I think Nigerians are so disillusioned that people now ignorantly condemn everything government does, even if it is for their good.

1. To the guy claiming coronavirus doesn't survive on surfaces past a few hours, you're wrong. Scientists don't understand coronavirus behaviour to date, and it can survive up to 7 days on certain surfaces. And no, it is foolish to leave it overnight. You don't know what the government knows, and may be someone confirmed with covid visited those premises, hence the decontamination in order to prevent others picking it up. Why leave it overnight when you can break the cycle of infection and prevent even 1 person from picking up the infection?

2 "They're mopping the state ". Ridicule is the other approach Nigerians take. All large scale disinfection use diluted sodium hypochlorite which is the active ingredient in bleach. China did the same as did South Korea. Hypochlorite is 99.99% effective in killing coronavirus on all surfaces.

3. They are wasting resources. Yes water is being wasted in order to keep the environment safe and keep you healthy. Which is more important to you?

4. "Another avenue to loot" whether or not the government undertakes this disinfection, money will still be looted, so no point there.

5. "They are poisoning people" We've come to accept scaremongering as a way of life, which is just pitiful. Hypochlorite doesn't poison you when you use it at home, but when govt uses same, it raises eyebrows

6 When did fire fighters start fumigating? Again, another misguided approach to bring everything down. Who else would you recommend to do it? These people are already being paid by government and have the requisite skills, and have easily been redeployed to offer this service too. How is this a problem?

7 See men with pot belle. This is just beside the point

It's almost like Nigerians want to be left to their fate, but the moment you leave them to their fate, they are up in arms and criticising you up and down, often ignorantly. This country's followership also needs a reorientation.

Madagascar has used it on less than 200 people (a near inconsequential figure for anyone familiar with clinical trials) but have exported it to us to do a human trial on us grin. There is limited safety information at the moment, no information about trials in animals. Our only conviction is because Madagascar has zero deaths therefore covid organics works, an 'evidence' reeling in circumstantiality. Be aware Madagascar had a successful lockdown, injected billions into their economy, but have convinced you it's only the herbal drink that made all the difference.

Madagascar is trialling their drugs on Nigerians. And we are paying to be part of that trial, whereas western medicine on the other hand will pay us to be part of their trials...hmmm. With Madagascar's big tourism industry down in the dumps due to current restrictions on foreign travel, the little nation has become an exporter of pharmaceuticals. Someone is all shades of clever. wink
If it doesn't work, I hope, at least, its not poisonous.

I am so surprised that people are passing comments ignorantly. The man in that picture is not a COVID-19 patient but a mentally sick person.
He used to live in that building on Taiwo road, Ilorin. The house was sold out and the new owner is demolishing and renovating but the man, instead of looking for other house/apartment decided to turn his car into a house, doing everything there (you know!).
The neighbours were uncomfortable with that nuisance and decided to call on COVID-19 Team (whose contact phone numbers had been well publicised) because of partial lockdown and refusal of few available vehicles to transport him.
The COVID-19 ambulance was sent to take him to hospital for psychological treatment. The driver didn't handle the evacuation well. You could hear him abusing the man. That is what the Governor referred to!

In what universe do you ring covid response team to attend to a psychiatric issue?
And then they show up in a covid response vehicle to take a mental health case into isolation!

Even the government's response doesn't deny that he's a suspected covid case, but somehow you know more than the government does.

My own observation

I don't think these are ncdc workers. I think they are just well wishers, neighbors or families of the patient. I think the driver came alone without any health workers and people around helper get the patient into the ambulance. Probably due to lack of health workers, or maybe they have called NCDC many times without response and they decided to take laws into their hands.

Whichever is the situation, this is very irresponsible, even if for sending a driver without PPE and support staff. This is horrific , however it's interpreted.

These frontline staff need to be immediately tested, and quarantined. They also need to sue the government for criminal negligence.
There's need to protect all frontline care staff. A fabric mask is useless against coronavirus and it is outrageous someone okayed for these poor men to be sent out to retrieve a coronavirus patient, wearing only a fabric mask. That is criminal!

The president of Congo has brought him back to Congo to help fight Covid-19 and he only returned after he got assurance that he will be protected from harm.

First, I have never tasted agbo, and have no intention of ever tasting something of unclear health benefit. I have however seen people who have in hepatology and renal departments coming in with a range of issues : acute liver failure, kidney failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastroenteritis etc Just conceding that you order agbo online to take gives me an idea of how seriously you take your own health, so I'm not surprised you would gulp down Madagascar's herbs without the faintest concern about the product's safety.

And please, living in America is no credential and for someone who lives in America, its sad you're yet to appreciate that there can be no premium on human life. Our people in Nigeria can be excused because they haven't seen any better health systems, but you're in a position to know better, and it's sad that you don't. Everyone assumes this is a rapid antibody test whereas the article clearly says its a rapid ANTIGEN test - - world of difference between both. Rapid antibody tests have been disappointingly inconsistent which is why NCDC has been averse to their use, but rapid antigen tests are a new territory altogether and a handful of research labs are working to develop these rapid tests.

PS: That said, the company's claim that these tests are currently being used in the UK raises suspicions about their motives, because the said tests are definitely not currently being used in the UK. The UK still offers only the good old swabs for PCR, so take this news with a pinch of salt

I've worked in Park Lane Teaching Hospital and UNTH both in Enugu, and autopsies are done in both hospitals, and I would think most tertiary hospitals in Nigeria do same too, that's why the department of Morbid anatomy exists. The fact you are not aware of this is no licence to make contrary claims.

Autopsies are done in rare cases like this one where the cause of death is both uncertain, and may become a matter of public health importance.

Based on cursory Internet search, the department of Paediatrics in Park Lane has done 7 autopsies between 2013 and 2017. It's not a huge number, but again Enugu is not overly litigious, and people are generally educated and are less likely to challenge probable causes of death suggested by the doctors.

Exactly my point, you've used the experience of One or two or three people to arrive at that curious conclusion, 'they hate us', three most often misused words

'They' - the behaviour of a group is completely reflective of the behaviour of any 1 member of that group

'Hate' - amplified awareness of the differences between groups pushed to the ridiculous extreme that if I say a mean word, then it's not a mean word, it's really hate.

'Us' - I have appointed myself spokesman for my group, therefore if I've had a bad experience, everyone else must have too.
