PoliticsRe: Nigerian Students 'Trash' Embassy In Moscow Over Grants by Pattey(m): 3:01pm On Oct 01, 2013
If I'm not mistaken, whatever happens inside the embassy should remain subject to Nigeria's sovereign laws. I don't think they should be prosecuted by Russians for 'an offence' committed on 'international territory'; which is what the embassy is.

That said; Nigeria just toooo like misplaced priorities. Isn't it beneficial to pay em their living grants? Or do we wait until they do drugs etc so as to survive? It is well Ooo my people!

PoliticsNigeria At 53: To Roll Out The Drums Or Not? - We've all ignored something! by Pattey(op): 10:13am On Oct 01, 2013
Tafawa Balewa once spoke about how Nigeria can be united and progressive. Can't remember his actual words now but I'll put it thus; For Nigeria to be united and move forward, we must identify our difference, address these differences, embrace those differences and accept one another as we truly are.

Our strength lies in our diversity. Different people with different ideas and capabilities. Until we respect one another, we can never be united.

I may dislike you as an Igbo man cos I think you value money more than life, I may scoff at the Mallam on my street and within me call him a Cow, see that Yoruba guy waiting for his father's inheritance and say Lazy bones. In all of this; it should be limited to the content of individual character.

In NYSC orientation camp I sooo disliked the Igbos there. Why? They were all forming "voltron" I.e cliques and acting like segregationists. . . Guess what, of all the 'real friends' I made in camp; 2 were Yoruba, @least 8 were Igbo, and 1; Hausa.

I never would have imagined I'd end up with Igbo friends since I equally avoided them for being 'racist' in camp. After camp? Majority, of my acquaintances were still Igbo! Especially the girls (best part grin)!

The hausa guy still calls me regularly. . . But when last did I hear from my 'Yoruba' friends? When they do, I know itl probably cost me something cheesy

If you're from the North and I feel you act like a cow I'll call you a Cow, not because I perceive the North as such; but because you established yourself as a COW! Same for attributes in other tribes. Individuality is the key!

I am a Nigerian, no more, no less! I couldn't care less how the people in your 'locale' are reputed, I'll let show me who you are as an individual.

For while it may seem majority posses attributes we dislike, in the end, Our interactions as per individual basis should be the final judge.

We are free Nigerians; at least, we ought to be, don't let's hold ourselves captive in a jail of hatred, suspicion and general discord.

53 years of failure? yes!
Will it get better? I don't know!
Can it get better? Absolutely Yes!. . . Its up to each and everyone of us to make it happen.

Psalm 122:6 (New King James Version) Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you."

Nigerians, Pray for the peace of Nigeria so that you may also prosper and live in peace. If Nigeria does not prosper or experience peace; you also can not. That's the plain truth. More than prayers, conduct yourselves in ways Nigeria will be at peace and prosperous.

PoliticsPolice Trail Pro-amaechi Group To Three Different Venues To Stop Launch by Pattey(op): 1:05am On Sep 29, 2013
The Nigerian police in Rivers State continues efforts to frustrate the government of Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi as the police has reportedly moved to stop the inauguration of a
Pro-Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi group, RIVLEAF in Bonny.

According to reports, scores of policemen invaded the Industrial Centre, and later the local council on Bonny Island to stop the group’s inauguration.

The crackdown came barely 24 hours after the two organized Labour unions Rivers State issued a
21-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, to redeploy Mbu Joseph Mbu, the Commissioner of Police, over various abuses.

According to an eyewitness, the launching of
RIVLEAF was initially scheduled for Bonny Industrial Centre. But when the organisers saw the intimidating police presnce, they shifted the ceremony to the secretariat of the Bonny Local Council, only for the police to also follow them there, halting proceedings.

Chairman of the Council, Edward Pepple, who confirmed the incident to a local radio in Port Harcourt said that when the Police stormed the venue, a senior Police officer leading the team claimed that the Police had the information that some people bearing arms were gathered there.

Pepple also alleged that one of his Personal Assistants was briefly arrested. Not deterred by the antics of the Police, the inauguration was moved to a private individual’s house along Hospital Road on the island. The police also went there as well to stop it.

On Wednesday, September 25, about 13,000
teachers employed by the Rivers state Government who were directed to assemble at the Liberation Stadium to collect their letters of posting were dispersed by the Police who called them “touts and miscreants”, who were hired to protest against President Jonathan.

Observers of events in Rivers State said the police crackdown on public assembly appears to have
exceptions. For instance, the programmes by the Grassroot Democratic Initiative, GDI, which is the Political structure of Mr.Nyesom Wike, the acting Minister for Education, are never disrupted by the police.

Wike had been using the guise of inaugurating Ward executives across the state to kick off campaign for President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of 2015.

Is it just my imagination or did GEJ just add 13000 new pissed off young folks who are probably also 'feeling abused' by the police, to his seemingly growing list of enemies?

Even if some of those teachers were GEJ apologists like some people we have here on NairaLand, will their reasoning still be the same after getting thrashed and "tear gased"? All cos the President didn't feel comfortable with their gathering. . .

PoliticsRivers Teargas Incident: NLC, TUC Give IGP 21-day Ultimatum To Remove Mbu by Pattey(op): 9:09am On Sep 28, 2013
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Rivers state, have
threatened to embark on an
indefinite strike, if the
Rivers State Commissioner
of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph
Mbu is not redeployed in the
next 21 days.

They stated in protest of the
harsh treatment meted out
to their members earlier in
the week.

Armed police-officers had fired teargas at newly-
recruited teachers, in a bid to disperse them,
after alleging that the gathering was a politically
motivated.

The state NLC Chairman, Chris Oruge, and his
TUC counterpart, Hyginus Onuegbu, while
briefing journalists on Friday in Port Harcourt,
called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP),
Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, and the Police
Service Commission (PSC) to act on their
demand, if they were interested in the welfare
and development of Rivers State and the
country at large.

“The teachers, who were dispersed with teargas
at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt on
Wednesday, are our members, having received
their appointment letters as teachers,” Oruge
said.

He added that it was
disheartening that Mbu has not
given any tangible reasons for the police action,
warning that if his activities were not checked,
they could throw the state into a deep state of
anarchy.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the organised
labour hereby demands that Mbu be redeployed
forthwith to avert imminent industrial
disharmony in Rivers State", he continued.

“To this end, we hereby give a 21-day ultimatum
to the IGP and PSC to address the issues raised
above expeditiously.”

The organised labour is also seeking an
unreserved apology from the police
Commissioner over the incident.

PoliticsRe: Okada-Man Flings Himself In Front Of Oncoming Trailer Over Seizure Of Bike by Pattey(m):
I haven't quite seen meaningful comments right from the 1st page, but maybe its all part of why Nigerians deserve to continue suffering till their brains start functioning right.

Are some of you aware fake documents are procured for people WITHOUT them purposely doing it? I would have thought we had 'vehicles owners' etc on this forum. How much more 'faked' Okada papers. Besides, will it be the 1st time Law Enforcement officers will purposely do this to extort? Haven't you seen guys arrested for carrying 'fake' laptop receipts? All in a bid to extort them!

Besides, did we think about why this man preferred to die? His next meal was officially a closed case; his dependants, 'jonzed'!
That same bike being 'confiscated' from him would have been rode out that same evening by a new Police officer owner OR someone it was sold to.

You all run your mouths about revolution. Spineless ridiculous lot called Nigerians!

It only took a man to douse himself for Tunisia to go bunkers. How many have died, and how many keep trying to end their miserable lives here in Nigeria. Yet, y'all too-much talk and no action hypocrites still haven't found the ginger to start your so-called revolution.

Striping naked is now the norm.

In all, we call the victims names. Yes, they are wrong, no mistake about that. But can this happen if the society hadn't failed them?

Will this happen in a sane society were he has no reason for this sort of action? Yes! Once again, do not be a victim of society and become shaped against your will, BUT what happens when the spirit is completely broken?

I am not excusing the man's actions but seeing the bigger picture, I say Shame on you Nigeria! This wasn't an attention seeking fellow like the lot of you. This was someone who truly felt all was lost!

NB: if you should quote me and yan rubbish, it will be moi and thee 'entering same trouser' on NairaLand this wkend; maximum trouble!
