It is a scam because ''WE'' did not win it or we just don't believe anything from MTN? Is the ''5 times promo'' a scam too? I can bet 99% of those saying scam benefitted from it. Nairalanders hate MTN but all of them seceretly go back and load credit on the same line and network they love to hate. If MTN is a scam network, why did we all look forward to this plane thing with so much interest? Are we seceretly hoping someday MTN will change our fortune and the more we hope and wait the more frustrated we get because it may never happen. |
Kechybee: D Aeroplane in question is actually called "CESSNA 182T" as stated also by MTN. The Cessna 182T Skylane is an American four-seat, single-engine, light airplane, built by Cessna of Wichita, Kansas. It has the option of adding two child seats, installed in the baggage area. It's worth about USD$398,100 to USD$410,000. The problem with Nigerians remains that we dont read and we dont pay attention to details. From the very first day I saw that advert, I noticed the name of the Aeroplane and decided to enquire more via google and other search engines. The naira equivalent of the plane is actually N64,million which is what the girl chose. We all have and use blackberry and other internet enabled devices yet we dont use them well. U guys saying N64million cant buy a plane should google and learn more about CESSNA-182T to find out how big or how small and how much it costs. It is actually smaller than a helicopter, but d fact is dat it's an aeroplane. Enough of d insults on MTN pls.It is the ''follow follow'' mentality of nairalanders. most are just hating because others are doing it. The winner and everyother facts needed to verify this promo can be found online |

The biggest promo in telecoms is not even this MTN win a plane stuff. ETISALAT FIRST PROMO IS ONE MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE WINNER. Where is the winner now? Anyway, why would MTN lie about a 64million naira plane? As I am typing this response, they have made more than that in Lagos alone. MTN turnover at least 2billion naira daily. You guys better believe. |
bigx: I loaded 1500, used 11 naira of my 1500 and today I can't find it, is that a promo? I didn't even touch the so-called Bonus credit. If they where doing something as drastic as wiping out the airtime you bought shouldn't there be a clear warning to that effect? You use a lot of their product, and am sure you must have being using them for years. You should have tried to contact customer care through the available channels instead of coming to a faceless forum to try and slander them |
victorD3: Rotimi Amechi is gathering more money for his 2015 vice presidency campaignVice presidents need not capaign |
Xano: it worked for me. I recharged on saturday, receieved 100% bonus. I checked it with *888#. When i typed the code, i saw the amount i recharged and also saw the bonus. To check it, type *889#. I made calls, it worked. I finished mine before it expired on sunday night. This exactly how it works. IT IS AS SIMPLE AS ABC. THE BRING THEM DOWN CREW DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT |
Your normal credit is your credit that can be used anytime. Your bonus credit is credit that must be used within the stipulated time. If you check your bonus after the expiry period, of course you will see zero (0:00) as your balance. A window is put on the bonus credit because people will just accumulate credits for no reason, that is why it is not rolled over to the next day ( some load as much as 10K daily ). The bonus is just targeted at the 100 naira 200 naira people in the real sense, anyone that loads 3k and above daily doesnt necessarily need the bonus ( Are they going to make calls up to 9000 naira to mtn numbers daily? ) You also have the option of using the network that is not a scam. I am suprised and shocked that MTN is a scam thread makes the front page weekly on nairaland for the past 2 years and people still can not leave the network. Are we just obsessed with MTN or we are just Liars? If MTN is a store that sells FMCG, they should be out of bussiness with the effort nairalanders put into bringing them down. |
"ACCORDING TO JIM" is the funniest series ever |

FULHAM DESERVES TO LOSE! Arsenal finished the better side. What a game! !! |
It all depends on how one looks at it. I think the positives far out weighs the negatives of this scheme. If most of the peeps going for this have a plan, in a few years, they may have left most of their colleagues in other sectors far behind in terms of achievement. |
The day I realized how much makeup artists charge for weddings, I just told my unemployed fiance " look no more, I VE FOUND A JOB FOR YOU! " I was excited because, anyone that is cool and calm can learn in a few months. I paid for her training and her first job she got 35k. Now she charges between 50 and 70k ( naira ) and she gets called almost all weekends. Sometimes she travels. One of the smartest decisions I ve made in my life. She has time and she makes money doing what she likes. Instead of complaining, why not tap into it? There is money to be made in this country I swear! |
Because they like one another ... Seriously, if the girls involved are 18 and above then this thread serves no purpose. What makes you think the young girls don't like the old men? |
bright007: ..stop exhibiting foolishness here jare....when I was in ss3,I was a member of Jet club where we constructed a ll manners of devices ranging from fridge, fan, toys etc.people with nothing upstairs are always quick to insult. You are the fool! |
bright007: ...boobsqee or whatever you call yourself,I have always known that you did not attend classes when you were in pry school but don't know if you have turned a new leaf now that you are in secondary school....You are wrong. JETS club and national competition threw up better stuffs than this in late 80's till mid 90's and it was on TV It is unfortunate that what we get to see on TV these days are mainly talent shows promoting singing, dancing and acting. |
He should tackle corrouption sincerely and everything else will fall into place. Lack of electricity, security challenges are all offsprings of a critically coroupt system. What needs to be done in this country is so much that if all the funds are judiciously used, and corrouption is to the barest minimum, UNEMPLOYMENT WILL ALSO DISAPPEAR. Do we all know that AJAOKUTA alone if up and runing can employ all our engineering gradutes in one scoop and there will still be space for those yet to graduate? |
Very informative. I need an explanation for this please. I noticed sometime 2 months ago that my call credit was being systematically deducted by the Glo network. After about 4 days and N600 had disappeared without me making any calls, I called glo customer care. I was told that perhaps I was visiting some sites that charge extra aside from your monthly pre paid rates, and was advised to 'downgrade' from 3G to 'EDGE'. I've been on EDGE since and found it works just fine too. Until last week when Glo network had problems which affected me for days. On reporting again at their office, the customer care agent set my phone once again to 3G and I noticed my bb started working immediately. Since then, I've not been able to browse again on 'EDGE'(in capital letters). Rather, it goes to 'edge' (small letters), in which case, I can't do anything on the net. So, I'm now on 3G permanently. My fear now is that if I so much as go to some sites, I might be charged money, hence, even using google these days is with caution. Please someone, enlighten me so I can once again enjoy my browsing experience
edge on your phone instead of EDGE is an issue with the network provider not your phone. Unless your BB subscription has expired. Using 3G on your phone should also not inccur additional charges. Just make sure you visit those sites less and you should be fine |
Paxchal: Thanks.Yes, most recently realeased BB'S supports 3G. Also, there is no LTE network in Nigeria yet. All networks and ISP claiming LTE are liars because no one has been issued a licence for LTE yet in Nigeria. What we currently have is Wimax which is not supported on phones yet. But Wimax can deliver speeds close to that of LTE |
All speeds are dependent on the number of users using the network at a time. They are maximum speed possible not speeds you will get on your device. eg If you are the only one using a 3G site at a time, then you will get that maximum speed. Also, it is not all mobile devices ( phones , modems ) that can deliver these maximum speeds. Therefore number of uplink and dwonlink channels designed for the phone also matters. At the end of the day, if a netwrok supports HSDPA and on a site, and 200 people are comunicating on the site at once, the speed available may not be upto EDGE speed at that time although it is an HSDPA site. That is why we get faster dwonloads at night when most people are sleeping. |
Nigerians are funny . The same people that complains MTN rates are expensive are now angry calls are cheaper and there credits isn't deducted because of bonus ![]() |
el wino: @Linearity, Then it may surprise you that MTN is already test running LTE in Abuja on a pivot run. This is being done with Huawei as their partner, Airtel is also working on deploying some LTE nodes and are also working with Huawei on same. What most of them don't know is MTN will invest close to $1billion in two years on their network in Nigeria alone. That's a lot and I don't expect them not to get it right with such a huge investment |
mu2sa2: many people hav tied themselves to mtn as if they own shares in it. mtn is always coming up with one gimmick or another, but when sim portability is introduced (in December?) many nigerians will surely abandon the useless network while keeping their mtn number. Are you so sure about this? If free sims and 100naira sims did not make people leave, what make you think number portability will? The power to choose is already in thier hands, they just made a choice to stay |
ceejayluv: The same Hauwei and ZTE that the US govt were advised to avoid because of involvement of Chinese espionage? Why wont the US governmnt use propaganda? Huawei from nowhere took a large chunk of telecoms equipme supply globaly and gave ERICSON,ALCTEL AND SIEMENS a good run for their money. All operators in Nigeria are using chinese equipments, only the core node are left with ericsson. GLO is also deploying ZTE and swapping out Alcatel on their access nodes. Everyone is looking for a way to deliver a quality network at low CAPEX that also require little OPEX. Not a mean feat for operators in Nigeria where the catch and retention of most subscribers is offering them freebies. |
Super1759: are you mtn Nigeria's general manager?GM ? No, I am just a guy interested in what is happening in the industry. ![]() |
MTN is doing a complete overhaul of thier network. Due to the increased demand for broadband from mobile users, access nodes that support bursty traffic are being deployed. Eg if you are chatting and during same chat u need to send a video, your demand for capacity suddenly increases, which the current network hardly supports. When the modernization project is over, more sites and cities will be on 3G, almost all states capital will have a fibre metro, and both TDM and IP network will be made available. Also, the network will be LTE ready. Almost all the network have HSDPA but what makes Etisalat the best is theirs is IP network which delivers flexible capacity as required. They are doing all this on a live network with millions of subscribers so there will be issues. It is a task that must be done based on what future mobile telecoms network will be delivering. Yes, they have issues now but if they get it right, subscribers will sing a different song. I hope some of my giberish makes sense. |
The problem with us as a people is not colonialism. I cant not believe people with common sense actually believe a certain set of people are below them, and should not be seen wearing the same kind of clothing with them. No wonder we all deserve the kind of leaders we get. What kind of leaders will these youths turn out to be? The one that will say " phones are not meant for the poor " . We all go to church and mosques but deep down we are the most selfish set of people on earth. Why wont people in government steal billions meant for everyone? Because they also feel you are below them, so they block the roads, close the airports etc when they are moving. IT ALL STARTS WITH THE SAME THOUGHT PROCESS BEING DISPLAYED ON THIS THREAD |

CHELSEA NOW HAVE THE BEST MIDFIELD IN EUROPE. MATA, HAZARD, OSCAR AND RAMIRES COMBO IS A BEAUTY TO BEHOLD |
Igbos want Biafra but they can't resist leaving the same region they love so much in droves. They claim they developed Lagos and Abuja and own all the bussinesses in these two cities but they are finding it so hard to replicate the same things in their so much loved Biafra. If Igbos are serious about Biafra, the first step is to go back into the region, develop it , stay there and hold your protests there. All these free at last on Nairaland means nothing. You all need to go back to Biafra or Igbo land first! No one is stopping you from doing that. |
All these anomalies needs to be corrected. By throughly going through all the posts I can confidently say the North has reaped where they did not sow. |
