Chujor1634:For what na.... training the Army Rangers in urban warfare or test the newly acquired Airfirce gunship's weapons systems ? You have heard the building is a death trap. The question you should be asking is why the structure (mind the pun) of goverment is so defective such that the politician gets involved in implementation of policy leading to shoddy jobs while the civil servant who should be ensuring these project are prooerky delivered are busy playing politics. If the nation was properly organised and structured these collosal waste will be avoided. They popularly say that those who have little often manage better. Very few look into the reasons for having little in the first place. |
Where two or three black men are gathered nothing positive ever gets done? |
Not the same people. Except she had cheek bone surgery as well. The proportions of the face are different. |
okpukpu:Even the most rudimentary of persons on that sit will become a hero. Surely it simply cannot be as bad as this. |
Charly68:We had a far better option on the other side of the political divide in 2015 but sentiment played a good hand so here we are. Once more you donot go chasing after burglars at the expense of your business. Those of us in business know that. But most of us love to learn by hardship. They said they did not want the combination of a career administrator and businessman and a career banker and solid economic adminstrator, so why didn't they demand these qualities in the ones they elected.... They instead left them to their own devices having witnessed their first half antecedents. What on earth were we expecting will happen.... |
And why may I ask is this not spurring agricultural productivity. It just doesn't add up and I suspect other factors are responsible for out of control commodity prices. Farm gate prices may actually be collapsing due to low uptake. We are in for one hell of a ride. Nigeria, one of the few countries that do not play by any book of economics. |
Gamesmart:Oga. Everyehere in the world the coach of any team sport is responsible for the outcome of the game. He decides who plays and who does not. He decides the preparation, tactics and game management. If a student fails examinations he is to blame. If the entire class fails then the teacher is to blame. In all of team sport a match cannot be won by any one single person neither cannot be lost by any single action or individual. In team sports its alk about collective success and collective failure so the responsibility lies with those who prepare the team and guide them. |
NwokoloOwa:This is exactly what I say. I am not inflation averse as a result of taxation or subsidy cuts but where are the positive indices resulting from these high risk, high stress strategies. If we have elected for painful surgery after years of drawn out, ineffectual chemotheraphy then we should be seeing almost instant results. Some things should be getting better quickly whether in statistics or reality. The reality is however with the structure of goverment and of the country that whatever we 'save' by subsidy removal or 'gain' by additional taxation is lost to the same forces that put us in this position in the first place. |
Without equity and justice society is just a runaway nuclear reaction. No one knows how to control the fallout or where it will all end. That is why those entrusted with the tools of governance must ensure that society maintains a balance. |
Been seeing these stories for quite a while and my summation is clear. Umahi should join the APC. The PDP doesn't need him rather Nigeria needs the south east in the APC particularly those with a chip on their shoulder, performers and men of relative integrity. I am afraid the so called ranking members today of eastern extraction in the APC are completely useless to both sides of the equation. They can neither be trusted to push the agenda of Nigeria to the region or pull the easterners into mainstream, centrist Nigeria because they have sorely compromised themselves for so long, doing some of the most reprehensible things in politics in the past. The APC needs a breathe of fresh eastern air which Umahi amongst very few can provide. If Nigeria is to be restructured there has to be lines of communication between all stakeholders, if Nigeria is to have a President of Eastern extraction he must get 24 states. No one can succeed in Nigeria without solidarity and as long as the opposition PDP is not ready to market itself more widely, building more bridges and exploring wider territories to conquer, it is more than necessary for the APC to take the initiative for this country to move forward after 8 years of downward spiral. |
bjayx:Stripping the story of all its wonder and banter, this is the real tragedy of the black man, sentiment. He will still 'do it' despite all he has seen and sadly, experienced. The fact that folks like these are the demographic deciders in national elections just paints a very bleak future. If we cannot restructure this country to instal an electoral college or put an equal representative system in place, there is little hope of getting the right people into power. You can imagine fellows like these deciding leadership in Nigeria for decades to come....hmmm... |
MossadAgent:Oga, if you have not witnessed an event don't try and be so convincing. Blank ammunition is not benign. That gunpowder you speak of ignites and the gas produced has enough force to peel open the copper jacket. Particulates come through at blazingly hot temperature and can peel the skin right off. 1985, combat ambush simulation in Minna. A guy emerged from cover a few yards to my left and took a blank round flush in the face from about 5 yards. It blew off his helmet and sent him hurtling back. Later in the day we went to see him at medic and his whole face, shoukder and upper chest was in gauze. It had burnt through his pouches, webbing and fatigues. It was bad, very bad. I don't know what is used in movie making or what the military buys these days but I had used blanks for years, hundreds of rounds and I can tell you for certain that they are not toys. I have seen many, many injuries. |
Silly General. I too have used blank ammunition for years in training and have seen first hand the damage it can do. It is lethal at close range and will do severe tissue damage within a 5 metres envelope. Had scars on my back for several years and many colleagues had severe injures during training. He knows little about 7.62mm blank ammunition. They are not toys. |
I hope the political scorecard is being ticked so that when their hallucinations take them to the ballot for higher office is will be reviewed and aptly rewarded with a resounding thumbs down. A chicken at the state level will not become an eagle at the centre. When leaders are elected they comitt themselves to the security of even foreigners thoughtless of citizens, they have a duty of care to prisoners thoughtless of the law abiding. |
But with the Portharcourt flyover stories several days ago you need to see the bile spilled on this forum against the State and Government of Rivers. What is different here. |
Any felon tried there may actually be getting a better deal. |
Images, video or whatever is not in good taste. The persons involved donot reflect the seriousness of the situation nor the honour of the person involved. Quite senseless and distasteful if you ask me. As if he"s being toyed with. |
Aboguede:Then they go to one discrepit village and give a few folks N20,000 that will be worth N10,000 by the time they attempt to spend it. Hahaha...the joke is on Nigerians. Next time seek those who have ideas of how to develop nations. |
You don't create diseases just to pasteur medication. It is sinister to destroy the economy just to give out pittance. The welfarist nations you seek to copy have a strong economy as the backbone of their actions. The consider high inflation as sacrilegious. The proportion of the poor to the rest of society and the general wealth gap is their yardstick for success. That is what we consistently preach to goverment, trade unions, the Central Bank and other institutions that are blinded to the need for qualitative economic progress as a panacea to rampaging poverty. This is not just a drop of water in a bucket but into a hot, scalding bucket of a country and that drop will vaporize in an instant. |
Still a coup plotter who will not let the typical African country develop on its own by consensus. It has to be led by the nose ring like cattle. String his type together over the course of a thousand years and Africa will still remain backward, a people that simply cannot organise the!selves around collectively agreeable values. His high praises is an attestation to Africa's hopelessness. Sit back and think about it for a minute. Is there anything he did that people could not do for themselves. What is wrong with this continent? |
Here we go again. Useless leadership not fit for any purpose other than pursue sectional agendas. Let the country continue to decay. They don't care. |
And after destroying her business they will be complaining that Nigerians donot pay tax. Who can remember the fable of the goose that lays golden eggs. The folks were so impatient and greedy they decided to slaughter the bird to collect all the eggs at once, not waiting for a daily lay. The same fate befalls this country. While in other climes goverment sees businesses and citizen interests as collaborators in development and treat them with utmost care, here they are cannon fodder to their insatiable appetite for an inordinate proportion of the nations wealth. Everything has an elastic limit. When all businesses fold up, everyone will be on the streets for there will be no where else to go and nothing else to do. |
teadrake:Who serves the government diligently mbok. Abeg make we hear word. Diligently indeed...and this country is like this... Please don't misuse semantics. There is not a single diligent person that will accept to work for government at any level, in any position. |
Nothing wrong with this. Where the sad tale starts is with inflated contracts given to shady merchants that will be poorly executed so the losses are guaranteed meaning that the levies will continue forever. If citizens are given an open and shut case, a lot of folks don't mind even paying for the entire duration be it 3, 5 or 10 years. Here in Nigeria there is zero accountability. Once the government knows the citizens have come to accept this, then they reduce accountability to zero. For instance, has this not been the sad tale of all the fuel price hikes in Nigeria chequered history. Promises are never kept. Going by all the promises made in the heat of past adjustments, by now not a single highway in Nigeria should be unmotorable. So it is not the taxation that matters but the accountability. Do a good job and the people will be happy to comply. |
The Lords visit the lords to sympathise over their miniscule losses while the peons fight each other like crabs in a basket over their decayed, moribund existence. Do these pictures speak of people who have lost anything. They will just be laughing at the miserable citizens. |
Biden101:Nairaland should not be a susbtitute for your history classes. This forum has nothing on the past and is not for those who are interested on how the past affects the present and shapes the future. |
Wow. A great leader is gone. A real leader in the sense of the word, not the senseleas, visionless entities we have today whose only agenda is the personal parochial. He will be missed. |
Said it. Where are those calling for an early end to the protests. You might as well take a half doze of antibacterial or antiviral medication and see the bugs come back at you with a vengeance making your end worse than your beginning. These people know what they are doing. They truncated the protests with violence to scuttle it and the people baulked instead of persisting to get the government to surrender and start implementing the changes demanded. The government and all agents of the status quo held their breathe and are now back in full force to scourge the country. Today they call the protesters terrorists but are not going to find any officer of the law culpable for the issues that matter. No concrete reforms will be made and in a few months we will be back to the 'Nigerian normal'. Today they are more concerned about property destruction but avoid the underlying and more important destruction of the fabric of society. The former can be rebuilt in weeks and months, the latter may take decades of good governance and visionary leadership to overcome. Today the CBN can open its mouth and talk nonsense, a few weeks ago they were dumb. They should have called them terrorists then so we see what will have happened. No, then they were rather calling for 'calm' in abject fear. How did the people of Nigeria so squander such a great opportunity to salvage this country? |
Yusman316:On issues concerning terrorism the government SHOULD NOT be speaking directly to them (those convicted) or offering any lifeboat at this nascent time. It should gather a team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event and do a thorough investigation back here at home before making pronouncements. The last thing the govermemt should be seen doing is taking sides without all the information. It shows a bias and a sympathy towards the problem of terrorism, putting individuals above the subject matter and justifying tjhe suspicion of foreign governments that there is connivance at high levels of government. It is very poor judgement on the part of government and its top officials in this matter. |
Racoon:That was a monumental gaffe of huge security implications and will be a historic millstone around her neck if indeed those incarcerated in the UAE are guilty. When all the facts are not known it is always better to play safe. That is the way sensible politicians act. |
PhiliptheArab:Poor quality citizenship will only reproduce poor quality leadership. The summation of your analysis is that we should be electing leaders on the basis of oil prices. Then we may as well elect the OPEC chairman to be Nigeria's President. QED. |
