Yes but pls note. A step father is different from a man married to the mother. Step father by name is not legally adopted. The legally adopted carries more weight in court.
Ofcos no one wishes for divorce or such unpleasantness in a union. The other thing is that we should learn to allow people reach their own opinions about something without attempting to project our own impressions on them
You are right that a step father by name is not legally adopted... but it is not also an automatic disqualification when filling for a traveling document...
@ bold, what every one is doing including u and I is assumed to be brainstorming....Sometime people bring in worst case scenario.. No one is projecting anything....If OP has it all put together he will not have created the thread right?...

He wanted Opinion in a public space... so he will get the good, the bad and the ugly. at the end of the day, it's always him and him alone that will make the final decision... There are some view and some minor details that he won't think of.. but if someone could mention it, it might be helpful to him... That's the importance of brainstorming..

Shut up, and how did u come to conclusion that it was the father of the child abandoned his child. Or the mother fled with her lustful partner and prevent the man from seeing the child. No man throws his money to a woman that won’t allow the man close to the biological father. Let him fend for the boy when he grows he will strike a bow through his heart right from the back....

Family › Re: Should I Adopt My Fiancee's Son Legally? by Richy4(m): 5:52pm On May 08, 2021
drnoel:
This is sentiments. There are some countries you can't go to with another man's son hence the need to adopt the boy. I believe that's why the OP is asking the question. If the biological father is out of the picture and has been for a while. There is nothing against adopting the boy. Pls remove sentiments out of logic.
Yes I agree with you @ bold man. but when he is traveling outside the country, is he gonna travel alone without the mother?

There are spaces for declaration in terms of visa purposes... when a form is filled, you will be asked how those accompanying you were related to you.. (A step father can be declared)... It is a not an automatic disqualification because you were not the biological parent... what it will only take will be 2- 3 weeks for the documentation and verification of IDs to be delayed just to make sure he was whom you said he was...

But issues and complication of this kind of thing supersedes only traveling document and purposes.. eg
<< Who is the real first son of the family?
<<< If the man is from Igbo land, there are certain traditional things they will like the biological son to do.. if that should happen, that boy will feel insulted...
<<< what about the issue of a troubled son that does not what to see himself as the second son and demands to take his rightful position as the biological child.. this can be avoided now...
<<< If he adopts the BOY now, and maybe.. Just maybe... issue of divorce comes up later in their life, do you think OP will find it easy?
This whole thing is complicated... I wish OP can just be a father figure to the boy... do his best as a father and forget this legal thing..

As you say, I wanted to edit and use the word SOME, but instantly having too many flash back I held back. For me to generalize it is okay

Sorry bro. I just cannot stop seeing this vagina people in a bad light
I am just concern because having been privileged to study statistics as a borrowed course, I understand better...I may probably have been thinking like you and won't understand the importance of not Painting with the Same Brush ...

Now, when you are talking about women being bad, You did not select a population....There are women species all over the world.. different race, colour differences, different age bracket etc.. is it Nigerian women only or women all over the world that were bad? <<<<Importance of statistics.,,

Let us say you eliminated other countries except Nigeria, if I'm correct, Nigeria has 36 states and Capital.... Did you experience all this bad experiences in all the 36 states...where is your statistical observation from (.is it in kogi or Lagos etc}

Now if you carry a survey about Unethical Behavior of women... You have to state the area you were looking at for example
<< Is it a bad behavior in work places
<<< is it bad behavior in various homes
<<< is it when they appear in public spaces etc......That should also show in your observation

And I'm gonna assure you that there's no way u will have 100% positive/ negative... so if 97% agrees with you, are you going to throw away the opinion of the 3% that disagrees..

No one is gonna dispute/ rubbish what you may have passed through from the hands of women but there are some people who thinks that women were angels because of their own experiences and observations... and you too will not dismiss their opinion but respect it... That's why using the word "some" in a write up like this is Better and it will also make u sound smarter because u considered others who might have different opinion ....

Biological lineage can’t be willed to a Sexist Nigga.
It takes two to make babies.. she did not climb ontop of herself and got pregnant.... I do not think OP was wrong in calling him irresponsible if truly he abandon mother and child when he was only 4 months... I don't think it's right to support bad behavior and irresponsibility ....
Family › Re: Should I Adopt My Fiancee's Son Legally? by Richy4(m): 9:58pm On May 07, 2021
If you were in love with the mom... and the step son is gonna be living with you, who will he see as a father figure?...If you treat him the way you will be treating your own son, is there really a need for that?.....in my opinion that's enough....

OP, the question I have to ask you is this, If you have a baby mama somewhere and you heard that a man who intend to marry your baby mama was planning adopting your child, would you be happy? even if you were not present in the child's life... If your answer is no,

Then tell her that you cannot do that to a fellow man like you irrespective of their differences which was in the past...That if someone should do that to you, that you will not like it...Just assure her that whatever a father will do for a son to be successful, that you will do that for the boy.. that your word is your bond....I understand she wants to secure the future of the boy but it doesn't work that way.. You don't need going into any legal procedures...

I personally don't know the extent the parents uphold cultural belief.

Why hair style means nothing to some parents so far the couple love themselves, it's a red flag for others.

He is not sure the side of coin this visit may flip.
Boldness is the key... He knows what he wants... He's a man on a mission... let him use that to strengthen himself ... it's not as if he was going to take a loan from the bank that he should be afraid on bad outcome.. ...He wants to make his intension known to the parent that he was dating their daughter... He has never said he will marry her yet...It's just for them to know whom their daughter was rolling with...

Appearance is out of courtesy... If someone doesn't like you, if you like put on a reverend fathers cloth, it will not make any difference... He should just be himself and not talk too much... If he's the proud/ pompous/ braggard type, I might be mistaken to advise him to be himself don't you think?

The hair cut is one of the issues here as guy man is an upcoming singer but uses his hair cut style as his own branding.

Would he need to shave it off just to look presentable?

What if afterwards the parents saw his branding elsewhere won't that look pretentious?
If he got hair style, brand or whatever u call it, He should wear traditional and put on a hat that covers 60% of the hair... it's respectful enough... No big deal

Parents don't discipline their kids anymore... Teacher... (God bless them) have washed their hands off discipline for fear of the parents... As long as they receive alert that payment has entered into their account, they are ok with it...

If you talk to them, the parents will say their children were traumatized by what the teacher said... A teacher will write a report based on what he/she has observed on a report card, instead of the parent to take note and do some necessary correction as a parent, he/she demands that the teacher should be sacked....So why won't a 16yr old have the boldness to post this?

<<<<Is Christianity existing in 21st century?..... yes
<<<<Has Outcast been abolished?.... Yes
<<<<So what's the problem?.....Systematic segregation and stigmatization....

I feel really bad that good looking men/women would be branded/ painted to an unidentified colour because of some long aged tradition that does nothing but tarnish images....

If you are sure that you don't need your family for anything in this lifetime for any kind of support especially Financially, then you can go ahead and marry him... but If you do, and still marry him, then depression will set in infuture because of how they will act toward you especially when kids starts rolling out... They might not want to come for child dedication.. and if they do, they will be acting like visitors and will not be free... due to ignorance....

If you are sure that you can walk on the street of your community especially during xmas with your kids who came to visit grandma without fear that someone will make derogatory statement like( she is X the daughter of Mazi ABC that married an Osu) then you can go ahead...

I don't know when this will stop... But in churches in Igbo like Protestant churches in early 2000, I am aware that they preach against it... but when it's time to get married, the Priests/Pastors do not marry Osu to show an example to the people...

If your love is stronger than all these stigmatization, then you can go ahead... But I have to let you know that stigmatization about cast system is real.... It's gonna be like Megan and Harry... but the difference is that it's the same colour that were carrying out the nonsense,....
