160.... in those days when roads were roads.... but I still spun off after losing two tyres.... and not only walked away but drove away. These days I don't exceed 140... but just on two roads.... Shehu Yaradua Boulevard to the airport.... or Shehu Yaradua Way at the close of work... most days. |
“......One of the issues that came up after #EndSARS was the need to do a psychological evaluation of police officers, especially those who handle arms to be sure that they are mentally stable. But this did not happen. Even the recruitment procedures have been compromised....." This highlight is a question for the citizens back then who are the victims today. That the functional societies they see abroad did not just emerge from the blues but were carefully crafted by determined advocacy and is sustained by eternal vigilance. Some Nigerians complaining bitterly today were champions of the establishment when the protests raged on. And instead of seeing it through felt the government in itself had the capacity and integrity to change what it benefits from.... what folly. |
juman:So the solution is to kill the driver of any car that refuses to stop. Waow. And you will sign this off as a citizen of this country. |
Eriokanmi:That is Nigeria for you. They saw the protests as a threat to their establishment and kicked. But has the police reformed....., no. Has the unlawful killings continued or not... |
What does it take for the FRSC to buy a few more ambulances and PPP with Insurance and Healthcare providers to offer road accident emergency response. And make it mandatory for all road transporters to engage properly with the above system. |
But the same people will not support the proper political agents that will establish institutions and the rule of law. As a matter of fact when their pet leaders run roughshod over the judicial system they cheer. They cannot understand that without order a country is no more than a game reserve and they are condemned to enjoy 'wildlife'. |
That is a simple fact that the truncated Yaradua presidency threw up and the visionless so called leaders in the PDP didn't anticipate back then. That to have a smooth rotation the candidate presented for elections not only has to be physically fit and alive to complete his tenure but remains electable if not the wheel of 'rotation' collapses. The PDP mismanaged its opportunities back then, it now has to flow with the rotational schedule of its opponents which is threatening to polarise it. For if it had presented a southern candidate for 2023 it will have demoted itself into a regional party, a defacto 'southern party' with perhaps 13+8 : 3 year ratio of south v north leadership. So they are damned having presented Atiku and will have been damned if Wike won the primaries. Both scenarios will have imploded the party. Heads or tails, the party is in a quagmire. Lesson for others. Present a fit, and able candidate that will at least complete the 8 year cycle or else..... |
New007:It is not enough. When suffering is enough Nigerians know what to do. |
I still feel Nigerians have not suffered enough and will probably require a few more decades of bad governance to think straight.... if there is any country left by then. We urgently need more pain therapy of a more intense nature to change. This country will then either choose to restructure around a table or revolt around a garbage dump void of edibles. |
SyrusdeHansome:What is 'bushmeat' and why should you be eating wildlife. It is wrong and is contributing to the death of the planet. If you cultivate crops for food and not go about eating wild plants to survive you should also rear your 'meat' as well and not go about destroying wild animals. |
But that is what the majority of Nigerians intend to do.....vote for their fellow tribesmen. |
The King is dead. God save the king. What a man, what a legend. What a time to witness the greatest ever footballer. RIP. |
Obavoh:Then when your baby comes with issues you begin to run helter-skelter. Better get informed and get her proper meals with all the essentials nutrients. This penny inching has serious consequences that may last a lifetime if care is not taken. |
The groom knows the bride is coming in from a position of weakness and division and will exploit this in the future to create a home of inequality in many ways. The chances of a successful married life are essentially halved. No matter the relationship your parents have with you or themselves it should not define the beginning of yours or certain tendencies will spill over and continue in your generation. It is better to settle those divisive issues even if for the moment at the transition between your former family and the one you intend to birth. |
abbey621:No one is saying that policemen should not be armed but the use of a 'rifle' as the 'basic' weapon of choice for law enforcement is just callous and smacks of crass ignorance of ergonomics in weaponry which has resulted in terrible incidents and needless deaths in the context of defensive enforcement and offensive enforcement. To start with, the AK has an overall length close to a metre. In a battlefield situation barrel length means a more accurate weapon over long distances of which the AK has an effective killing range of 350m. Of what purpose is that in an urban setting where the bulk of policing takes place. That is why most advanced police services the world over use shorter barelled weapons that are much easier to handle giving the bearer more freedom and dexterity with his hands. And where there are no immediate armed threats they are simply armed with pistols. In defensive positions how many times have we seen policemen in VIP convoys, security details and even normal patrols struggle to get in and out of their vehicles with these 'long guns'. It is simply ridiculous. These weapons should only be made available in 'fire fights not hand held on the streets in everyday duties. They can be stored in their vans and trucks for emergencies or where absolutely necessary by an 'overwatch' officer not actively interrogating or making contact with a civilian. In other climes where there are incidents requiring extra firepower on patrol you will never see those with the deadliest weaponry such as Special Weapons & Tactics 'pressing the flesh' or mixing it up with the general populace. This is left to the 'beat cops' who are lightly armed because they know the dangers posed by what they carry. The 7.62mm round is no joke and in close quarters it will do severe, severe damage to anything pliable it hits. Accidentally or not the survival rate close up is practically zero. The government needs to re-evaluate its policing doctrine to save lives. |
robinso01:What are they doing with 'convoys'? Who let them have these things, the people. Who foots the massive bills of these 'convoys', the people. Who are the victims of these 'convoys', the people. The people have the knife and the yam, but as we have read, will rather take 'compensation', aka financial inducement, aka bread crumbs to remain silent and oppressed. Folks, people will continually experience what they tolerate, tolerate what is culturally acceptable to them and follow their culture to the degree of their intellect. 'My people perish for lack of knowledge'. This passage was written with a vision of Nigeria 2022. |
Not reading this nonsense. What useless speech is he going to make. The least he can do is to apologize to Nigeria for not heeding the endSARS message and reforming the armed services particularly the police top to bottom. Instead he and his cohorts went about persecuting those whose blood, sweat and tears should have ensured needless murders and extra judicial slayings by uniform men and women ended that year. I said it then that the truncating of the process would turn around and bite this country badly like incomplete medication to an infection and that the police will become even more callous than ever. If that policeman is not made and example, tried for murder and sentenced to death then government has abdicated it's responsibility for law and order and the citizens then have a right to step in at will. |
So how come they cannot organize themselves into a qualitative society when they are present in numbers like in their homeland. Something just doesn't add up. |
Evilstorm:A police man shot a non threatening civilian in our so called 'disciplined' culture over the weekend. What school again did the policeman attend and how come in the 'indisciplined' United Kingdom these kinds of acts are not 'cultural'. But the common thread to all these events is clear. The fact is, the black man always feels threatened and thus cannot see himself making headway if he is not in 'control', by coercion if necessary. We see it everyday in our politics, governance, business and work spaces. We find it extremely hard to manage people of diversity and tolerate dissent, particularly when they do not present in 'our image'. You walk into a class and see something 'insulting' on the board and it 'blows up your psyche'..... children oh..... then how do you handle 'unruly adults'.... like our ASP.... you just shoot them for 'indiscipline'. |
IyaTola:You went from an autocracy to a democracy and to you this is hell? Africans are indeed emotionally unintelligent and poor organisers of workable societies. If they are not allowed to rule in feudal set ups they misfire. Is this the famed legacy of colonialism or what? |
This is the product of the failed or will I say truncated endSARS movement caused by a recalcitrant government and a conniving citizenry, divided by sentiment and unable to demand for good governance with the dexterity and fortitude of their counterparts in 'saner climes'. We will continue to suffer until we get serious. Restructure, they say no. Preach reform and they feel threatened and fight you to keep the status quo going. So sorry for the victims of our collective ineptitude as a citizenry to take control of our country. |
Is it the drone that you need a permit from the IGP to own or another type of flying machine....? When you have a slow and archaic government architecture most innovations in science and technology are perceived as threats to them. Abroad, governments there already have antidotes to drone operational malfeasance. Here they use a sledge hammer when they cannot develop a bug spray by asking consumers to jump through hoops to acquire them. |
Braai is not healthy. This has been a long standing issue. A little bit for Christmas, yes, but..... |
OGIBRA:You are comparing whole scale killings to oil theft, cbn policies and second Niger bridge. Are you alright at all. Lives of people do not matter to you such that their demise should not be reported or spoken about? If you have nothing positive to contribute to this topic then it is better you remain silent. We have not descended to such depths of depravity yet as a country. Do not lead us there please. |
Audible to the deaf, visible to the blind and only unrecognizable to the dead in conscience.....yes, much, much worse just as we anticipated in 2014. But Nigerians MUST OF NECESSITY learn by this experience to tailor their emotions and actions to their expectations particularly as concerning their politics. You simply cannot sow tares and expect a grain harvest. |
Masterclass32:He put himself down. Ridiculed the institution by dabbling into murky partisan politics and retail banking. He brought the ant infested wood into the hallowed Central Bank and the nature of high finance is fighting back. Once again. Without restructuring, Nigeria just cannot experience a better next year. |
Zonefree:Other ladies too would have also spent it on better things than 'stomach infrastructure'.... with gut acid dissolving all this 'investments' within 6 hours. But we understand it is the season of splurge and spree.... ![]() |
Manny21:It is not also a sin to demand good governance to partake in the good things of life.... at least once in a lifetime. You only have one life to live. Fight for a better one. Stop 'managing' when it is in your power to demand prosperity. The people you cannot challenge with your advocacy are having a good time. Stop protecting them by 'managing'. |
Righteousness2:Good one. Wisdom is in your heart. Without God at the centre I cannot understand how anyone can expect a marriage to work. |
They will be angry and start killing themselves over basic issues of life and living instead of them to get angry with misgovernance and the leaders that put them in the way of tribulation. If they dared elect visionary leaders that know how to constitute decent societies then the knowledge and practice of insurance will have saved lives in this case. No, they won't. For 500 naira and songs of sentiment they sharpen their swords against one another. |
jeffmatt4u:No. Develop a vision to lead your life. Do not invest in emotions. |
That will be a bold leadership decision absolutely necessary for many reasons. It will first and foremost completely end the corruption associated with the failed subsidy program. It will also 'hopefully' lead to the kind of upswing in citizen angst that will trigger participation and accountability in governance. Because the question is simple: With the trillions in savings from subsidy removals, if the funds are then spent.... or wasted the way they have been throughout this present regime and further back on phantom social investment programs or overpriced, unnecessary and ill-advised so called infrastructure projects aimed at rewarding their contractor friends and cronies, then inflation will ultimately destroy the government. So the advise is clear. The savings should be channeled towards enterprise bearing investments. To investments that will generate income in the short, medium and ling term, preferably in foreign exchange. And what better way to do this than a collaboration between the Sovereign Wealth Fund and Private Sector Partnerships all aimed at exports of various goods and services. |
