ecolime:Bumper sticker of the Year 2023. Nigerians should paste this over all those hollow motivational quips. |
No wonder sharks in Australian waters are getting deadlier every year.... probably chomping on some drifting blow.... ![]() |
Reformation is never a cake walk. I expect any serious government trying to control cash in circulation to do exactly this. For how can you be practicing a cashless policy yet have almost 80 percent of currency outside the banking system. That is untracked money, that is an economy within an economy. No government will accept that. However the fact is that as long as institutions remain weak particularly those of the criminal justice system, shock therapy remains the only tool of government. For there are all sorts of laws that are serially broken for that amount of cash to have leached out of the central bank in the first place and the fears are real that if our laws can or will not be enforced wen the new currency will sooner or later find us way back to private 'central banks'. Whatever we suffer today is of our collective making. Nigerians are by and large not ready or able to organize ourselves into a viable, progressive society. Personally this is one incident that has affected me, perhaps not as much as others, but I cannot bring myself to complain about it because I know it is all a product of bad citizenship of which I am a Nigerian, just as I cannot complain about pesky police check points when I know my fellow citizens will exploit their absence to commit all manner of crimes if which I may become a victim. Fellow citizens, if we don't restructure Nigeria we will suffer until our time on earth is over. My two cents. |
Buddha3:Very true. They have always been a pluralistic society. Not everyone of them aspires to college education. But those that do are often exceptional. And not just paper for paper sake. |
id911:Educated and yet starving. Educated and yet crying at a dictators funeral....what nonsense education is that. Education that cannot guarantee your liberty, secure your dreams and make the sky your limit is a millstone around your neck. |
I carry my sickness go doctor, na so, so blame doctor dey blame me, say I dey live rough life. I carry my motor go mechanic, na so, so blame mechanic dey blame me, say I too like pothole. So make I just dey waka without moto, without shoe, without cloth, dey find agbo up and down to drink..... no be madness wan catch me so.... ![]() |
Not interested in anything police until Nigeria does the needful and decentralizes it. In the 21st century the word Nigeria police is a complete misnomer for an organisation in an industry that is so specialised and the needs so diverse, one single entity and one single command structure cannot possibly effectively handle it. If other critical sectors are to serve the nation in such manner then all the doctors in Nigeria should probably answer to the Minister of Health, all engineers should answer to the Minister of Works, all teachers should be led by the Minister of Education and all taxi drivers should report to the Minister if Transport. That is how ineffectual our internal security architecture is rendered. Whereas in other climes security is a deep, diverse industry with public/private collaborations to fully exploit both public and private sector resources for the good of all. Not a 'we against them' colonial era public suppression, government baton. For the authorities may own the military but in most developed climes it is the citizens that own the police. |
jimcaddy:Sometimes tragedy has a way of fixating the mind to what is important in life and mass tragedy often welds society to common causes everywhere in the world.... tragically except in Africa. Perhaps that's why God has spared us from the worst nature has to offer. Africa had not a single natural displeasure. We have deserts and rainforests in equal measure. Our seasons are stable and largely predictable. No geo fault lines except close to Madagascar (I think) and all the highland volcanoes are by and large dormant. Everything we suffer is entirely human. Just spare a thought for Japan. Tiny, tiny island entirely surrounded by tectonic faults. Practically no natural earth resources despite harbouring dozens of volcanoes, constantly ravaged by earth quakes and living under threat of tsunamis every year and yet highly developed with almost zero crime rate despite suffering two atomic bombings at war (the only country in history)..... and giving my Africa huge amounts of development aid every year.... This world is just not fair. |
Strange though but earthquakes are good scientific signs that the planet is alive and that the solid iron core remains in motion, just as one is relieved to see a soundly sleeping person suddenly changing posture. Lots of sympathy for the victims and to all those who live along or in proximity to geo fault lines and have suffered so much devastation over the centuries. However the day such events come to an end, know that the planet called earth is dead. |
Must be, because the real thing goes for over $160,000. And we all know that at $7,000.. if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Lots of mistakes made in this matter. They should have registered on the national organ donor list and made their requests public. A man of his status could have pushed his way to the top of such list with the help of his fellow compatriots. |
Obakoolex:This is the 1 million naira question Nigeria or any back community faces. How to 'mature up'. The question we all should be asking ourselves is, how did other societies get to the point where democracy mattered to their progress and development. Because it appear we here are readily excusing our failings and hoping someone else will make the sacrifices to make this country great while we feed our sentiment. My dear. If we cannot build institutions which include great political parties but insist on continuing in error which in this case is chasing after individuals, aka voting persons not parties, this country cannot be free of regression and suffering. When you as an APC supporter gets to the point that Mr. Tinubu may be a great leader but the institution he is part of has failed and so he has lost a great opportunity of leadership. When you get to the point as a LP supporter that though Obi may be a great candidate but his party cannot possibly lead Nigeria successfully because it has not a single Legislative support and so he is likely to be a lame duck leader which Nigeria does not need now. Same with Kwakwanso. When you get to the point as a PDP supporter that though Atiku may be a great leader but the party failed in opposition so badly and is so fragmented now that it poses a monumental risk in a DEMOCRATIC government. Then and only then will we all sit down and think out our choices, plan our strategies and really go after empowering ourselves as a people to take charge because whatever choice we make in a few weeks we are far from a situation where we can just vote and go to sleep. There is no good choice before us. |
Obakoolex:Those are people that are totally ignorant. Democracy is all about political parties. Anyone who subscribed to voting the 'individual' whether for it against government is only subscribing to autocracy or dictatorship. If you vote Tinubu or Atiku or Obi or Kwakwanso and ignore the vehicle or platform on which they stand how do you control them after they are sworn in. This is where Nigerians miss it and this is why cross carpeting and other ills of our democracy manifest. Political parties are the first line of checks and balances of elected officials. They are the crucible of ideals, plans and programs. Such that those that immediately surround a leader guide him in the path of good governance even before the citizens realize he is straying. Britain has not had a general elections in a while but has changed leadership three times just because the leaders strayed from the party's ideals, the party removed them TO REMAIN RELEVANT AND IN POWER. Let us wake up and get informed. To elect a leader based on 'hope' alone or because he or she has a heavenly CV of glorious past performances is not democracy. This you should consider your heart before voting. CAN THE PERSON WHO I AM VOTING FOR BE CORRECTED OR CONTROLLED BY THE PARTY OR BY THE CITIZENS. Can he or she be removed if he or she messes up midway in the journey of democracy. If not please put your PVC in a dustbin. It is not worth it. |
What more can I say. I have been speaking up on this matter for a while now, in summary. That if the PDP lost in 2015 due to poor governance. All indices of life and living clearly indicates that we are due for another change of government. We just cannot afford to continue with this one. Except we are either not practicing democracy or Nigerians did not remove the PDP for performance issues in 2015. We must start to establish values and tailor our democracy around performance and not just sentiment. We must begin to punish bad governance with votes of non return If not we will just be electing leaders who are not committed and political parties that will not hold their members accountable. In order words without an ideology democracy is meaningless and the nation will not progress in any way, shape or form. PS. In an ideal situation if the ruling APC had known that Mr. Buhari's government will cost it future electoral victory then it will have built internal mechanisms to check his activities and focus his mission around the party's manifesto and not his personal agenda alone. Thus the people by the electoral choices are either establishing both intra party and inter party democracy or consolidating autocracy. |
Naira losing value against Naira. Discovery Channel should investigate the depth of despair this government has plunged Nigeria into. A government that has bungled every act of governance known to mankind. Nothing it has successfully undertaken, absolutely nothing. |
kingsways:By now oh calculative citizen, and just days to the elections the discourse and debates should be around and about which of their programs, intents and plans will better you 'the common man' by August, October, December this year and by 2024, 25, 26 and 27. At this late hour if this is all we can 'order for at the diner of democracy' what are we expected to be served when 'whoever' gets elected. We as citizens cannot be this rudimentary and expect our leaders to be dexterous. As you are 'what you eat', so your democratic experiences will be about how you think and act. Let us up our game please. |
Oh well.... that's one way Nigeria has gone..... ![]() |
Angelfrost:You've spent too long around Pinnick.... ![]() |
Buddha3:Absolutely. This is the demystification we talked about in 2014. They said it was the 'wailing wailers' who coined that grave terminology and that Mr. Buhari was King-Kong. Today they are all filled with humble pie with the boot on the other foot. |
Cj4charles:There was a popular photo of him dancing vigorously while his co-travelers were applauding with glee all those years ago. Can someone find and put it up here. I guess time and tide has swept all that away. They expect all Nigerians to forget and fall into the same error. Unfortunately some are determined to do exactly that. |
Hmm.... nawa oh.... the tirade against this man is seriously getting out of hand. Though democracy will be in regression should he win the elections, but with all the angst on display I sincerely do hope you guys have a plan b if it happens. How will you guys emotionally come back from all these. Totally uncalled for. |
KlausMichaelson:Man, by and large is the product of his environment. It compels and evolves his thoughts, values and ideals. Such that time spent in any one perspective tends to story the experiences and perspectives of the individual. And I think this is exactly the case here. Before conclusions dear poster, change your 'location' and refresh your relationships and perhaps you will come to realise that the female folks are as diverse as nature itself in every way. |
Made reference to the CIA using cash on the field for operations. But he didn't say that even in the US the activities of the CIA around the world remains controversial so it isn't exactly a box of chocolates, more like a can of worms he is opening. The long and short remains, large amounts of cash moving around cannot be up to any good. You only need such volumes when you have something to hide, something to mismanage or something to negatively influence. And from all this and with the pictures I see on the net of villains with the new notes I can only surmise that out fight against criminality involves just bribing them to lay low for a season. |
One minute the campaigners are in glee, happy to associate with the incumbent government, the next minute they want to distance themselves from its failings. This is the lot of a nation that cannot evolve common values and cannot identify the path towards progress. Ordinarily it is up to the citizens to clear any doubt as to what the way out of the mess. And it is to show in no uncertain terms that when you fail in government you are voted out, simple. |
HumbleOptimist:Kai, we don't want City winning the league. This is our beloved league not the one man business called BundesLiga |
cletz991:Yeah, north London has a mental block. Like Gunners like Spurs. |
Reference:Cannot see a single Gunner playing anywhere near normal. |
Arsenal is so poor. Nkethia is completely anonymous. |
Partey and Xhaka decidedly poor so far. Taking Everton for granted will have consequences. |
But Mr. Tinubu was praising Mr. President as recently as December last year claiming he will continue the 'legacy'. So how do we square this circle. Why is the APC hellbent at confusing the electorate. Now, is Mr. Tinubu and Mr. Buhari in a tango over governance in Nigeria or not. Their fans should speak up. I did say last year that if Mr. Tinubu should seek for office he has to DISTANCE himself from this administration and effectively start playing the opposition, only then will he buy the necessary electoral currency for a reasonably successful bid because democracy 101 says that when a government performs badly it is voted out and since the principal is ineligible in this case the party takes the hit. And that nowhere in the civilised world does a party perform so badly in government and is re-elected by the people. At least we thought we made this giant leap to progress in 2015 when GEJ and his PDP were swept out due to the very kind of poor performance Mr. Tinubu's camp HAS FINALLY ADMITTED AT THE 11TH HOUR. So why should the APC be given a lifeline. Why seek to reinforce failure. Will we be institutionalizing poor governance if failure is rewarded. What incentive does a party have to hold its members accountable if everyone can conveniently extricate him or herself from bad governance though they were part of it one way or the other. If on the other hand someone of Tinubu's calibre had spoken up truthfully at the bad policies and poor governance since 2015 Nigeria will have been better off, but he kept on and on patting failure on the back and today wants the victims of such failings to emotionally support him.... Well, it is left to Nigerians to build institutions or continue chasing after individuals who will certainly fail them in the long run. Personally, I don't regard anyone of them seeking office. I don't have a PVC because I don't consider democracy to have taken off and I don't think my fellow citizens are mentally and emotionally ready to launch it in Nigeria. I have said it time and again over several election cycles and for a couple of decades now. Restructuring first and all other things will be added unto Nigeria. Buhari's tenure has not changed this truth in the slightest. |
How much exactly does Chelsea need to 'buy' a win in this league, haba. |
