Politics › Re: Mark To Northern Leaders: Boko Haram May Break Nigeria by publisher(m): 3:42pm On Jun 26, 2012
Hate the way some Nairalanders always call for the division of Nigeria whenever Boko HaraM issue surfaces. If the North divides from the South what happens to the indigenous Christians of Southern Kaduna, Southern Gombe,Southern Borno,50% of Adamawa,70% of Taraba, 85% of Plateau,39% of Niger state,30% of Kwara,95% of Benue,45% of Nassarawa,30% of Kogi; these are indigenous Christian Northerners,do we expected them to leave their ancestral homes and begin to relocate to Southern Nigeria?
we no get choice o,Nigeria must defeat Boko Haram,by hook or crook! That's the bitter truth.
Politics › Re: GEJ Is A Joke & Clueless - Ghanaian Prof. Ayittey by publisher(m): 10:45am On Jun 26, 2012
The only reason why i love Ghanaians is their ability to hide all their nation's flaws and portray their good sides only. For weeks now, northern Ghana has been boiling, ethnic tensions and threats of genocide among the different tribes have received political attention. Personally,i think the people at Sahara reporters have twisted this Ghanaian professor's remarks and turned it up side down.
Over 70% of Nigerians were impressed with GEJ's media chat and his haters had to fight back.
If truly the Ghanaian professor said this, then his views have more to do with some 'vendetta' against Nigeria and Nigerians, not necessarily the person of GEJ.
Go to Ghanaweb and see the insults and problems facing President Attah Mills. Ghana is facing major, major challenges too.

Another observation is that most Yorubas i've met who freely reside in regions outside the Southwest are either from Ogbomosho or Ijebu,i could be wrong though

Politics › We Are All Terrorists by publisher(op): 10:43am On Jun 18, 2012
Boko Haram, whose original name is Jama'atu Ahli...whatever, has become Nigeria’s bloody albatross. Every Sunday most Nigerian Christians home and abroad go to morning church service, with one thing at the back of their minds, “where’s the next bomb blast taking place, oh God help us.” Sure enough the bomb blast most times does occur, the news spreads like wildfire and gory pictures of dismembered and burnt human remains begin to spread on various news and social networking sites. Thus as it stands, Boko Haram commits the ‘act’ and allows fellow Nigerians help in spreading the terror message to all. Other global terrorist organisations ‘painstakingly' record and distribute detailed gory images of their activities in order to scare governments and citizens into submission; in Nigeria, the citizens do it for them.

On the 9th of September 11, 2001 the world trade centre was hit and well over three thousand (3,000)Americans lost their lives; but can anyone claim to have seen corpses of any of the victims? No. The American government banned the media from ground zero, and ensured that gory pictures of her victims’ corpses were never released to the media.

There’s an age long war strategy which says, “Never let your enemies see you bleed.” But in Nigeria, whenever the enemy (boko haram) strikes, we don’t only let our enemies see us bleed, we bathe in our own blood, curse our leaders and open up our A$$ holes for Boko haram to keep sodomizing every other Sunday.

Here are my thoughts. The PDP has never been favorably disposed to immortalizing MKO Abiola, though the SW opposition has always demanded for it. But now,FG has gone ahead to rename UNILAG after MKO, knowing fully well that the opposition, ACN and co will protest against it. I 'think' government will still end up reversing this decision after which they will sit back and see who will ever mention the 'immortalization of MKO Abiola' again.

The only unfortunate truth here is that MKO's status as a national hero is still debatable amongst other Nigerian regions outside the SouthWest, thus the naming of a major national monument in Abuja after him may never fly.

Politics › Re: Boko Haram Member Augustine Effiong Confesses To Partaking In BUK Attack by publisher(m): 1:28pm On May 22, 2012
The only reason why i partially buy into this Effiong story is cos of the recent nature of Boko Haram attacks in Northern Nigeria. The average northern muslim has no qualms with burning churches and killing southerners...but to kill fellow Northern muslims? Only a Southerner or non-Nigerian will happily carry out such a task.
I also believe that the apparent sophistication of BH activities surely has the input of retired military men and educated southern convert foot soldiers.
I also believe that most of the mugus used as suicide bombers are Hausas sha.

ps: this may also be a strategy by government to convince the local Northern supporters of Boko haram that this group is also filled with 'evil' southerners. This may encourage more muslim northerners to go against Boko Haram.

Like I said earlier, Nigeria is not ready for walmart.. When can talk about walmart when the standard of living improves - when 'Mama Iyabo' can feed her daughter three times a day, without having to sell tomatoes...
Come on dude, who says Walmart may not end up employing the likes of 'Mama Iyabo'?
How do u improve the lives of poor people without investments? Or u expect government to knock on poor people's doors every morning and give them food?
Even if 60%-70% of Nigerians live below poverty line, the other 30%-40% who are 'managing' also deserve to be catered for,in terms of their peculiar economic or luxury needs. 30%-40% of Nigeria is about 50-60 million people- that's a very huge market.
Upgrade ur thinking mate!
Business › Re: Walmart Nigeria: Good Or Bad Idea? (Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) by publisher(m): 11:41am On May 22, 2012
Walmart's entry is good,so long as the government ensures that a minimum of 40% of their products is sourced from Nigeria. It can work; years back Nigerian govt banned importation of poulty, meat products etc. I call tell u for a fact that most poultry and beef products sold in the likes of shoprite, sparz, goodies and park&shop are locally sourced. KFC is also expanding and all their poultry is locally sourced.
So,let them come,Nigeria's organised retail sector is still underdeveloped with limited players. Our Nigerian business men have not yet realized the huge benefits of investing in large retail supermarkets. Shoprite has roughly 4 outlets in Nigeria, but they have over 1000 outlets in SA. But now Shoprite is making plans to open 400 outlets in Nigeria within the next 5yrs. If our own local business men and women decide to keep doing siddon look while Shoprite and Walmart capture Nigeria's retail space,so be it.
Like someone said earlier,God bless the likes of Ben Bruce, who brought cinemas back to life...while some of his colleagues were busy mass importing vcds and dvds.

1. Nigeria will never break up.
2. Buhari will never become President.
3. GEJ will run for second term and still WIN.
4. The Boko haram strategy backfired and helped solidify the division btw core North and Christian middle-belt.
5. 35 to 40% of the geographical North are Christians and they still love GEJ.
6. Most war mongers on Nairaland are frusrated human beings; Jamb failures, UK street sweepers or Illegal immigrants in Malaysia.
7. Most intelligent, successful, young Nigerian turks are firmly behind a united Nigeria.

There will always be one Nigeria...in fact,i see Nigeria annexing Benin republic,Togo and even Ghana once we get our acts right. LOL
Nigeria is an evolving great nation; all our ethnic and religious groups are voicing out their grieveiances and compromises will continue being made until we reach an agreement. Nation building is a continous excercise. We are very lucky that our diverse peoples openly voice out their frustrations.
Mali, in the recent past was hailed as a stable west African democracy, today its divided.
The Ghana that we all like to praise is today facing serious hidden ethnic tensions between the Gas,Ewes,Ashantis and co who feel that the Akans are dominating power. But the Ghanaians try(very hard) to suppress these tensions so as not to be seen as 'another Nigeria'. Unfortunately,it's the subtle ethnic tensions that cause the most damage when it finally blows up.
I'll stand by one Nigeria,anyday...the opportunites are just too enormous. Only failures will wish for Nigeria's demise. Even the so-called biafrans who come here to talk trash are mainly unsuccessful hungry Igbos(home and abroad). The true business savvy Igbo people who own investments all over Nigeria will never mention Biafra. Even Ojukwu believed in one (federal or confederal) Nigeria till his death.

Naija for life.

Politics › Re: Atiku To Jonathan: Stop Pretending On 2015 by publisher(m): 2:26pm On May 13, 2012
Gbawe: A very simplistic argument pandering to sentiments and not logic. If, ultimately, employers and employees cannot see eye to eye then a parting of ways is inevitable. Get that into your head. If the Doctors say lagos is not giving them what they want, then they have the option of seeking what they want elsewhere while Lagos , as their employer, reserves the right to sack them and bring in Doctors happy to work under terms others have rejected as "unnaceptable". Simple.

Whatever the merits of both sides, there will be a point, considering the sector involved, when an employer will simply put an end to the impasse by sacking employees, as is legally allowed, when the relationship has broken down irrevocably.
Oh boy, listen to urself...so it's like that now?
If the PDP federal govt(employer) had told the world that it was unable to pay 18k minimum wage and workers went on strike. You would have supported FG if they sacked striking workers and recruited fresh hands comfortable with earning less than 18k minimum wage, right?
Guy,u r indeed a world class hypocrite. The demands of the sacked doctors could have easily been met with half of the funds used to celebrate Tinubu's 60th birthday bash.
You ACN folks are only good at hypnotising ur followers making them focus solely on PDP'S flaws, while (ACN) milks its own supporters dry right in front of their very own eyes...and still blame GEJ for it.

Anti GEJ elements & co,
The only time zoning was ever adhered to strictly was during 1999 elections where the entire nation practically stepped back and allowed the South-West to go for the presidency. After 1999,every other presidential elections had candidates from across the country.
Zoning was just a temporary platform used to apologize to the 'South' for denying MKO Abiola his mandate.
Mind u,MKO Abiola won the June 12 elections even when there was no talk about zoning. This should tell core northerners that in a free and fair election, even in today's Nigeria, the best candidate will always win regardless of ethnicity...of course the political party has a huge role to play.

@Gbawe and other anti GEJ elements, una never tire?

Off topic: why havent any of u guys condemed ACN for sacking over 700 striking doctors in Lagos? If a PDP govt pulled same stunt, the likes of Gbawe would have used his big English to dissect and condem PDP,accusing them of 'retrogression and retardation'.

BUT....

why alwayz Lagos?

Many states are lagging whilst Lagos keeps logging on to structural advancements. a few others simply struggle to advance at millipede speed. shame.

I bet the influx of migrants from other states into Lagos is not stopping anytime soon. it's high time Lagos started looking beyond mega-city to super 'mega-maga city' because this is just the beginning population explosion !

equtable social development is needed.
Have u been to UYO? OWERRI? ENUGU? These cities are making genuine efforts at modernizing. Forget the Northern cities cos i dont see any development there until Boko Haram issue is solved. JOS is still beautiful though. My anger is at other South western cities (i dont attribute Lagos' development to the South western region) that have refused to develop beyond where Obafemi Awolowo left them; even Ibadan with its prospect has just refused to modernize in spite of its head start in the Dugbe area. As for Osogbo,Ogbomosho,Abeokuta,Ado-Ekiti, Akure,Ile-Ife...there's no hope. Brown rusted rooftops everywhere.
Politics › Re: Boko Haram To Bomb Lagos And Abuja In 72 Hours Unless: (Called AIT Editor) by publisher(m): 10:59am On May 05, 2012
The other day,a thread was opened on Nairaland for people to proffer concrete solutions on how to solve Boko Haram Crisis if they were in position.
Most of the Bas.tards insulting GEJ right now had absolutely nothing to say.
Obviously, the Northern sponsors of Boko Haram are trying to negotiate a safe landing, dont be surprised if a cease fire is announced next week.
The cattle incident in Yola also made Boko Haram's leadership realize that most of its armed members are plain blood thirsty and can kill anyone in sight without orders from the top ,Christian or Muslim. It would have been only a matter of time before some armed BH members turned against each other for supremacy and financial issues.

The threat to bomb Lagos is just a ploy to pressurize GEJ to dialogue with them. Any one can bomb Lagos or any part of Nigeria but for Boko Haram, virtually the whole of Lagos and southern Nigeria are hostile territory with enlightened people. A determined sole suicide bomber can cause damage in any part of the WORLD,but i dont see a coordinated attack like the type we see in the North.
Hausas in Lagos have a way of knowing themselves and if strangers appear in their mist, they'll raise alarm. Also Yorubas are lucky cos they have Kwarans who can most times pass for Hausa's and serve as spies.
Boko Haram knows that GEJ will never agree to meet them on their own terms. My own interpretation of Boko Haram's AIT message (if its genuine) is." Mr president,we are willing to negotiate a ceasefire and we are giving u 72hours to respond to our offer before we change our mind".

America. . .

Hmmmmmm. . . . . . .

We are not America. America always knew where the base of the Taliban was from before the bombing. They already had suspected terrorists on a watchlist long before 9/11. America was a functioning society long before 9/11. Thats why it was easy to pinpoint and strike back that fast. Plus they were only successful because they were fighting on foreign soil and didnt give a fhuck wh they shot dead. Had Afghanistan been a US state like Philadelphia, they wouldnt go in like that. . .
Nigeria has no intelligence agencies. . Both SSS and DMI are only good for presidential bodyguard detail (that one sef I doubt, because nobody don attack Jona before so we no fit know). Boko Haram are resident on Nigerian soil so we cant attack the North Afghani style!!

Politics › Re: How Would You Solve The Boko Haram Crisis? by publisher(m): 1:50pm On May 03, 2012
Step 1: 100% Media black out on all Boko Haram activities:
As it stands, Boko Haram has won the psychological warfare by instilling fear amongst Nigerians. Boko Haram has used the media to issue threats, spread the details of their successful activities and promise more attacks. As commander in chief,i will bann the name 'Boko haram' from being mentioned in any media house print or electronic. I will use huge resources to bombard the media houses with AD messages bothering on the peaceful nature of Islam,Security tips,How to identify terrorists,SOS numbers and other anti terrorists routines. If and when Boko Haram strikes,i'll use all state security apparatus to keep the incident confidential: this may seem 'wrong' but sometimes that which u dont know cannot kill u or instill fear. Like China,i will restrict the activities and access of foreign news organisation as it concerns Boko Haram.

Step 2: Increase the size of the Nigerian army:
If Boko haram is busy recruiting foot soldiers,Nigerian army must also be seen to be swelling its ranks. This Boko Haram issue may end up being a long drawn war that will involve other west African nations starting with Mali,Niger,Chad and even Northern Ghana. As commander in chief, just like the Americans did after 9/11,i will mobilize young Nigerians into the army for a short service contract programme which will see them serve in Northern nigeria over a period of time. We need an armed forces that can cover every nook and cranny of Boko Haram's strong locations within Nigeria's territory. It's also possible that Nigerian troops be ready to strike border towns inside the territories of neighbouring countries seen to be harbouring Boko Haram elements.
As Commander in Chief,i'll also place an immediate procurement order of Drones.

Step 3:Federalism:
As President,i will reduce the powers of the centre in areas of revenue allocation ,infrastructure and other economic developmental functions;the states will now handle such. BUT i'll increase the power of the center a hundred folds in the areas of national security. My government will wield emergency powers to arrest and detain 'indefinitely' any individual or group of individuals that pose a security threat to the Nigerian nation.

Step 4: Marshal Plan in Northern Nigeria:
Every unemployed/illiterate youth in Northern Nigeria will be viewed as a security threat. My government in conjunction with affected state governments will establish or revive large scale fortified industries and mega farms were unemployed, uneducated Northern youth will be FORCEFULLY made to work and earn a living. Almajiri schools and moderate Islamic centres will be provided within the premises of these establishments to take care of the inmates educational and religious needs.

Step 5:
I'll run for a second term in 2015 grin

Whether these allegations are true or not,Okah will most likely stay in jail till GEJ leaves office.
After which Okah can go write a book or something!!!!
Certainly,Boko haram,MEND and co are part and parcel of blood politics at its highest order. GEJ is a politician, and maybe truly Boko Haram was created to destroy the prospects of any northern muslim ever winning elections in Nigeria;Afterall ,the South and the mainly Christian middlebelt constitute a clear majority in electoral outings. Thus since 1999 whenever a Christian Southerner is pitched against a Muslim Northerener, the Christian Southerner always wins (Obj-2003,GEJ-2011)
Boko Haram could also be a reaction by muslim Northern politicians to blackmail the South and Christian middle belt into backing out of 2015, grin

Very complex politics if u ask me.
Politics › Only The Media Can Defeat Boko Haram by publisher(op): 2:05am On May 02, 2012
From the look of things and with the renewed threats to media houses by Boko Haram,it does seem that the group is more scared of the media than it is of JTF,why? The reason is simple,a propagation of negativity about the sects activities makes it more difficult for them to recruit new members. Especially with the fact that most of the threatened media houses are also in the forefront of educating the Northern masses that their own leaders are using Boko Haram for political gains and not religious. Boko Haram needs to protect its image as a Jihadist group and not a tool by some Northern politicians to embarrass the government of the day. Cos the 'Jihad' is the only thing that attracts voluntary suicide bombers.
Now it's up to the media to continue the battle by constantly exposing Boko Haram for what it is,and letting families of suicide bombers know that their sons have died for nothing...or for greedy Politicians.
Government should immediately take advantage of foreign radio stations like VOA hausa,BBC hausa and the likes to post paid ads calling on the people to dump boko Haram. Government must also begin to print flyers in Hausa and kanuri dialects informing the people of Islam's peaceful nature with relevant quotes from the koran. Such flyers can be air dropped.

Once we can get potential foot soldiers to turn against Boko Haram, the battle will be half won. The JTF can do the rest,
Some Wars cannot be won solely in the battle field.
