Tell me who will willingly desire to pay taxes in this country with reports like these. With poverty galloping to unprecedented heights those with responsibilities appear to live in total disconnect. Even serial hailers should find this repulsive at the least. For heavens sake I pay for my meals whereever I am and whatever assignments I conduct. What exactly do these people do that makes it mandatory that they be fed on the job. |
zombieHUNTER:Elections have consequences anywhere in the world. It is only here in Nigeria that we cannot marry our choices with our experiences. |
Patode:It was planned by a universally accepted profligate administration rejected wholesale in 2015 and was replaced by an administration that claimed it was going to be prudent with resources right down to the famous, inaugural presidential breakfast and sachet coco in that same presidential house. What has happened since then. I tell you. The economy has significantly deteriorated since then requiring even more belt tightening but what do we have. A Contractor's paradise in full bloom, with its poster child, Julius Berger, doing what it has been doing since the 70's..... humongous, unreasonable, citizen provoking, wastages... This is indefensible by any but the worst kind of administrations and the worst kind of citizens. |
Indeed....elections do have serious consequences... We brought this upon ourselves... QED. |
Nigeria. A.contractor's paradise where those without an iota of interest are given full responsibility for the most important of investments. How is this system expected to work. Only through a concerted system of restructuring will resources be alloted to responsibility.whereby those who die of water borne diseases and waste away in thirst will band together and be supported to effect these projects, not some villan close to the corrupt corridors of central power. The absolutely ridiculous reality today is that there are countless communities out there where humongous amounts of money have been allocated for basic services over the decades that have no inkling whatsoever that these projects have come and gone with nothing on ground. How can this ridiculous scheme of things continue regime after regime and election after election without a shred of inquest. What a docile nation of conquered peoples, suffering, struggling and smiling to the polls to repeatedly empower their taskmasters. |
psychalade:Ask me. A government where no one thinks.....useless 'kleptocrats' |
Kidadest:....with malaria certainly. Is there any doubt in anyone's mind in Nigeria today that 2015 was a big mistake.... 2019 was a criminal mistake and 2023 is potentially stacking up to be the mistake to end all mistakes.... Is there anyone in Nigeria who truly does not stand in awe at the depths of depravity this country has sunk into. |
Bayonet40:What is thanks very much.... are you nuts. You need surgery man. If it ruptures you are done. The cost to keep you alive will then be a serious matter. Stop playing roulette with your life and head to the nearest A&E. |
This is not right.... at all. This is all for Ighalo and his agents in the NFF..... just to thrust him back into the limelight. The Eagles should not be a rehab centre or an old folks home cos it will choke up the dressing room and discourage the younger lads. Imagine what it will do to the psyche of someone like Victor Osimen whom I understand Bayern Munich is set to launch a bid for next summer.... C'mon, the NFF should be living in the future. Not the past. Let me not even suggest or hint of underhand dealings going on. We have no issues upfront.... defence, yes, midfield, yes, attack, a big no. The dugout.... most certainly, the NFF Secretariat.... absolutely. |
Just in time before Conte is snapped up in the typical winter revolving managerial doors. Understand the Italian is asking for certain guarantees. |
abbaashiru:You can immediately see that the story did not inspire. For the above post is the typical reaction and evidence of little substance. Nigeria does not need this at this point in time. |
Of course. Nigeria is a contractor's paradise. Aside trading and contracting, what else is there to do in this country that is not headache or heartache. Thought the inspirational message will be about 'solutions'. Creating devices or systems or ideas that will move society forward. Solve one or two challenges that abound in Nigeria. But alas, typically Nigerian it will always start and end with personal benefits and personal aggrandisement. How many half a billion naira contracts are there to go round the teeming youth of Nigeria, your story is expected to inspire. Please watch CNN and see what real inspiration is all about and edit your story. |
Nice one. Now can government do the really hard part and craft a solid business plan to keep the airport running at no additional burden to the taxpayer. Then the cycle of 'investment in infrastructure' can be said to be complete. Not like the Federal Government 'white elephants' here and there they call investments instead of their real call signs as serious 'money pits'. |
Ventura1:Oga. You and most Nigerians are just too naive about this democracy thing to benefit anything from it. You think elections is democracy, you think elections is the ticket to good governance so you hang onto 'Promises' and 'Hope' for dividends. What can be so naive as that. It is like buying a car and expecting it to take you around without driving it. When you see incessant debates, dogged movements and constant agitations and serial political pressure in advanced climes where good governance is normal, what do we think kthey area doing.... 'driving the car mof democracy'..... OPERATING democracy. So that fancy automobile can hold a lot of performance promises that will NEVER be realised until it is driven. The level of our political engagement is just too shoddy to get elected leadership deliver decent performaces. The kind of things we tolerate in this country has set other nations on fire and set them on course for revolutions but we just cannot rid our psyche of generations of slavery and decades of military rule and I am afraid it may take several more years or a few decades of severe suffering to kick start the much needed engagement. |
Oh, very easy. The late and great Socrates. Perhaps the most naturally gifted soccer player I have even been privileged to watch. Made the game too easy to watch and a joy to behold. If there was ever a player who could glide round the pitch displaying uncanny moves with enough ease to sip from a champagne flute it was Socrates. RIP, great man. |
jchioma:Because the same citizens who are victims today ended up deterring the ENDSARS protests. After it collapsed prematurely a year ago I did say the whole thing was akin to incomplete chemo therapy to an infection. That the end result will be a much worse police service and all evidence since then points to that, as no serious reforms were made to the institution, driving the criminals therein into deeper, darker territories from which they now terrorise the citizenry. It is the failure of society that permits the police to deteriorate to such reprehensible levels. The lack of common values, common desires and aspirations of a citizenry will subject them to poor administration. |
I suppose Antonio Conte remains available. United had better buy in before winter when a whole slew of equally under performing clubs with cash and ambition shuffle their dugouts and will snap him up. He is one of the few coaches out there with the personality and discipline to radically change a side, something this United squad badly needs. And he has coached and won things in the tough Premiership. |
Elections have consequences.... and the people who cast away their votes for cheap, useless sentiment will surely wade through the mire of life.... Suffering is indeed good for the soul. |
This United team is just poor. No energy whatsoever. I simply cannot see a title in waiting.... any title. |
adioolayi:Because we are a gossip laden nation of cowards who cannot mobilise the necessary social force for political good so we love to hide and whip up sentiment. A nation of extremists. Either extremely violent in mindless agitation or extremely docile in civil responsibilities. |
Sirjamo:Just condemn violence and move on please. When you begin to 'add-on' you begin to excuse it, then justify it and finally become a vocal supporter of it. Then you are a significant part of the problem. It is a slippery slope every promoter of violence unintentionally jumps on to. Condemn violence everywhere and break the vicious cycle, period. |
MaxiB1242:Hahaha....those ones will soon graduate with MBBS... I understand Wilshere is already a physiotherapist..... ![]() |
Can't live long like this. |
It ... is called recycling..... And is good for the environment and will hedge against climate change down the line. |
That is what you get when a nation is unfortunate to have perhaps the worst Executive ever superintended by certainly the worst Legislature ever. Mediocrity in leadership cannot be hidden. It shows, clear to the blind and audible to the deaf. The results of the 2015 misadventure will be clear to all.... to all. That indeed, elections have consequences. And for those who rooted for this unfortunate 8th National Assembly, chasing out the Saraki regime, I hope you have all been adequately rewarded with recession and the whole scale depreciation and destruction of your assets and businesses. At least the Saraki regime will have fought, delayed, denied a lot of these mindless, financially reckless borrowings that have corroded the economy. The battles which will have been fought will have resulted in deep introspection and perhaps led to alternative ideas towards our financial survival. Pity. We will understand how democracy works by the force of suffering. This is a certainty. Sentiment is on its last legs. |
Which kind of nonsense is this. Government official running commentary on the dire state of affairs, passing verdicts instead of acting. That is why noting positive happens. Thise who have been enmpowered to 'do' are 'commentators' and when fire fighters sit down to analyse how destructive fires are instead of rushing in to putbthem out then total destruction is certain. I also agree that cerrain decisions are beyond even the purview of government, the Executive, particularly those that will require radical changes to the socioeconomic fabric of society. Then that is exactly what the Legislature is for. That if Nigerians have to adjust to a new regime of 'economic reality', the people should be allowed to debate and chart the necessary course of action. And the role of leadership then will be to get the Legislature involved. Has the Vice President done this or does he intend to do this. So I just cannot see beyond mere posturing, 2023 political posturing, which is okay if the forces that keep us in this vicious cycle of economic stragulatuon are not around and pulling the strings if he takes full charge of affairs. |
Now you will respect Jesus Christ who fed 5,000 with five loaves and two fishes. |
Here they come.again. Just like in 2014, making democracy appear like a beauty pageant and the Presidency akin to Miss World. No one is talking about capacity, no one is talking about ability. No one is talking about the solutions to the numerous challenges. No one is talking about the people. They are talking about themselves because to them democracy is all about themselves. And unfortunately to those who democracy is expected to serve, are not bothered. They are just there to watch the pageant. It is only a failed candidate that will talk about himself and dream about his wages but is completely at sea with the tasks he is expected to perform at the establishment he seeks employment. |
Funny.... cos once upon a time in heavyweight land the tale of the elders was that the white man just couldn't box.... |
OminickConcept:And where does government get its power from? oh great Socrates... |
''....Nigeria must be free, must be at peace, by 'force'..... " This is where I stopped reading this emerging sad tale... If this is the base mentality pervasive at the Villa and in the corridors of government then it is a sad state of affairs and shows very little hope of survival of the Nigeria state. For what is the point of democracy when issues simply CANNOT be sorted out in a cerebral, round a table manner with critical thinkers, not brutish psychopants holding sway. Is every challenge to the state a fly that must be smashed with a cudgel?. This is just poor statemanship, poor governance on display. In saner climes you have institutes of think tanks, reservoirs of knowledge, governments tap in times of great national challenges to proffer solutions and move the nation forward. The only tool we appear to have is the military coercion. That is national weakness, not strength.... for violence has never ultimately welded societies or any form of relationships together in a lasting, profitable manner. The best societies today are held together by solidarity and a sense of justice and universal well being where citizens SEE the greater benefits of remaining together BY THEMSELVES, not reminded day after day by people that they know donot love or care one bit for them. And if this government cannot unite this country in a just and equitable manner with all it has done in the past six years it should enter into deep introspection instead of lashing out at every slight push back like a school bully that is always on edge. For such an individual then becomes a magnet of endless provocation and a plaything in the hands of everyone. This government should rise up and take responsibility, take the moral high ground and stop 'wrestling in the mud' with every agent of socio-political change for this is a certainty in a DEMOCRACY. |
