But can any who supports this tell me exactly what this trip intends to achieve. I don't think it is the best that could have happened so soon after such a telling incident. Sometimes silence evokes more respect and caution power. There is really nothing we should be saying to them right now. I mean what if violence breaks out next week, next month, next year.... won't this trip look exceptionally bad then.... and this country look exceptionally weak.. |
grandstar:They both have serious personality issues. Guess this is why one should never focus on the individual but the subject matter. If not for the latter I wouldn't recognise them even if they stepped on my toes in a crowded elevator. |
cassidy1996:Honestly. Just sad. Some who may have an iota of sympathy will just become indifferent, wondering whether it is this sort of thing that started the sordid drama.... |
Rotimi47:You watch too much television. The world is far bigger than shows and entertainment. Only a very small fraction of people and places and deeds ever get any sort of recognition. For every Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi there are hundreds of thoysands of capable footballers who wil never make the big screen and earn fame and fortune you so project. Will they kill themselves. They just love what they do and do it for the love of it. Nigerians must begin to love things, love people, love the environment and nature not this dark, greed filled, pride puffed attitude we have that makes us the undesirables most places we go. My friend it is not for money or fame the average scientist works but for the curiosity and the love of excellence. Please elevate your thinking. Not everything in life is for personal gain. |
Rotimi47:Money?... yes indeed you are a Nigerian. Where is the money and the fame in this... kai Nigerians.. ![]() |
decub:Just to hold... or hold onto their prey, that's all. |
Khd95:They bite to hold on. They have no hands... ![]() |
ORIENTATION101:I totally support a fair tax regime but my friend you shoot yourself completely dead, not just in the foot because the average Nigerian spends almost his entire income and I mean individuals and corporate institutions on providing himself with 'public' services. It is the citizen that subsidizes bad governance by paying for infrastructure, security, etc while government at all levels spend more money from oil, loans and yes taxes on itself. The capital expenditure component of goverment spending, the part that assists the average citizen save money has always been a fraction of recurrent expenditure. So if goverment should take more from people by way of taxes it has to take less from the purse for itself and invest more where it expects to reap. I have said it time and again. We need to elect a shrewd business man to run this country for a season to change the narrative around Nigeria's economy thus I supported the Peter Obi candidacy. Friend, if you have to run a successful poultry tell me what comes first, the investment or the sale and ROI ? When you start to ROI how will you divide the proceeds. Will you take 70 percent for your 'recurrent' expenses and reinvest only 30 percent for new birds. Can you sustain and grow like this. Then to make matters worse you employ more staff relevant or not and give everyone a pay rise (new minimum wage) thus increasing the recurrent then you turn to your hapless chickens and ask them to sacrifice themselves more to pay the new wages. What will happen to your business is what will happen to Nigeria soon. Then imagine what happens to you and the poultry business if like Nigeria it is heavily exposed to creditors. Like it or not. This country is facing a financial abyss. Its citizens are too financially weak and traumatised to bail the government out. That is just the fact. |
Viking007:Far from ready. They berate those asking for a better country and hail their oppressors. No shared values amongst citizens. No one knows the way out of this quagmire. Nigeria. The biggest crab bucket ever. |
manontree:Indeed the style may be questionable but the intent is noble. If Fraser Suites is willingly harbouring smuggled goods it tarnishes itself. If management is oblivious of the infraction then it should sack its security staff for collusion. It does itself no favours by blowing this out of proportion because terrorists will be watching and wondering at how easy it could be to smuggle more devious items into a so called top rated hotel seeking to trump the Hilton. |
Collins4u1:Yes. I hope they will. It happens everywhere in the world. No reasonable goverment will tolerate economic sabotage. |
princeakinola1:Hope is not a tangible commodity. It is a spiritual force reserved for an Almighty God that has integrity as his nature, not for the lying, two faced politician who you should whip into line. |
2LESS:That is why we keep on saying that we should uphold institutions rather than the interests of individuals. |
Hacuttie:We told them back then but they said our mouths were smelling. Good thing the internet never forgets and it was live on this forum.... |
otokx:So can you see that your goverment cannot just sustain industrialisation. It cannot work with the productive sector to work around challenges to ensure products are made and jobs are kept at all costs. Shame. Tomorrow it will be complaining about insufficient tax returns while it is unwilling to ensure its economic engine is well oiled and working smoothly. |
[quote author=aminulive post=82787153]Under the Port Reform Programme of 2005 where the Federal Government of Nigeria leased 25 terminals to different port terminal operators, The principle of the agreements reached with the firms is that they would operate the facilities, while the NPA will be responsible for repairs and infrastructural upgrades. That's what you need to understand...[/quoe] Sounds plausible because a tenant ordinarily will not carry out maintenance work on the property he leases thoughtless of upgrades for several obvious reasons. If this was the agreement at lease can we be witnessing another contractual breach and possible litigation by agents of goverment..... |
Swargu:Don't mind them. In a few months President Buhari will have equalled the tenure length of Goodluck Jonathan as President and CEO then the reality check will hit and all the excuses will vaporise and mad resentment will arrive the doorsteps of Aso Rock. The kettle is boiling slowly. |
chosengocap:Recurrent expenditure and debts. That is where all the money goes at all levels of government from the Feds to the local government. And with more MDA's under this dispensation and the new minimum wage, the average citizen is slaving for the welfare of government people. Something is bound to give. Restructuring is the only civil way out. |
Tolls yes, but with concessioned roads. We are in dire need of infrastructure investment companies in Nigeria that can mobilise capital for serious BOT projects. The market is abundant. Too many bad roads, too many vehicles, no competition whatsoever from rail, river and air transport. Definitely a profit banker for the brave. |
acume:But you guys just voted him into power by fire and brimstone only to be complaining shortly after. This is what I just cannot understand with Nigerian citizens and her politicians. So much fanfare, hype and propaganda then a terrible anticlimax after elections. Why are we so daft as a people not to be able to see quality or not before casting our votes. Is this how we run our businesses, homes, vocations? Are we this gullible, ignorant and finicky. |
TechCapon:Indeed Fred Flintstone... |
martowskin1:Hmmm....indeed. The 700,000 may in reality be feeding the 15million or so residents. It will be interesting to see the criteria used in arriving at that figure of 4.5million. |
Angelfrost:Any propelled projectile does damage in two ways: Penetration and Concussion. The first is a function of metallurgy while the latter is a function of mass. Both are incrementally affected by velocity viz calibre and powder size and shape of projectile. In a nutshell a sleek hard nosed bullet travelling at great velocity will probably pass through the body with minimal damage provided it does not hit hard material such as bone or nerve senstive organs. This will be survivable. On the other extreme a sure kill caused by inflicting maximum damage to the body can be achieved by flatening the tip of the bullet, reducing the grain (powder) quantity to slow the bullet down amd increasing the calibre. This results in a far greater spread of impact force, less deeper penetration and terrible organ and tissue damage barely survivable. Kevlar is a proprietary material that is made up of tightly bound, ultra strong fibres that can withstand great shock loads without compromise. Though it is inelastic, it is however flexible. The latter is good for concealment and adaption but the problem with flexibility is that the shock loads it ably resists is transferred almost entirely to the medium beyond it. If that medium is your body, it will take the entire kinetic energy of the bullet. If it is a high calibre or high velocity round you will be clearly knocked off your feet and in most cases suffer bad internal injuries. Zero penetration perhaps but terrible underlying trauma. The military community uses the best body armour (because they face the best weaponry out there). The very best armour is made of composites, that is layers of different materials that nullify projectiles in very different ways but together offer the best protection. The best combination consist of an outer foam covered overlaping ceramic turtle shell, mid placed polycarbonate layer and an inner kevlar layer. The ceramic layer is ultra hard and will shatter all but tungsten tipped rounds. However being rigid means it fractures as well absorbing most if the kinetic energy of the round. This will guarantee that a fighting soldier remains on his feet to respond to the threat with little or no incapacitation. However the ceramic plates must be changed after every dorect hit to remain uncompromised. |
Cceramicaltd:With all due regards for the drive to discourage illegal advertising.... why should this cost N102,000. For what exactly. |
Angelfrost:This is too tight to offer you the best protection. There is not enough mass to cut the kinetic energy of a round to size. You will still suffer serious internal injuries. The best protection remains single use ceramic armour. It is heavy, uncomfortable but you will live to fight another day. |
nasoeb:Indeed but the APC offers the best viability since it holds power at the centre. Those smaller parties will only complicate governance, occupied throughout their tenures with battles to stay politically afloat as we have seen in other states where minority, relatively small parties have ruled. It is time the South begins to widen its political atmosphere by the instrument of competitive multiparty politicking. The PDP is stale and stagnated in ALL and I mean ALL southern states. Governance has tanked across that region. |
Issues, issues, issues. Take him on issues... that matter to you folks. Yes Bayelsa badly needs a change in direction from the stagnating years of the PDP but if issues are not at the forefront of electioneering then it is all an exercise in futility. Power must not be given just for power sake. Nigeria is not a monarchy. |
tiwiex:When we begin to crack down on crime we begin to grab the reins of our economy. No country can survive the size of the black economy Nigeria has viz its GDP. Yes, get into some kitchens and make examples and watch the problem cut to size. It remains a crime anywhere in the world to smuggle. Our conscience as citizens MUST be attuned to that. We have lost consciousness of what is right in this country. Once again if the police bursts into your house and finds narcotics, you will be arrested. You will be questioned and the chain of supply taken down. They will serve a greater punishment than you but you will not escape. We have a bigger problem than narcotics in Nigeria. |
aolawale025:It is absolutely right mister. There should be no limit to such operations. What they shoukd do next is to integrate their activities with that of the Federal Road Safety Corps and State VIO's to ensure contraband vehicles are not registered or licensed and their owners arrested at the point of presentation. This embarrassment will cause Nigerians to sit up and do what is right. We simply cannot degenrate to a lawless smugglers paradise and then turn around and ask government to support local industries and create jobs while we undrmine their efforts at establiahing a level playing field. I am totally against the baning of goods but I am all for right levies and competitive duties on all goods we are capable of producing moreover government is in dire need of revenue. America has a drug problem and though their borders are protected by layer after layer of security, drugs still find their way to the streets and anyone found wanting whether seller or buyer will be arrested for either trafficking or posessing drugs. We have a bigger smuggler problem and must be tackled with the vigour it deserves. Good one from the government. |
1shortblackboy:That is the tragedy of Nigeria. Where democracy is abused because it is completely misunderstood. They successfully voted out a non-performing governor and by their actions are not making a demand on the alternative voted in thus guaranteeing his ultimate failure in governance. You will discover that at this point in time government house will have been renovted with several millions and those responsible for this bridge paid salaries and wages for the period of this new administration. What is the point of costly elections if goverments never seem to change. |
First of all if you are white collar and in employent and in the service industry you simply cannot escape it. But of you can fashion your enterprise around production, location and embrace technology like I do then you can significantly cut down logistical challenges such as road transportation/traffic issues. In a nutshell I outsource everything that has to come to me and I stay in one place per set time. The latter is a security strategy from experience working in the Delta. Embrace technology to remain sane. Don't be a herdsman roaming all over town. |
Poster you are so, so, so wrong. Carry on like this and you are unlikeky to avhive your life goals because life will give you enough hard tackling defenders to mske you quit in every scenario. About to commence work so can't explain but simply put: The only criteria for significant decision making should be milestones attained in your planned program of either a career build or an enterprise build. A ship sailing across the Pacific or a plane flying across the Atlantic is bound to encounter rough, tough conditions if rhis is a regular service. The craft may alter course at some point to evade the obstacle but its objective at the end should always remain specific to make the route a viable business. You simply cannot succeed in life if your impetus and direction is continualy determined and irreperably altered by the obstacles you face along the way. Every man and woman of value will experience the threat of tectonic shifts that will question your resolve and test whether you have the will to succeed. |
