I have two trucks that were used in bringing products from Europe. Haven't used them here yet. What price would you offer weekly? |
Nice Thread, I am following! I like believers. People who don't see impossibilities. My own advice to all is simple. If you want to do business and succeed, all you need to do is to look. Look around you. Anywhere you see a problem, there lies an opportunity. Solve that problem and you can make tonnes of money out of the solution! It's that simple. |
lukkie: I thought Glo said we'd pay less for internet access due to the Main One cable. Hmn, story don change now.How could Glo have said that. Mainone is the biggest threat to Glo1. Get you facts right! But I get your point sha. With Glo one, Main One and SAT 3, shouldn't we be paying much less and having supersonic speeds, but no, this is Naija - always a goldmine where money is made without adequate service being delivered. |
The solution is simple. Rearing cattle is big business. The market is worth over 5 Billion Dollars. Southerners and Middle belters should start rearing their own cattle and knock these guys out of business. When there is no body to buy those Fulani Borodo cattle anymore they would not have any need for grazing land. In many countries across the world, cattle is farmed. Grazing nomadically is old school. Countries like Netherlands and Denmark are amongst the biggest dairy produces yet they have very limited land supply. They don't graze. Imagine if cattle was farmed in Ogun state, the cost of cattle would be cheaper by dozens for the bulk of Lagosians for the simple reason that the cost of Transportation would be much less since the cattle doesn't have to come from all the way Sokoto! Plus better farming practices and you get even fatter & healthier cows. We are at their mercy because the meat we eat comes from them! Business is the solution. Southerns should start farming cattle! Simple. I'm working on a project in that light. |
Jarus: No big deal. All these fights are not taken personal. The fights might not be taken personal to them, however every time they fight people die in numbers. To think Buhari is dining with Sambo(Jonathan's VP) who he claims stole his vote in 2011. It shows something, the person they hate is Jonathan not the PDP or the Government. I used to be a rabid supporter of El Rufai and people that knew him personally used to tell me-- "U don't know the guys that's why you support him". Now I know him. I've never seen a better description of a BIGOT. You need to see what he posted on his twitter and FB accounts yesterday. |
Fashola!! The guy is always right on point! Nice one. |
Fashola ‘arrests’ Col, Sergeant on BRT lane BY OLASUNKANMI AKONI & MONSUR OLOWOOPEJO LAGOS – Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, arrested two military officers who drove on the dedicated Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, lane. The two military officers, who were accosted on the BRT lane at the Outer Marina in Central Lagos, were Colonel K. I. Yusuf, who drove in an Army Green Peugeot 406 with registration Number BO1 – 150 NA and Staff Sergeant Adeomi A.J, who drove in a black Toyota Camry car. https://vml1.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Fashola-arrest.jpg?9d7bd4 CAUGHT IN THE ACT…Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, (right) asking Colonel K. I. Yusuf why he drove on the BRT lane illegally, when he was apprehended being driven in an Army Green Peugeot 406 with number-plate BO1-150 NA at Outer Marina in Central Lagos, Tuesday 17th July Realising that the game was up, Col. Yusuf came down from his car, saluted several times and kept muttering: “I am sorry, very, very sorry” with the governor enquiring why, a senior military officer, Yusuf, chose to break the law instead of preserving it. Speaking after the incident, Fashola described as very unfortunate the fact that those who ought to stand behind in defence of democratic values were the ones violating them. Fashola, who noted that the highest level of the military command had expressed their commitment to supporting democracy and to subjecting themselves and their officers to the laws of the country, declared: “Those officers that I caught today are very bad examples for the military.” The governor said he had already made a representation to the superiors of the culprits, expressing optimism that they would be sanctioned appropriately. He, however, added, “But it signifies my commitment and the commitment of the Lagos State Government that all those who will not comply with our laws should leave our state. We will not back down”. “There is a zero-tolerance for lawlessness. There is zero-tolerance for breach of our regulations and we are going to do more of this. We are going to take control of our traffic. We cannot build our way out of traffic congestion; our responsibility is to manage traffic and manage congestion.” Insisting that people must behave themselves, Fashola declared, “I don’t use BRT lane, I sit in traffic and I expect everyone who wants to drive his car to do same. The alternative is to use the bus. “The bus is for those who cannot afford to buy cars. They have the right also to use the road and we cannot encroach on that lane which we have reserved for them. This is democratisation of the road and I will defend it.” |
I love Mukina!! I think she does an excellent job. Without her, Nairaland would've been a totally different, not as interesting place! |

diluminati: Oshiomole dancing with Oba's Chiefs.I formally declare Edo State the least tribal state in Nigeria. Binis defied tribalism and voted against their tribes man. It is a testament to the sophistication of the Edo people. And I think the rest of the country can learn from this! |
Ok. I have to conclude that this Eko Ile guy is not worth it. Pretty childish guy. Wouldn't want to engage him for the simple fact that if I do, it would appear like we belong in the same class. Wouldn't want to give him that privilege. |
Eko Ile: Papab. You ignorance and lack of civic education is mind boggling and shameful.I would have expected something more intelligent than this sha. This is a pathetic response. I can help you defend the failures of Lagos in a more intelligent way. It is sad and pathetic that all you are talking about is allocations from Abuja. Think for yourself: Dangote is one man. He is worth $14Billion. He doesn't go to Abuja to collect allocation. He collects his allocation from builders that buy his cement, tea drinkers that use his sugar, bakeries that use his flour and kids that eat his indomie. Why can't Lagos with all the advantage Nigeria has given to it build a strong capital base that is non oil related. Lagos has so much opportunity. It can earn from Business tourism If it had a world class convention centre. Lagos can make itself the Financial hub of Africa in the same mode that Singapore serves Asia, London serves Europe, New York serves America and Dubai serves the middle east. Lagos has all the ethos going for it in that direction, it just needs the right kind of policies. Lagos should have multi billion dollar budgets not those meagre $3 billion that should be reserved for countries like Liberia. The sad thing is that Lagosians are glorying in the snail speed patch-patch development that Fashola is building and forgeting to notice the hi-speed with which Tinubu completes his own projects. |

Eko Ile: And you honestly bought that and took off running with your Angola comparison9 is Lagos a country? Are you in primary 2 or you were just too lazy to spot the difference?Lagos is a capital of Nigeria and more money accrues to Lagos than to any other part of Nigeria. Lagos has more than enough potential but Fashola did not do anything to unlock that potential. Go to Nairobi and see what is happening there. Even Addis Ababa is experiencing some good development in comparison to Lagos. The truth of the matter is that Fashola doesn't understand financial engineering. If he did, he would find more innovative ways to access capital than the meagre income that comes from taxation. Taxation is for social services. If you want real development, use your potential of both today and tommorow to buy debt and spread it into the future. Utilize that debt to create critical mass, your society blossoms, you get credibility plus increased credit ratings , acquire more debt, pay the old one and execute more projects, you society blossoms futher and on and on and on. Thats the secret and its working accross the capitalist world. Just be wiser enough to know the boiling point when to stop acquiring debt. |
Eko Ile: These NL illeterates sha. Mention lagos and see them rush out to put down their own country for another country. The poster said LAGOS IS A COUNTRY. I was even nice enough to ignore his speech and compare Lagos directly with Luanda. If na Angola, whose population is about equal to that of Lagos, then Eko don baje, noni! |
If you are going to show development in Angola, at least be honest enough that those building were paid for by the government with expected future oil earnings. The people can't even afford such cities, they are basically ghost towns. You may not be comfortable with Lagos level of development but be honest with your analysis and don't mislead others. Check the link for more details. Angola have virtually mortgaged their future for a pie in the sky type of development. Angola's Chinese-built ghost town http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-18646243
Mr Man, if you've been to Angola, you wouldn't speak like this. That article you posted is a British perspective and I care too little about their perspective when it comes to African issues. They call these projects Ghost towns because its the Chinese building them. For crying out loud, these properties were commissioned only this year and they are to house 750,000 in a country of 14 million. Do you expect them to be sold out in 3 months? Even estates with 30 properties take years to fill up in lagos talkless of a town with over 100,000 properties. About Angola's future oil earnings, you probably didn't realise that they have used it to solve their future housing problems. Its amazon that Lagos cannot raise the money required to execute development projects but Tinubu can raise the money to start an airline, build two Oriental hotels and build a $100million shopping mall. Think, one man can raise the money(almost $300million) to execute these projects but Lagos is struggling with funds to complete the few projects that Fashola embarked upon. |
I love Lagos and I think Fashola is trying his best but his best is a far cry from what many others worldwide are doing. 6 years after, you should expect much more than he has achieved. One place I think he failed woefully is in the area of attracting financial capital for development projects. A city like Lagos should be talking about $50billion development plans and should be able to muster the clout to attract that kind of capital. If Dangote can get billions of dollars for his cement factories, then why not Lagos? If the Nigerian stock market under Soludo could grow to almost $100billion, then Lagos can raise big money. The whole idea would have been to develop attractive Financial models that would pull capital to Lagos for infrastructural development. Fashola failed in this regard so Lagos is losing out and all the gradiose projects he would have executed would not be completed before he lives. |
Is it the same Lagos where I saw pictures of Human Beings living in the river?? Rain falls everywhere in the country, but Lagos is the only place I see pictures of Humans living like fishes- swimming to work and drowning on the way back. In the real sense of it, Lagos is a cesspit. I would have thought that 6 years after Fashola, the city would be exceptionally different. So how come Fashola hasn't done anything to combat flooding in Lagos? Go to Benin and see Oshiomole's approach to flood control, you'd be impressed at the citywide holistic approach being applied, even though it is still far from completion. If you really wan't to compare Lagos State with the FG, Abuja would be your measure. The FCT is the only geographical location where the FG has complete jurisdiction and guess what, it is miles ahead of Lagos. And you know what? Compared to many African cities, Lagos is a Huge failure, huge huge failure. I would just give you a chart comparing Lagos with Luanda. Luanda is the capital of Angola, a country who just ended a civil war in 2002. LAGOS has an estimated population of 16 Million. Luanda has an estimated population of 5 Million. Lagos GDP: $40 BILLION Luanda GDP:$80 BILLION Luanda is currently a city of cranes with skyscrapers being built in every corner of the city. Lagos has less the 20 buildings under construction with more than 10 stories. 6 years and 2 trillion Naira after, show me what Fashola has done that you can be proud of. Don't get me wrong, I think Fashola is one of the best performers in his class, but Lagos cannot exactly brag even amongst many African cities. Below is a picture of a low cost residential around Luanda that would house 750,000 people. By Lagos standards, these types are called luxury and would be found only in Ikoyi. Infact, the Ikoyi properties are not even half as good. https://static.businessinsider.com/image/4ff313a16bb3f7da0d00000f-915/slide-51.jpg https://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/ekuikui/Luanda/Kilamba%20Kiaxi/DSC00670.jpg Below is a picture of just one section of Luanda with cranes dotting the city?? https://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/428621_10150570859461286_536241285_9412114_931501367_n.jpg https://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/424045_10150584036196286_536241285_9454653_1444456935_n.jpg |
tos4u: Fellow nairalander, wat do u feel about Nigeria bcomin d greatest cassava producer in d world. When other good commodities are there, it just a big disgrace and our Presidnt and his cohorts are jubilating about it, my God! Cassava of all foods i tire for dis nation,This post qualifies for the dullest post ever to come out of a Nairalander. A little education. Nigeria imports about $4 Billion Dollars of wheat. You know why? Because the white man made us to love bread and now noodles and spagetti. So they makes tonnes of money because they found use for something they grow in abundance. Nigeria is the biggest producer of Cassava worldwide. If we can create better use for cassava and the world finds value in what we have created, then we would be richer for it. Oil is of value because the world found use of it as an energy source. One question please; What class are you and what position did you take last term? |
elliot777: Can anyone verify if etihad airways would be operating any services from manchester straight to lagos as that would only make sense since their club manchester city is based in here manchester and there are loads of nigerians in manchester who are tired of travelling via amsterdam or france before reconnecting a flight to lagos or even going all the way to london just to get a direct flight. The airline industry doesn't work like that my friend. They've got business to do, hence everybody must fly through Abu Dhabi- that is their hub! |
These fools are not yet sober. 10% stake in profit of oil and gas companies' from off shore activities must not be included. While we are at it, 10% stake in Agric products, and other similar products should go to host communities as well - in a separate bill. 10% from coal should go to Enugu and other places. As a matter of fact lets do this retroactively 10-20 years should suffice.
Already, 100% of the proceeds from agriculture already goes to the host communities. Your love for oil didn't let you realize that. When a farmer plants on his land, he sells the produce for 100% of the price he determines best for him. When oil is farmed off the lands of the Niger Delta, nothing goes to the communities by virtue of the land use act that gives the government 100% ownership of every oil that exists beneath the soil. How I Wish the nutrients that exist beneath the soil were also taken over by the FG such that after farming, the produce would be taken to Abuja for submission and the proceeds would be shared amongst the states with 13% going back to the farmers regions. |
Makes a lot of sense. But obviously a segment of the NASS would fight it and slow it down. |
Have any of those tracks(MAVIN) hit number one on any of the various radio stations that play popular music?? The answer is a Big No. The songS I hear on radio everyday are DBANJ'S , DAVIDO's, WHIZ KID's, PSQUARES ET AL. Everybody knows what a hit song is. This album has no first grade hit. The songs are nice but they lack popular appeal. One way to judge success in the industry these days is to measure youtube activity on the music videos. Check. |
Really. Wish you knew economics better. Where do people get the money to buy the Agricultural Produce?? If there was no oil money, how would Government pay 3 million civil servants who would in turn buy Agricultural produce?? The GDP component doesn't equate to capacity to survive. Agriculture constitutes 40% of the economy because people have to consume. However that consumption can only be made possible if there is the financial resource to back it up. That Financial resource would come from production that is sold externally. The structure of economics is complex such that a except value is added and Agro products are made competitive for exports, the GDP size of Agriculture would be nothing but a huge burden. Let me put it in layman terms. Imagine a Family of 10, each with equal production capacity. Assume 6 of the family members are all craftsmen that make art pieces. It would be safe to say that 60% of that Family's GDP constitutes Craftmanship. Now Imagine those art pieces cannot be sold outside of the family?? Of what value is it?? Zilch! Infact the only reason oil is a ohur bastion is because of its external value. As Agriculture stands today in Nigeria, it cannot survive any region with the produce being exported. |
95%+ of all non state bomb blasts are perpetuated in the name of Islam. 80%+ of turmails in the world today are happening in predominantly Islamic states. Yemen, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Northern Nigeria, Mali, Somalia, Sudan,Iraq, Pakistan, |
Best thread in a while. I will visit Enugu in a short while because of what I've seen here. Wow, some crazy houses too. I think the South East has the best Human capital in Nigeria. That capital if channeled towards development of the region would make it about the best place in Africa. |
I think the Oba took his support for Oshiomole too far. Even Oshiomole received the President wella. Interestingly too, Oshiomole recieved Anenih(who he accused of attempts on his life) at the previous PDP rally where the Vice President was president. PDP at this time has no business in Edo State. Oshimole is doing a good job that sometimes you wonder where he gets money. He is rebuilding the destruction that Igbinedion and the Anenih crew visited on Edo state for 8 years. In this regard, I don't blame the Oba. And I even go further in commending the Oba for supporting a Non Benin candidate over a Benin candidate. Tells a lot about the detribalized nature of the state. https://cdn.pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/PDP-campaigns-in-Edo-4-504x336.jpg |
LAGOS IS A CESSPIT. FASHOLA SHOULD BE IMPEACHED. 5 YEARS ON THE THRONE, 2 TRILLION AFTER AND THIS IS ALL WE GET? ? I'm just kidding. I love Fashola. |
Nice. I like Yakubu. Know him wella. We lived on the same street back in the days. Was cool friends with his kids. Pretty chics back then. Well rounded guy I must say(Sound ethics and morals et al). Very Deserving. Hope he brings change. |
WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT MAVIN ALBUM THAT WAS RELEASED NOBODY SEEMS TO BE PLAYING ANY OF THE SONGS ANYWHERE. |
As long as POWER stays on this planet, this would remain as 'Imagine". Power and the quest for it are responsible for all the problems the world has. |
yohanna zack: It wl be a waste of resources if d issue of insecurity is not addressd. U think white pple are fools to invest in a place where d lives of their nationals wl be in danger or their investment wl be threatened? Wake up my brodas. Let him bring corruption and insecurity to their knees, every oda tin wl pop up naturally.Go to the creeks of the Niger Delta. Escravos as an example. The white folks you are talking about have almost completed a $9 Billion project. Its called EGTL. Check it up. They were there in thousands when the Niger Delta was one of the most insecure places in the world. Go to Baghdad. They are there in droves. They are putting in their money aplenty. Even Afghanistan has them. Or is it southern Sudan. Them plenty Or is it Mexico. In the last 6 years, Mexico has lost over 50,000 people in the drug war. That's much more than all the religious crises Nigeria has experienced. Investors understand opportunity. Northern Nigeria might be a no go area(They weren't even planning on going there in the first place- security or not) but the rest of Nigeria is awash with opportunities. Anytime I'm flying into Nigeria, I always ask myself, whats bringing all these foreigners to Nigeria. The plane is packed with them. Aren't they scared of Boko Haram?? A few years ago, it was mainly Asians you'll find on the planes, but now, its Italians, Americans, Koreans, French, Germans and all of them. And the interesting thing is that they are now seeking other opportunities beyond oil. |
