Good development. They should just run commercial for now. There is no point running a passenger service. It is not presently viable. Once more. The grand plan has to involve completing the Lagos - Ibadan Highway and tolling it to share the traffic. If not the rail line will become a white elephant. It is obvious it was too costly to build from a commercial stand point and this is because it has scant local content. Now that we have done this one can we begin to turn our attention to the infrastructure that reduces the cost of buildingnew infrastructure. We havbecement covered. But without a viable steel and petrochemical industries we will not be able to deliver or deploy critical, fixed infrastructure in a timely, affordable manner. Get Ajaokuta working please. If only to produce tracks, sleepers, fish plates and spikes for the next two decades, Nigeria will be covered completely by rail lines affordable ones. |
9jaBlogger:Filthy, disgusting things calling themselves human beings. Abia people are so docile, so idle, so ignorant. Their government leads them by the nose ring like cattle claiming insufficiency and marginalisation as the basis for so much decay, poverty and under development and here you have its agents, its employees, people claiming to serve at tax payers expenses openly displaying debauchery and wanton decadence. If the people do not storm Government House and demand for nusticethen they are doomed. This is just a test by the devil to see he much hurt a people can take. If nothing g happens and the government goes scot free then it is over as far as governance is concerned because much worse will happen. The people should show in no uncertain terms that they will not accept this and any excuse by government of insufficiency because they have seen bare faced wastage and gross indiscipline. |
lymelyte:Well, the coach of the reigning Champions League winners is one replacing the coach of the former Champions League winners after beating another German coached team in the final in PSG. You must admit that the German game is presently in vogue after nearly a decade and a half of Spanish posession oriented Tiki Taka which unfortunate Arteta struggles to morph into his team that neither has the ball holders for that or the high energy pressers of the German game. His technics are between and betwix, confusing both players, opponents and their fans as well. |
BigSarah:They know there is very little unity. You don't preach to the converted. And they know they themselves are the prime agents of disunity. But they must push their agendas through no matter whose ox is gored. They think they own Nigeria and the rest must conform to their image and vision for Nigeria. Never seen such arrogance. |
mansakhalifa:Then they should go for a German coach. Germany rules the soccer world right now on the pitch and dugout. Their work ethic is legendary. They will lick these sorry lads into some sort of shape or die trying. |
I don't easily get worked up or moved by anything but this is just disgusting, annoying and totally regrettable. The Government of Kaduna State and the Federal Government which I repeat again, arrogate to themselves the sole authority and resources to command and control the security architecture of Nigeria.... WHAT IS HAPPENING? WHY THIS MESS. WHAT KIND OF NONSENSE IS THIS.? If you are not complicit. TAKE ACTION NOW!!! |
Ekaka1:Yep, let them hang on. Maurizio Sarri is coming to the rescue with 'Sarriball' to the Emirates. |
Arteta hmmm... will you survive the New Year?...with Arsenal's traditional winter woes...coming with Santa. |
saxby:Hmmm...Women and 'swallow'. Hate them with a passion. It takes hours of cardio to burn. There is no better carb out there than rice. A lot easier to control. Yam comes second with seasoned veggies since I do not like sweet potatoes. |
Hahahahaha....they have collected everything from their children's children to the nth generation and now they want to collect everything from their parents and grand parents to 'build infrastructure' the likes of which we have never seen before... 17 trillion for 'heavenly infrastructure' it must be. The development of so called infrastructure that does not stimulate the economy but further depresses the exchange rate and triggers capital flight through foreign exploitation is inherently evil. Everywhere in the world except Nigeria infrastructural investment is a catalyst for economic stimulus and developement because businesses are born, industrial production is demanded and local hands are employed. But in our case all the worthy jobs and industrial products go to China, India, Germany and Lebanon. How can we spend our prime dollar this way and hope to escape economic slavery, misery and doom. You simply donot take a loan to pay a driver to take you round for job interviews. The first thing you do when you lose you job is to learn how to drive. Help yourself first before you can be helped. The Lagos-Ibadan rail line fares are a pointer to the limitations of so called infrastructure when a people are either roo lazy to help themselves or too proud to work. The humongous cost must be recovered. Look eh. With two twilight years left in goverment 17 trillion cannot be born out of vision but should be in the final stages of remission. Whatever has not be done cannot be done. Whatever has not worked will not work till their time is over. |
He was speaking His Will to the Word and His Will to the Spirit of God. The Word is the custodian of all life. If a thing is to exist it must be Word first. The Spirit is the executor of the Word, the Maker of things. The expression of life. |
There are certain things is best left to God to teach on His own. Grace is one of them. Man will always co!our this topic in his own image. Grace is a tailor made virtue of God that doesn't not have a one view fits all. Taken literally like Joseph Prince often seeks to do will lead may to err. The subject of grace is one in which Christians GROW into. It is better to let the Holy Spirit lead people in this. |
edoairways:If this is real then prisons in this country should be filled with the so called academia. But then won't the entire system collapse?. Without restructuring Nigeria is going no where. Thus country is on the precipice... |
Keep up the pressure CNG. That is the only way to get anything done by government who have monopoly, sole proprietorship of all the security machinery this nation can muster, from law enforcement to military defence. They claim to be in charge and aggregate to themselves so much power and resources. They cannot look elsewhere to blame and point fingers. They badly wanted to govern so they have it. |
aviara:He is not an economist. In this scenario the best he can do is to 'organise the proper people' to handle the economy. So his superintending over the economy is not hands on but administrative only and that will have limited success. |
Lovely. We have talked about all these for many, many years but lovers of the status quo say, none of your business. We love it just the way it is....so... |
Do you vote in a monarchy...? |
Zeesugar:What are the specific skill sets he brings to the government that makes him a prime candidate. What is he good at that will add value to government or change the drift or narrative about ...that perhaps no other candidate can muster. What is his vision for this country, or is he just good at 'organising people to do things'. So far his body language reads that he feels Nigeria is running well and only requires tweaking resource management to bring her into a 21 century of peace and prosperity. Has not really said much else. Looks like an establishment man. Steady with the status quo. Shake no tables, ruffle no feathers... Can Nigeria be made to work like that? |
Who is the 'we'..... Thought you said you were not in office, not in power and could not be held accountable for this government's malfaescence and not a beneficiary of government largesse. So by what authority do your speak this way. |
Hope he didn't carry any infectious diseases there. These isolated tribes have little or no immunity against the pestilence we play around with in the open, interconnected world. One bad move and its curtains for all of them wholesale. They should be left alone except for the gospel on a very long leash. |
Obere4u:Yeah. Most long grain rice comes from the US. Grew up eating the great 'Uncle Ben's. Do you know that 85 percent of the rice sold in the US is produced locally there. American rice remains the best in my honest opinion. But we've retired from all that. The calorific content is far too high. Settled for the extra polished stuff which tastes like cardboard, but what can we do. Got to watch the waistline. |
stealmatic:'Those that' is a simple expression to refer to a distinct set of people. It doesn't refer to you, to the poster in question or to Oyo State. The text is directed to those who do so as it were 'in tears'. It is simple scriptural grammatical expression.. |
ibnlawal:Quite understandable. But the law must be fair to the grieving, offended party too. A lack of empathy and justice for them will only engender a culture of self-help which we must extricate from our society. It is a catch 22 scenario. |
I can guarantee this. If you guys are not willing to pay a reasonable fare for that train service, it won't exist in the next decade. It is increasingly looking like a white elephant if government does not step in and equalise the cost of alternative means of transport, is. toll the expressway. Clearly a feasibility study was not conducted not to talk of a business plan for its development. The figures do not add up. Nigeria is set to be saddled with huge debts from which the investment simply will not be able to sustain. Not a good advert for private sector involvement. Once more we are caught between socialism and poverty. |
Hmmmm....next is to move against green bottles and end up door to door looking for 'sinners'...lovely.. |
naijadrivablog:Don't worry. Three or four toll gates on the expressway will rebalance the equation. The toll gates will subsidise the train service. There are many ways to skin a cat. |
naijadrivablog:But the reverse is the case right now because while the train service is clearly an investment, road transport infrastructure remains a social service by government. But this can quickly change if the government wants to protect is economic basket. Presently government spends a horrendous amount maintaining and upgrading roads. You can ask Fashola about that. It will not stand and see an equally expensive investment in the rail line go white elephant, belly up and I will be darned if it will agree to pay subsidies on passenger tickets while at the same time maintaining for instance the Lagos - Ibadan expressway at such high cost. My guess is that as soon as the expressway is out of rehab it will be tolled and perhaps high enough charges to drive traffic to the rail services which is a win for government in reduced wear and tear which has always been a key reason for the rail line anyway. However what government should realise ultimately is that passenger rail transport is not sustainable anywhere in the world. The great railways of India, Russia, Kenya and America have passenger services which on their own do not make money. Rather it is in combination with freight services they are able to stay in the black and offer an affordable service. To get that in Nigeria thus, the entire national rail network has to be completed so that the Dangotes, BUA's, Coca-Cola's, MRS's of this country can transport their cement, drinks, fuels and other sundry goods to subsidise the cost of passenger fares. It is they who will repay these humongous loans. It is to them these introductory services should have been targetted. But they donot generate the kind of propaganda a government like this desires so it has its priorities mixed up. The British did not build the African rail network for tourism. It was built for exploitation. That cold hard fact is the key to success here. Railroads or any other subsidies on transport anywhere on earth as social service only leads to bankruptcy. |
This has been my annoying but absolutely true assertion that the airline business is non functional in Nigeria. It is this exact reason why airlines donot survive here. Poverty. Poverty. Poverty. The endgame of this train service is that it will either operate almost empty and fold up soon or it will reduce prices to attract passengers and run at a loss....meaning subsidies...meaning another NNPC refinery drama in time to come. Has anyone asked what happened to the old Nigeria Railway Corporation....how it all ended...because trains did not just start running in Nigeria in 2016. I grew up running trains to grade school and we used them to journey for our annual military exercises. |
What is wrong with you folks. You shout train!, train!, we want train! eh. Now Nigeria has mortgaged the future of her children's children to give you train. Billions of dollars in debt and you want to be paying 500 naira....one miserable dollar. How much of one dollar will buy diesel, how much will pay staff, how much will pay for maintenance....how much will start paying debt. You folks better get real. If you are all too poor to go by train then there is no hope whatsoever of development.... kai, this is serious. Has this become a white elephant already...kai...kai....were there no economists involved in the planning...? |
inoki247:Loans brother, loans in dollars. Debts must be paid in full and you certainly donot expect me who will never ride that train to shoulder the cost. |
Wow. What a loss. One of the few, absolutely few, great soldier-gentlemen. Much respect. |
