madridguy:I am sure this was an internal memo.....not for general consumption. Better investugate how it leaked because this sounds like 'wailing' to me. |
infofta:You do the packaging and selling, oil majors do the farming and processing so....its kinda fair to share the receipts....isn't it. |
Fantastic. Just fantastic. The gospel is going round the world. The end of days is drawing near. |
Ignorance. My people perish for lack of knowledge..... not lack of effort. The world today is run by ideas not strength. You wake at 4am everyday to service the ideas of those who wake by noon. One gram of inspiration is worth a ton of perspiration. We know Dangote the cement maker not Danjuma the cement offloader.....Nigerians are very hardworking....see our country. Someone will wake up at 3am on election day in 2019, hustle to get in the queue, wait in the sun all day....then vote in the devil to torment him for the next four years....see them busy all over Nairaland... destroying their own destinies with great vigour. |
More milage than a hundred foreign trips by government officials. This is what African should do. Push its best and brightest forward and not be known for its thieving politicians who should shine for only a season but rather endure like a cancerous growth slowly choking the life out of their people. Very soon this man Dangote will provide more jobs for Nigerians than the entire Federal Civil Service and at no cost to us. Only if we had ten, just ten of his type. |
Nice. These are the kinds of things government should aim for. Get industries established by being a friend of the private sector. They should lessen the emphasis on government projects and channel resources towards private sector projects building capacity. Fashola is looking for money to build roads when this should be the task of the Julius Bergers and RCCs' who have the international links to raise capital. All it takes is establishing a roads and infrastructure commission and an infrastructure financing agency(cies) or corporation(s) which these construction companies will be shareholders. They raise capital, build the roads or maintain them and generate revenue via tolls, right of way, and other commercial activities all moderated by the commission. This takes the awarding of unscrupulous contracts away from government and into the hands of a more accountable private sector, earns government revenue and costs the budget virtually nothing. I will rather rejoice at one private sector success story than a hundred government activities because the former is more valuable, sustainable and a true wealth creator. |
Keneking:hahaha...abi oh. They know that one major c.oc.k up between now and 2019 and its curtains. When democracy has equal and opposite forces the country benefits. No more being taken for a donkey ride. |
AnonyNymous:Sure dude. You're in his pocket alright....together with a used hanky, a pack of ginger mints and of course.... some loose change |
Circuit breakers are an absolute necessity and what more can I say about the so called 'protectors'. They have saved only a handful of people from burglary and robberies but have killed a boat load of people in infernos. Why we cannot research better local alternatives that will balance safety and security remains a collective failure on our part. |
Beress:Hmm....Politics of expediency that has been our undoing since independence. To satisfy the yorubas over MKO and to assure the military there will be no backlash we had to have an undemocratic, authoritarian and shady OBJ out of jail to lead Nigeria. In order to compensate his buddy in arms, assure the north it was not frozen out of power and ensure his nemesis in Atiku did not head the rock we had to have a such a sickly, terminal Yaradua. In order that our economy did not collapse from crude oil asphyxiation due to the unrest in the Delta we had to have an inexperienced, docile lecturer as beep and later president because he was Ijaw when there was a better choice from Cross River. In order to beat an incumbent and dethrone the defacto largest party in Africa we had to have an aged, unqualified, authoritarian ex-military administrator whose previous stint in charge was an unmitigated failure. Once again instead of getting the smartest dog at the pound we have to have the biggest dog with the loudest bark to bully our neighbour's poodle to submission.... surely in ten months we will have yet another collective chorus saying.. 'you cannot teach an old dog new tricks...' Only restructuring can guarantee the very best candidates are up for election because it will offer no undue advantage to either party to the contest. Restructuring is the ultimate playing field leveller. |
okway:The upstroke and downstroke of a working democratic engine to keep the nation moving. You trade power for popularity. |
By 2019 everyone will be demystified. |
2019 will be too early for the PDP to return to power. Not enough has been done to rebuild the party post Jonathan and from the squabbles over the Chairmanship it appears the lessons of anti-democratic tendencies leading to splinter and failure at the last polls have not been entirely learnt. Power is too expensive a responsibility to be given to toddlers. Also I think four years is not enough time for the ruling party to institutionalise. It remains a party in its infancy. It is yet to blend into a singular identify or ideology and is only woven together by the delicate fabric of the fear of its major discordant characters namely Buhari in the north and Tinubu in the western. A loss of power at the centre in 2019 could mean a a delamination and certain end to the alliance, something all lovers of Nigeria and her fledgling democracy do not want to see. My hope though is that Atiku will run it close and tight. If he can mount unprecedented pressure on this government it will cause a rethink of all the unpopular policies, actions and inactions that have been brought to bear on Nigeria. It will lead to debate which is naturally precedes the unfolding of ideas a nation like Nigeria badly needs. It is important that we have proper diversity in the polity and a genuine table of choices. |
Abagworo:Just a while ago when motorbikes were banned government sang the virtues of the 'keke' as the appropriate alternative. In getting the keke banned what makes you think government will not come hard on the proposed alternative in the nearest future. Remember these are investments by a lot of people who will have taken loans, entered into contribution and are on hire purchase agreements. Sending them to the hinterlands is akin to economic execution and a government that cannot provide economic and business alternatives should not even contemplate such a hasty decision. All the states that had banned one form of transport or the other over the years have not recorded any social, economic or environmental progress whatsoever. It hasn't made their cities less congested, safer or more attractive. It has not improved tourism or brought in economic investment on its own. Countries such as India, Thailand or mighty Japan, all noted tourist destinations and investor magnets have kek's and bikes swarming all over their major cities causing chaos, traffic and fun experiences for foreigners. Our governments are just so senseless and mean. Improvement in the standard of living, providing mass public transport should be their priority not sending the already hapless citizens further into the abyss of poverty. Nonsense government. |
Great news. Sound financial management skills by this administration. |
Restructure Nigeria now.... |
One of the better run states and a kind legacy of Sullivan Chime. |
Abagworo:Very true. It was all over the news in Umuahia this morning. Folks calling in constantly in utter bewilderment and total revulsion.... year on year every conceivable index of life and living in Nigeria plummets. |
nairavsdollars:copulation na...which kin kweshun be dis. |
Laveda:Okay. It is now 'there's more to a woman...' than nudity and sexualism. What happened to, 'if you've got it, flaunt it...'. |
sircrabo:If you were a sound engineer covering FEC weekly meetings in Aso Rock chambers, what will make you light up and why not....eh.... respect. The man obviously does not respect the reasons he is there for. And if he is offering a service he obviously does not respect those he serves. When you invite Barney for your kids party encourage him to smoke a joint whenever he gets nervous... |
Rickyzagy:Yes. God warns against destroying the body he gave you. You are created for a purpose, His purpose, so you don't own your body. It is His and when your purpose is done or time is up, you cannot but return it to Him for assessment. A servant given a car to drive for the purposes of his employer cannot lay claim to the car, cannot use or abuse the car as he pleases. The day he does he will be called to account, simple. |
4Ken:So, because he is a foreigner he is excluded from the law that outlaws smoking in public. Because he is a foreigner he is excused from the decency in causing harm to others in such confined spaces. Because he is a foreigner he is excused from offending the sensibilities of others who came to a themed family event, a religious one for that matter, something he will never attempt to do in an event of any other religion a formal meet of any work of life. I can excuse the fact he may not realise the import of where he is. I can excuse the fact he may have been dragged there kicking and screaming and so plays truant but please don't insult others for what is wrong in most places in the world where he will get thrown out from. |
I disagree with the part that says '...by now they will have taken over some eastern and western states...' Anyone who is familiar with warfare will know that territory can only be won and occupied by conventional warfare alone, and not air superiority warfare, attritional warfare or what Book Haram is doing which is asymmetric warfare also known as guerilla warfare because all wars require resources and asymmetric warfare is lightfooted and so relies heavily on pit stops which can only be found in territories they can blend into. It will he near impossible to have a group of more than a dozen individuals of foreign accent go undetected anywhere outside that troubled region for more than 24 hours. Attacks will be largely unsuccessful. |
agwom:Corruption can never end...not bothered a bit. Without restructuring we will just stumble from one deception to another. By 2019 everyone will be demystified. |
kennygee:Misuse and abuse of life will always lead to problems of which this is one example. To be happy and fulfilled one needs to refer back to the manual of life which specifies what the Creator had in mind for we peoples of the world as presented In the Book of Genesis. God made us to multiply, replenish, subdue and have dominion over the earth He created. Doing that in its many forms leads to fulfillment. Taking and taking and taking and consuming and consuming and exhausting everything and having and hoarding is the destructive sequence of a reprobate people who have little to offer beyond selfishness and greed. It is killing the world, the planet and its inhabitants....a slow and painful death. |
The results will be different for everyone. For me I live primarily in Abuja central and work all over the country so its sedan for pleasure and SUV's or pickups for work. I do a lot of road travel and have learnt over time the unpredictability of Nigerian roads. A road may be sedan compliant at a given time and three months later you will be awestruck as to how badly it has deteriorated. But for pleasure nothing matches the Saturday morning ride of a sedan on Abuja roads and if you've got a drop top, that's heaven. But crossovers in their purest form are a no, no for me. I simply don't understand them.or particularly like them. |
They are not even willing to look into the matter. Wise heads should take a neutral position. What is wrong in at least acknowledging the demands of the public, afterall are they not public servants, paid by the public to protect the public. Is it a cardinal sin for your employer to call you to account. All these funny institutions that will not free themselves from the vestages of colonialism where the police acted the script of the plunderers against the peons. |
Whatever will spur debate is welcome. Nigeria is in dire need of alterhative ideas. I just hope the run up will be issue based. |
The truth is somewhere in the middle. We on the other hand love extremes including you the OP. The facts are clear throughout the bible. A lot of folks became stupendously rich by following after God. Abraham, David, Solomon all rose to prominence from obscurity. Jesus Himself said clearly that if a man surrendered substance to Him on earth He would receive many folds in return on earth and a slot on a heavenly flight. Surely the Jesus we all believe wasn't mistaken or spreading falsehood. He blessed Peter with a mighty catch of real fish after He used Peter's means...substance, his boat for a Godly purpose. Surely those fish will have been sold and perhaps afforded Peter a Rolls Royce Phantom....or at least a Gucci hoodie.... I don't think Jesus will have bothered. On the other hand there were many believers and obedient servants of the Lord who lived humble lives and in a number of cases suffered great lack, loss and devastation. Theses are also examples for us to follow for in the Hebrew hall of faith we are told that we share a common heritage with them. That through them our faith is made complete and I will like to add other virtues as well such as the perfection of our love, patience, perseverence, kindness, etc. So there is nothing wrong with experiences of both sides of the spiritual coin. The present day Christian must be prepared to do all things at all times in all circumstances to the glory of God. He must be sincere in all dealings with God. He must prove that he loves God above things. Above all he must be led by the spirit of God who knows all things. Both doctrines of materialism and doctrines of utter hopelessness are equally dangerous extremities. There is a reason the populations of the hot Sahara desert and cold Antartica are sparse. They were not meant for human habitation. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Let the Holy Spirit find it for each man. |
Cannot see how this can be good for democracy and clearly shows the ignorance rife in our society where opposition is not tolerated. A one party entity is symptomatic with stagnation. Won't be eurprised if the governor doubles as an emperor with the local governments merely the outposts of his fiefdom. Sad. |
Ballmer:And why are soldiers attached to the ex-gov. Is he a retired military man. When have soldiers now become orderlies to civilians. What is the work of the DSS and police. What the hell is happening to our country and its once hallowed institutions. He occupies no known administrative office. He undertakes no known government operation. What is going on. |
