PoliticsRe: FACT-CHECK: How Accurate Is Osinbajo’s Claim On Nigeria’s Debt Profile by plaetton: 11:17am On Oct 29, 2018
MetaPhysical:
PDP went from $35billion in 2010 to $67.7billion in 2014. This is almost 100% debt increment in one term. Where did 32.7billion dollars go?
They shared it!
This slowpoke doesn't understand what debt is and what role it plays in the economy.

Every nation , even rich nations borrow to stimulate economic growth. The theory is that a GDP increment of say $1Tr or even half a $Trillion would more than compensate for the mere $35b in additional debt.
In fact, in the early days of this administration, the former finance minister Kemi Adeosun is on record as stating that Nigeria's Debt to GDP profile was quite low. She was using that as a justification for Nigeria to borrow more money to fund the government.
It is on record that the period between 2010 - 2015 recorded unprecedented economic expansion in Nigeria.
Borrowing without commensurate economic expansion is what they call the Debt Trap. And this is where we are right now, and it doesn't look any brighter unless a new vision is thrust into the economic management of Nigeria.

Is it not better you leave this illusion called restructuring, throw some support to buhari and when h wins, leverage on it to get power in 2023? Me and you know you wont get good governance from Atiku
With all due respect to you, I almost want to throw up on the words' throw some support for Buhari' ,' leverage' , ' get power in 2023'.
I don't even know where to start.

Let me start by saying that Buhari has been a plague in the Nigerian economic landscape since 1983. It was Buhari's reasonable mutiny in 1983 that transacted our maturing democratic nation , and thereafter plunged Nigeria onto a trajectory of precipitous woes one after another. This is not my opinion. This is fact. If you are old enough or have read enough, you would agree.
Buhari conned his way back to power in 2015 under the pretext of integrity. Well , 3 yrs has demystified him proper and his phantom integrity.Aside from being the most divisive, the most bigoted, the most aloof, Buhari has turned out to be the most incompetent excuse for a leader Nigeria has ever seen. Where do I start ? Is it the bloodsheding in every corner? , the unabashed NEPOTISM? , the daylight corruption ?, the corruption of the rule of law and democratic norms?, the election rigging ? the lack of transparency at NNPC?
In 3 short yrs, all standard of living indices have plunged to record lows.
And you suggest I show support for Buhari ,...so that ....what ?

Those of you that think Igbo presidency is such a big deal to Igbos are just being ignorant.
It is true that Nigeria is suffering from self- inflicted injury and scoring own-goals because there has been a deliberate and well orchestrated schemes to de-industrialize and render Igbos irrelevant in the economic and political scheme of things in Nigeria since after the civil war. It is important you understand that good governance, a stable and healthy economy is all that Igbo need to thrive, not Igbo presidency. Igbo presidency would not change anything for any Igbo or for Nigeria, unless Nigeria is restructured .

As for Atiku, he is not a saint. But Nigeria doesn't need a saint.Nigeria needs leaders with a broad mind, who understand pluralistic democratic culture, who value education, who understand economics and the economics of a functional education.
Say goodbye to Buhari and his 14th century mindset.

Nigeria must restructure or die a slow inevitable death. The current system is a non-sustainable, self-deceiving sham. And every Nigerian knows it.

Atiku is using restructuring as a selling point for his campaign. Obviously restructuring has a broad appeal in all corners of the country, except amongs the feudal Northern elites.

Whether Atiku will follow through with restructuring is only would tell, politicians being what they are.

The electoral defeat of Buhari should be the first imperative.

The one who expects an elected leader to serve one term in order to please him or his group or his ethnic group is the real idi.ot.

His penchant for name-dropping and self- glorification is unrivaled in his attempt to be reckoned with as a journalist.

All available facts( Google is your friend) testify that the period between 1983 to 1999 was the worst years of Nigeria's socio-economic history, as Nigeria was plunge from precipice to another.

On the other hand, all available , easily accessible facts Attest to that the period between 1999 to 2015 was a re-awakening of sorts. Every single standard of living index started pointing upwards. Corruption index went down, GDP went steadily up year after year. Most importantly, the middle class mobility, the internationally accepted standard for economic progress, maintained a steady growth for the first time in over 4 decades.
That , my dear friend, was progress.
As we look back with tears at 2015, we will come to recognize the years 1999-2015 as the Golden Era of Nigeria's economic progress.

If you expect Buhari(2004-150 cows, 2008 -150 cows, 2011- 150 cows, 2015-150 cows) to be a beacon of economic progress, then you are clinically delusional.

A man who cannot articulate an idea in clear English, a man who cannot stand on a debate to articulate his vision, a man who cannot face the Nigerian media to speak and answer questions on pressing national issues.

It's obvious that Buhari had been gaming the federal character statutes throughout his life to advance through the ranks.
Even his military credentials are questionable. By dint of their training, military men are conditioned to take responsibility.
This is a man who takes absolutely no responsibility for anything, including his treasonable acts of 1983 that plunged Nigeria into a 16 yrs trajectory of chaos and desolation.
History has unfortunately repeated itself since 2015 till date. A once promising democracy is once again thrown into an abyss of chaos by this very same Buhari.

Exactly.
The statement from Ipob is self-contradictory. Who is the worst enemy, Buhari or Atiku ?
The answer is as clear as night and day .

Voting for a loaf of bread or even a domestic chicken is preferable for most Nigerians than voting for Buhari.

In this particular predicament, any votes not for Buhari's main opponent, Atiku, would translate to an endorsement and vote for Buhari. Buhari must be VOTED out of power.

I don't know why this simple arithmetic is so difficult for a lot of people to put together.

Extremely interesting grin

I took time to analyze this from every angle and it kept coming back to his no referendum no election position.

PDP cannot afford to even have Nnamdi kanu throw his support behind them because that would mean they just signed their own death warrant by assuming the role of a biafran party hence pitching the other parts of Nigeria against them. The election would then effectively be between Patriots and non Patriots.

Nnamdi himself cannot afford to betray his own people after he took an open oath to their hearing that may he drop dead if he decides to betray Biafra.

Its a lose lose for PDP
The way people reason in this country just amazes me.
Igbos are not sheep, and have never shown any tendency towards sheeplike behavior.
Of course, all Igbos are very happy that Nnamdi Kanu is alive. But anyone thinking or speculating that Igbos will now vote for Buhari because Nnamdi Kanu is alive is completely narrow-minded and Stuupid.

Most Nigerians, including Igbos, would rather vote for a loaf of bread than for another 4yrs of Buhari.

PastorAIO:
But it is very interesting to study the various races through their history and look for the periods of mediocrity and the periods of exceptional greatness and see if there are any factors that these periods share in common.

For me, there are certain common factors that I have noticed.

When a people are about to rise in greatness there is an attitude where they question Authority and will no longer be spoon fed by traditions.

-This can be found in Europe during the period called the Enlightenment when all traditions including religious and political were rigorously questions.

-This can be found amongst the Jews in the works of people such as Spinoza and Freud and Karl Marx etc.

- It can be found in Russia during the reign of Peter the Great. Czar Peter has a hard time trying to break the shackles of religious traditions.

On the contrary when an advanced people fall behind into mediocrity it is the opposite that happens.

-Perfect example would be the Persian Islamic civilization that was quite advanced until Al-Ghazzali came along. Al Ghazali sought to reinstate Islamic doctrine over philosophy in Persia. He wrote a book called Incoherence of the Philosophers which basically attacked philosophy. His influence was the beginning of the decline of Islamic culture and dominance in the medieval world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ghazali

In fact there is a thread that you can find among every advanced peoples and when that thread is lost or attack it also coincides with the decline of the people into mediocrity. This is the Tradition of Philosophic Enquiry. (I would argue that especially Hermetic philosophy).

The Egyptians had it and from them it passed on to the Greeks. From the Greeks the Arabs adopted it and they flourished. After the Arabs lost it the Europeans adopted it and then began to flourish. The Chinese have always had these traditions for centuries too.
Amazing!

Ahhhh ! smiley The Hermetic Philosophy.

To put it more accurately, ..... Usury was a sin in Europe in the medieval days. Christians were not allowed to lend money with interest charges. Jews too, according to judaism, were not allowed to lend money at interest to each other. But there was an exception afforded to the Jews. They were allowed to lend money to foreigners at interest. This is how Jews came to dominate the Banking sector.

Deutoronomy 23:19-20
9Do not charge your brother interest on money, food, or any other type of loan. 20You may charge a foreigner interest, but not your brother, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything to which you put your hand in the land you are entering to possess

Since Europe's expanding economy needed loans and christians were not allowed to lend to each other, the europeans turned to the Jews who were allowed in their religion to lend to foreigners. Even though Europeans attacked Jews and wouldn't let them get involved in most other trades they allowed them to do Finance. It so happens that that was the most powerful aspect of any economy that was handed to the Jews. as
Thank you Sire, as always, for your enlightened and much more elaborate explanation.
Christianity EtcRe: Could Jewish Success Be Evidence Of The Existence Of Yahweh by plaetton: 12:15pm On Oct 08, 2018
LordReed:
Who popularized it? Where did Europeans encounter and adopt it from?

You can argue all you want but this Jewish exceptionalism is a myth propagated by their central mythology book in other to maintain a mystique. Same way lawyers use Latin words to maintain their status as interpreters of the law. There is nothing special about Jewish people just as there is nothing special about our Igbo brothers, they simply apply themselves to their fields of endeavour and excel. Abi is Amadioha also proven to exist by "Igbo exceptionalism"?
In some parts of Igboland , we had the Osu caste system. The Osu were supposedly dedicated to gods, so lived in vast tracks of land dedicated to various deities.
Now, when the missionaries came , the Osu were the first to convert to Christianity and the first receive western education. Thereupon, they became the first lawyers, doctors, engineers , etc.

Now, armed with western education and vast tracks of uncontested tracks of land, the Osu became the first set of wealthy and educated elites in Igboland and long thereafter.
Now, with the op's logic, we can also infer that Osu exceptionalism can be attributed to their custodian deities to whom they were dedicated to in those precolonial days.

The Jews share a similar history.
In Europe, the jews were persecuted and excluded from the nobility. There were not allowed to be part of trade guilds. To survive, the engaged in everyday petty trading, taking advantage of every demand opportunities in buying and selling. Thereafter, they became the merchant class if Europe. And as with societies, the merchant class is the wealthy class. While still discriminated and excluded from certain occupations, they continued to build critical mass in trading. Saturated with accumulated wealth, they went into moneylending and goldsmithing.
As anyone who knows the origins and history of banking can understand, this gave them enormous power and leverage everywhere they were.
Soon , they were banking for the Vatican, kings and princes of Europe, lending them money, with interests, to fund their sectarian wars.
And lest I forget to mention, they jews were the first to adopt formal education as a necessity.

So , its easy to see how persecution from Christian Europe nurtured and sustained Jewish survival and exceptionalism to the modern day.

In what he described as a prophetic declaration over Nigeria, Osinbajo said that the season for Nigeria’s promotion and progress has come.

“This anniversary is an opportunity to bless our nation. This 58th year of Nigeria’s independence will mark a great new beginning of peace, prosperity, abundance.

“Nigeria, you will be exalted, you will not fall, you will excel, you will rise beyond the imagination of the world and you will be a pride to Africa and the world.

“This is the season of your exultation, Nigeria, the season of your renewal, season of your restoration.

“All that we have lost will be restored; where we have failed, we will succeed. We declared that deaths and destruction, every device of Satan have failed over Nigeria.”

Osinbajo also prayed for the family of the deceased pilot in the Nigerian Air Force jet that crashed on Friday during rehearsal for the celebration of Independence anniversary, Squadron Leader Baba Bello, and two survivors.

Prominent dignitaries at the event included: Wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, Mrs. Beatrice Ekwueme, wife of former Vice President, Victoria Aguyi Ironsi, wife of former Head of State, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, former Head of State, Gen.
