NwaAmaikpe:Magazine you mean. |
Alitair:Via factory fitted app for Nigeria models called 'Roadblock', which interfaces with your bank and the account of the man in black. Just type in his file number.... |
Ontarget:Better than the Camry that looks like Darth Vader with his head chopped off. |
By 2019 everyone will be demystified. Frugality indeed. Who remembered that advert about Russian vodka and the revolutionaries. |
Predator or Darth Vader....can't decide....just terrible... |
I care less about it all. Most of the funds will still go to multinational 'con' tractors who will fritter most of it away to foreign bank accounts. Only in Nigeria does investment in infrastructure have no single socio-economic impact. Wake me up when Nigerians begin to develop themselves. |
Ah, ah, why una dey vex like dis. Na only suggestion nau... |
Just when you thought it couldn't get any lower then a salesman knocks the door and says he's into boreholes....kai |
EpicMaurice:What full details are you waiting for before hunting the devil down and locking it up. Be waiting until the women are dead then you come here to type a shoddy rip. Black men eh. |
The song of dictators and totalitarianists. |
NaijaCelebrity: ...industry indeed...abeg wetin una dey produce again... |
The APC have the majority in both houses, the PDP is comatosed. Without political opposition why can't things get done. Who is he complaining to. They wanted power, got it and still cannot perform. He should just shut it and sit down. Medoicre fellows. Is it today that the Legislature started vetting budgets. |
Acknowledged. To In Tray. To start with. Good first step. But they must bite the bullet and immediately remove from wherever it is written including in the psyche of some Nigerians this notion of 'one indivisible Nigeria'. Such cannot be written in stone but on paper with a pencil at all times. Nigeria should be a nation held together in a flux....under tension. All its constituents MUST CONSTANTLY, CONSCIOUSLY FEEL the stress of its diversity. For a vehicle to run smoothly and successfully its tyres must be held tightly and under stress. The moment one of its nuts seeks to relax and loosen up, the whole wheel is in jeopardy. What we have is a Nigeria where everyone thinks everyone else runs at their expense. It is a toxic way to exist as a nation. So when each nut knows that to loosen up means to end the journey we will learn to respect one another and look at our diversity circumspectly. Then we will be ready to start negotiations. The 'State of the Nation' will never be taken for granted anymore. This country is beyond a creation in any particular ones image. It should be for all. |
PapaNnamdi:He is right. Go to old Nigeria and visit old Nigerians who were successful in the seventies, even middle-class and invested their money wisely then here in Nigeria and abroad. They still maintain lifestyles that will shock you. There are quiet Nigerians who hardly use BVN, pay most of their taxes to the Queen and and shuttle all over the world. Not everyone is a thief or is involved in any criminal enterprise. Some operate far above those levels. |
Poverty has indeed taken Nigeria and Nigerians to the cleaners. As a kid growing in Kano I will cycle to Aminu Kano to plane spot on Saturdays. Go to NAHCO and seen the number of cars coming in and going out for repairs. SEL's, Jags, rovers and even top of the range Hondas. Airfreight was cheap then and the pound at par so you just flew your car to the UK, Germany or the Netherlands for repairs. And if you bought it there the warranty will require this. NAHCO had a huge car park for this. Nigeria has really deteriorated. People even flew their household belongings by air. Half our house moved by airfreight from Lagos when we moved in the late seventies by Panalpina. Nowadays students who study abroad cannot even afford to fly in their books after graduation. They just sell them off and return with their laptops. My mum came back with five pallets by airfreight including pots and pans. Return on BCal was N750. |
That's cheap and no surprising because the very top hotels have a deep setting cultural and historic underpinning no middle-east country can give. Not surprising that despite their vast fortunes no hotel in the mid-east or gulf makes the top ten and just one in all Asia. Even America has just one. As expected as well, Switzerland takes the cake for the priciest hotel suite at $67,000 per night...or some 23 million naira per night. This I must do. Could not replicate my late dad's trip to Newyork on Concorde as they had retired before I started earning a living but this one.... I will not miss. |
Jiang:hmmm.....so which side are you.... or which flag do you want to fly.... |
lestat:If you escalate the situation with the use of deadly force chances are that you will become a target of assassination. Most robberies are gang related and even if you wipe out the entire unit there will be others who didn't participate but will like to avenge their loss. If you are not a serving member of the security services with institutional back up or a 'big man' with contracted security DONOT ESCALATE THE SITUATION EXCEPT UNDER THREAT OF ANNIHILATION which remains a small proportion of robberies. |
Hmmm....one of those jewel posts hidden amongst much rubble. A geniune treasure trove of info. Now let me use two devices to pick useful points: Firstly ma'am, are you sure this is from the police and us the legit, universal view of the entire police organisation because there are a couple that raise the eyebrow and should be taken with caution as in !!!CAUTION!!! So: 1. Fact. But ultimately you have to balance security and safety as the kitchen is the number one place for fire harzard and thd kitchen door is often termed as the 'fire escape'/ alternative route out. Fire escapes by nature should be axacessible and have a maximum of one lock action. The last place you want barriers. I suggest a single solid armoured door with multiple hinges and triple locks. 2. Totally agree. If the felons recognise a built in obstruction like an armoured door they are likely going away or through another route. However if they perceive it was obstructed then you are done for. Remember, the vast majority of robberies are executed on premises the assailants are familiar with so they most likely know where to breach. Donot surprise them without a solid plan that leaves no room for failure. 3. For women particularly, this goes without saying and must be the number one nightmare for most families with women and adult relations and helps. But how can you persuade an african woman living in the tropics with poor utilities to buckle it while asleep. To make matters worse the vast majority of clothes they wear are notoriously difficult to wear quickly with zips and straps in odd, unreachable places and if you are host to tight fitting wardrobes then its double jeopardy. 4. The phone calling thing has never been to my taste at all. It works well abroad because there are dedicated lines with well recognised numbers manned by professionals waiting for exactly that kind of call and have the resources to respond accurately. In Nigeria am afraid the police gives out all sorts of numbers every six months which work for a while and are tossed, randomly crafted numbers you could never ever get your head around especially after a few beers and aspirin to hack the hangover. And if by strange luck you get through the response team is probably across town some thirty miles away simply because the structure of our policing does not recognise concentric areas of operations and localised authority. The big guns, intelligent, daredevil cops and fast patrol vehicles are probably under 'state headquarters' control. And in a state like Cross-River or Taraba this could be 5 hours away. We need county (local goverment) controlled policing with full resources....pie in the sky.... 5. Yep, throw the power switch....but make sure the CCTV, panic alarm system and other critical devices are not on this circuit (which lazily often are). Also remember they are coming at night so they have an visual edge. Makes theirs worse, not yours if for instance you are afraid of the dark and sleep with the lights on. 6. No comment. Not sure what the law says and whether this is legit police policy. But remember this. The choice weapon of most robbers these days is the AK. Depending on the ammo, it can deliver a round at between 600 to 900 metres per second. Most houses are no bigger than 20 metres across and compounds about 30 metres. That is a lot of damage in a small space (that is why robberies are more bloody than military assaults). I suggest before retrieving your weapon, you put on a flak jacket and make sure your household is as flat on the floor as a pancake. There is no point in killing a robber only to lose a family member to incidental gunfire. Its not worth it. Only use weapons when you have credible intel that that robbery will result in a bloodbath. e.g herdsmen menace. 7. Agreed...iincluding the wife ?!"?*"''&?....cos you cannot give them everything. Just say property. 8. Agreed, cos like I said earlier, most robberies are territorial and actors are likely known in the vicinity or by some relationship. 9. Are you nuts...you just escaped with your life. Don't even think about it except there is an abduction and even then just to identify the vehicle of escape and route taken. No more. 10. Like I said, calls to the police depend on the territory. The quality of policing across thd country is not uniform and in some cases you may just be wasting youf time or worse exposing yourself to blow backs. However be your neighbours keeper if you have these assets at your disposal. Share security devices, protocols and other resources. 11. Seen this before..... have motion sensors to give you more time to prepare....especially 3 which has no solution. 12. Yeah, agreed. I mean what hapless gang will all invade a house without outside watch/backup. Once again, only with the threat of genocide should you take extreme measures. No substance, property or belonging is worth it. |
senatordave1:The same jaundiced thinking that shut down the PDP and is Nigeria better for it. Better lift your head and be pragmatic in thought. Dino is not calling for the destruction of the government. He raises valid points that should be taken for what they are. Is it evil to pressure a government to manage its affairs better. I just don't understand you people. Is Dino fighting for his own wages. Granted the people have the absolute right to recall him but it so funny to think that you want to extinguish the only voice fighting for ultimately your own good and the governor had better heed and roll out solid reasons to back his non performance instead of waiting for the electorate to oust him at the polls. For his joy at an increasingly enlightened electorate is a very sharp, double edged sword that will come for his own neck shortly. |
Double post....Etisalat....hmmm... |
This is what should be happening IN EVERY STATE of the federation. A battle between elected representatives that brings to the fore, information, enlightenment and hopefully, power to the people. That section of Kogites have shot up the power ladder to be the most effective political bloc in the country. Whether the recall comes to pass or not, democracy will win and hopefully the people will be better for it. Like I said months ago, it is a pity that Nigerians shot themselves in the foot by a collective gang up to destroy what will have been solid, credible opposition in the PDP. Now we can see the role of having an alternative voice in governance. What we witness in Dino's war will have been a frequent occurence at all levels and the mistakes this present government made and continhes to make will have been mitigated with much political pressure. No country can develop without the platform for continuous debate and fierce opposition. Now that the PDP is comatosed the APC will have to find another contender and it appears it is coming from within. After Kaduna with Rufai and Sani we have this. We hope many more will spring up in the coming months and years to strengthen democracy via the people. |
Jabioro:The society you guys refuse to reform and expect to get better because of a 70 year old man voted into power. You have seen it all now. I think you guys like Nigeria the way it is.....continue enjoying. We say restructure, you guys say no. Even that may not be available again..... so expect bad to worse. Once again, enjoy it. |
JeffreyJamez:And they want a system that works yet want to pick and choose who gets slammed. Not surprised at all. With Evans and Saraki having 'massive' support, why won't another felon. |
ApostleJSuleman:What kind of rubbish are you saying. Is she not going through the judicial process. She was arrested and cannot perfect bail. Is that the fault of the complainant or the system which is obviously not perfect. Yes we all want justice in future and hope for a working system but justice also means a stand against defamation which is a crime. You are angry simply because you feel pastors should be defamed without seeking redress. Try that to other religions in other climes and see the kind of instantaneous justice that will blow your mind away. Freedom of speech indeed. And then you come here and complain how your pet politicians are insulted everyday. |
There are man things you and your neighbours could have done much earlier to help mitigate the situation such as trenching to divert and control runoff and the re-vegetation of that area with trees and shrubs to hold the soil and buy valuable time. Gmelina is a very good specie of tree which can grow in almost all climates and soil types and is a very invasive specie and aggressive reproducer with vas penetrative root systems. Just one tree and in three years you have a small forest. Not everything is government, government. A little environmental education and effort can help. |
Keneking:Not too sure about that. Mubadallah has cut them loose and with it goes 'values' without a doubt. Values are sustained by critical mass. Without the parent company involved the 'child' will simply learn from its environment so expect a gradual but progressive 'Nigerianisation' of its operations and with the heat coming from banks who know nothing beyond money the outlook is pretty dire. Sure they don't want a run on their subscribers cos right now there will be green, red and yellow sharks circling. He has to say that. |
Wow....so, so sad. The rate at which this country vents its assets eh. I think the health sector is dead as well and we need to look at health insurance critically to stall this catastrophe. |
Security was one of the three point agenda this government rode onto power. Overall the situation has not changed, just shifted address. I am pro Nigeria. Ain't going nowhere. I will stay put and so my bit. Won't stop telling them the truth. My patriotism is not about bread and butter. Nations are built by people and ALL nations had difficult pasts. |

banmee:Exactly. That is why personally I have never politicised corruption and never regarded it an issue worth considering simply because it is symptomatic of a greater malaise affecting Nigeria, which is an erosion of values due to the lack of a nationalistic identity and patriotic posture which can only be cured by restructuring. Nigeria is a bug infested swamp and will continue to produce bugs of corruption until it is drained. But I like your take on history. You should have told then candidate Buhari and the APC they were just wasting their time. |
