PaChukwudi44:The basic discord here is distribution. People who have a problem with tithing want to take the responsibility of distribution. But you are not bringing to God what you are giving out. Tnere are a lot of scriptures about giving to the poor. But tithes are soecifically to be brought to God's House and entrusted into the hands of the Levites, the priests who distribute based on instruction. You simply cannot say to government, I have bought a transformer or built a road in xyz location so I will not pay my tax or because governor xyz rides a limousine I will not pay or decide for government what it shoukd or should not spend money on. Tnere are mechanisms for that but the obligation remains clear. The kingdom of God operates that way. Every Christian has financial responsibilities detached from individuals or even churches. Your responsibility is towards him and his kingdom aboveevry other thing or person. When the gospel came to Africa in the old ages, it came on the back of kingdom responsibilities. I am certain there were tons of poor people in Europe then but folks gathered the little they had to sponsor missionaries round the world. Today the reverse is the case, the gospel has to go round the country, round the continent and back to europe where it is faltering. How do you get this done when you refuse to tithe. I come from a family with ultra strong ties to the church. We know how these things work over several generations. Forget about those who misue and abuse it. It is not a pastors' meal ticket. It is not a business deal with God. It is borne out of conviction to see the gospel prosper and we don't think a minute of its efficacy. |
Follysho707:Abuse all you like, its not your money and you can do absolutely nothing to stop real Christians from expressing their absolute obligations in their love for their church and their God. Absolutely nothing. This is the best you can do. Nothing. |
Sapiosexuality:Tithes are not for the poor, simple. It is to build the church. It is to expand the kingdom of God and we are satisfied more and more people are getting to hear the gospel by every means. Alms to the poor is a different account. It was, is and will ever be. Preaching the gospel and giving to the poor are not the same thing. All the tangetial moves to erode the finaces of the church will not work, period. Our tithes go to buying lands, renting buildings, paying salaries, printing inspirational materials, buying air tickets, bus tickets, fuelling power plants, buying time on radio and tv stations, maintaining websites. It is oatronage by those who desire to see the word of God reach out to yet another man and as long this is being done we are satisfied to continue paying. Judas the thief did not discourage other disciples from following so any thief who is stealing in God's kingsom now certainly won't. An act of tithing is an obedience to God by faith, not an act to man by fear so no amount of propaganda will stop a man of faith. For if such a man received the gospel by the means of another surely another will receive the gospel by his means. I received my salvation at a 'Full Gospel Business Mens' convention many years ago. I was invited. Someone paid for my dinner. Today I have no right to decide otherwise because of one fellow who knows little about what true Christianity is and hasn't shared in the experiences of many. |
Just put a glass ceiling above your life. Now there are many folks you will never meet, places you will never go and timelines that can never prosper you anymore... for what return.... We have a responsibility to give ourselves the best chance in life. If not for ourselves, at least for those we love and those that care about us. What a selfish, self serving way to live. |
Ezenwa in goal for world cup...hmmm...bookies go dey give 'no clean sheet' odd of 1.00000000001. Meaning dat even if you put all the wealth of your future generation na only one naira go drop say de boy no go chop goal. |
Why United v Brom. Are the gunners not playing that day or do the organisers wish to avoid 'complicating' Mr Henry's visit by turning it into a townhall for disgruntled fans. |
Sad that the police uses underhand tactics though I don't support the scrapping of SARS. |

Just loving it. Real pollitics has started. Can you see why an opposition party is required in a democracy. Now the electorate should sit back and let the missiles fly between the two super powers. The people will surely be the winners here. My only hope is they keep 'ethno-reliogisity' to a minimum. |
deomelllo:That's what I've been saying. That the PDP is losing its pan Nigerian identity. Read my posts on this matter since yesterday. |
onatisi:You can say that again. This is the beauty of democracy. If not for the Modu Sheriff distractions the APC would have been sweating salt by now. Its all good. Better late than never. I hope they play the role of opposition properly from now going forward. Constructive criticism and torrential political pressure. |
chronique:I beg to disagree. Buhari went to Kano to confirm his 2 million votes are locked down....before official campaign starts. He is unlikely returning there till he is sworn in again. Doesn't need to so he can channel resources to states with threadbare following. In politics you build your camp in outposts where you can snipe at your adversaries and pick off disgruntled votes. The PDP has little traction in the west. What is it doing with a south-south chairman. What is it going to do in the south, preach to the converted?. With Wike, Udom and Okowa you don't need Secondus. But in the run up to 2019 the APC bus will ride some rough road too and some oranges will invariably fall off. A south-west chairman should be there for rich pickings. For an opposition party to beat an incumbent party midterm is monumentally difficult. To do so it will have to make in roads into hostile territory just as Trump did in some democratic strongholds against Hillary. Alienating PDP west leaves the PDP with no foothold there whatsoever and to sacrifice a whole region in a general election is a guaranteed loss. All the APC needs to do is reach 50 percent in the north and Buhari returns. Buhari will do better than that. l |
NgeneUkwenu:You've started stoking the embers of ethno-religious sentiments. That smells desperation pal. To be a champion you myst contest and win. What is the fear of the APC, haba. You're ruling. This propaganda is unnecessary. We want to see a contest. Let the ideas roll in and the debates begin. Stop all these primodal acts. This is 2018 knocking. |
plusfield:Agreed too. The APC is a lot more fragile and with a glass jaw should not spar. |
Agreed, it is increasingly looking like a regional party, far removed from its roots but much more cosmopolitan than the APC if not why will Mazi Bolaji be appealing for converts. |
Alaska90:And who wrote those books....who won't have a biased view of history. Sorry, the origins of Lagos remain unclear. I think the answers may lie somewhere in the libraries and imperial archives in London and Lisbon. |
seunmsg:Why did Mr. Prudent not send his children to BUK and KSU in identifying with the talakawa. Why London. And then tells us 'whoever can afford it should' in the midst of a foreign exchange crisis. My friend, this argument has no winner. Taking sides is pointless. Politicians are all hypocritical so it is better to sit back and let them strip themselves na.ke.d than risk your dignity trying to separate their fight. |
policy12:Abi oh. They will be talking about tithe payers. Now they have forgotten about tax payers who are compulsorily ripped off to fund politicians. To them it is only the church that has poor folks who cannot afford to go to schools established by government or Atiku's university for that matter |
hmm...at least he doesn't claim 'to have a shoeless past' in the past or borrowed to buy his nomination form. He does admit however that 'Nigeria has been good to me..' whatever that means... |
ghanaman5050:You'd want to think that way because the past president came from the south and the present government has the north/west combination so to match that and having the east in reserve means a sure win but how can you ignore the east in the 'first eleven' , the region which has been solidly behind the PDP and has become the poster child for political oposition and suffered much for it. Then the question, who does the PDP have in the west than can carry such weight. Fayose?....not a serious candidate and cannot make headway in that region.... another heavyweight political defector ofthe mould of a Fashola.... very unlikely and it means both President and Vice would be defectors.... dangerous and unsavoury. But like I said earlier a choice of an eastern veep will mean all principals are from eastern Nigeria, Atiku - north east, Secondus - south south east. This is the divide Nigerian politics is facing in 2019 and once again I say, the eastern flank of Nigeria does not hzve the demographic numbers to win a general election. The election of Secondus may be deserved but is not expedient and could be costly to the PDP eventually. |
bane for Kamoru...rewaya.....bong for Morufu....panebita and bang for musbau my man of years gone by who thought hybrids had something to do with having a lot of kids.... just love lexus... |
Wallade:PDP cannot win that way. They are still not ready for power at the centre. |
SouthEastFacts:Very unwise. |
Wow...December blues....Christmas came early for Pep and co. |
MdRabx:So with all these why is he afraid of elections. Real Madrid won the Champions League last season. PSG messed up biggie against Barcelona. Real Madrid says, 'I am shocked PSG intends to contest for the UCL this season despite their debacle. In fact I'm surprised they still have fans despite their failure..'. Does this make sense to you. Is this what a democratically elected President should be saying... |
Then it shows that sir, you need to be educated about what democracy is and am afraid as the President you appear to be too emotional, a tad sentimental and not introspective at all. For to tow this line it may mean you too may invariably be destroying the chances of the very APC you lead post your administration because you too have made a lot of mistakes. But what I suspect like all your predecessors have done is you've institutionalised yourself rather than the process by which you ascended thus you find it amusing anything can challenge your position but the beauty of democracy is that you have just one vote and everyone else has a choice as to whether you will return in 2019 or not so the amazement is kinda...bemusing. May I remind you that Barak Obama was elected President and did fairly well despite the scandals surrounding the Clinton era. May you also know that Donald Trump has been elected despite the gaffes and garbage or the Bush era. May I also remind you that it is not Goodluck Jonathan you will be facing at the polls in 2019. Can you just get on with governance and let us choose who leads us. |
bigpicture001:You lie against someone you don't respect. Add the bit that the mum 'forbade her return empty handed' clearly shows where the problem is. They are parents in name only, in practice however they are pimps and the truth is that the subsubculture of sending ones wards off to find greener pasture is what is at play here. And until government begins to address families as accomplices rather than victims can we begin to turn a corner on this greed induced, disastrous flight to fancy nightmare. Like I always say poverty is a mental experience. The thought process that can make a lady promise to pay a whole 200,000 to flee which can start a lot of profitable small scale businesses here in our shores need to be checked. The thought process that says a dangerous and arduous journey of uncertainty is better than the dangers and stress on success back here is real. The thought process that says the shame of slavery, the loss of dignity, the humiliation of rape is more worthwhile than that of humble beginnings pursuing legitimate dreams is profound. The thought process that says a gamble across the desert and med sea is better than any risk taking in Nigeria is in itself their definition of poverty. |
janellemonae:That is what I said a while ago. For the PDP to be rebranded it must the cleaved cleanly from its past. Unfortunately this has not been done. I think and they continue to prove that 4 years out in the political wilderness is not enough time for there Moses to find the 'burning bush'. If they are not ready soon Nigerians are better off reelecting the APC. The Sheriff debacle took too long to straighten out. |
What is with this government and the rise of ethnic nationalism. Everywhere you go people are asserting their tribes and tongues above national cohesion. This is a ticking time bomb. The conciliatory skills of the government are very poor. They just find it difficukt to find consensus anywhere which is the hallmark of democracy be it in the Niger-Delta, the fulani herdsmenace, the Biafran seperatists, labour unions and now this. Its all threats and violence on people they call their citizens. Its just so sad. How can thus nation move forward with such diametric aspirations. |
Good work from customs. They should send the chow to the IDP's and incinerate the rest. |
jrusky:Very unwise thinking. The wrong in the APC or PDP is about the individuals in it, in charge. So rather than wish for an institution to die support those who fight for a change within. This is the limit of my support for defections, cross-carpeting, etc. It shouldn't be so deep as to gut out one in favour of the other. I still believe two parties of equal strengths and bipolar ideologies remain our best chance of creeping forward under this structure. Donot desire the death of either. |
