Perhaps only 600,000 feel the impact of government.... |
davodyguy:Do you have to be a PDP member to see the obvious. What's about individuals that you guys cannot see past them to institutions and systems. That is where the Nigerian problem lies and that is why generation after generation of leaders cannot get it right. The people who hold true power are always distracted. Tied down by mundane issues. |
omoharry:Then what is Nairaland if not a centre for racism excellence. Or where have you been since democracy restarted in 1999. |
Fayose's obsession with the health of Buhari is sickening and totally disgusting in itself. We know the man is gravely ill and unlikely viable as the Head of State long term but many things he says and does crosses the lines of dignity and morality, from officialdom to petty personal. As for Nigeria we share a collective blame for this mess and the lessons are clear going forward. In a democracy don't elect larger than life characters to shovel s,hit on your behalf. When it goes bad it goes very bad. Churchill was a great war time leader but could not manage the complexities of peace time development. Democracies are peculiar, requiring EQUAL participation between government and the governed, both holding each other to account. The fear and awe Mr President is given has led to an absolute paralysis of democracy and the ability of the country to move forward and the bad it creates in terms of the uncultured statements and actions of individuals like Fayose. He feels he should amplify speech because the rest of the country is quite frankly, dumb, helpless and hopeless. |
Blue3k:But how do you block a river like that without untold ecological catastrophe. Think about what you're saying for a minute. Blocking that river will flood an area the size of Benin republic within 9 months. Not having anything about these thoughtless agreements drawn up decades ago but we should have moved past that by now and thus government has the opportunity to bring about change not excusing it. |
wristbangle:Of course most Nigerians are immune to suffering. They take a 4 year dose from their politicians. The last vaccine in 2015 was called APC....guaranteeing immunity from pain. Unfortunately the fake vaccine is wearing out hence the terrible wailing across the land. How will they know what decent telecommunications is. |
StRichard:By a country mile. Despite all the administrative thunderstorms the services have remained solid....and GLO solidly epileptic.... |
helphelp:Bad market things. Na only cowboys dey succeed for Naija. No paddyman for jungle. |
grandstar:All of them owe. There is no successful enterprise without debts. If you have none it is either you are not investing, expanding or producing much. It takes time from conception through research to production. How do you sustain this process without debts. How does the farmer pay for producing his crops before the market brings a return. |
EntMirror:You cannot run a successful business without some level of debt. Its not just possible. However the size and structure of the debt matters and the leverage the supplementary cash brings. I go in and out of one debt or the other every week. Without it I can not stabilise investments and productivity. |
[quote author=BigIyanga post=58302075]Typical Naija generic response to technical and mechanical issues. Is your submission based on fact? This question is redundant to begin with. Are you comparing BMW X5 with Mercedes E-350? I think class by class comparison offers a better insight on durability, cost of maintenance and price. Most Naija roadside mechanics dont know jack and they would tell you that this car is better than the other because they only know how to work on that one. Check kbb.com, edmunds.com, jdpower.com, nhtsa.gov to form an informed opinion. [/quote / But isn't the ability to maintain a vehicle part of the criteria for reliability. What is the point in buying what cannot be maintained for whatever reason. Remember this is Nairaland assessing things from a Nigerian perspective. If our mechanics cannot handle a particular brand then its no use to individual owners and is a drain on the country's resources. If there was a made in Nigeria car its use will be more expensive and is reliability lower in Tajikistan or Turkey. He has a valid point. If your car develops a fault on Benin Ore or on the Third mainland bridge you will be forced to make a hard choice between your warranty and your life. Then you will know how important the fact Nigerianised is and how irrelevant Edmund's can be. |
Blue3k:Ports are centres of commerce so should be run by the private sector like in every decent, progressive society. Government has no business in business. Unions should understand that. |
I think it should be Mercedes judging by the sheer number of models and ages which should be something more than the other two combined though certain models were clearly errors such as the famed 190 the older A class and to some extent the mid age C class. There have been nasty engines, nasty electrics/electronics and nasty structures. |
Better leave woman and head to the gym. As an african you have to work twice as hard as your indigenous counterparts to earn their shoes so while they are on holidays you work, and work and work and work or have your career sealed in mediocrity. We have seen this all too often but you shpuld be an exception. Learn from the mistakes of others and get good counsel. No man who seeks to war has time for irrelevant things. If you are truly young, thd time for girks will cime. For now build your career. Work, work and work hard. |
Nearly two dozen posts, not a femminist in sight.....that men are the only ones capable of pure evil. The man was even out to get you some food your lazy a.rse could not organise for yourself. |
cooltola:Poverty is mental not territorial. For everyone earning 50,000 there is someone earning ten times that or more in Nigeria. The fact remains that most people choose not to distinguish themselves. And when the mean becomes the standard those who pay for goods and services refuse to increase the rewards or compensation I.e. wages, contracts, salaries and settlements. It baffles me that in a country that makes virtually nothing people still find it hard to make it. The opportunities abound. This is a grossly overvalued society. Everything is more expensive than it actually should be so I don't know what people complain about the low wages and returns. One of the pillars supprting my business is the continual quest to right price when it comes to requisitions, quotes and bills by one of two things, either raise quality or trim cost so we work extra hard 365 days a year, 13 hours a day. It is surprising that in a country lacking so much the.folks here instead of taking opportunity are taking continual informal holidays instead. Most folks who travel out for the first time telll me of one noticeable difference, the work ethic and the continual quest for excellence. I don't need to be in the midst of foreigners to do that. I do it here in Nigeria. If you do you will prosper automatically. Find what you can do and sink your life into it,you will make it. |
No. Location does not guarantee success. Fundamentally, as long as you create and sustain value, you can prosper in any place. The three magnets of success are skill, risk and effort. Have them and you will become rich with time irrespective of where you are. 80 percent of revenues acrruable to footballers playing in the premiership comes from overseas attracted to an outstanding brand that offers great value. Many people work from home and I'm sure you've heard of the Indian ICT revolution drawing in billions from Europe and America in everything from calls to software to gaming from shanty basements next to paddy fields. Much of the stuff you use today comes from China. The average Chinese man has never been near an airport. No, you don't need to travel, just create value. Most people who travel go to 'seek', most people who succeed on the other hand have it in them. I'm at the UK, the States, Canada, Germany, France, Spain and other countries almost on a daily basis but I do not go there, my business does on my behalf. So my economy is not Nigerian but my location is and I have no intention whatsoever of ever stepping into an airport or attending a visa interview. It is my hope that it is my clients who will do the travelling after all it is me sweating day after day to create value. I have no reason to run up and down as well. |
Omittesb:They've always been since the old ages when the military campaigns by their barbarian neighbours then the great Ghengis Khan forced them to build parts of the Great Wall.... the only man made object visible from space (apart from pollution). Communism put them in the shadows for a while but since the 70's they've returned with a bang. They have always been mega builders. Check out the Imperial palace. Nothing close to that on earth. Just magnificent. |
Lagos remains at the bottom of places I want to reside. The best still remains intolerable. For the fifth largest economy in Africa not to be able to provide decent infrastructure for its business nerve centre is just plain lazy mindedness and crass irresponsibility. Just can't live there. |
But if the person is smiling with a 1 million carat diamond necklace it is acceptable abi. Is there anyone who doesn't know what grief or experienced it first hand. A socialite cannot pick and choose what face to put out there. Jackie Kennedy lost her husband violently in broad daylight in front of a worldwide audience. She had no option, nowhere to hide and no decency to protect. Public figures are like that. |
Khodorkovsky:And what problem is that... |
Yyeske:What is your problem with people gathering to vent solidarity. I simply cannot understand why you people cannot stand opposing ideologies and self expression. What good are you giving them that they have rejected to make you so angry. Abegi. People are gathered to be inspired and here you are shouting kill, kill. What kind of people are you. Always agitating for blood. Oya, enter their minds and disabuse it. My friend you are swimming up a river. Your strength will soon fail you. You are on the wrong side of history. |
As usual when they are under pressure they typically resort to sentiment laden blackmail. Of course he can say that to a Kano audience that typically prefers the status quo . Let him go to Bornu and confront Book Haram or the east to confront the separatists with his 'facts'. Nonsense people. |
VocalWalls:Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. Or do you want to ignore the fact that there is cyber crime. When you operate in a hazardous environment you wear PPE not only for safety but the brightly adorned gear makes you visible when things get nasty. Get references by having tangibles. Much of the cyberworld is in the shade. Blogs and the rest were started by writers, journalists and the likes. They had tangible means of identity and a physical presence anyone who is doing the right thing should have. It is not only the police you will have issues with. The tax man as well will not be able to track you. The same problems cyber multinationals are having globally with authorities on crime, legislation and tax matters. No matter how cyber you are, you remain in the shadows until you go physical. |
banmee:Tell them. They want lemonade out of apples and keep on wondering why they constantly get cider. The path to development is almost always the exact opposite of the thought process of the average Nigerian. And the sorry country is the amalgamation of such thoughts. Most people here should check their personal diaries as to what they thought this individual and this goverment would become just a few years ago. If they ran their lives that way could their personal experiences be much better. I mean would they have married a woman, studied a university course or made a business investment the way they 'massively' voted this man in, with all conviction based solely on sentiment that he was recommended by someone. Will you throw in your lot without asking questions.... Rauf did not put a gun to their heads. They chose him....twice. |
Oga. Go get a proper, practical, productive skill. That is what I advice all and sundry I meet for all sorts of reasons including this. With a skill comes an address. With an address comes witnesses in the form of clients and customers. You cannot go wrong with this even if you do 'online' by the side. You and the country in general will be better off. The whole ambit of cybercrime is to stay ahead of the knowledge curve. You know it, the police knows it and they capitalise on the knowledge deficit to extort. It is just in your interest to simplify your life by having an angle they can relate with. Add a proper, practical, physical, productive platform to your portfolio. |
sinaj:And husbands whose wives cheat? Or do the men cheat with virtual women. |
Raziii:The system of course cannot produce quality leadership. That's why they resist it so badly. They are not there because they have any thing to offer or past performances but because of sentiment. Surely they will resist restructuring. That's why he plays sentimental mind games. Pitching in his tent with the owners of Nigeria to secure and legitimise his maladministration. |
When a similar thing happened a few years ago, the country went into political frenzy. Every one seems to have gone mute, perhaps introspectively wiser now....but, my word, indeed suffering is good for the soul. |
bsideboii:Folks don't just understand what marraige is all about in the context of healthy living. The woman is there as a helpmate. So in this application she is there to 'help you save' for the rainy day. How: both of you earn an income. Thus the spending power of that family is rated on the income of either the husband or the wife not both. Folks, if you are married out there and you are both spending what you earn, then financial cataclysm is near. One party must invest or save 100 percent of what he or she earns for the future prosperity of the union. The trust and openess this generates further cements the couple but what we have these days are selfish, slimy, two tongued, double dealing men and women masquerading as couples whose only desire in marraige is to use the other party. Wisdom is not universal. |
Haba. How man and woman go dey work for same organisation and go sleep with two eye close. This na Wisdom for Living: 101. From Garden of Eden, man dey train animal, woman dey farm. |
Anything for ratings these days. We know how it will all end. |

this is something the poor will never understand.. You think borrowing is a sin..? It's a tool in the hands of entrepreneurs.. there's what we call good debt.. Funny enough, those who fear to borrow are usually the one suffering the impact.
