abobote:It can happen. Folks, get vaccinated. People have been dropping like flies these past few weeks. |
Hmmm.... now I undertand what that yellow light between the red and green is for... ![]() .... yes, get ready.... to go.. |
The President of any nation is not a beauty contest where 'looks' determine performance. Rather it is the product of a gruesome examination process where precedents and antecedents are judged and a concerted interview where the infamous question rounds up the inquest, 'what are you bringing to this company to improve its fortunes'. Now the rigours of the recruitment process will be determined by the nature of the enterprise and the state of affairs. The way and manner a special forces soldier is recruited is different from that of a crack surgeon and different from a comedian for a talk show. Also the way and manner a Fortune 500 company recruits is different from Chief Okereke and Sons Limited. How we recruit our President says a lot about who we are, how serious we are and what our expectations amount to. Doubtlessly we have failed time and again as a people to apply due diligence in selecting the leader of this country. As a matter of fact how many can boldly say their electoral choices can be taken home to serve them individually or work for them in any personal capacity. Fact is we do a far better job choosing friends, acquaintances and servants than we do our political office holders. |
'...problematic flight in Lagos...' Are there any flights within Lagos.... perhaps from Ikeja to Victoria Island?.... cannot understand... |
backbencher:Oga. Wake up. Less than 15 million Nigerians benefit from the 1.5million barrels of oil a day. Don't you look at the yearly budget before coming here to peddle false theories. Study the budget to understand what Nigeria's financial outlook is. Almost everything earned is spent recurrently. The bulk of capital votes are domiciled in debts and overdrafts, one kind of deficit or the other. Look around you. Is there any major project that is not funded with a loan presently so what are you saying. The situation is bad but since 2015 the cost of government/governance has balooned to unprecedented proportions, almost 5 trillion a year such that even if subsidies are totally removed the culture of reckless spending will ensure it all gets lost in salaries, allowances and frivolous overheads. The seven million or so folks who 'organise' society at all levels, aka government consume over 90 percent of those oil earnings you quote. Just look at the figures. So before you begin to diversify and industrialise as you say we as a country need to address with utmost urgency the cost of governance. No serious developing nation has at its core an unwieldy bureaucracy, an army of supervisors (because that is what government is). I have been saying this for years. If you own a business particularly a productive one and you spend more money on your office at the expense of the shop floor, you will eventually go bankrupt. Successful businesses start on the shop floor where production happens. In China rising many workers live in the factories they work, they set up camps there, the average Igbo man starting up will live in his shop, that is the spirit of enterprise. Even in America great companies started out in garages. That is the attitude a rising Nigeria needs before thinking about production. But here all the resources are finished between the bank and the office and those who are supervisors are given priority in everything. If Nigeria must produce the investments have to be made at production centres, meaning Abuja has to be shut down literaly and resoucres expended at points of production, the people and their businesses., period. |
Without reliable electricity everywhere in Nigeria this will remain a mirage. What will Nigeria do when the last diesel and petrol engine is made somewhere in China..... The time is coming.... |
In my country where life insurance takes on a whole new meaning.... quite frankly... this is child's play. I was putting up a Christmas tree today and I sure did not use a ladder. |
Thank goodness. Never been a fan. Never watched any. Never could understand the appeal. Anyway even Hollywood is not immune from the death of classic story telling. Over the past decade as clearly indicated from the Box Office, cartoons appear to rule the screens. |
Same thing they were all accusing the Amaechi government of doing. Spending taxpayers funds on personal public promotions and ambitions. The EFCC must surely look into this once his immunity is done. And for the governors taking a car bribe from a colleague.... how low can they get... |
Trendingbiz042:You have refineries that have not worked for three decades and through six governments and still cannot find it in you to think out of the box and consider the fact that Nigeria does not have a structure that makes government any good at any enterprise as exemplified by the sentimental decision to build a rail line to a foreign country before establishing a network within proving that position which no right thinking businessman or business concern will do. |
paramakina202:It is called between and betwix. They need a doctor urgently but cannot un/dress for examination. |
Looks nice. Well done guv. |
ChiefSosa:The government is simply jittery at the moment. They know they have lost credibility and the moral justification to continue in power. It is the last kick of a drowning autocracy. |
That is Nigeria for you. Through the responses here you can realise why a nation that cannot share universal ideals and values is struggling to move forward. |
GonzalezAguero:Then why not enlighten us about this fantastic 'startup' given a whole 5G license... What exactly is wrong with this country... |
Same Nigerians complaining (rightly) about the poor handling of the power sector privatisation which was shrouded in secrecy and slots sold to cronies are defending this. You sell perhaps the most valuable high tech licence in the history of Nigeria to an enterprise with zero experience and a blank CV..... Who does that in ANY civilised part of the world... Only in Nigeria... |
GonzalezAguero:What do you know about the person or the company to put up such a stout 'defense'. It doesn't worry you that a company incorporated barely a year old will command such prime real estate where security is of serious importance. They are certainly fronting for someone or some enterprise out there and the National Assembly should be placed on full alert to disclose to the public through the DSS where all this comes from. It is in the public interest as will be in saner climes. |
Sorry to say this but Nigerian architects are just wack. Their laziness is beyond comprehension, their best works mere copy and paste, zero creativity. The first and last iconic structure in Nigeria remains the National Arts Theatre. Why something better has not been replicated the last 50 years befuddles me. And we sit back and wonder why we do not feature on any credible tourism map. |
That is the difference between the public and private sector. A few days ago a child was tragically killed and with much publicity stern action has been taken and the school closed down. How many lives have been lost in government owned and run institutions both secondary and tertiary over the years. Who has been held accountable for these tragedies and why is it not a single institution has ever been closed down on account. Friends, we need to restructure to get government upstanding and responsible or else our sufferings will simply continue. If Dowen College was owned by government at any level believe me nothing will have happened and the school will have continued in session. The liability will completely be on the victims. |
Real Madrid is a better run club than FC Barcelona, simple. |
Truth. We have been talking about capacity or the lack of it for the past seven years. When we select our leaders with less diligence than the people they lead then challenges are bound to arise. Mr. President never attended any meaningful interview or participated in any meaningful debate in the run up to the elections. If I do not submit proper credentials or attend an interview how can that establishment expect to assess my ability to perform. |
ogwumgbe:They do not because of the support they receive from you and me typical. I do not know of any public office holder or politician that has been universally condemned in Nigeria since independence for misdeeds. They will always find a support base, a willing citizenry who will not quit smoking to aid their cancer treatment. When an individual, group or system is universally condemned the law is strengthened to take its course. The law is only as strong as the citizens want it to be. This fellow in question does not have a support base so it is easy to get justice for the victim. But the infamous Sani Abacha has a great support base even in death and I bet if he was alive no one will even dream of prosecuting him for his grand misdeeds. And that is why we will always call for the restructuring of this country so we can develop a universal identity, sort out what constitutes right and wrong as an acceptable way to live in our nation. |
ObaOfUyo:Because fraud is not an endemic, debilitating problem in the US. Look at the sentences for the crimes that really bother that country and compare. Justice will always totter towards sentiment. She may be blind but she can hear clearly. |
No wonder MTN is floating.... |
The EPL just does not suit the guy. Even at Everton he was often caught flat footed. Prem defenders are the ultimate hustlers, without an iota of respect for name or fame. I am certain if he was in Spain he would be setting some euro wide goal scoring records. |
MightySparrow:Once they started calling him 'Chairman' the thing got to his head, now he is the Sorry to say this but we blacks have a double dose of difficulty managing success. |
Relax Mr. Lawan. No one is chasing after you. In a nation of docile citizens there is no sin against humanity. Anything goes. |
While I acknowledge foreigners particularly Caucasians have this affinity for anthropology, I can not see any benefit in this beyond cardiovascular exercise. The persistent use of that grinder can even lead to serious back injury down the line. |
themanderon:Hmmm.... they say just take a train journey and you will be okay, your personal economy restored.... that the 'trains' are the solution to everything.... ![]() |
RichDad1:Hey, quit the sentiment. They are simply acting to secure their citizens and their healthcare system which any responsible democratic citizen respecting goverment does. Here a thousand may fall by their right hand and ten thousand may perish on their left but they will never be moved to act or their citizens responsible enough to obey the simple science and get vaccinated. You sit down here and expect a country with 70% plus vaccination coverage to expose itself carelessly to a nation with less than 10% coverage. Who does that. I said it then and repeat it yet again. With our poor attitude we will be one of the last countries to sort out the mess and get out of the Covid boat for good. |
Craggybogg:I think the NFF is looking towards another foreigner on a permanent basis so the interim person has to be one who they are familiar with and comfortable with. He may not be the most competent but he is an establishment person which will help a permanent transition. What I am personally persuaded about is that he cannot be worse than Rohr. |
Hmmm.... our own Ralf Rangnick. Hope he is inoculated against the Nigerian virus of sentiment and crass nepotism. He has been around football administration at that level for a very long time now. He has no excuse to fail. |
