Interesting, especially as its coming from Nekrassov! His article shows in-depth knowledge of the rumbles in the Nigerian system unlike those western analysts whose perceptions of Nigeria are at best figment of their distorted imaginations of Nigeria. |
I totally agree with you. One of the quickest solution to the Problem in Lagos is the issue of non governmental responsibility. Citizens should begin to take responsibility for thier neigbourhoods and not just thier houses alone. We should start collaboratiing and utilizing collective efforts to create better living spaces for ourselves. For instance in Lekki, the average land price(600sqm) in non-choice areas(around chevron) is in the region of 20-30 million. Most of the roads in these areas are untarred, have no streetlights or drainages and other basic amenities. Now, on a 1KM stretch of road you have about 100 plots of land. The average cost of building a street road complete with drainages, streetlights, road signs et al varies between N50m-N100m per km. That means that if each plot of land pays out an infrastructure fee of 10% which equates to 2-3 million Naira each, they would have 200-300 million Naira to play with per km of road which is enough to build out beautiful roads & drainages, solar streetlights and send our unsightly electric cables underground as well as landscape our environs. We would even have enough change to create a few parks and gardens here and there, as well as place security cameras with a control unit. But despite this possibilities, we would rather spend even more millions paying rubbish fees to our landlords as 10% agency and 10% legal fees which is 20%. Kind of very pathetic how we fail to see the power of collaboration and the attendant synergies that would result. |
The earlier the APC learns to forget about Jonathan and focus on the people, the better for them. Jonathan is destroying Nigeria. Fine. Now can you tell us what you are going to do and how you are going to do it differently? You guys at APC are allowing the PDP gain as much political capital because you have shown Nigerians you have little or nothing to offer. |
We need laws to control the negative impact of the proliferation of the internet. Nigeria should open an office where before you'd be allowed to blog, you simply register with your name, address and phone number. If you are caught publishing false and unfounded tales, you should be punished. |
HNosegbe: As a Deltan, I am extremely pessimistic about Pat Utomi's chances. In fact I don't think he stands a chance. If he gets the PDP ticket then he will easily coast to victory. Deltans would not for any reason vote APC! |
jarkbauer: It is a lie. See his tweet that denied itI have just run through Utomi's twitter page and the tweet you posted up there doesn't exist anywhere on his page. His posters are littered everywhere in Asaba with the PDP, so while I can't confirm at this point whether or not it is true or false, it would be important for Utomi to let his numerous supporter know his stand on time. If he doesn't come out to say anything, then it should be assumed true. Deltans would not vote for APC so it only makes sense that if he must run, he would do so on the right platform and either PDP or Labour are perfect. |
The surprises that are associated with partisan politics in Delta State have played out again. Prof. Pat Utomi, a renowned Economist and Director of Lagos Business School, who has been hobnobbing with the leaders of the All Progressives Congress, has declared to succeed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan next year on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. The professor’s posters now liter the streets of Asaba, the Delta State capital. Prior to this, it was highly speculated across the state that Utomi, because of his fraternity with APC leaders in the state, would contest on the platform of the party. However, on Wednesday, pundits were shocked to see his governorship posters, adorned with the ruling PDP’s umbrella. The Eagle Online gathered that Utomi’s elegant entry into the political scene of the state have sent panic into the camps of other aspirants from Delta North Senatorial District. Among those said to be shocked were Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the former Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Engr. Victor Ochei, who have since last year engaged in the race to succeed Uduaghan. Utomi, a former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Mega Party, first hinted of his desire to join the governorship race of the state “to contribute his quota to the good governance of Governor Uduaghan” when he attended the meeting of APC Leaders’ Forum held in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state. The meeting was chaired by Engr. Hyacinth Enuha, about three months ago. At the meeting, Chief Fidelis Tilije, a three-time running-mate to Chief Great Ogboru, the governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party, maintained an “enough is enough” stand on PDP supremacy in the state since 1999, urging Utomi to join the governorship race to correct “all the wrongs and starvation the ruling party has inflicted on people of the state.” APC leaders at the event carpeted Governor Uduaghan and his “selection” by a former Governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, maintaining: “Everything about Uduaghan’s administration is voodoo, mere cosmetics and media propaganda.” But instead of Utomi yielding to the calls of the APC to see 2015 as “the favourable time to redeem the state”, his posters showed he had declared for the PDP. http://theeagleonline.com.ng/delta-2015-utomi-dumps-apc-prints-pdp-governorship-posters/ |
Tinubu and APC are officially finished in Lagos! My advice to Jimi Agbaje is to protect his life with water tight precision. Everything from the water he drinks to the microphone he uses to the fuel he buys at the station....everything must be vetted before he use. He should only enter an Aeroplane when any of tinubu's relatives are present in the same aircraft. Security must be paramount because the man in bourdillon will not just have you walk into Alausa without a greasely fight! |
Popular Lagos politician and Chief Executive Officer of Jay Kay Pharmacy, Jimi Agbaje has declared his interest to run for the 2015 governorship race in Lagos state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Agbaje declared his intention to succeed governor Fashola after his tour of all 57 Local councils in the state. DailyPost also stumbled on one of his campaign posters posted online with the inscriptions: “Eko Initiative. JayKayok. Jimi Agbaje for Governor 2015.” Details shortly. http://dailypost.ng/2014/07/15/jimi-agbaje-declares-for-lagos-guber-race-to-contest-under-pdp-photo/ |
UchihaMadara: I really do aspire to be like Zuckerberg, but as you rightly noted, not everyone can be a Zuckerberg.Living up to potential is one thing and totally different from copying what 300 year old economies did to get where they are. Development is a process and it takes a whole lot most important of which is education and security. The mistake many make is the assumption that Nigeria is a rich country. Truth is this nation is pretty unproductive hence very poor. Qatar has just built an Airport worth $15 billion. That amount is the combined budget of 30 STATES in Nigeria. Trust me those infrastructure you see overseas, they ain't cheap despite the fact that they use their own engineers. Just to butress the point of Nigeria's poverty, our budget for last yeat was less than $30billion. Nestle, a company from a small country of 8 million people had revenues of $100 billion. Facebook paid $19billion for whatsapp. We truly do need a new breed of selfless leaders but their first point must be to make Nigerians more productive. So instead of buying cars with our first paycheck, we should be looking invest in starting out our own business! We need more productive Nigerians like Dangote & Elumelu and less people like Tinubu and Ibori who had so much wealth with no real business to flaunt. I get your point though. However, I still feel we are better off benchmarking against the likes of Brazil, China, Turkjey et al. When we beat those guys, we can go for the likes of Germany, USA and Japan! |
UchihaMadara: Thailand and India shouldn't really be our role models though, just saying!I also wish for you to personally compete with the likes of Mark Zuckerberg(Facebook), Elon Musk(Tesla Electric Car), Sergie Brin(Google), et al both in your quest for wealth and in your contribution to global advancement. The folks I listed are either your mates or a few years older or younger than you. But reality is you are where you are and they are where they are- millions of miles apart!! I also wish we could compete with the likes of the countries you mentioned but reality is reality- those countries are either hundreds of years far into thier development or are small and blessed with more money than they need in 2 centuries(UAE). We should realistically benchmark against other developing countries that are doing pretty good- the likes of Thailand, Brazil et al. |
ratiken: As long as APC does not present Jimi Agbaje..... Lagos will be won by PDP by a landslide.Interestingly, PDP would be presenting Jimi Agbaje! And that's the joker here! APC is going to lose Lagos because Tinubu absolute focus is the protection of his stolen assets, he needs someone he can completely trust and control and the topmost two on his mind are his wife, Remi and his accountant, Ambode. |
I thought it was only me oh! |
banega: HuhWhy are you so simplistic na? Did it occur to you that there probably aren't any private universities in South AFRICA? |
Funny how the same people who have spent a portion of their lives insulting the President for tribal reasons are the ones complaining about insults on a Governor. I personally do not support insults as I always love to engage in mutually beneficial discussions, however, it is obvious Aregbeshola is a thug type embodied with rascality. But we are thankful for God's mercies as the "State of Osun" will be delivered from the thieving hands of the Governor and his master, Tinubu in exactly 29days! |
dont8: Are you telling me that Kayode Fayemi is that bad that he cannot even win his Local Government Area? But one thing I know is that Fayemi is too polished for the people of Ekiti and not an aggressive politician. You say the man is too elitist and couldn't connect with his people which by all calculations would see him loose. But at the same time you say the election was rigged? What kind of discombobulated reasoning is that? Why does extra ordinary sentiment overtake the reasoning of many APC personas? It has to do with what I call the "failure complex". You know that kid who failed badly in school and says two things at the same time (1) They didn't teach us what they set in Exams AND (2)The teacher doesn't like me so he failed me. Discombulated reasoning!! |
KnowAll: Dangote is greasing some palms in forbes magazine one good story after d other for this man. Meanwhile people on d ground cannot feel d impact of his wealth. Haba all na wash!! At least when u open any computer one is likely going to see Bill Gates product, wetin Dangote dey sell wey he come dey make this kind money. One out of every 2 houses built in Nigeria today blessed Dangote with millions of Naira. One out of every two biscuits, bread, meat pie, and tea taken in Nigeria put money in Dangote's pocket. And very soon one out of every two litres of fuel used in our 10 million cars would run on Dangote petrol. You know, you can pirate copies of windows, but you can't pirate cement. Dangote is on his way to becoming the richest man in the world and that I must say is good for Nigeria as he has shown himself to be a reliable employer of Labour unlike all those oil block thieves parading themselves as billionaires. |
Shocking!!! May God grant his family strength!! May God grant us all the wisdom to know that we don't belong here forever. May He grant us capacity to give our best everyday of our lives. May He give us the understanding to love one another unconditionally irrespective of tribe, religion or class! |
A testament to the Agricultural Transformation Agenda!! Under Jonathan, Dangote, Atiku and myself, have all embraced agriculture!! Nigeria is on the road to super ordinary success. The Agricultural revolution has begun!! Left right and centre, massive farms are springing up. People who hitherto only cared about oil blocks are now acquiring hectares of arable land. Another reason why the one at the top would be with us till 2019!! |

Nice one!! |
I will reply later. |
For every innocent Nigerian killed, we must take out 50 terrorists. For every bomb blasted, we must take out 500 terrorists. For every click Skekau's video gets on YouTube , we should drop one rocket in sambisa. We need to flush out these bastards before they team up with those other bastards in Iraq. |
dejt4u: arabic and islam are very different.. Arabic is just the language of the arabians i.e the language is used by all irrespective of the religion..Maybe its a good Idea we start using chinese on some of our national insignia. That would do I guess. 获取某种意义上先生. Thank You. |
The transformation is happening everywhere and trust me the pace is soo speeedy with massive trucks working day and night. Your pictures aren't clear and your "anglelation" doesn't do justice to the real works on ground. But thanks for the pictures!! |
Wonderful. I see all these pictures of transformation and I keep asking myself this question: What were all our other leaders doing for the last 30 years since 1983? How come its Jonathan revamping the dead railways and building brand new tracks? How come its Jonathan rebuilding our horrific airports and building 5 brand new ones? How come it's this same Jonathan fixing the death traps we previously called roads? How come its Jonathan who privatized the power sector and is overseeing its massive redevelopment? How come every other leader forgot to properly base our economy and suddenly Jonathan comes in and we are now by far the biggest in Africa? How come Agriculture has finally come back and why is it happening in Jonathan's era? And to think that all this is happening in the midst of the greatest security challenge Nigeria has ever faced? What on planet earth did our leaders do in the last 30years where we had extraordinary peace? In 3 years Jonathan is doing what they didn't do in 30 years? This for me is a massive mystery! |
The people living there, do they have security clearance to stay there? All this one na wash!! Go to Chibok if you want to. Sitting in a park is appreciated, so is holding bringbackourgirls signs as well as sharing on twitter. But the real brave ones would go all the way to Chibok, security clearance or not to show they truly care. Like I always say, we need more actionists and not activists!! |
aresa: And where are the imaginary loads of magnificent development and gigantic projects? In the sky?Take a trip to Yenagoa and see whats happening. I was amazed myself when I visited. I'm thinking they are quiet about it because they don't want Jonathan to be accused of Favoritism. Lots of construction going on in a very small city. |
It has deteriorated considerably!! I believe we have gotten it right with the privatization though. Its just a matter of time. |
I AGREE. I believe that even things literally every thing the government fails in can be handled by the private sector. The govt should simply act as regulator and hold a Small percentage for the purpose of generating income and instituting minimal controls. |
And the propaganda continues. . . . . . . Please go and pay salaries! The civil servants are waiting or August 9th will be your day of judgement!! |
Excellent piece. Interestingly, despite the bombings, Nigeria is still recording super ordinary feats and that goes further to prove that this is our time. The positive forces are with us and the evil forces are working so hard to trample our rising. The beauty is that good will overcome evil and come 2015 Nigeria would be on an irreversible path of progress, one the would herald the coming of age opf the African continent. To the pessimistic, grow your optimism. Nigeria, despite all the bombings is the second fastest growing economy in the world after China for 2014.
