PoliticsRe: Why Are The Igbos Backing Ambode Despite The Fact That They Were Cursed... by plaetton: 8:17pm On Sep 30, 2018
HardMirror:
It beats my imagination that the ibos have made it a duty to back ambode despite the fact that because of ambode, oba akinolu cursed and threatened them with the infamous 'Lagoon curse'.

Why is it ok that a man must have 8 years in office when the fact remains that he has done nothing special considering the amount of money lagos state has.

Is it now a problem for his popularity to be challenged by his party?

Please lets us be reasonable. Let the Apc do their primaries ambode or not, lagosians would decide when the general election comes
Where is your evidence that Igbos are supporting Ambode ?
Have you taken any polls that suggest that Ambode supporters are disproportionately Igbos ?
Are all residents of Lagos state not entitled to freely support one candidate or another ?
Are Igbos remotely responsible for the political division and confusion now engulfing Lagos state?
Or,
Are you , as I presume, a non-Igbo, subconsciously telegraphing a subconscious fear that the political clout of the Igbo residents of Lagos state may very well determine the next governor of Lagos state, and perhaps the political direction of the state in the future ? undecided

bible isn't a scam, laziness on the part of the readers and lack of research causes smart guys to use it as a tool to scam people. each chapter was written by different people with almost different knowledge of life and philosophy. like books written by mosses reflects his background as someone who grewup in an Egyptian household, and understand magic very well, books written by Mathew reflects his personality has a government tax collector and a runs guy. the first few chapters/books written in the bible was written 1000 years plus to when authors like peter wrote theirs. overall the roman emperor that supported the compilation of different Jew books, to form modern day bible, used books that can persuade people to fear authority, and be tax compliant. Solomon and moses, wrote several other librating books that was purposely left out of the bible
Good try. At least you have better understanding than the far majority of bible readers and owners.

However, there is ZERO evidence that a historical Moses existed in the way written in bible.
There is also ZERO evidence in the bible that Moses supposedly wrote any part of the bible.

Closer to what you stated, the bible is collection of myths, allegories and fables from ancient Egypt, ancient Mesopotamia, Canaan, etc, with a tinge of Greek and Roman religious beliefs and myths mixed in between.

The New Testament authors were anonymous ghost writers who were writing their own opinions and beliefs for different audiences.

Also added to the mix is 2000yrs of translations, transliterations, revisions and redactions.

Now, when you have such a convoluted assemblage of myths, doctrines and dogma in the hands of self appointed interpretors and bursers for an imaginary being, then you have yourself the GREATEST SCAM , the greatest self-refueling scam in the history of humankind.

So called educated people can't see that its in our best interest to have our own national carrier as it used to be before PDP destroyed it with mismanagement and looting.

Now this FG has reopened the talks and plans and for them to get it absolutely right, they obviously needed to postpone it so they can strategize better.

A clear indicator that this FG is committed to make this work was when they cleared all salary arrears owed all the former staff of Nigerian Airways.

I believe this is so they can have a clean slate to relaunch on.

PoliticsRe: 55 Days After Returning To PDP, Gemade Defects To SDP by plaetton: 4:07pm On Sep 17, 2018
Daniyke88:
One of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Barnabas Gemade has announced his defection from the party to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) despite having picked PDP’s Benue North East senatorial nomination form.

Gemade who was formerly a National Chairman of the PDP said he exited the party because Benue State governor Samuel Ortom betrayed him over Benue North East senatorial ticket.

The senator, who is currently representing Benue North East Senatorial District in the Senate, had in July defected to the PDP from the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) few weeks ago with the assurances of getting the ticket for his third term in the red chamber against the wish of a former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam.

The duo had, in the 2015 general elections, contested the senatorial seat, which Gemade won.

It would be recalled that in the buildup to the senatorial primary of the PDP in 2014, Gemade had defected to APC realising that Suswam, then a sitting governor, would frustrate his ambition on the platform of PDP.

With his defection to SDP, the tussle will again be rekindled between Gemade and Suswan for the Benue North East senatorial ticket.

Christianity EtcRe: The church is the solution to Nigeria's socio-economic problems‎ by plaetton: 1:47pm On Sep 03, 2018
DeepSight:
I don't think this is entirely accurate in terms of history. Certain societies have repressed religion and that very act has been a symptom of a generally repressive state - and as such in those instances it would be wrong to state that the emasculation of a religious order led to a "freer" state. Notable examples include Russia, Nazi Germany and China.

On the other hand religions despite their colorful and many times dark history have actually on occasion been a positive agent for change - as may be said with the motivating factors for many of the prime movers against the slave trade for example - they were deeply religious people. This is not to take away the dark aspects of religions and certainly not to deny the fact that religious texts were also used to justify slavery.
Salutations, my Wordy Sire. cool
I trust that all is well with you . wink

Whereas I do not disagree with any of your points, I will, however, say that by the use of the word ' emasculated' , I did not mean forceful emasculation at all.
No, not at all.
Forceful emasculation would also mean forceful emasculation of free thought, an anathema to progress .

Rather, by emasculation of religion, I meant the gradual and steady devolution of the powers of the religious orders, the slow and steady encroachment of scientific curiosity, and the steady consensus adoption of scientific rationalism as a much more reliable arbiter of reality and existence. This is the emasculation of superstitions, and with it,religious superstitions and thought.

First of all, religion is not and has never been in the business of progressive nationbuilding. Religion exist to shackle and hold populations of people mentally captive for exploitation . Nothing else.
As you can see from a brief glimpse of history, the more the religious order is Emasculated, the freer , the more peaceful, the more progressive a society becomes. That's not my opinion. That's simple history.

Secondly, I find it ironic that you used the Word ' parasite' to describe a nonreligious person.

Christianity EtcRe: The church is the solution to Nigeria's socio-economic problems‎ by plaetton:
oneolajire:

In my last article, Christians, Churches And Tithes Are Not Nigeria's Underdevelopment Problems . https://www.nairaland.com/4611907/christians-churches-tithes-not-nigerias  I promised to write on how churches and christians can help accelerate socio-economic development of Nigeria. Yea, the strength of the churches in Nigeria is massive because of the financial strength they possess as this can be harnessed to help more in nation building.‎

Agriculture: Agriculture is a major sector that the church needs to invest massively to help achieve rapid development. If each mega church can invest a minimum of 20 million naira into cattle ranching in almost all the geopolitical zone in Nigeria, there will be abundant meat for local consumption and export.

The terrorism perpetuated by Fulani herdsmen against the farmers and Christians would be a thing of the past as the evil monopoly of beef production will been broken when there is massive investment in modern cattle rearing. Other sources of animal protein should also be explored to create varieties.

I believe that if the church can invest thirty percent of her investment in university education and TV broadcast alone on cultivation of rice, palm oil, and other staple food items, the number of unemployed in the churches will also reduce greatly.

I believe the church should learn much from a Nigerian called Rev Father Nzamujo, Songhai Farms, www.songhaifarms.org, Port Novo. He left his comfort zone in the US to start a multi-disciplinary farm in Port Novo after he was rejected in Nigeria. He succeeded at winning souls for Christ as well as meeting the physical needs of people.  ‎

Library: Library provision is another major aspect the church can help Nigeria achieve rapid transformation. Ben Carson, Thomas Edison and many other Americans achieved greatness because they made use of public libraries. For a nation to develop, I believe students should be more familiar with the libraries than the political parties and entertainers.

Technology hubs: Menlo Park, USA, was the world's  first privately owned research and development lab/workshop, established by Thomas Edison. Several products were developed there while Henry Ford later developed his first car from this same workshop. After then, several other people and organisations have built their own research and development centres.

I have seen and read several prototype inventions made by Nigerians which could not be developed into commercial products.  So many ended up on the shelves while some were lucky to be developed abroad. It would be a great thing if the church can invest in creating few technology hubs in Nigeria to help commercialise technology prototypes, probably in association to the universities they have.

Installation of solar power facilities are have been discovered to be a potent solution to the problem of power supply in Nigeria. Unfortunately, solar power facilities are very expensive, but I believe if the church can use her technology hub to invest in the manufacture of this product  in large quantities, there will be cheap source of power supply for all.

Impact Makers: The most effective way the church can make tremendous impact in our society is to produce impact makers like Joseph, Daniel, Esther and Nehemiah. The political and economic situation in Nigeria  is terrible because it is filled with visionless and greedy people as a result of the absence of impact makers. We need more of the former NAFDAC DG, late Dora Akunyili who will courageously take their Jesus to workplaces and make generational impact.

Note to Christians: Christians must understand that their major duty is not just about evangelism and running other church programmes, but must learn to provide for the needs of the worshippers as well. In Act 6: 1-7, the apostles made provisions to meet the needs of the disciples. In Act 4:34-37, disciples sold their properties and the funds were used for evangelism and welfare of their worshippers. Thank God they sold their properties because persecution later dispersed them.‎

Today, Nigerian Christians do not necessarily need to sell their properties for social services because there is no persecution to disperse anylonger, but to engage in ventures that will be used to better the conditions of living. Christianity is not a state religion in Nigeria so this is the reason why total dependence on the government is dangerous. It must be understood that making economic impact in the society makes Christianity more acceptable.

Finally, It is so unfortunate that Nigeria is now known to be the world's capital of poor people. Blame game produces no development. Poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment is a common feature of all tribes, religion and association. Therefore all hands must be on deck to turn situations around. ‎
Absolute trash.
A mishmash of delusions and convoluted logic.

Why not also say that the Toothfairy is the solution to Nigeria's socio economic problems ? huh

In fact, I profer that Amadioha is the solution to Nigeria's socio economic problems. And I can marshal out a more cogent argument to support that.

I took pains to read the article, hoping that the writer would cite historical or modern day examples of nations where religion was or is a social economic driver.
Rather, the writer just chose to take me on a merry-go-round of delusions, ignorance, and wishful thinking.
Funny that the writer made reference to Silicon Valley as a hub of scientific and technological innovations, but failed to tell us home many Bullshyt mountains( churches) are located in that geographical area, or any statistics that show that majority of those that populate Silicon Valley are Christian evangelists.

Religious superstitions and magical thinking are the complete opposites of economic progress and social harmony.

Like the Ghanaian leader said, People in the diaspora, be they legal or illegal migrants in those countries, contribute greatly to the economic development of their home nations.
Diaspora Nigerians remit approximately $22b-$25b to the Nigerian economy every year. That's far more than any foreign investors, even in the oil sector, brings into our economy.

It takes other leaders, even from our neighboring countries, to show us how utterly useless our own truly is.

Kudos to you... I quite agree with you... 80% of people will disagree with your assertion. Oya, mommas' "shildren", where hath thou?
Nonsense.

The love between a son and mother are natural, pure and unconditional. It never wavers.
The love between a man and his wife is mostly predicated on a 'give and take' basis, fluid, often unequal, hardly stands the test of time, and can easily evaporate when the hormones have cooled down.
After a few years of marriage, couples are merely tolerating each other based on the mutual respect and trust built up over the years , the bonds with their offsprings . Where mutual respect and trust are wavering, love is no where to be found.

Love of a mother and love of a wife are not in the same category.
A man can love and marry 10 wives over the course of his life. But a mother's love will always endure and comfort him at any point in his life.

An eternal afterlife makes absolutely no sense, no matter how desperate one is trying to believe it. An eternal afterlife for one out of several billion species is a silly proposition, because it negates the cyclical nature of life and death, simple to complex, renewal and decay, the very rhythm upon which the universe is anchored.

And even an eternal afterlife were plausible, it would logically depend on how well you live your present life and what positive legacies you leave behind your earthly sojourn, not what silly prehistoric superstitions you believed while were alive.
