izzou: railway to el-dorado... |
Many, many sympathies on the loss of property and condolences on the devastation to many families at the loss of lives. But Nigerians, have you noticed one thing.... those buildings still standing have electricity... Back here the slightest pre-downpour breeze and our DISCOS will shut down power... and if one is not careful it may not be restored for days or weeks on end. |
lloydtruth:Na so. As if he is a citizen and we are government. Always telling us what he and his comrades in power should be doing.... and now that we know.... what the heck can we do.... to 'smarten' the approach... ![]() |
MICHEALADEX:And with all the warnings we (and I use 'we' with all sense of fellowship with the failed citizens of Nigeria because I too did warn) still went ahead to vote a person with glaring inadequacies and shortcomings, a person we were forewarned did not have the capacity to lead a complex society such as ours. So, if we were warned about the situation and warned about the 'solution', how come we still manage to put the two together. How come we still manage a stick of cigarette when we clearly have lung cancer. Shouldn't we have held back for a moment and thought the whole thing through instead of rushing blindly to empower a person we clearly 'did not know well enough'. A butcher may be good with knives and comfortable around blood but you will think twice to call him for an appendectomy innit? |
iwaeda:The first line of that quote is very deep. The Book Launch thing could have been delayed a bit at his insistence. And even if he could not personally be on ground in Sokoto, he could hook up via video link to the government and people of Sokoto to commiserate with the bereaved, placate and reassure the wider citizenry. His handlers... and I speak about his Chief of Staff is not acting properly at all. As a leader this is simply not good enough. |
When you refuse as a people to vaccinate you put yourselves in all sort of needless difficulties and subject the lives and livelihoods of those who obey official directives and respect their neighbours in jeopardy. Our vaccination rates are just to low in Nigeria and the greater Africa for us not to be seen as a potential threat to nations where rates are much higher. And governments there that are accountable to their citizens will take appropriate action to protect them. Let us look inwards and sort out the fragile, glassy nature of our public health architecture and systems before throwing stones. I said this almost two years ago when this Covid thing started. That Nigeria will be one of the last countries to sort herself out and get back into mainstream globalisation after the fact. We are just too slow and just too ambivalent to handle serious, fundamental challenges, overcome them and forge ahead. |
Click bait.... ![]() |
Hakeem12:And then a serious regimen of antibiotics..... very gross... ![]() ....then if you are in a civilised country, head to the courts..... and possibly free coffee for the rest of your life... ![]() |
GenAbacha:Well, distress may not be all about the loss of the merchandise. There may also be issues of performance concerning timely delivery where huge contracts or reputations could be irreparably damaged. Insurance does not cover for every failure just as forgiveness does not cover the scar of sin. |
The same lame rhetoric by the State, "....protests will be hijacked by.... (whoever the powers that be want to shut up)....", and the cowardly citizens will beat a hasty retreat with their tails between their legs.... and then the country sinks to another low... |
openmine:And you need not personalise my response which is made to address anyone out there subject to doubt as a result of her comments. That the issue goes beyond this incident because failure to take appropriate action and a review of our thought process will only bring the next incident much closer. What every well meaning parent out there should be thinking right now is simple. Does my child have a potential act in him or her that could put me in serious trouble. |
wirinet:You can imagine that. And that is a society that is very liberal, much more laid back towards parenting than ours yet they are sitting up and taking action while we conservatives are playing to the gallery and watching our future generations crash and burn right before our eyes. |
openmine:And if they believe her so what... That the boy asked to be killed ? Even if he asked to be tortured and killed does that lessen the liability ? Manslaughter or murder the last time I checked is a crime against society, against the state no amount of sentiment can cover. |
wirinet:Indeed and that is why lately I have advocated for parental liability for some of the henoius crimes we increasingly see minors commit these days. We just cannot fold our arms and let murder, violence and brigandage go unanswered because they are commited by children. If these kids cannot be charged and held with adults then their parents must answer in one way or the other for their crimes. At the very least they should be liable for civil penalties in such a manner that sends a strong social message that bad, poor or inadequate parenting has dire consequences. Then the kid can be sent to rehab if there are no cultism/gang affiliations. |
Not much in that. May just change premeditated to involuntary but gang affiliation will still ensure life. |
All of them. Nothing healthy looking in that pic. |
hisexcellency34:Ganduje must have gotten a heads-up about the corrosive speech and sent his deputy instead..... ![]() |
muykem:Na so. The way you folks 'hated' the one before it. All of a sudden we now realise governments and leaders can be 'hated' and it is bad for the country. Talk about having your cake and eating it. |
If we had a functional, civilised police service and a working judiciary a patrol or beat officer will be round the corner to settle the matter in the most logical and satisfactory manner like we see in civlised societies. But what happened to the protest that should have turned to a movement to trigger this much desired institutional change.... it died prematurely. Destroyed by the forces which will not have Nigeria develop so like Mr. Camry we continue to suffer and pay the penalty for our collective failure to have a better society. When we see citizens abroad hit the streets time and again demanding for better governance, what is our excuse when we are governed far worse. |
The consequences of bad governance will reach everyone.... sooner or later. |
Gaddafi1:Except an individual is not living in a metropolis, with the hike I cannot see an average automobile consuming less than N100,000 worth of gasoline every month. Now, what is the minimum wage again. For those living in heavily congested cities such as Lagos and Portharcourt where traffic accounts for up to 20 percent of fuel consumption I see even worse driving habits as a result of the proposed hike and of course this will just become a vicious cycle of suffering. |
The lives of those young bullies are virtually over before it began. Even if they escape formal justice in a skewed state like Nigeria, in this age of rampaging media attention courtesy of an internet that never sleeps and never forgets, they can run to the farthest parts of the earth and still be found out and alienated. It is a stiff cautionary tale for parents. Money spent on your wards is not the only consideration, not the primary consideration. You must do the hard work of building character and establishing a moral foundation that will give you lasting peace and save you from a lifetime of heartache and regrets. I think government can make hay with this widely publicised incident to push for legislation to establish more liability on parents of minors for some of the most heinous crimes we see escalating in the nation today which we are all too familiar with: drug abuse, cultism, brigandage and insurgency. Society will then be in a far better shape to advance this nation. |
Except if you MUST LIVE THERE. I cannot for the life of me spend 750 and dwell/battle with neighbours in a Nigerian apartment block. The scenes, the neighbourhood too is just not it. Wack buildings all around. Where is the 'scenic'. Abuja remains better for mid-high rise.... far better views. Flip side, as an investor 750 will get you something far better and of greater residual value in the Gulf. |
Faller:When the citizens do not place concrete demands on their leaders for performance, mediocrity is taken out for a walk. Just consider all the indices of life and living in Nigeria from the economy to security to human development hitting the floor and digging into it in most cases and we see nothing wrong.... why won't fairy tales make headlines. If this leader, this leadership, this government and this party were to be in place in any other democracy in the world except one which is as bent, they would be walking on brimstone day after day, but these ones can afford to party because we do not have a functional democracy, the people just do not know how to organise themselves into a viable, successful and prosperous nation. |
The school did not handle this case wisely. They should have called for a settlement much earlier knowing that as a private establishment they are exposed and fully liable not to talk about being in a reputation based business. Now the civil suit alone is probably going to put them out of business or at the least the government may just shut down its boarding system which I think they should do if the school is permitted to survive.... for the sake of the education of other existing students. |
Ah, ah... but we are already in the 'jeopardy' na. But I expect Camp Rohr and his bloody band of brothers in the NFF to fight back. Shame they are dragging a legend into their mess. |
OssyMalik:Just fell for the trap with the crude response.... |
Disgusting.... and terribly unhealthy. |
donbachi:I used to think resisting the so called peer pressure was part of 'good parenting'. Haven't we all heard of Parenting 101: "Do not talk to strangers". |
Boss13:Their agenda making is killing that station. Can no longer watch it for more than 10 minutes a day. They used to be a global brand reflecting global values. |
Liverpool is the real deal if City slips up to the Prem. |
Kano State politics has always been the most dynamic in all of Nigeria. Political office is always keenly contested. The people will not just down and watch politicians turn themselves to tin gods while expecting the people to follow like sheep forever. |
