zicoraads:Believe me they are very addictive and when you cannot handle them your life may be on the path to permanent change. Bikes are very addictive. |
When we say restructure, they say no....see am... |
Bonjelomo:Happened in the US so its two/second. |
nedu2000:In the US it is two. |
Hmmm....double edged sword. Other states will be watching any may pounce with better offers if Lagos state goes too hard. Next.... 'Bornu state offers a ten year tax holiday to mega artistes....' |
musicwriter:Can you imagine the crazy man who has the nerve to use the word 'colonies' when the vast majority of Nigerians on the wrong end of the herdsmenace rightly or wrongly feel a jihad is being waged against them. Doesn't he read the papers or listen to the airwaves. They just talk anyhow and then wonder why they gain no traction from the public. Very silly, insensitive statements when sane minds thunk of ways to de-escalate the situation and prevent it from tipping over into all out, open conflict. |
Hmmm.....oga, the english langueage is full of synonymous words that can be used in place of that crap you spent. It only takes wisdom to apply the right ones at the right time and coming from someone whose home state is under siege and whose brothers are slaughtered like poultry, is most insensitive. At times like these just let your Minister of State talk. You are in no position to support whatever intentions the government has. Remember after this assignment you go home....to what... |
This herdsmenace has exposed the soft underbelly of the Nigerian state and calls once more the question of the structure of this country. Here we have the herdsmen now appealing to the Federal Government for compensation. The first question is: On what grounds. Is Miyetti Allah a business organisation, a socio-cultural organisation or a movement (non affiliated, NGO type). What is and what should be their relationship with the various federating units of the country. How is it that they are appealing to the Federal Government and not the state governments where they desire to operate and where these unfortunate incidents have happened. Apart from the FCT does the Federal Government superintended over any other land in Nigeria. These are the questions which will define the Nigerian state going forward. What exactly are the powers of the Federal Government in determining these sort of cases. We had recently the Okpella mines in contention between Dangote and BUA. One of the parties actually dismissed any role the Edo state government had in determining the case. Few years back it was the Rivers state government (under Amaechi) initially refusing to offer Indorama a C of O after the sale of the Fertilizer plant. Oku Iboku in Akwa Ibom was another. In general the oil indusry and the Niger Delta has borne the brunt of Federal over reach on behalf of private concerns against the wishes of indigenes, local and state governments. Now the herdsmen want the same leverage given to the likes of Shell, Agip, Chevron, etc to operate where they want, how they want with little or scant regards for indigenous interests. But what happened on the other end of Nigeria during the sharia inquisitions of the Obasanjo years where a lot of businesses owned by 'foreigners' trading in items and services considered inappropriate were openly violated, destroyed and the owners chased out of such states as Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, etc. Why did these interests not associate and then appeal to the government to be allowed to conduct their business whenever and whereever they pleased..... Are there rules, laws, inclinations and tendencies for some and not for all. The debate is on and we have to define how this country works moving on. Miyetti Allah, a group openly and brazenly known for horrifc violence is upping the ante and we wish to see how the government and peoples of Nigeria react. Let us test the 'state of the nation'. |
If this is true then its bad....really bad. My oh my. |
So who police go collect roger from if all of we be psssenger.... |
The word 'colony' sef is a scalpel that opens wounds of generations past especially the slave trade into British rule. Words like that fall into the category of jihad', inquisition', 'crusade', words that send shivers down one's spine. You see, this is why I am an advocate for restructuring. If Nigeria is properly structured, the identity of any Nigerian will be exactly that, a Nigerian, but we prefer to be identifued first by tribe, then religion, then politics, then class before nationality. Why for instance will the herdsmen wish to be identified as 'fulani herdsmen, mixing their occupation with a tribal identity. This is the undoing of Nigeria. I am certain if they were not 'Miyetti Allah' but 'Usman Dan Fodio and Sons - Cattle Breeders' they will receive a bit of sympathy. Afterall is Dangote not buying up vast resources down south without a problem. It means this can work if we restructure and drop this evil, toxic geo-political identity. The Federal government has no business whatsoeverpandering to sectional interests. If the herdsmen want air they should delaminate and begin to seek solutions individually. Its is possible. Just the same way that the only way to end the Niger-Delta crisis is for the Federal government to step down from direct involvement in the oil industry. Let the IOC's negotiate directly with the sovereign peoples of that territory and be partakers in the successes and failures of such ventires. The Federal government should not be seen to be taking sides and is not best placed to be an arbiter in enterprise of which cattle breeding is. I don't know of any serious business in the present day and age that must be tied to ethnicity. Even if it must like the Scots desire to produce pure haggis in its traditional form, the Americans say they cannot permit sheeps' brains to be served for human consumption, period. If you want to have an ethnic identity, do it at home, not at anyones expense. The fulani herdmen must modernize and integrate for them to progress south. |
hmmm....Wenger rocking boats around the world. |
Very happy to see this. If every state government can do this at least twice a year and then gel participants into a co-operative, get them those tools and equipment and then locate them in a functional industrial park, in no time the seeds of industrialization with break through. Personal apparel is a good show piece. How about our government through our youths get involved in the production of renewable energy components: solar panels, deep cycle batteries and wind turbines. How about telecom components, machine tools, synthetic chemicals, generic drugs, etc. The list is endless so are our needs as a country and and the army of willing and able youth. We can reform our society if we can bring leadership to identify with the aspirations of those who genuinely want to make a difference. |
GoodGovernance:Yes, his first responsibility is to defend his boss, no question, but he has a greater responsibility towards the Nigerian state amd her people. He should remember that he is in a tenured job and his life (if he wishes) doesn't end there. The currency of his legacy is being wasted. |
Mrnakeina:Simple. That is what democracy is all about. Getting someone to do the job. I go to the mechanic to repair my car. After two years he cannot make progress but keeps blaming me at every call of frustration for the accident I had with it.... but you promised heaven and earth you could fix it. Exactly when do I get fed up and ask the tailor to return my cloth. Because by the time he eventually sews it this my pot belly will have out grown his measurements all those years ago. |
pcguru1:Exactly what I was thinking. How effectively can a man build himself up to be a decision maker in a family set up. Surely a red flag to perhaps other matters of marraige. The wise book says to marry, a man must 'seperate' in order to 'cleave'. This includes exchanging old influences for new ones. I think all parents need to do is to teach their children the right ways and let them take the critical decisions. If the mother has issues concerning conception she should have ironed them out during his courtship but once dates are set, am afraid the horse has bolted. |
They know the history of Arsenal and its chairman back a hundred years but don't know anything substantial about Nigeria and its president back to just 1983..... |
Shameful. Just shameful. A father cannot buy drugs for his sick children and goes about calling himself 'a giant'. |
Touching. |
safarigirl:There is not one of the 32 coaches going to the world cup that will not desire all his players in fine form. How do yoiu even assess form when the person in question is not playing. The risk is just too high. Gone are the days of reputation and history. That is just assumpition and can fail anytime. Sorry, but that is the fact. He will find someone else to replace him who he can assess on the field of play. |
XingXhang:We took an experienced Yakubu Aiyegbeni to the World Cup, what happened. The history was good, that he was our best striker by the records but the geography was bad as he couldn't plot the direct route to goal from two yards. My friend, form is everything. |
safarigirl:There is no coach in the world who won't want all his players hot and ready. By the time the season is over in May the teams will have just a few weeks to prepare for the mundial and at most two or three grade b friendlies (because most cup teams will not want to risk their prime players). Is that enough time and test to bring a cold engine to speed? in a competotion against opponents who have players in good shape. Is that not the reason Yak missed an open goal from 12 inches out. Is that not the reason for Kaita's mistimed tackle.... in football form is everyting. The best coaches in the world know it and demand it. Nigeria cannot be an exception to the generic rule of football. |
When we said Nacho's move to Mancity was as grave as a posting to Afghanistan people kicked. Fast forward two years and see the beginning of the end of a once promising career. If he had gone to the continent and to the so called second tier countries such as Belgium, Holland or Portugal, chances are that he will be playing regularly in a league that suits his moderate pace and style and can build his technique to suit bigger and better leagues. The premiership is for mid age finished foreign imports who have a great resume and plenty of hot air behind them. By the time Kanu came to Arsenal he wad already a Champions league winner with Ajax. Same as Finidi before heading to Spain. But see Amuneke. Africa and straight to Barca and puff within a blink of an eye. |
LionDeLeo:Same thing we will beasking about this administration in a few years. The system is just broken. 130 million people depending on 1.8 million barrels of oil per day is the maggi and crayfish for the soup of poverty. We just don't work hard enough in this country to experience better times. |
pryme:Subsidise and watch demand skyrocket as the product finds its way to Benin, Niger, Chad and the Cameroun, smuggleed by the same 'masses'.Subsidy of anything is a nnatural magnet for corruption anywhere worldwude and the 'masses' end up footing the bill via long term poverty. The only way a poor nation can survive is to become productive. There are no short cuts. Someone has to pay. Look at diesel. Deregulated for about half a decade now. Has the price reached 1000 naira.... no. On Christmas day I was full of envy when a SUV pulled into a station behind me and had its tank filled with diesel at 150 within two minutes. Here I was in a long petrol queue buying gasoline at 250. Does tnat make sense? |
That is a very helpful thing to do Mr. President. Kudos. |
Representing his people to Treasure Island. Surely that cannot be a bad thing. |
stinggy:Against agberoism.... |
Pray:Complete it with tha Patrice Evra meme. |
Ishilove: That is the Inspector General of Police. The fellow who said every policewoman serving under him is fair game... So beware if you intend to join the force anytime soon. |
Heard nothing from the Sultan. Times like these create confusion on what his role actually is: Is he a political leader, religious leader or ethnic leader. |
nezzar:I understand what you mean but you don't spend that much money on a product (yes modern day sports is akin to merchandising) you cannot enjoy for every minute of its lifespan and I say lifespan because he has a term contract and when you divide the principal by the term you get very hefty sums draining out in value not to talk of wages and except he earns the club Beckham like income from image rights and merchandise, it is a financial hit on the business side. I mean clubs like Madrid will tell you how much they lose with a serial in patient that is Gareth Bale and Arsenal will tell you what Van Persie cost them. Not saying Coutinho is injury prone but injuries to expensive players us just that.... expensive financial injury to club. |
