alnaijiri: Since when are Honda Accords "exotic"? To buy off an election, you need at least some Range Rovers, Mercedez-Benz, BMW, or Porsche. Jap cars? Please. Even BH has plenty of Toyota Tacoma pickups.
As you don chop tire e no 'exotic' but to the real electorate wey don suffer tire na heavenly ride. One man's meat is another man's leather belt.

Where are those Chavez apologists on Nairaland. They should take up the patriotic task of sanitizing socialist bums.

Venezuela is lucky he passed away sooner that later. Five more years of Hugo and they will be perusing garbage heaps ala Nigeria 1983.

abraj property: I Just hate It when BH is been address as islamic sect, the word islam shld be removed....because All they're doing is against islamic teachings...am a muslim from the west, we live, play, marry, joke, and Have pleasure and memorable momments with our christian folks.. ..It hurt seeing the word islam whenever am reading reports on BH.....hurts.......
I understand and that's why personally I have never called it a religious movement because it is not. It had its origins in politics, it is rooted in politics and its sponsors and patrons are political elements. That islam is used as a vehicle of convenience is unfortunate but is due to the feudalistic tendencies of the elite who have robbed the people of the essential tool which will make such conflicts hard to spawn. Every religion tenet is subject to interpretation and religious practices are the product of knowledge.

The good news here is that even Christianity passed through a 'dark age' and was only saved by reformation. What peace loving muslims should seek is for a strong reformation character to rise out of its ranks and take away the initiative from negative elements out of parts of the middle east and northern Nigeria.

Jarus: The CBN governor is not the president or a state governor. He doesn't have to announce to the whole world he is going on medical leave, moreso when it's just for a few days.

In any case, if he wanted to hide it, he would not have allowed a picture of him in hospital taken. There is one on the internet where he was seeing off Kano state governor who visited him in the hospital.

At the risk of committing name-dropping, I am also aware as he told me he was on medical leave abroad, without asking, when I contacted him for something else last week. I don't think he has anything to hide about going on medical leave.

Visiting hospital abroad? Now that is debatable. But I don't think the CBN governor is the right person to get Nigerian hospitals functioning well.
Appendectomy again. Ordinary 15 minute procedure. When will you guys ever be impartial and objective
Politics › Re: Will NTA Ever Improve Their Pictures? by Reference(m): 2:33pm On May 16, 2013
I don't know of anything that involves creativity and enterprise anywhere in the world where goverment betters the private sector. Broadcast and the media is no exception. The BBC's travails are well documented, VOA is really poor and many more national/government media outfits all over the world.

The NTA however takes mediocrity to another level. From aged, ugly, misshapen anchors led by the mafia chief, Stober himself to poor, poor, poor production quality and an absolute lack of creativity at all levels. The place cries out for reform.

And though I can understand the need for federal character in a multi-religious, multi-ethnic society such as ours, I think NTA takes it way too far. The media of the 21st century is a business-centric one. The garbs and gestures are just unnecessary distractions and go a long way in trivializing the business of information, education and entertainment.

There isn't much need in portraying ethnic and religious diversity on national TV to that degree. We know who we are and will rather appreciate what unites us rather than what diffrentiates us.

You wouldn't see a Scotsman wearing a kilt on the BBC to prove anything.

I just think when they get their priorities right there may be hope. Its not all doom however. The quality of spoken english and the depth of knowledge of conventional matters still surpasses most private TV outfits.

touchmeder: its quite sad but i am sure if criminals especially the armed robbers and their brother's who kidnap people for money and even kill them after collecting the ransom knew they would face the hang man's noose if caught, all this rubbish will reduce drastically if not end.
There have been strong debates about the correlation between the severity of punishments for crimes such as robbery and kidnapping and the violence associated with these crimes. While premeditated murder is thankfully rare, robbery and kidnapping isn't and the fear is that it could make robbers and kidnappers more violent and more willing to 'clean up' any evidence of their crimes.

abubello: so those rules and regulations should override ones religious injunctions? Why should a muslim girl who wants to cover her modesty be forced to expose her nak.edness to the public?
Can see your point and although there were meetings before an agreement was reached one cannot determine how wide the consultations were. This is where the state assembly comes in (just wonder what their job is exactly) as they are closer to the grassroots than the executive and can truly represent the wishes of the people.

Unilateral decisions even by government can lead to extremism. LASG should handle this matter carefully.

alnaijiri: State of Emergency in the North is a codeword for restricting democracy and autonomy of the Muslim North and subjugate Muslims under this Xtian Crusader government. We know this is what the South wants. Maybe they're bankrolling BH and other "Islamic" groups all along to get what they want.
Then why not deal with mess yourselves. Most southerners that I know want out of this country even those who hitherto wanted an agreement to stay. I don't know if any sane minded person who wants to rule over people so in.... Let me leave it there.

We are just an irresponsible lot in this country. The House that represents the vast majority of us is in the process of amending the constitution. Which of these matters has it addressed. No, they won't because they feel it is a security problem. I just wonder how many soldiers and policemen you will need to escort every herdsman and his cattle or battalion you require to protect every village in the path of these nomads. It is crazy.

The other day I was in the south, close to a location where Shell has a facility. If you see the size of the military convoy that escorted a subcontractor mobilizing to the flow station you will just wonder. Tens of troops in complete battle gear prepped for heavy engagement complete with air support from airforce gunships. This is not a security problem, it is a political one and until we come together and sort out this mess instead of merely pointing fingers in nauseating hypocrisy and gross irresponsibility then we are in for a very hard time. The status quo cannot just be maintained anymore and whoever pretends otherwise is just deluding himself.

maclatunji: For as long as many people continue to think like this, GEJ will continue to be ineffective and the violence which is a result of the abdication of the duty of the Federal Government to protect lives and property will continue because criminals and anarchists know there is a vacuum. Nature abhors vacuum, if GEJ's government refuses to be in control, non-state actors will do so with devastating effects.

GEJ won't be the first southern non-Muslim to lead this country and he most likely will not be the last. So spare us all of these excuses.

It is time for people to say enough-is-enough and hold GEJ responsible, the buck stops at his table.
Then they should give him an incentive to stop the violence. Right now what I see is senseless backlash that's playing into the hands of any politician south of the Niger. Those who stand to gain more by keeping this country at peace and in shackles are themselves beating war drums or do you think OBJ and Yaradua wanted peace in the Delta because they just loved those people??

They thought by heating up the country folks down south will chicken out of the equity table. See the terrible miscalculation.

All well meaning Nigerian should rally round and save the north from itself but I simply cannot see that happening before 2015 when the picture has been made clear to all because it appears as if a vast number of people still donot realise what is happening. Thge north has to exhaust all its cards first.

maclatunji: Trust me, if you are a competent leader, you will reduce this problem to the barest minimum even if the killers are spirits.
C'mon Mac stop this. You know deep down what's going on. You know who's arming these folks and why. If the present leadership has done anything it is to expose the weak under-belly of this country. What you can see is political earthquake, power shifts, tectonic movements in the country caused by the ascension of Jonathan, a minority and from the eastern part of Nigeria, period.

The owners of Nigeria are not taking it too kindly that their empire is cracking up hence these attacks. And observe, they will increase in intensity upto and beyond the next political milestone. The herdsmen are merely foot soldiers but the message has got to them, that their benefactors are no longer in absolute control so its every man and cattle for himself.

Their handlers will be pleased that these groups are given free access to all territories while carrying weapons with which they hope to reign in lost ground by striking terror.

Unfortunately the pen or the ballot is mightier than the sword and am sure the middle-beltans will not make the mistake at future polls.

The GEJ presidency has changed this country for ever. What we see are the violent kicks of a dying horse. The earlier they realise that this country belongs to all the better for them.
