Politics / Re: Mimiko Declares 7-Days Of Mourning For Agagu by Pattey(m): 1:01am On Sep 16, 2013
"Mimiko Declares 7-Days Of Mourning For Agagu" Really? Isn't this just plain hypocrisy? Given, they may not be expected to come out to 'celebrate' his demise being political adversaries and stuff, but if looters get 7 days of mourning, what's to stop others from keeping it up?

If they know they'll be disgraced while they live and even in death wouldn't that be a motivation to tone it down?

Quite frankly, a condolence message should be enough; if not for anything, for the sake of courtesy. They should shove the hypocrisy of 7 days mourning down their woreva jare . . . because next thing we will hear now will be how the State Govt will suddenly vote some ridiculous millions for the funeral, apart from other millions we'll never hear off.

I say no to hypocrisy!

I hate arguing back and forth online (life is stressful enough as it is) so my last response to you.

Smack your child if you want (that's if you have children) its best left to every parent how to raise their children. My point was using smacking as a yardstick for the moral uprightness of Nigerian children is just laughable.I know we pretend to be holy and all but I certainly would not give Nigeria the award for the most morally upright nation on earth.

Morals means different things to different people though so whatever na you know. And as for that your epistle up there, I don't know what bullying can be worse than telling a junior to crawl on a granite floor till their knees bled(one of the reasons I became a day student in JSS1)

Goodnight and have a good week ahead.

If you were not lazy to read, you would have also seen smacking as the last resort. . . something which I also emphasized shouldn't be done out of annoyance to sooth your temper as a parent.

A very good example of how courteous and well mannered Nigerians are grin grin grin

Exactly! Nigerians know when to pull the plugs off the brains of silly brats like yourself

and do I also need to remind you that unlike your western role models;

Nigerian kids don't bully their mates till they commit suicide,

Nigerian kids don't practice the kind of insane bullying that creates social maniacs in the western world

Nigerian kids don't develop psychopathic tendencies because of emotional destabilization caused by their morally derelict peers, in other cases; unbalanced parenting skills. Examples are those fellows that go on shooting sprees

Nigerian kids don't carry their parents guns and blowing off school mates,

Nigerian kids don't practice karate with their toddler sibling until he/she dies,

Nigerian kids are raised to know the limits and those who fail to demonstrate good upbringing either simply refused to be of good conduct OR their parents were the outright failure.

The choice is yours

Really so Nigeria where kids are spanked has the most morally upright people(kids grow up to be adults don't they) in the world.I laugh in spanish.lets just leave it at different methods for different kids(I smack my kids if need be so am not doing oyinbo nothing). But if we are to look at the result so I.e. adults of both methods (Nigeria where spanking is the default discpline method or the west where communication is key besides oyinbos too smack their kids so I don't get all this oyinbo talk) I know which I will choose.

do you have a problem with reading OR with comprehension? whichever is a challenge for you, please find some good Samaritan close to you so he/she will break it down for you; your're apparently no different from the two-year olds we are talking about.
Religion / Re: Curse And Blessing; How Effective Are They? by Pattey(m): 1:46pm On Sep 15, 2013
Curses and Blessings work BUT ONLY when backed by the 'right force' I.e a force strong enough to make it happen and not just word of mouth.

Why do I say so; 1, there are some people you don't wanna mess with, trust me! - That's for effective 'force-backed' type.

2 - We curse Police, NEPA/PHCN, Politicians etc everyday. If it were to be by curse, shouldn't they all be giving birth to imbeciles? Or dropping dead whenever they oppress us?
Now that's type 2 - ordinary word of mouth shakara. In our mind we may think it'l work but truth is, it won't! Not unless its TYPE 1

NB: be it traditional force, christian or islamic etc; there has to be a spiritual projection to push that word of mouth beyond just word of mouth.

Now if what we're saying is; there is NO Power, dat wud be another topic entirely. And I can still introduce you to some people. . . Offend them and ur life will never remain the same again cheesy . . . Amen? grin

FYI: Its nt even 2yr olds, 20yr olds tell their dads to shut up (& other stuffs U dare nt try here)!

I'm sure if you read previous posts, you should have deduced that spanking; real hard or real soft, is to be a last resort for an ALASEJU child; not the 1st thing U do as a parent.
Family / Re: How Do You Deal With A Child's Tantrum In Public Places? by Pattey(m): 10:36am On Sep 15, 2013
Folks, please drop the 'terrible two' and other Oyinbo coined-up theories. Yes, they may seem true about our kids BUT we should note something important;

The western world has the highest number of morally inept, manner lacking, non-courteous, outright spoilt silly brats on earth. The reason for this is simple. The rod has been spared and the kids have been spoilt.

Now, this is not an automatic endorsement for spanking kids. No. A parent SHOULD NEVER spank any kid out of temper, it should be OUT OF LOVE.

Spanking a kid should be an entirely corrective measure and not one meant to sooth your temper.

If there are other ways such as distracting the child, going into a rough play session where he/she ends up laughing hysterically, then Fine!
Or just ignore the child until he/she comes back to his/her senses - which is my personal favourite though, PROVIDED he/she is not being noisy with the tantrums.

But we should also note that regardless of the other non-spanking tactics, some kids are just potential OGBANJEs, and those two/three lashes (not with anger of course) are the only functional reset buttons.

I love kids, and it breaks my heart to see em spanked. But when all psychological ways to placate fails, the child must not be left to get ROTTEN.

One last thing about the OP and those judging her 'intent'. Before you judge, make sure you've experienced something b4 or @least, Imagine it. Some kids could be sooooo annoying in public you'll wish you could assist their parents with the spanking. Trust me, many of 'those sympathizers' are actually waiting 4U to initiate that reset button.

All the sorry they say afterwards is more like; sorry kid, but serves you right for not getting it together fast enough.

Religion / Re: Catholic Priests May Be Allowed To Marry Amid Papal Changes by Pattey(m): 11:30pm On Sep 13, 2013
MAYOWAAK: Stories of Catholic priests sexually molesting male and female children have been on the increase in recent years. Sometimes, such inappropriate sexual acts are not with children but with adults. A few weeks ago, a Catholic cardinal, Keith O’Brien – the head of the Catholic Church in Scotland and the most senior prelate in all Britain – resigned after admitting to having had sexual relations with some priests. Ironically, O’Brien had been a vociferous voice against homosexuality in the United Kingdom.

It is not that such stories are not heard among other Christian denominations now and then, but they are on a large and recurring scale in the Catholic Church. It is not because Catholic priests have a higher libido than other priests and pastors or that they are worse in morals. The only reason for it is the compulsory celibacy enforced among the Catholic clergy.

Such sexual molestation stories are not rife in Nigeria. But it is not because they don’t occur – for Nigerian priests are as human as their European and American counterparts – but because of two main reasons: 1. There is still a deep stigma for rape – victims prefer to keep silent to avoid being stigmatised; 2. since most victims are usually Catholics, they and their families would prefer not to tarnish the image of their beloved church by going public – they would prefer to bear the trauma for life than be pointed to as the “enemies” that wanted to drag the name of the Catholic Church through the mud. So, the silence continues, and everybody pretends that nothing untoward goes on in Nigeria. That I dared to write this at all will be considered sacrilegious by many.

Has the priestly celibacy worked for the Catholic Church? Yes and no. Yes, because it has helped to portray the Catholic Church as different from other Christian denominations, and therefore unique. It has helped to portray the priests as different from the laity, thereby strengthening their power over the laity and increasing their aura in their eyes too. It has helped to sustain the image of the Catholic Church as an institution with a great tradition. In addition, it has helped it to a large extent to have priests that are not ruled by inordinate acquisition of wealth as well as priests that are not too afraid to die in the line of duty.

But celibacy has not worked and will never work for the Catholic Church, because it is against natural law. Only VERY FEW men and women can be truly celibate for decades. And those who want to be truly celibate do so without any compulsion. Some would say that the Catholic priests are not forced to be celibate. That is true, but a man who passionately wants to serve the Lord as a priest in the Catholic Church MUST take an oath to be celibate, even if he earnestly does not want to be one.

Celibacy was an introduction into the church. The church was over a thousand years old when it took a definite stand in 1139, at the Second Lateran Council, forbidding priests to marry. In 1563, the Council of Trent re-affirmed that celibacy policy.

Curiously, celibacy is not a biblical injunction. It is not in the Old Testament, neither is it in the New Testament. It is not ordered by Jesus Christ or His apostles as a condition for one to inherit the kingdom of God. Christ made it clear that in heaven, there is no husband or wife, while St Paul said that whether one marries or does not marry does not matter. In 1st Timothy 3, Paul listed the qualities of a bishop or overseer, and said inter alia: “A bishop must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, hospitable, an apt teacher, no drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and no lover of money.”

Christianity does not force its adherents to kill their libido. Sex drive is a natural and healthy thing that cannot be subdued by force. If it is subdued forcefully, it brews like a latent volcano, exploding one day in a destructive and embarrassing manner. It is a force that needs to be channelled to fruitful ventures, not caged. It is like hunger and thirst. One can control how much one eats or drinks, but one should not be forced to abstain from food and water. Even animals are not taught by anyone to engage in sex. In matters of sex, the difference between animals and human beings is that unlike human beings, they don’t have the capacity to manage and channel their sex drive properly.

Before becoming priests, many men would be convinced of their ability to be celibate all their lives. They start off well. But maybe a decade later, when the spiritual fire wanes or burns out, they see that they cannot control the sexual urge that rears its head in them regularly. And since they are not married and cannot resign as priests and face the odium of such an action, they look for the safest outlets: masturbation, paedophilia, homosexuality, and fornication. Children are naturally the easiest targets. Children are easier to deceive; children are easier to keep silent. CNN reported that a priest told a 12-year-old girl he wanted to defile who told him that such an act was a sin: “I am your priest. What I say is sin is sin. What I say is not sin is not sin!” And with such superior and fear-inducing arguments, he was able to disarm the girl, defile her and keep her silent until she became an adult and went public with her story.

Revolutionary men change things. Pope Francis can change this policy if he wants to. Luckily, clerical celibacy in the Catholic Church is not a dogma, but a regulation. A dogma like male-only priesthood is a Catholic dogma, irreversible by a Pope. But the ban on priestly marriage is a regulation, which can be changed by a pope overnight if he wishes.

Mandatory celibacy in the Catholic Church is an ill-wind that blows no-one any good. Just like the football ruling body, FIFA, saw reason after fighting against goal-line technology for many years for no other meaningful reason but to avoid change and maintain tradition, Pope Francis has the opportunity to be the pope that abolished compulsory celibacy in the Catholic priesthood. Every Catholic who truly loves his church should be on the campaign for the Catholic Church to discontinue that policy and save millions of children from sexual exploitation by the priests they trust and venerate, and also save the Church the embarrassment of constantly being bombarded with such unpalatable news from different parishes and dioceses.

Any time the story of sexual exploitation of children by a Catholic priest is aired or published anywhere in the world, it is not just the Catholic Church that is adversely affected by such news. The entire Christendom is affected and smeared too.

When a policy is not working, history makers face reality and change such a policy, thereby writing their names in gold in the process, while others prefer not to rock the boat and just continue to go with the tide, whatever the unsavoury consequences.

Nobody FORCED anyone to become a priest = Nobody FORCED anyone to be celibate. . . Consequently, if you wanna marry and procreate; stay out of priesthood, IF you must 'serve' God as a clergy, then find a church that permits you to have it all.

I think its that simple. . .

And; I also think

A lot of things are beginning to go wrong in the church, things that defined the uniqueness of different churches.

And like I've been saying, Pastors/Priests etc get their reverence from the congregation because we see them as 'closer to God' by virtue of their decisions to lead better lives than the rest of us. . .

They shouldn't be made to come down to our level. . . Just my ignorant submission

2, A thousand GEJs can NEVER be up to half the man Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi was. His leadership style might have had its snags, BUT research on his immeasurable accomplishments for Lybia.

Before we get carried away and wish away Gaddafi's achievements cos he was a 'tyrant', note that Nigerians will probably not be complaining now IF GEJ was a tyrant BUT doing good for Nigeria; things we can see and benefit from.

It is an insult to compare GEJ with great men angry

Which any reasonable will agree to very readily. However, because Gov. Sincere 9gerian: The police authorities are not fools. No one is above the law. If Gov Amaechi engages in acts that infringes on the laws, it is the constitutional responsibility of the police to call the governor to order. No sentiments. However, if the police acted unlawfully in this instance, then the president should sanction whoever was responsible.

Must you comment? I feel soooo tempted to call you a damned fool but I won't.

What has your comment got to do with a serving governor being denied access to the government house!!??!!! Even if his convoy was 'diverted', when did that start in Nigeria?

Are you aware of the security implication? Incase you're so daft and blinded (not saying you are, just in case you are) in being a GEJ apologist, the routes are carefully chosen and planned in advance.
What happens if the diversion was to lead them into a trap?

Lastly, eventho I want to call your comment an idiotic spin, last time I checked, Governors still enjoy immunity from ANY legal proceeding. That makes your comment as inconsequentially dumb as GEJ you desperately advocate for.

Religion / Re: How My Friend Was Brutalised By Winners Chapel Officials In Abuja by Pattey(m): 1:02pm On Sep 11, 2013
Next IG: @Op, I am not going to exonorate the church from some unwanted happenings within her, but this your story lacks substance. Why did I said so?
(1) Every Winners Chapel has a designated parking lot either within the Church premises or outside the gate but, it is either fenced or well protected.
(2) Your friend made the mistake of parking near the church (outside) when he has been severally warned not to. That shows a sign of disobedience to the church leadership.
(3) Your friend lied by saying that the traffic officials will asked him not park at a particular point without showing him where to park.
(4) If your friend had been a true member of the Winners Chapel for Five years, he should by now knows where Church members, Church officials and Pastors do park their vehicles. Because each have their parking lot. Even the for the Church members, where the first service attendees will park is different from the second service.
(5) With the security situation everywhere, why must you park your car anyhow or somewhere near the church without letting the officials?
(6) If truly he has been a true member, he should know that even if the head of the unit is against him, he should have gone into the church and report him to any other Unit Head, Deacon/Deaconness, Elder(s), or any Pastor and his case would have been attended to immediately without bias. Because the leadership of the church won't take their action lightly if at all, it is true.
(7) For the number of years he has been in the Church he is still not a member of any unit group? That cast a doubt on his true membership in that Church. Because if he belongs to any unit, he would have reported the matter to his own unit head.
(cool The Bible said, if you had a grudge against your fellow brother (Christian), never you take the matter to the judge outside, rather, present it to the elders (pastors) in the church for an amicable solution, we shouldn't allowed unbelievers to settle our matters.
(9) How will you feel when you caned your child and he immediately went outside to call your neighbour when he hasn't reported it to his mother?
(10) Your friend said the head of the Police Anti Robbery Team called him aside and told him to take up the matter. Haba! When a Senior (woman) Police Officer is around and had shouted at him, he still had the audacity to call your friend aside for at least 3minutes advice? Hmmmm!
(11) Think with your mind not with the head. I know there is an onslaught of evil allegations against the Body of Christ the world over, but, the good news is, They Shall Not Prevail. The Church will Keep Marching on until the day of resurrection.
(12) Shalom! Jesus is Lord!!

Only one thing made sense in your failed attempt to exonorate the church, it seems you find him guilty because he has been in the church for so long and failed to 'join any of the units'. #sigh. . . I wish u cud hear how that sounds.

Don't their car parks get filled up? Let's even assume the man was guilty, why is the church 'A Church' if the next thing is violence? And right there in front of the church? What would passers-by who were unbelievers think? After witnessing such, Can they ever be convinced again of the sanctity of the church?

I gues I should even pause here since erytin you said is actually random ranting, its pointless enlightening another potential Church thug who sees no big deal in beating up NON-VIP members of the church.

And yh, the church of God can nevr be brought down. If anything, its at risk from your kind who promote 'immorality and rascality' in the name of christ.

Nkan tio da O da! Ko l'oruko meji!!! - What is not Good is simply not Good. . . Let's call a spade a spade. There are several allegations of violence and sundry misconducts in that church yet some brainwashed elements with their brain twitch could 'support' ur ignoble litany.

What are you saying?

Why can't FG pay ASUU their earned allowance upon the fact that ASUU had already scaled it down from the actual 127 billion(as calculated for 3 years and 6months) to 87 billion?

Why can't FG implement the UNESCO recommended 26% budgetary allocation for our education?

Think of it,ordinary Ghana,Ivory coast and botswana with smaller Gross Domestic Product(GDP) are funding 31%,20% and 17% of their total budget to their education sector and we are funding our own hundreds of universities with just about 8.5%.

I will be the last person to cast aspersions on ASUU even though their actions are to my own and others detriment.

Soon FG will approve the 600billion for census as said by Festus Odimegwu,

Soon FG will venture on Space Exploration that can cost an outrageous amount of money

Whereas what "makes a nation" (education) is in jeopardy

"Vagabond Government" like the erst-while minister of aviation called it..

I totally support you jare! Infact, why don't we kukuma budget for anything else, or ok, allocate 70% to education as if it will get the dead brains we call lecturers to actually become productive.

Leave technical courses aside, even in the absolutely theoretical courses, are you aware our lectures are a colossal failure?

There are two things I've mentioned before, Opportunity cost and scale of preference. These are elements factored into what and what a government gives priority.

Education is very important, yes! Infact, with quality education, all our problems will end. But;

1- do we cos of that allocate UNESCO's 26% when our people are hungry? When in 2013 we are still patching pot holes on roads and lamenting on electricity?

2- will giving the eternal philandering block heads we call lecturers more money solve our problem in education?

3- Government should be allowed to prioritize as it deems fit and if for some reason education ends up with 50% in a particular year then so be it!

If you disagree, then you can start by analysing the budget and suggesting who should get a cut.
