I don't think all these stories will amount to much. If there are corpses with gunshot wounds I don't think they will be available as evidence of any government misdeeds. They will either have been buried or cremated long ago. What should happen and what happens in other climes is investigative journalism. First to determine WHO DID WHAT and then extract information from them directly or their friends, families or associates to build a picture through and through about what happened. Someone out there has a bit part information, when puzzled together will make for clarity as to the events and dispel any untruths or half truths. No matter how tightly the government wants to control the flow of information it is impossible to contain everyone directly or indirectly involved particularly non government actors or indirect participants. All these 'he said', 'she did', 'I've seen' will get no where and is murky and disputable at best. The information is out there and all it takes is hardworking, dogged and clandestine journalism to put these things to bed once and for all. |
If you donot have the facts then say so when accosted, period. If it is an embarassing situation then remain silent. Jumping to conclusions is the worst thing you can do. It shows poor judgement and bias because things said cannot be retracted. |
Its like Pep's game strat is beginning to wear thin. This team is no longer damn scary. |
These are the times where great statesmen emerge. Not when times are good but in tough times. They are VISIBLE, AUDIBLE and show themselves strong in the face of the cries, the fears, the worries of their people. They move mountains because they love those they lead and where they have exhausted all the resources, all the wisdom, all the might they can muster they INSPIRE and MOTIVATE the people to come along, go above and beyond to survive, to achieve and to thrive. That is leadership. That is how Adolph Hitler was able to mobilise a Five Million strong army virtually out of the ashes of World War One to overthrow almost all of western Europe in a flash. The people were ready to die for him. That was how Winston Churchill was able to rescue the armies of 4 nations at Dunkirk from total destruction, motivate the dogged defence of the skies over Britain and return again in 1944 to defeat the Nazis. He believed. He never stopped talking and walked the talk. Where is that kind of leadership here? Whoever it is should stand to be counted. Nigeria needs him right now. We don't need stories or excuses about the Barbarians banging at the gates. We know. |
Golan007:Oga. Governments are not elected just to exist. They are not elected like most of you think to demonstrate some tribal, sectional or religious satisfaction. Governments are elected to secure and prosper the people who place them there. There is no excuse for failure. If people are worse off in anyway the government has failed. Trump has gone because of the way he handled the virus pandemic, race relations and many, many other things HE DID NOIT CAUSE. So to lay up negative events as a shield for poor response, poor handling and eventually poor outcome is a subscription to future failure. Every government elected subsequently will then have an excuse to fail and democracy becomes meaningless because there will always be challenges. That is life. As a matter of fact it is great difficulties that make for great leadership. Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Mahatma Ghandi will never be forgotten, not for the good times but for how they handled the worst times in the history of those nations they served. Today we and our kids love our Superman, Batman, Spiderman, James Bond, Ethan Hunt's because the human spirit appreciates those who rise to daring challenges and overcome great adversity. Look young man. This present set of leaders have the greatest post independence opportunity to write their names for all eternity in the annals of true Nigerian heroes because of the adversity they face. DONOT GIVE THEM THE REASON TO SQUANDER IT by cultivating excuses or only infamy will be left. That is a sure word of legacy. |
Who uses wood in houses these days anyway.... It is just so wrong. |
Hmmm....Mr. Picnic. We fully understand the cost of contractual breaches but we will also like to see the counter performance criteria and minimum standards expected in the same agreement. Or he was employed to just go do what he likes. |
Lovely. Hope you folks are enjoying your government. Hardship will restructure Nigeria. That is a certainty. |
SafeArch:Tragic comedy. I won't say it did not make me laugh. I would be totally dishonest. By this politics in Nigeria is finally, officially announced as a wealth earner, asset grower and globally accepted collateral. |
Weeks after the protests it is clear "the cup has passed over' the police service and the government of Nigeria. Nothing has happened and nothing will happen to change anything fundamentally. The status quo is back and the degradation of society is off pause. |
Let me ask any and every Nigerian out there observing all these one question. If ALL 36 governors, 90 or so senators and God knows how many Representatives were all from the ruling APC, what will have fundamentally changed for the better in Nigeria today. Why is the is the quest to have a one party state so central to the belief of some folks out there fundamental to the peace and prosperity of Nigeria?... |
robosky02:They claim they have. If they don't they can ask FIFA for help. FIFA has outstanding affiliates and technical advisers in a variety of disciplines from tournament organisation, hosting to technical assistance in umpiring and coaching. They havr helped us in the past, in the kate eighties or early nineties if memory serves me right. They are always keen to help developing countries improve the game. We only have to be professional about it and sincere. |
More and more capital flight. Doesn't this go against the 'closed border' policy of goverment to ease the rampaging balance of trade... THE PERSONALISATION OF GOVERNMENT. As long as it suits the interest of one particular person or a powerful group of people, the interests of the nation can go to blazes. |
The solution is simple. Call all the shortlisted coaches. Pay their flight and boarding. Give them each an NPFL top team and let them play a round robin tournament under the keen eye of the Technical Department. Whoever wins the mini tournament gets the job. Our national team job is too important for oral interviews, baloney claims and backyard dealings. Prove your worth on the field over the course of a few weeks and let us all decide 'how far'. That is how I run my business to get the best hands. I am not interested in your paper. I put you in a life fire scenario and observe performance. Whoever comes out unscathed gets it, period. If we had done so we will have seen the ridiculous on field shortcomings of this Rohr before saying 'I do'. |
seunmsg:Oga. That of Cross-River is of geo-political origin. Has nothing to do with the religious colouration this one has taken. Akwa-Ibom and Cross-River states have a lot of issues between them. The purge on both sides of the divide has been rumbling on for decades now and explodes in every administration when deep seated, fundamental issues of politics and governance arise. |
noble99:Not by the raw data. And we have employed most of the biggest names in Nigerian soccer at various times over the years, ex internationals, soccer administrators, top club gaffers, the whole lot from veterans like Disu, Onigbinde and the late Amoudu to greenhorns like Amokachi and Oliseh, Only Keshi was able to bring the Cup home. Though the half dozen foreigner managers have had equally mixed results they still hold 66 percent success. |
Georgejeez:The evidence is 2 cups for expats and 1 for indigenous talent, so... it is a balance between 'to build' and 'for sale'. You will never find a consensus on this in Nigeria without a 'National Philosphy'. |
We should always strive to have the best of what we can afford. The Rohr experiment is not productive and farm from being successful. Bench marked against Otto Gloria and Clemens Westerhof it is just not good enough. He should be let go but should complete the qualifiers. I cannot see this team beating the likes of Senegal and Algeria. Nigeria are traditional medalists on the continent. These days we are barely hanging on. There are better materials out there in Europe. |
The tales of liberalism. It always has a price. |
If they want to project equity they should organise mining to the same standards and framework as the oil and gas industry, through open bidding and with international conglomerates involved. As long as it continues to be shady and done shoddily there will always be demands for equity and justice. The Federal Goverment either raises the threshold of the mineral industry or lowers the threshold of the oil and gas industry. If not south state governors may as well involve themselves in bunkering activities claiming simularly to be 'buying off crude to prevent proceeds from thr hands of militants'. We really need to restructure this country. The level of injustice is really piling on the wood for a big bonfire to come. I hope this country will be able to recover from the next public rumpus. |
If an individual like me had concluded the ananlysis of all what we see today economically (and all what we will be seeing in months and a few years to come) since mid-february and taken the rght steps to mitigate the effects in my own little corner and business how much more a whole nation filled with experts and a goverment at their service. But they don't care about good governance so I don't care how insolvent they get. I am pressing ahead with phase 2 which is a strategic study of where the end of the pit we have fallen into is. Where I can make a killing on cheap assets. Yes, I want to prey on the broke and stupid and the goverment has just raised its hand. Since wide scale vaccine deployment is targetted for 2021 Q1 we can expect goverment to start crawling out of misery by Q2 on the back of crude oil recoveries. Hope to clean out before then. |
Lovely. You can only eat food when it is cooked over fire. Nigerians will not accept the only way out until they are run over hot coals. Very soon they will be begging to restructure but alas it will br too late. |
Bellotelli:Don't mind them. The joke is on the south. The south-east press for restructuring or secession, their biggest antagonists are from the south west, the south west want state policing their biggest mockers are from the south east. South-south governors met recently to counter the moves by a northern state to appropriate the natural resources found in its domain and guess where the most vocal opposition to the gathering came from. Nigeria is just a dysfunctional entity fit only as a crab bucket. The real tower of Babel. All those frothing in the mouth above should show us what they stand for and support to succeed beyond the door steps of their houses....nothing. |
No. We are exempted. Nothing in the policy, merhodology and mission statement not already practiced in the military. |
And it goes on in its 4th year as a new normal, without a solution in sight in a state that boasts the largest number of military formations in Nigeria. What again is the definition of hopeless.... |
In the Westerhof years you could feel an upward, positive improvement year on year cumulating in our first world cup appearance and highest ranking of an African team in history. Teams like Cameroun which we could not just obtain results against we began to beat. The fear factor against North African teams vanished. That is what a so called expat should bring in, a complete change of mindset and narrative. What can we say has fundamentally changed for the better about our National team since the late Stephen Keshi brought the Cup home...nothing apart from the 'mulatto-ing' of the squad. Great for photo-ops and kit launches but the weather beaten, cold, ugly, rugged faces of the late 80's and 90's still takes the cake any day. They may not have European blood and played for fancy European clubs but you could not question their commitment anytime they stepped on the field of play. It was war, war, war. |
TellBlazer:If the team was doing well you need not ask. Our national game has stagnated. It will be a major surprise if this team is able to match the last that got to the cup finals. |
As usual, huffing and puffing in a group of minnows instead of over the hills and far away like Senegal, the real deal. In a hair's breadth they will all turn to 'Super Statisticians' from Super Eagles with Benin in the rear view mirror. |
elshanAutos:Only rocket technology, but are far behind in applied rocketry. Even the UK beats them in that. I once again lay this emphasis. Is there anything that Russia excels in that is not military or confrontational....nothing. Their anointing is for war and war alone. |
Hmmm....Raytheon....the baddest defence industry that ever liveth. They sleep, wake and live end of days... |
mechanics:On whose part, the promoters or the authorities. On which side of the law do you stand?... or you wish to side with some who want the country law free... everyone living by his or her own standards, aka anarchy. We tasted a few days of democracy by the hoodlums and most Nigerians were running for the hills... |
This is the kind of Abuja we want. Developmental control is doing a great job striking terror into those who are hellbent in making the city an anthill. Like what they did in Utako village. But like an anthill the termites are slowly coming back. Thr place is gradually returning to its shanty status. |
