COVID-19 Treatment Regimen by panpan(m): 10:27pm On May 11, 2020
GFELOG2018:
The COVID-19 Team Leader at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Dr. Yunusa Thairu, has given a rare insight into the treatment regimen for the COVID-19, explaining how a cocktail of an anti-retroviral drug, Aluvia, as well as Zinc and Vitamin C tablets are deployed.

According to him, the regimen was adopted at a meeting with the World Health Organisation, WHO, and the United Nations, UN, alongside with some other unnamed stakeholders.
Is it only when branded drugs are involved (in this case 'Aluvia') that WHO shows interest?

The source revealed that the gang was responsible for the kidnap of two expatriates, Zaid Alas from Jordan and Isah Jabour a Syrian, both working with Traicta Ltd, Shiroro, Niger State, in December 2019, and only released their captive after collected N120m ransom.
...
It was learnt the suspects were helping IRT operatives to track and arrest other gang members still at large, especially their leaders and armourer, one Aliyu Sokoto and Mus’ab, who sent threat email to Triacta Ltd, and negotiated with the company’s managing director, on how N50m will be paid to them yearly to stop kidnapping the company’s expatriates.
The suspects in the picture do not appear like people who have had a significant share from the N120m ransom, or N50m yearly for kidnap prevention.
