Sections of the so-called newly reconstructed road is already beginning to develop potholes. The contractor handling the road were busy pouring coal tar while it was raining and everything was messed up. It would be a surprise if that road lasts up to a year. A busy road like Douglas where rogues operate unhindered yet the government couldn't put street light there. God knows we can't afford to waste another 8 years. |

DonXavi: The Force Intelligence Response Team, IRT of the Nigerian Police Force, Led by Abba Kyari has arrested seven employees of an energy company, Xinxin energy in Odogbolu, Ogun state, for kidnapping and killing a 65-year-old Chinese national, Defa Song, the father of Hongli Song who is the owner of the company where they worked.
Vanguard reports that the seven suspects identified as Adetayo Adeniran, Hammed Jabiri, Jayeola Olalekan, Animashaun Mustapa, Akeem Lawal, Moruf Razaq and Yinka Jayeola, had in February this year, conspired to abduct Defa Song. They abducted him while he was stepping out of his daughter's factory and took him to an unknown destination where he died. They contacted his daughter demanding a N50 million ransom for his release.
The daughter of the victim immediately petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, who ordered operatives of the IRT, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, to launch a manhunt for the suspects and rescue the Chinese national. Special IRT teams were deployed and a few days into their investigations, a vulcanizer working for the company, Adelekan, was arrested. During interrogation, 34-year-old Adelekan told the police that he and seven other persons working for the company including a security guard, orchestrated the plan to kidnap Mr. Song. He said the 65-year-old man died in their custody a few days after he was kidnapped because he fell sick and was not given proper medications. According to Adelekan, they gave his body to some fishermen to help them to dispose of it and went ahead to demand a ransom of N50million from their boss.
“I am from Odogbolu area of Ogun State, I am married with two children, I am a primary school dropout. I am a vulcanizer but in 2019, I was employed by Xinxin Energy Company in Odogbolu as a mechanic and a vulcanizer. They were paying me N60,000 monthly and I worked for them for three months before Mr Song came from China and sacked me because I bought a vehicle with the salary I was earning.
Then one of the security men working for the company, known as Israel called me and suggested that we should kidnap the man so that his daughter who owned the company would pay us a huge ransom. I called my younger brother Hamed Jabiri, who also worked in the company and informed him about the plan.
He bought the idea and invited one Moses, who he said was a cultist, who had guns. This was in October 2019, we held a meeting and planned how we were going to kidnap the man. On 16th February, 2020, I was given a Corolla car to repair, and I felt it was a good opportunity.
After repairing the car, I called my friends; Ade Tayo, Adeniran Dele, and Amend and when we got information from the security man that Mr Song had stepped out of his house, we went after him and kidnapped him. We took the man first to a bush close to my shop and later to the home of one Morufu while Adetayo started talking to the man’s daughter on phone. He demanded the sum of N50million as ransom, but while we were still negotiating I got a call from the people looking after the man that he was dead.
We then put the man’s corpse in a sack, before putting it in a drum and I drove the vehicle to a riverbank where some firemen were called to take the drum away with the boat. Moses was the only person who followed them to where the drum was disposed of.'' he said
Another suspect, Ahmen Dabiri, 29, who is a native of Lagos State said during the operation, Mr. Song opened the mask he had on his face and recognized him.
“ I’m married with three children, I am an auto electrician and I work at Xinxin Energy Company. In October 2019, Olalekan called me and said we should kidnap Mr Song and that his daughter, who owned our company would pay any amount we demanded as ransom. When Olalekan had a vehicle he was repairing, he called and informed me while I called my friend known as Moses who was a member of Aye confraternity.
On the day the security man who was our informant monitoring the man called that the man was coming out, we went there swiftly and when we caught the man, I rubbed Aboniki balm on his eyes before taking him away. It was Moses who organized where we kept the man. While we were waiting for the man’s daughter to pay the ransom we demanded, he opened the mask I was putting on and he recognized me as one of the persons working for his daughter.
I told the security man who brought the job about it and he suggested that I should kill the man after I have collected the ransom, but unfortunately, the man died before the ransom could be paid and we disposed off the body. But the police came later and arrested us.”
Another suspect, Adetayo Adediron 36, a native of Oyo State, said he got involved in the crime because he was in search of money to start up a business.
“It was my friend that got me into this trouble. I approached him, begging him to help me get a job at the Chinese company where he was working, then he suggested that I should join the gang to kidnap the Chinese man.
I was the person that drove the Toyota Corolla on the day of the operation and I was hoping I would use the money to set up a business. I was the one who called the owner of the company to demand ransom but I was disappointed that the people looking after the man killed him before the ransom could be paid” he said
The police is still searching for Mr Song's body that was dumped in the lagoon.

That is why we have been governor since Amaechi and our support made Odilli gov in 1999 because of our cultural affinity even though odilli is not ikwerre.
After Wike, we ikwerre people can support anybody to be governor, but in Rivers State we don't play ethnic politics. You become governor base on your credibility, and acceptance across the state.

proeast: So much ignorance in one post. So because there is a port in P.H. means Ikwerre is a coastal community?
Firstly, P.H. is not exclusively owned by the Ikwerre. The port in P.H is not at the coast with Atlantic ocean rather it is on a river channel. Same way it could be built at Obuaku in Abia state that is closer to the Atlantic ocean than Ikwerre land. Pick up a damn geography or atlas book and read!
Secondly, there are more oil and gas fields in the Asa area that comprises Obigbo and Ukwa areas than Ikwerre land. Most other oil coming from Rivers are in Ogoni and offshore, so who lied to you that Ikwerre land produces hundreds of thousands of oil?
Thirdly, you claim that Ikwerre population constitute 45% of Rivers population?! You must be deluded to say that. Rivers comprises of Etche, Ogoni, Ijaw/Kalabari, Asa/Ndoki, Ogba/Egbema etc. Yet you claim that only Ikwerre is 45%? Ikwerre that is found in just Ikwerre local government and Phalga which it shares with others? FYI, Ikwerre is not up to 10% of Rivers population. The only thing that is giving you an edge is because parts of the state capital falls in your community which makes it convenient for you guys to leverage the large Igbo community population in P.H as well as other Igboid areas that vote in solidarity with the Ikwerre. However, this will soon change. By the time the hate you are preaching against Igbos matures, you will then understand that Igbos have enough spread and resources to cut you guys to size. I laugh at you guys when you continue to expose yourselves in a state like Rivers where there are diverse interest groups waiting for an opportunity to exploit. The Ikwerre has continued to make itself an enemy to Igbos but when it will backfire on you guys, I hope you won't cry foul.
Lastly, you said that Ijaws are not your enemies. Well you are free to bask in your ignorance and naivety. However, you can ask questions about what happened during the time of old Rivers State when the Ijaws were a majority. While at it, you can also ask how the Ijaws treat their neighbors (the Itshekiri and Urhobo) in nearby Warri, Delta State. By the time you alienate Igbos living in Rivers and other Igboid areas of Rivers State, that is when you will know that you're no match with the Ijaws. Worse still, they have rugged topography and grooves that will always help them in any hostility and they always embrace their brothers regardless of the state they fall under.
During the Warri crises, Ijaw mercenaries were coming from Bayelsa and Rivers State to terrorize the Itshekiri before they called for OPC to help them. Now, ask yourself, when the Ijaws decide to turn on you which they will surely do considering how events are unfolding in Rivers, do you think you can withstand them? If otherwise who do you think will come to your rescue?
Continue dancing in ignorance, but a day of reconning is coming. |

IkwerrePikin: Your comments shows lack of proper information. Why is the capital of Rivers state called “Port” Harcourt? The port there is because of the sea port in Port harcourt and where is it located? “Ikwerre” land.
If you don’t know Ikwerre produce hundreds of thousands of crude oil per day. We and the ijaws are not enemies, we live together peacefully as Niger deltans. The residency of Ngige in VI is the effect of a economic deficiency back in Anambra, the state he administered as an executive governor.
If he had done in Anambra what Asiwaju did in Lagos there would be no need of a VI vs Mushin compare in his narrative....
He failed to make a VI in Anambra. Thats why he is in a VI in Lagos.
It exhibits the incompetency of governance in SE....for an executive Governor to say publicly that he is resident of VI and better privileged than a resident in Mushin....both in a foreign land.
Should I go buy mansion in NY and blast Americans in ghetto that I am better than them? Look at my own country Nigeria....what chased me to America in first place, could the mansion not do me a lot of good in Nigeria?[/s] I don't know why you like comparing apples with oranges just to justify your tribal rants. How many times will they educate you on the status of Lagos in Nigeria? If Ngige left Anambra to live in say Osun, Oyo or any other SW state then you can make such argument but he is living in Lagos, Nigeria's former capital for donkey years. Is the development of Lagos a legacy of Yorubas or because it was a former capital. Are Yorubas not living in Abuja? So, let's assume that Nigeria moves the capital to Jos in 2050, then the Gwaris in Abuja will start telling Yorubas that they're living there because they couldn't develop their region? To whom brain is giving, sense is expected. |

B3ACHSIDE: I said I support airstrip & Control tower in each senatorial districts of large states like Cross river . The governor of Cross river is building cargo airport at Obudu which I think is pointless and waste of money . Distance from Calabar to Ogoja or Obudu should be 3.5 Hours with good freeway network. 1.5 Hours with rail network. Calabar to Uyo should be 30 minutes with good freeway network, no need for too many airports , just one world class . There's a huge economic benefit in unity than many tiny non viable airports. Without my points implement , Nigeria and sub saharan Africa will keep being a shithole . I don't have to care ,and soon I may not care anymore if the foolishness continues. I'm giving you wisdom,be grateful . Alright, thanks for the clarification. But this thread is about Igbos and Igboland, thus if you have anything positive to say, you can air it but otherwise just save it for your place. Unfortunately, Cross River doesn't seem to have the resources or a significant diaspora population that can help to implement your grandiose ideas At op, we can also consider the idea of building highrises in Igboland. We have limited lands and this will also help to improve our skyline to look like normal international cities. One thing I notice is that once a particular trend is started, it will take a life of its own. We have a huge dispora population that are always willing to invest in real estate. So instead of building all these small duplexes here and there, how about building blocks of 10 storeys collectively and selling the flats within it as units? I know that power is a serious challenge to this, but solar has become more efficient in recent times, therefore if roofs of such buildings are covered with solar panels can't it generate enough energy to power the lifts while generators/PHCN will be used as a secondary source of power? |

Will Nigeria break-up someday? The answer is a resounding yes!
Will it break-up in a voilent way like Yugoslavia? The answer is no!
Nigeria fought a bitter civil war in 1967-70 and almost 3 million people died. Since then the country has remained a nightmare. Another major crises will be nipped in the bud by a combination of EU as well as UN and US. These three bodies understand how damaging a full blown war in a country like Nigeria will be on the rest of Africa, particularly the West Coast. The refugee crises it will unleash can only be imagined.
Unlike in 1967 when most other parts of Nigeria believed in it aside the Igbos, all those people have lost faith in Nigeria today and they wouldn't be passionate to fight for it like they did in 1967.
Lastly, Nigeria is a weak country contrary to what many of its citizens believe. So, there is hardly any leader today who will want to stand against a combined EU, UN and US order to seizefire. |

I think it's pointless bragging about these things. Norway population is 5 million, Poland is 37 million. Poland is not better than Norway . They have different personalities ,no big deal. Why do Africans love bragging about having large population or more developed or more industrious or more this and that or thinking they are better than one another ,etc? That is why Nigeria and Africa is a shithole.
You said ,in my perception in a sort of bragging manner "Igbo land has population of 35 million and can stand as a country" . I say whether igboland has population of 1 million or 100 million it's an ethnic nation and can still be a country.
You said,in my perception in a sort of bragging manner " Igbos built igbo land without any help " I say Igboland receives allocation from Nigerian government just like other ethnic group , but the politicians are corrupt.
And finally , all of these shows of unity are only a facade because i have observed that none of the ethnic groups are truly united . there's simply no unity of purpose, whether governmental or private . Also note: —Anambra is benefiting from being the entry point into Eastern Nigeria for basically every good and service. —Kaduna s benefiting from being gateway from Abuja into the North —The 6 SS states are benefiting from being massive oil producers —Kano is benefiting from Northern commerce Ogun may come above FCT but it is 100% due to Lagos! If Abia or any other state at that borders Lagos the way Ogun did, they will still be able to reap off from Lagos. Why would you want to compare Calabar that was used as an administrative center during a time when horses and trekking were the available means of inland transportation with Lagos that was the capital during modern times? Did you even know that most of the key infrastructures in Lagos were developed in the 1970's, a period of the famed cement Armada when ships flooded the coast of Lagos? If Lagos is what it is today based on Yoruba efforts, then why didn't you replicate it elsewhere in the SW? The emerging hype is Ogun state but have you wondered why? The reason is simple, Lagos is filled up already so the spillover is naturally going to Ogun as the nearest state to Lagos. The IGR of Ogun is not coming from its biggest towns like Abeokuta or others but from the industrial estate in Sango Ota and Agbara, which were built to cater for Lagos. If the capital of Nigeria had been Calabar or P.H. etc. between 1919 to 1993, a whopping 74 years and during Nigeria's haydays, the places would have been exactly the same way Lagos is while Lagos would have been more or less like how Calabar is at the moment. Abuja was a jungle filled with wild animals as recently as 1993, but do you see how the city is at the moment? Is Abuja not currently as developed as Lagos in just over 2 decades! Is Abuja currently the way it is due to the Gwaris who are indigenous to the place? If Abuja can rival Lagos already in less than 30 years, from being a jungle, can you imagine what will happen when Abuja attains the same 74 years Lagos enjoyed as capital of Nigeria?? I don't why we will see the truth as educated people and still turn around to make idiotic statements. |

Cmanforall: There are members getting such contracts. He may not want to mention names because of political affiliations. But I believe this could be his opportunity to make history. List them! Expose all corrupt officials. You have been a governor, senator and now a minister. What else does he want?
I don't know why National Assembly members will also be contactors. If they choose to be both, then they should openly declare that. If any of them had got an NDDC contract and executed it perfectly, there will be nothing to be scared of. Only that there is high chance of embezzlement. Nigeria truly needs restructuring! That is the evil system they're running in Nigeria. The Senate has become a cesspit of corruption. How can a handful of men that are working less than the average university lecturer, and many of them with less qualifications be destroying the country like this. They aware themselves criminal wages and allowances and still turn around to embezzle monies that were mapped out for projects. This is insane! It is highly despicable to say the least. It is obvious that the Senate is filled with kleptomaniacs that have no limit to graft. These guys won't mind to sell the country provided they've secured the bags for themselves and their immediate families. It's so sad and frustrating that Nigerian masses have been totally 'raped'. |

RIVERS1stson: [s]Will you shut up and stop mentioning Imo state everywhere. There's absolutely nothing in Imo state except those commercial sex hawkers. Most Imo people are either in Lagos, PH, Onitsha and maybe Kano.
Imo state's economy is not different from the economy of Ebonyi state. I don't see why you should be disturbing this thread with Imo this, imo that.
[/s] Sorry, I don't discuss with psychos. Next please! |

Blackking98: That'd be a welcome development. Restructuring is the way. If the oil companies and other companies that source their materials from the SS and SE can leave Abuja or Lagos and relocate back fully it'd be a big boost for both regions. Restructuring will definitely boost the economies of Southern states. States like Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Imo should mount serious pressure for oil companies to relocate from Lagos and Abuja and open their registered offices in these states. Enugu will be able to attract more international airlines and consulate offices of certain countries as well as regional offices of companies and it will boost its economy. Imo state is leveraging on two things namely oil and gas and remmitances. Remember that remittances is now earning more forex for Nigeria than oil, and Abuja, Lagos and Owerri is where most of these remmitances are going. Any smart governor in Imo state would map out an area especially around New Owerri and build world class infrastructure which will attract more of these remmitances. Imo state is already ranking high in services and real estate and such infrastructure will push it to start rivaling Abuja. Anambra and Abia can leverage on trade and industry to build one of the biggest economies in Nigeria. If they can replace their large markets with massive malls, they will be able to attract massive investments and buyers from all over Africa just like Dubai. Anambra should also support Innoson in any way they can to ensure they become dominant in Africa. Auto manufacturing company alone can change the fortunes of any state. Bayelsa is a state that has continued to perform far below acceptable standards. With all that money and small population, they have no reason to be the way they are. How much does it cost to build a refinery and petrochemical plant? States like Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Delta should have built refineries and privatize them. Southern Nigeria has the most corrupt, foolish and selfish leaders ever. Look at how they're running NDDC. Northerners purposely bastardized INEC and the judicial system in order to make Southern politicians loyal to them. Had it been Southern politicians are answerable to the people whereby our votes is what determines who wins elections, these guys wouldn't be behaving like this. In a country with different ideologies and worldview, the best form of governance would have been to allow semi autonomy so that everyone could grow at their own pace. Had it been that the billions of dollars being wasted on Boko Haram is coming from that area, it would have ended a long time ago. |

Hunchogee: men Abuja per capital big oooo...8k dollars ..wow people get money there sha Don't see it that way. Remember that what is being stated here is the average, so while Abuja has lots of billionaires who live there, their own bloated figures will rub off on the city thus giving a wrong impression. Those living in Maitama and a few other highbrow areas of the city and the real estate infrastructures there may be responsible for 90% of Abuja figures, even though they may constitute only 10% of total population/area. In essence, it doesn't mean that most people in Abuja are rich. |

Ilaumoh: My brother me myself was shocked ... let me tell you how I knew..I was discussing with my neighbour who works in CBN branch here in Uyo when I was saying Akwa ibom need to continue growing thier GDP & PPP via industrialisation so to top in south south interms of GDP and PPP i even ignorantly told him that Rivers state was the highest ...and he started laughing at me and then gave me this shocker.. Saying river state is a shadow of itself now that Akwa Ibom according to central Bank is presently the biggest GDP and second highest PPP in not only south south but south east since 2017....and when he now shared this document with me I was so surprised and amazed....
So From now henceforth all those insult will end ...so Akwa Ibom is the biggest economy in Eastern Nigeria third in Nigeria... wow
Lalastclala please front page Akwa Ibom is growing at a faster pace than Rivers so it will ultimately over take them. I will like to see where Imo state is on the table. States to watch in the future is Akwa Ibom, Imo, Anambra and Ogun, as well as FCT. |
