10,000 should hint you at what is to come. Pretty paltry in this economy. But they have to survive I guess. Sorry oh. Hustle harder. PS. Missed the part where he said the chow was complimentary. Who the hell gives complimentary for 10 grand. Now you're beginning to annoy me... You should get a bottle of soda for that. No more. What da...Next you be asking for a massage and free pedicure... ![]() |
Hahahahaha.....seriously...military chaplains want a part of the action and perhaps the perks. They are tired of performing funeral rites.... Qatari dollars ringing.... ![]() Anyway it was a serious suggestion I gave a long while back as an important tool in beating this insurgency. We should realise that ideological driven militancy is almost impossible to defeat by force of arms. The Vietnam war was one. The wars in parts of Iraq and Afghanistan is another. They have no military solutions. To defeat a radically indoctrinated group you have to weaken its backbone, adulterate its fuel and its engine grounds to a halt with time. If this is what they intend to do, it is welcome and shows they are giving this war some serious thought. However, this should not be the role of the military. Programs such as these and other deradicalization, soft power initiatives are purely the responsibility of the civilian administration. And I will be lying if I say I am not disappointed with the total absence of civil input in this war at all levels, local, state and Federal, civic, traditional, religious leadership, Executives, Representatives, are all conspicous by their absence. Everyone needs to come together to work on a deradicalization, counter ideology strategy to snatch the narrative from Boko and ISWAP. It will end this thing quicker. |
Officialgarri:Death sentences are hardly executed un Nigeria. Since she is tried in the FCT it will be in the FCT Ministers purview and that will make it an even longer shot. She is likely to benefit from one of those Executive pardons, the victims called to a parley. |
What is our business. When we tell folks that the biggest decisions in life are best taken by God, folks often say it doesn't matter. So they gamble with their lives. You are lucky. Many others are not. Those who put their trust in God for the right decision have never failed, ever. |
EdoFirstBorn:Technically they do not need to offer anything if he is leaving on a free (courtesy of the Bosman), however if Mess I is indebted to the club in anyway particularly as regards to things like image rights then some cash may move from the City to the Camp. What usually happens in this case and what will have been happening since the summer is secret calls between both parties where City will carrot the man with huge a personal compensation package, something like converting most of the earlier planned transfer fee into his wages. City gets their man, Messi gets a humongous pre retirement package and Barcelona gets zilch. Anyway he has given them what no other player has ever given any soccer club ever. So their compensation has been well earned. To make money off Messi after all that he has given them over the years is quite frankly greed personified. |
Even they cannot avoid being sucked into Nigeria's terrible political black hole, saying, 'the trains bought during the GEJ era were still functional while those bought under this regime are faulty'... They have tossed the bone to get us yakking while they escape into the night. For this humongous, poverty inducing amount spent on a quest for industrial infrastructure I hope we will be getting more than a rail line but technology transfer as well. No deal should be signed going forward without the clause enabling us to maintain them. The evil drama of the refineries come to mind. If we cannot maintain these trains by ourselves, we are in big, big, trouble. |
Digitalwitch:Decency has. |
bluefilm:Most PG students I knew back in the day had politics and any sort of activism at the far, far, far back of their minds. As a matter of fact you will struggle to get admitted without industry or enterprise experience so who has time for this crap., and you donot expect career academics expanding their frontiers to jump into this sort of mud pit. Anyway everthing has gone to the dogs these days. |
48...and still playing around with toys and throwing tantrums here and there. Something is not right here. |
Airline business is no business. Their life expectancy in Nigeria is roughly a decade. |
Tales of the black man. Sons of Edom who simply cannot organise themselves. Where two or three black men are gathered, nothing positive ever occurs. |
My own stand on mercenaries is very simple. It is not a long term solution, as it is not sustainable. The results are uncertain at best and the after effects on institutions are worse. It is like hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles. We can see that success is not a given if the overall operations remain under the control of the military and while better training g and equipment can rub off positively at the lower and mid echelons of the military, it will worsen the morale and competence at the very top. Just like foreign coaches do. They improve players, demoralise local coaches and make the NFF lazy. This is not a clear win situation though it may have instant, positive though temporary results. Another down side, like the Lagos state/Alpha Beta scenario and other private ventures into 'government business', it is hotbed for massive corruption. As the mercenaries have said. They baulk at scrutiny and publicity. Good for operations. Bad for probity. And this can easily lead to a round tripping of violence. The kind we all often postulate. That the war has become business. I personally think if mercenaries are to be used it must have seriously protected terms of reference as to what, where, in, out and exactly how much it will cost. There will be a lot of careful considerations. Our institutions must not be corroded by their activities because we will not be able to keep them forever. They must not be allowed to operate with our military. Rather they should be given independent, designated operations to capture or kill specific individuals to force this amorphous group to the table. Not necessarily to 'win this war'. Because this war cannot be won by attrition only. |
Mauricio Sarri has been touted on one platform to take over from Mikel should the poor results continue and knowing Arsenal's legendary poor Christmas form, expect serious turbulence at the Emirates in months to come. |
Guess no one is calling him 'Twitter Senator' now. Guess they now wish folks like him were in office to ask serious questions of goverment. Guess they can see they have been abandoned by the 'yes' men they fought so hard to instal. Guess they can see that it is those dethroned that are performing the functions of those elected and paid handsomely. Guess who laughs last... The vast majority of Nigerians are so ignorant about how goverment can be made to work for their own good. You can have your friends in the Executive, but please have your enemies in the Legislature. You may love fast cars. It is total folly to remove the brakes because by nature they might slow you down. |
He may be right but for the Head of a Military organisation to come out publicly like this ahead of the President's proposed visit to the House is balsy. He has played Mr. Buhari's hand and this could spark serious trouble for this government. In normal climes he will almost certainly be removed. |
Ah, just heard about the Qatari cash....hmmm... |
Lovely.... What will become of our economy by then...hopefully not junk status... |
Just give him his toys to calm him down...dats all... |
Revolva:That is caused by disuse. Signs of dereliction and abandonment. When you live your house unoccupied for a while the bugs and rodents take over. If the place was chock-a-block with blue chip companies, the government will have no option than to 'fumigate' the entire place and won't mind wholesale evacuation of downtown 'Isale Eko'. LASG looks at the place today and cannot see what it brings in to require social maintenance. |
It is caused by the steady decline of the Nigerian economic outlook over time. When economies shrink people usually find ways to downsize and cut costs, closing businesses and moving away to cheaper digs. If we had successive solid rebounds after economic recessions then new businesses requiring new property will always spur a renewal. Unfortunately this is not the case in Nigeria. We never seem to rebound to previous levels of wealth after national economic woes so it has been one lomg tale of dis-investment. It is the economy and the Marina/Broad street has been the poster boy for 'Economy Nigeria' just as Manhattan is in New York or Canary Wharf in London. What you see of Marina is the real state of Nigeria. Its best days are behind. Its peak was in the 70's and late 80"s. Everything since then has been artificial, escapist, smoke and mirrors. |
I have written a long piece about this whole things many, many years ago. About the only country on earth that gained nothing, absolutely nothing from its signatory war, from its civil war. Not a single lesson learnt, not an iota of development or innovation in any sphere of life. Everything about Nigeria has been on a steady decline since 1971 when the war ended. As if the war never ended.... because it has never really ended. The Nigeria state is still at war against its own, a defacto war still rages against the East. And I always tell people this. No nation remaining divided can ever prosper. And I will say this whether anyone like a it or not. The East which stood alone to fight Nigeria will stand alone as the only solution to bring this nation back to any sort of development. I say this with every conviction in my heart. This is coming from a non-Easterner. Nigeria just smells the need to get the East in charge of the affairs of this country for it to get back to working. The signs are just everywhere for the learned and discerned to see. Von Braun leads the light as the post World War 2 scientist hurriedly cleared by the Nuremberg tribunal by the Americans so he could work on their rocket programming. It was Von Braun's rocketry that pushed the Americans ahead of the Russians and all the away to the moon. Many, many other German born scientists on both sides of the Iron Curtain fast tracked the development of America and the Soviet Union and made them the super powers that they are today. Nigeria we hail thee. The only country on earth to gain absolutely nothing from its own war 'to end all wars'....absolutely nothing. One of the main reasons why we are where we are today... Once more. Read my lips. Until the easterners are embraced and put at the front and centre of the 'Nigeria Project', we simply cannot make the progress we need to becoming developed. |
I thought number one, two and three should be: * Repent for helping to instal bad governments that I flee from...and promise never, ever to do it there should I eventually obtain the right to vote....actually you should never have that opportunity ahgain, ever. |
I vividly remember back then....the 2 billion naira theft sounding huge, unbelievably massive amount for a single person to have stolen from such an organisation. These days 2 billion may not even reflect as missing. The really big thefts are now in tens of billions. Guess inflation and currency depreciation is playing with our minds and standing as defence attorney for these criminals. If he was asked to refund the said amount will the courts adjust for inflation and depreciation because the original figure is worth a lot less in real terms. That is the very bad side of corruption in a mismanaged economy.... double jeopardy. |
I totally agree. Revenue needs to be raised. But Nigerians will be the most foolish people on earth if they do not extract something in return. As much as government badly needs revenue Nigerians badly need a cut in the cost of organising society, aka cost of governance. That is the condition for prosperity. You work harder and waste less and then you see poverty squeezed in the middle. That is how individuals, companies, organisations and even nations extricate themselves from poverty, bankruptcy and other economic ills. You cannot continue ruling over us all flaunting illegitimate, obscene trappings of office. It is the one bug that causes the infection of crime. Riches in the midst of poverty. The crime we are all suffering for. |
Forget eyes please. You will quickly tire of that. What is in the head? what is the character?, the disposition to life? Eyes will eventually wrinkle, or can turn red with stress and grief, beauty will fade, the only thing that grows is character either for the better or worse. What matters in a man or woman is what cannot be seen. Tell us about that. |
StacyO:What is the purpose of a wig if not to deceive eh?....probably been saving one poor lad since September. Even 'be yourself', 'love yourself' MOT Speakers on the pulpit are heavily 'sedated'. Okay enough....before the ladies come for my hypocritical head.... asking why it finds itself in a barbers shop once a while.... such lame comparison though... |
Openbusiness:They look a really good team, solid in all departments.... perhaps except the dugout. I feel when Lamp comes against some of those wily ol gaffers at the latter stages he could be out foxed despite his classic tools. Still looks a bit wet behind the ears if you ask me. Good job though. |
Superjazz:Okay sir. If you have no solution and have totally lost hope then just leave the forum and stop commenting. Discourse is for people who see light in darkness. The grave is for those who have come to an end. Fights are for the living. Great nations ate products of great fights not for prisoners of hopelessness. What I do on this forum on every matter important to Nigeria is to criticise poor, inadequate or improper superintending of society and then proved solutions for those wellmeaning people to take up and pursue. My messages are for fighters for a better society. |
Nukilia:Send send, send....to do what exactly. To set up roadblocks to every farm and wait for the next attack. How long will that take and at what cost.? Isn't is far easier just to push through legislation to decentralise police operations to have a permanent police presence in those localities, trained equipped and funded locally to fit the peculiarities of those places in terms of intelligence, speed of action and anti crime strategies....? |
We have been speaking for many, many years about the need to decentralise the police architecture of Nigeria but naive citizens have always resisted counting on the fears of local political influences on law enforcement. The long delay in getting ahead of criminal activities at the grassroots will continue to cost lives for years to come. Folks often seek to compare our system to that of central controlled British system as opposed to the regionally and locally controlled multilayered American system when it is clear Britain is more like just a region of Nigeria by way of size and demography. It is like saying the American leader George Washington should be concerned and superintend over the capture or killing of cattle rustlers or a shop robber in far away Texas. That is just unimaginably complicated, horrendously expensive and a sure, never to work system. If we cannot have Texas Rangers in Kogi, I'm afraid more and more lives will be lost. Mr. President and his Inspector General will never be able to handle it. Ever. It is too far, too complex and too expensive to work. That is the present system of government. |
They cannot do without those compressed calorific bombshells called puddings aka 'swallow'. It is the primary cause of belly fat. |
lexy2014:Long time ago mister. Didn't you see him umpire the fight between Ganduje and Probity in Kano during the campaigns. Whose hand did be raise in declaring the winner. Since then have you heard him make public announcements on anything corruption? That ship has long sailed. |
