Timmi: @ Easimony
I think UBA went to the market around he same time as Oceanic and their share is yet to be added to the outstanding share as well. No. With UBA's PO in 2007, outstanding shares are 11.5B. Oceanic will list it's shares soon after the register closes on Monday. Oceanic will have 22.24B shares with a forward PE of around 26 as at yesterday if I factor in a growth of 50% on last year's PAT. UBA has a forward PE of 20 as at yesterday. There will be a chance to buy Oceanic at prices lower than it is today when PO profit takers hit the market so for now I will put my money in UBA. I sold My Oceanic on Wednesday. |

ngegy: My small research tells me that the registrars do accomodate the 3 days settlement period, meaning that you can buy a stock and still be qualified for the dividend a day before the closure day.

I stand corrected This was also debated earlier this week. Before we get carried away, there are many folks on this thread that have given us very accurate predictions using varying theories and strategies. For me, the idea is in blending the different styles with your own and churning out the profits. No single strategy is foolproof. Fundamentals still work big time. I gave a list of 5 stocks on December 26th based on fundamentals. In 6 trading days, the stocks have appreciated 32% (AGLeventis), 26%(BetaGlass), 19%(Lawunion), 32%(Unic) and 3% (UBA). How much better does it get in less than 2 weeks? |

ngegy: @pumping I just received an email update from meristem stating that the closure for Oceanic dividend is on 7th jan, that is next monday. I posted the same information earlier this week. You have to understand that it takes 3 trading days for your name to appear on the register. If you bought your Oceanic yesterday, your name gets on the register on January 8th so you don't qualify for the bonus. Take note of this important fact because the same applies to bonus. |

invisible!: @ pumping, ololufemi, which one be spredsheet money again? I heard this exact phrase first from fatherof2 though it is recognized in many different ways. It is the appreciation on the stock you have not sold. Until you sell you get nothing. If the price falls, you lose all these "paper" profit. Real profit comes when you sell and get your cash. |

harrisoft: @Fatherof2 Thanks for your respon the whole thing is getting clearer, Please can you put more light on 5(a) and 5(b), thank you.
@ all, i have been copying all fatherof2 (trader) post since the day he showed up on this tread, print them and reading them, inb/w the lines there is always something, you don't get it if you are not looking for it,
same for wanaj0, (investor) his is a diffrent ball game , if you read his comment , you can't go wrong,
I once say Wanaj0 is father & fatherof2 is mother on this tread,
factor two of their post together you make good money ,
I had this N500k in October 2007, wanajo advice me to buy cursader put it the money became N650 (by Nov 2007) in less than a month, put it into oceanic (fatherof2 theory) and it became N850. (Dec 2007) now the money is in, too small to mention till it click, TO MANY BIG BOYS AROUND,
BUTTOM LINE: IF YOU ARE NOT A GURU OR NOT USED TO OBV, RSI,PE RATION, DPS, ETC, CHATING, MACD, SMA, EMA, OBJ, EFCC, READ INB/W THE LINE WHEN WANAJ0 & FATHEROF2 SPEAKS FACTOR IN COMMON SENCE , YOU MAKE MONEY SIMPLE.
FINALLY, @ SEUN do you read ever page of this tread, i will be happy if you respond. Haba. Even after you have put the money in a particular stock, you still don't want to say?? I believe that if the theory fails this time, you will not say a word. Talking about your profit after the fact is easy. The real task is predicting it. If you keep your choice to yourself until you make profit, then how are you contributing to the thread? If Wanaj0 and Fatherof2 only talk of their choices after they have cashed to the bank, what is there for others to benefit No mind my strong tone. I just want make you divulge this new "Diamond" stock you just put the money in |

hbrednic: i serously doubt PHB going up after the TS,considering the hudge discount(35%) on the ipo. most investors of the bank must have bought heavy on the public, so will be offloading in the secondry market to recoup their cash. I don't agree with this theory. Existing investors try to offload during TS to buy the PO. Investors don't even know how much of the new PO shares they will get and when. If the banking stock prices remain at current levels when TS is lifted, expected a northward move. |

ololufemi: @ ENURAYCE,
You wan make Oceanic reach N50. its was obvious that profit takers would set in.
Fatherof2 has told us this a lot of times.
Imagine someone who bought at 28/29 in early December and decided to sell at N39+ yesterday.
That is a cool 40%.
Putting in N1 million gives you N400,000 profit staight within about a month.
Besides the closure date is near. Watch what will happen after the closure date. The real closure date for Oceanic was last Monday. If you buy from yesterday, you don't qualify for the dividends. Institutional investors will know this and avoid the stock. It was broken down earlier on the forum but I suspect you only read one poster's comments Just kidding. |

ololufemi: @ Fatherof2,
Yes baba.
Just curious
The market seems to be on a hot run. Is this due to PFA funds being pumped in .
This market beats my imagination/expectation though I am loving it.
I know you have the keys to the clue.
Baba remember when Wapco was criticised about its result. I hope sey people don see.
Thats the wonder of the Nigerian Market.
Thanks a lot. Indeed grateful Somehow I expect the profit takers to knock some sense into the market real soon. Nothing beats the greed of an investor when there is room for profit taking. I dropped off the Wapco train today. I am happy enough. For me, this is a very beautiful period to offload all those good stocks from late December. Almost all have passed the 30% mark now in less than 2 weeks. Unic has done 75% since Novemver and BetaGlass has done 65%. I don't intend to stay so long in these trains until they make a u-turn back to the depature point though I don't expect any one to return to pre November prices |

You na do well oh, with the Aptistock tool. God Bless you,
I have data back to April 2007, i have formatted it for direct upload to Aptistock, see Megaupload link below.

PS: I named the file NNSE, i do not want to confuse myself with the India NSE, anyway, you can always change the filename.

I needed to format the volume column to "general" otherwise any volume data with commas is not populated. But I beg, how una dey merge all this data into one worksheet?? Gudchoice: @ Man Jiro - thanks for the heads up on the torrent download. Will be trying Metastock.
@ all - tried uploading the NSE.cvs file into Apistock , but I keep getting an error message;
This starts from 12560 - 14015 as you can see below.
Data error in line 14014 of file F:\Documents and Settings\Bleep\My Documents\NSE.csv. Data error in line 14015 of file F:\Documents and Settings\Bleep\My Documents\NSE.csv. This could just be because of some loose data listed in these rows. It means you have the data imported all the way to row 12559. The original file has valid data only up till row 12507 so you should be okay. Check in Apistock that you have the data. Be concerned only if you get errors from the beginning of the file. |

bigjay01: try following the steps i suggested earlier, you shouldnt need to save csv files individually, the program does it for you. Also when you update the NSE.csv file. You can add more data to NSE.csv (say before 01/08/07 or after 21/12/07, or even add new securities with new dates) the program will do a update the individual csv files or create a new one if a new security data was added to NSE.csv. Pokerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr How do you get all the data in one csv file? I end up with a single file for each security after uploading the NSE.csv file into Aptistock. Also, how do you convert the single NSE.csv file with multiple securities into metastock format |
Investment › Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 9:54pm On Jan 02, 2008 |
bigjay01: which OS are using? XP/Vista?. if you are using XP, then you shouldnt have any problem. If you are using my NSE.csv,
1. Tools 2. Data downloader 3. Import 4. File Select > Browser ( to NSE.csv) 5. Other Market > NSE 6. Import
To tag the security description, repeat steps 1 - 2 3. Edit Sym List 4. Import > locate file 'description' (posted earlier).
One other thing I did is to remove all other stock markets, repeat steps 1 - 2 3. Market Edit 4. Select a preexisting market 5. I added NSE and deleted all other markets (click one it gets highlighted, select and delete)
Woheeee , bob is your uncle Funny when I try to update the symbols list, Aptistock crashes on me. koksieboy: I've tried to use the metastock converter to load the NSE data too unsuccessfully. The only thing that worked was to save each individual securities in the NSe.zip file as a different CSV file and upload into metastock individually. I'm currently playing around with Metastock Converter v1.3 to convert the NSE data into metastock format. Ok. One at a time is working for me now but I can't proceed this way. |

I use the Metastock application because of its Expert advisor feature that interprete the charts automatically, is there a way to import the formatted data into Metastock?
Rgds I'm also trying to load the data into metastock but no luck yet. I need just one thing. A valid excel or CSV format that will work for the conversion. It is not accepting the CSV files. Does anyone know the standard ASCII Metastock format that metastock will accept to convert to metastock format?? |

windywendy: Ok thanks! I see your point. For one to tie money down that long, the deal has to be thoroughly spick-and-span, if you get what I mean , which is why I closely scrutinized the doc. Not too impressive at all for me.
BGL is your broker? Do they have facilities to view one's account online? How do you get daily updates on your trades? Also, how fast are they with execution? I'm thinking of having a second broker and am seriously considering BGL. Plan to speak with them tomorrow. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Good and bad news there. They had an excellent online facilty but it has been down for about a month now. According to my Account Officer, they are upgrading to a better software and once they are done, one will be able to do everything online. No need to contact your Account officer. I was happy with what they had before. You can immediately see if they have placed an order for you and if it has been processed successfully. This shows up same day on their website. From the website, you can navigate to your CSCS account and verify that what you are seeing on their website corresponds with what CSCS has. Most of the time, my orders are excecuted same day. I just send an email to my Relationship Officer. By the time I check my CSCS account by end of the day, I can see that most of my trades have been executed. I'm eagerly waiting for them to go online again. The main draw back right now is that I have to request my Naira statements manually to know my cash position. One very good thing is that they always seem to buy close to the low price of the day and sell close to the high price of the day. A very good thing for me. |

windywendy: WOW! A very happy and prosperous new year to you all! I had a lot of fun during this xmas and holiday season now I have to repent and hit the gym . . .
@Pumping: I got to look at the BGL prospectus and wasn't too impressed. Future plans seem good but the question on my mind was: is it the same folks that have been running the business that will be generating the returns they're projecting? Because going by the historical returns, they've not been doing that great of a job, even during the 2005/2006 bull years. I know they're aggressively recruiting, but I'm not seeing much of that happening at the top decision-making levels. There were also other issues I had problems with, especially with the private equity biz they're planning. Going by how long it takes to open and close a fund, I'm guessing that at least 3months would have elapsed before they close their first fund. How much of the fees will be included in 2008's result -- assuming they earn any at all, since the bulk of it would be performance based and it would be difficult to get any meaningful performance in a period as short as 12months or less? Looks like those assumptions are really AGGRESSIVE. Please holla and let me know your thoughts. I eventually let it pass. My main concern is the time table for listing on the NSE. The plan to list in 24 months is too long away for me. For all we know it could take up to 3-4 years. Locking in 7M for 3 years or even longer does not gel with me. This is my main concern. They are my brokers and it's been a very good relationship so far. |

barge: don't have much info except this below which i got from Bizday :
The firm is the leading producer of livestock feeds in Nigeria.
Plans to reopen Kaduna mill to boost production capacity and improve market share and accesssibility.
Plans to icrease production from the present average of 4.5 metric tonnes per hour@ three key operating mills.
Apparently the firm is expanding but i don't have projections as to when the expansion will impact the Topline and bottom line. I will not recommend Livestock feeds for now long term. It is a great cycling stock so if this is the plan, go on ahead. Buy close to N3.20 and sell close to N3.80. Otherwise, all the points listed above were circulating for the company since over a year ago but nothing has been delivered. The recent performance of the company has been poor and I cannot see any indication of an immediate turnaround. Exceptional items are being used to boost PAT and even with that the performance is poor. I know there are plans for expansion but joining now will be just a guessing game. This is a recent announcement about Livestock. "A total of 630,519,000 shares were added to the shares outstanding in the name of Livestock Feeds Plc on Thursday, November 22, 2007 following the Placing with three Investors." The company now has about 1.2B outstanding shares with a forward PE of around 95. Very high for an industry average of around 25. |
