Even if they were deploying a truck load of cement a month, that bridge should have long been finished. But I guess the expectations of Abians for good governance is essentially non existent. |
ProfAmaben:Have you been to the canteen at Ajaokuta at lunch time. Was at the senior staff a number of years back and the chow served there could rival that of Saipem. The buzz around the factory will make you think anything happened there. Guess what. I was on a 'tourist visa' accompanying a high level audit team trying to find out what the heck that plant was consuming a regular N5 Billion naira government subvention for. Mark you, that was 5 Billion when the naira to a dollar was still two digits. |
Praxis758:Na so. The very people political office holders by pass when awarding by those jobs in their bedrooms such that the so called 'foreign expats' look down on them and will never agree to be subservient. |
dasparrow:True. With the open grazing statewide bans and the recent VAT brouhaha, alarm bells are sounding all over the north and real prospects of losing their 'ownership' of Nigeria is staring them in the face. They will do everything to hang onto power at the centre. It is practically their only hope of surviving the gale of structural changes this country needs to go through. |
TheTrueSeeker:Sounds more like an amusement park ride.....'Extreme Rollercoasters'.... Love to do a midnight, traffic free run at 140k's to replicate the "Bullitt' galloping car chase on the streets of SanFrancisco... ![]() |
For one uncompleted bridge and one and a half railway lines..... ![]() Nigeria is sold down the river. Abeg its time for my daily workout... See you guys after sweat |
ANDREW91:Abeg. Its late in the day for me to explain to you how democracy works and works for those who should make it work. But to confuse personal popularity to what is called a popular vote in a democratic process is unfortunate. And that is where we in Nigeria often miss it. We mix up personalities with processes. And that is why we Africans are always vulnerable to feudalism. Popular voting simply means transferring the greatest amount of power and responsibility possible from citizen to whoever is elected. The larger the mandate the more responsible the leader HAS TO BE. But this only works well when there is an atmosphere of citizen demand for goo governance. Democracy is not about personalities. It is not a beauty contest but more like the product of a job interview. You score high marks or the highest marks doesn't mean you own the company or will conduct your duties the way you like. What is means is that you are the best possible person to meet the aspirations of the firm. So quite naturally the better you perform at examination the greater the assignments you will be given. Only in Nigeria do the citizens feel their responsibilities towards good governance start and end at the polls. After elections they hand over their lives to these public servants to do with it as they please. That is not democracy. |
ANDREW91:It is people advocacy and pressure that brings out the best in governance anywhere in the world. What to watch out for in a successful democratic experiment is not necessarily the qualities of the candidate but the process by which such candidate emerges and the atmosphere in which he or she operates. If the next Anambra State Governor is truly elected democratically, winning by popular mandate he will have no option than to govern by that mandate. |
Simply because Pepe did not play. Should be offloaded together with Leno and other misfits that have acerbated Arsenal's recent mediocrity. |
hosemujica:To mirror what followers. What are you talking about.? Is he living for God or living to please men? Is there any man on earth not relative to another. Show me the rich and I will show you richer even in his congregation. Show me poor and I will show you poorer in his congregation, so where do you want any man to stand. Even you who speaks. There are several, thousands of poorer people around you. Let me see you empty your house and go around na.ked because of them. When Jesus was accused of similar 'ostentation' by non other than deceitful pharisees His reply was simple. "The poor will always be around you'...... YOU, YOU, YOU fellows always critical. So go and do your part. Jesus said so because he knew the value of numbers and as God who played His own part in feeding the poor and healing the sick He sends us out to play our own part knowing the fact that poverty is all about numbers and can only be conquered if EVERY MAN (including the Pharisees) played their part in giving and sacrificing not waiting for any specialist in sacrifice or those more endowed. An egalitarian society is not any single man's possibility. Give all you have and you will still not scratch the surface of societal poverty so I cannot see what the difference in cost between a 'limousine' and a 'Corolla' will do to conquer poverty in Nigeria or in The Deeper Christian Life Ministries. Let the man be abeg. He doesn't ride limousines on the streets of Lagos to oppress the poor so he clearly is not possessed by the spirit of the world. Just one appearance on a chariot and weak, ignorant Christians are losing their minds?..... haba. |
And you can imagine that the Contractor will pay/charge VAT of 7.5% on this gargantuan, long suffering project and part of the proceeds will end up in other 'economically disadvantaged' States in Nigeria that are just along for the ride.... We operate a highly unjust structure, so unwieldy, it has left us unable to move forward as a nation. |
Is this part of good governance or dividends of democracy being served. We are not tired of mediocrity in this country. You will think an Executive Governor of a State in these torrid times will be out an about seeking the survival of his people... ![]() |
Just look at the mass of vehicles. What government sees is a huge headache and a bad liability. What investors see is a huge market and potential windfall. Folks. We need businessmen in charge of this nations affairs. We just cannot continue like this. |
musicwriter:Period. The only economic factor infrastructure offers is to lower the cost of production, cost of trade, etc. It does not create anything. Transportation is merely a tool, a means, so the cost of providing a service, providing the infrastructure is critical particularly if it is an opportunity cost as with a desperately poor nation like Nigeria. If all these borrowings are stoking hyper inflation and leading to massive devaluation of the naira and thus crushing jobs, businesses and most importantly disposable incomes then how can productivity be sustained. If I have a farm in the middle of nowhere and need infrastructure such as power, water and roads to convey my products out I do need to invest but I cannot afford to do it at any cost or else the farm which is the centre piece of such investment will suffer. If I go borrowing wily nily and the farm cannot pay back then what is the business all about. Rather I should think out of the box and either look for alternative or complimentary sources of funding for the infrastructure or alternative means of providing the infrastructure such as concessions, partnerships or barters. If these rail lines are not business modelled then we are in for it. Sooner than later we will begin to hear the familiar, that government is subsidising rail travel. And if they are business modeled then why can't we attract the investment to complete the rail network. |
PeaceJoyLove:Just complete nonsense. By now they should have a business plan on how these rail lines will begin to offset these loans. Transport is a business and it has to be a business or it will become a huge drain short and long term. Anyone who invests in machines know this. In ten years time maintenance issues will arise. Will the loans be repaid by then? These people do not think far. |
Mr. Amaechi stop this nonsense. You have two rail lines running. Is that not enough to attract investment if you concession the existing lines. Is that not better than piling up these loans. Get investors who have accesses to long term funds at low interest rates and stop mortgaging Nigeria for travel tickets. There is much more to an economy than rail lines. Rail is business. Invest in it like business or it will become a huge white elephant. |
medokills:What a sensible government will do is to categorise infrastructure into social and economic and where its resources are lean cede/concession its economic infrastructure to private enterprise while it develops infrastructure that has no immediate economic value. There are highways that can generate revenue and make profits. Build/repair just one or two of them and sell them off to enterprise and let the look for the resources to expand to others. Same for the railway. The successful completion and comissioning of the Kaduna - Abuja line and the Lagos - Ibadan line is enough to stimulate interest and investmwent in new works if they were already sold and privately run. There is absolutely no need for government to take further loans for further rail development except for social, non profit routes which can as well wait as non priorities. For just as a business owner wants to make a once and for all investment to get his enterprise going so government should only take loans to stimulate development. It should not necessarily be a lifetime of bondage if the structure is right. |
You borrow such a humongous amount and it doesn't create jobs or stimulate productivity. Where are you going to get the resources to repay. Is it not from the taxes on individuals and companies that are not created. Is it the job less you will tax or companies folding up everyday. When sensible governments spend on infrastructure they start with either public works that are mass employment generators or infrastructure that directly stimulates business or aids directly in cutting cost of business so you can immediately begin to repay from real receipts and incomes remembering that these are loans and time is of the essence. Today, debt servicing is almost absolute, almost consuming all we earn from the ground. The country is essentially bankrupt and cannot absorb anymore shocks because the so-called investments are wrong and wrongly done. Rail lines are all well and good but they need patronage to make money. If the economy is retreating patronage will not meet with any prior projections and the debt trap will snap shut. |
And what percentage of Dubai development are we getting for that humongous amount. When I say structure is the problem I know what I mean. You spend such humongous amount and it has no positive impact whatsoever on the economy as infrastructure spending in saner climes does. No impact on job numbers, no impact on small and medium scale industries and enterprises, no impact on productivity thus GDP figures barely shift. Why. Structure. Because the bulk of that money finds its way overseas to create jobs and sustain industries abroad not to talk of fattening the foreign bank accounts of corrupt officials through the Nigerian Disease of 'CONTRACTING'..... Nigeria thinks it can develop by CONTRACTING out its responsibilities to multinationals and still expect a strong naira even with humongous capital flight. How foolish can we be. Saw such a poignant event just yesterday. Who remembers the youths who blocked the Calabar-Itu highway protesting the bad condition of the road. I was amazed when a respondent claimed remedial work had already been awarded to guess who....'Julius Berger'. So the idle, unemployed youths will sit by and await a 'multinational' to remediate a road right in front of them. As we speak Nigerian visas are probably being sought in Germany, a factory there is probably on alert to produce stuff for the jobsite and in a few short week banks there will begin to receive 'infrastructure' funds from a hapless nation that cannot do anything for itself or leadership that cannot put its people, its industries and thus its economy to work. They say they have spent trillions on infrastructure. Where is it. How can we claim to be spending so much yet getting poorer by the minute. Something just does not add up. |
TarOrfeeek:It is a CBN directive. Banks face the music if they don't. I rather think it is a good idea. And hopefully more stringent penalties will be meted out like suspension from the banking system for repeat offenders. Anyone who doesn't like it should go to court. |
sgtponzihater1:Even if he did so what. Are limousines for devils. Who created the mind that conceived such machines.? Who created the materials that made such devices.? Let Christians stop feeling guilty at the blackmail of satanic agents. If you are born into poverty you get accustomed to lack. Hunger and unclothedness doesn't move you. If you are born into the family of the Almighty God who is the owner of of everything that exists, abundance and riches simply does not move you. You do not lust after or run after the things YOU HAVE, YOU OWN. Your heart is not there. That is the life of Righteousness. Greed and lust is symptomatic of pursuit, of fear of lack or fear of losing something. Christians simply do not pursue what they own. When Jesus wanted anything he simply called for it, period. |
Kobojunkie:Yes you can. Your Father in heaven owns all the earth and everything in it was created FOR man. To pretend to dislike what He owns is total ignorance. |
falcon01:Certainly not. Except he's half caste or another national born in China. Looks more like a Filipino. |
WaffenSS:Fantastic herr Inspector Cluso.... These are just light topical issues for everyday conversation. Just enjoy the comments eh.... ![]() |
Honestly, Nigeria has bigger problems than this. Folks, winter is coming. The economy is about to hit serious storms. |
It all depends on the degree of severity of the accident. So by accident I suppose any incident or contact that will require the activation of the SRS and deployment of the airbag(s). And that is where to start from, a close inspection of all the airbag panels to see if they have been changed or reattached. As for the exterior, these days body work is absolute and panels are often replaced whole instead of beaten back or filled so it may not appear evident except to the very experienced eye. I however think the best way to determine the quality of a vehicle or the depth of repairs/modifications is the age old, proven test drive. If the vendor is willing to let you stress test it at all you will certainly discover life after accident in its handling particularly if you are familiar with that model. Gun the engine over a short stretch, hit the brakes hard and apply steering. All the surgery will cry out. PS. This applies to all vehicles including the Nigerian commissioned ones that do not have credible records. Test drive na sure banker. |
Do we have the Napoli midfield, do we have the Genk midfield.? Who is our top assist merchant in that Eagles team because both Osimen and Onuachu have paltry assists so far. That is they do not create much but are beneficiaries of creative play so it is pointless comparing these men without having the package deal of a Lorenzo Insigne, Hirving Lozano or the masterclass of a certain Fabian Ruiz in the Eagles squad or the equivalent in the Genk squad. |
Naso....boomshakalak.... The good thing is that the EU and The Royal Dutch have embassies right here in Abuja and even if their foreign staff do not venture out the drivers and cooks will tell the real stories... with their visibly increasing decay day after day... |
fredoooooo:Yes oh. It is the era of prosperity, of good governance, of safety and security. And we hope the 'Nigerian Dream' continues.....hahahaha.... the joke is on you guys.... hahahaha... ![]() Nigeria has never had it sooooo goooood.... ![]() At least we can ride trains to amuse ourselves since most amusement parks are abandoned.... |
otokx:Kai. Is it the NYSC's fault or clearly the failure of the central government that accords itself monopoly of the franchise of security in Nigeria. Is the NYSC equipped with the means and the Constitution to protect its own?.....No. A bit disappointed at your response. Why you guys insist on hiding and excusing the failures of this government baffles me. Wake up man. No kind of cosmetics will hide the festering sores of mis-governance. It is not only the NYSC that are potential victims. Even you need to read the manual if you desire to survive. No kidnapping incident I know of recent has separated and exonerated party faithfuls from'opposition' members. Wake up and call it what it is. Failed governance at the centre. |
Newton85:That one is easy. Richard 'Ricky' Owubokiri scored 50 goals for a single club Boavista and was once runner up in the European Golden Boot race. That is the pure meaning of prolific. For the National Team Rashidi Yekini remains our all time goaldor. Just that Yakubu had a longer career than most, being a journey man of sorts and playing for many more clubs than most Nigerian pros, he scored a heck load of goals in his career. |
Dozie32:Missed two two clear one on one chances on the side of each half. Needs to drink lots of Kool Aid and work on his composure. Improving performances no doubt. The way Spalletti has setup that team bar injuries he should give Immobile a serious run for the Capocannoniere. |
