Politics › Re: Should Ojukwu Apologise For The Civil War? by rolchi(m): 2:16pm On Jun 07, 2011 |
Over the years, I've had cause and opportunity to research enormously on issues concerning the war and where there are/were fault lines. As an Igboman, as nwa afor Igbo, this is my take on Alabi-Isama's statement, in the context of my personal research and results.
Apologies should be a two-way process and not one way.
Yes, Ojukwu should apologise to Ndigbo for he's egocentric attitude which led us to war without adequate preparation for such a war. Its like someone who never prepared for an exam and then goes into the exam hall "confident" that he/she will pass through. It doesn't work like that. There was also no need for him to try and secede Ndigbo from a country in which Ndigbo were not only a majority in, but also significantly represented in the fight for independence and were adequately represented in the federal coalition government while being in firm control of the eastern region. His political calculations were wrong. Apart from his unpreparedness, his stubborn attitude towards the advise of some other similarly senior officers, much older Ndigbo like Zik etc, and other Nigerians in the likes of Wole Soyinka, conspicuously exposed his persona as an extremely uncompromising figure - a significant factor which lost us the war (Effiong and Ikot Ekpene saga).
On the other hand, Nigeria should apologise to Ndigbo for the war cos there was no need to be aggressive on civilians and even the soldiers. They simply should have seen it as a "giant" misunderstanding between Ojukwu and Gowon and not Nigerians as a whole vs Biafra.
But all these views are just the benefits of hindsight. If Biafra won the war, Ojukwu would have been a demigod as of now.
BTW, if I existed at the time and was of fighting age, however I might disagree with Ojukwu's stance, I would never had stepped aside like Zik, to watch my own people slaughtered by enemies (or once countrymen). This is where I differ with Zik. His disagreement with Ojukwu shouldn't have led to him backing-off at the expense of not supporting his own people. I hate him for this.
But in all of this, Ndigbo were the sole casualties not Nigeria nor Ojukwu for, the latter later got all his properties after returning as an "escaped" general while, it allowed the former to properly institutionally marginalise Ndigbo fully over the years as a result of a misunderstanding.
If my brothers and sisters on this thread are going to vilify me for my views here then, I guess a man in my person can take so much for I know I spoke(wrote) out my views - which will escort me to the grave. Nwanna, you spoke the truth! |
Christianity Etc › Re: Daddy Adeboye Is Innocent by rolchi(m): 2:10pm On Jun 07, 2011 |
When people talk of religion, they become so emotional that they fail to be objective in their judgements and assessments. People have lashed out at Pentecostals calling them "Penterascals". I hear you all. However, I do not want to join issues but will try to be a little more objective and not allow my emotions or filial attachments to becloud my judgements. Yes, there have been so many stories about our"men of God" in the Pentecostal domain and not all of them palatable. Here on NL, we have talked about "Baby Factories", Bishop David Oyedepo and many others. They are all doing something that attracts attention and that is the truth, some are positive and some overtly positive but covertly damaging. However, I implore all to respect all those who make good their calling by God. To such men, continue in ypur good works, God is with you to prove your works! When it comes to miracles or the lifestyle of "people of the collar", it cuts accross all denominations. Yes, we heard how Baby Factory beat up his wife, Benny Hinn Divorced, the Pastor of Glory Church in London in jail, Bishop Eddie Long, the list continues. But we also hear of Priest of the Roman Catholic Faith in Sex Scandals. We heard of the former Archbishop of Benin Archdioceses, His Grace Richard Burke in Nigeria and others. WE also hear of Anglican Priests in Europe becoming Homosexuals, so what are we talking about ? Now to miracles, Pentecostals Pastor claim they perform miracles, some are indeed questionable but it cuts across. Let me ask my dear Catholic Friends, the Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel S. Edeh of Madonna in Elele also performs miracles and his parish is now a pilgrimage center. How about the Very Rev. Fr. Mbaka of Enugu? These are Roman Catholic Priests too. You need to be in their services to hear of the ear-tingling miracles too, to any objective person, these miracles too are also questionable, nonetheless. The Madonna University has been built and again, let me ask how the respected Rev. Fr built it. Did he get money from Rome or the offerings and thanksgiving sacrifices of his parishioners or pilgrims? Did the Catholic Bishops give him the money? I heard he also is the proprietor of the Caritas University. So, what are we talking about? If some one claims Adeboye was instrumental in raising the dead, then we should look at it at its own singular merit and not bring the ecclesiastical into disrepute generally! They may all have faults but again, we first became humans before we became Christians, we are all humans and each with its faults. I rest my case!!! |

What will he do to IMSU, Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Imo State Polytechnic, and othe secondary schools like Holy Ghost, Bishop Shanahan, Emmanuel, Owerri Girls, etc. You need to visit these schools to know that free education with out a quality environment to reinforce the learning and quality teaching staff to support the initiate is a mirage. If you come from a background where such a thing doesn't matter then go ahead and marry her. However, from your post, you are concerned about how family and friends will take it. So,it means that it matters a lot. If you have had a peaceful and loving relationship with your family and friends and you are about to do anything that makes them uneasy then think it through very well because their perspective is very likely the right one and your emotion filled perspective is very likely wrong.
All that said. Does it occur to you that her sweetness may just be a marketing strategy? If she was really that sweet how come all men didn't notice it till she is now 34? You have known her for just 6 months. Have you tried to find out (from real sources independent of what she tells you) how she lived her life from age 0-34?
I hear many people saying you shouldn't bother about what family and friends say. That it is her you are marrying and it is the love between you two that matters. Please don't ever try that western stewpeedity. It doesn't work here. Neither does it work there (because their divorce rate is about 48% http://www.divorcerate.org/). We African's may be lagging in technology but our principles of marriage are far better than the west. Here, a marriage is between one set of family and friends and another set of family and friends. So,if you are the only one seeing her sweetness and your family and friends don't see it, you better think well. Good Word, Broda, consider this deeply. If you eventually decide to go ahead, make it a low key one and tone down the age (I mean, keep it secret between and your wife), otherwise |

Re: FOI Law: CPC Lauds President « #16 on: Today at 08:45:47 AM » CPC as a party should forget about the presidency at least for the next 100 years. We should be talking about ACN or any other progressive party at this time. The foundation of CPC is horribly faulty and no structure can stand on it in the near term. The only thing they can do is to completely rebrand by breaking down the foundation, digging new trenches and starting all over again (probably with a new name). Family › Re: Can I Marry and run a family With A Salary Of 120k per month? by rolchi(m): 1:31pm On Jun 02, 2011 |
Dear evilspirit, there is something you are not telling yourself. Marriage is not something you do based on your present capability or selfworth but on your capacity to develop and grow. When choosing a partner, it must be one that can support and encourage, not one that expects. Expectations are like time, it is limitless but unlike time can be unrealisable and unreasonable.
If you can not manage 120k per monthe with a woman, I doubt if you will be able to manage 1m per month. Your friends earn more than twice your salary, yet it is not enough to get them married. It is because they set their espectations too high and I doubt if they even have any savings.
Life is about sacrifice and discipline, particularly in how we handle our finances. If you are not disciplined enough in your finances, even with 500k per month you will not be able to cope.
If you want to grow quickly, start a home now on your current income and plan your life and your future with your wife. Your wife may be used to life of affluence because her family can afford it. If she insist on that as a minimum for marriage, then you are in a wrong set up except her family or yours will continue to subsidise your marriage until you find your financial bearing.
Remember, her income has nothing to do with your capability, if you rely on her income be ready to concede a lot of things to her otherwise there will be crises. Her income is to support you not to provide for you and that support must not be an obligation on her.
If you believe you can grow financially, go ahead with your marriage plan but first sit down with your woman and discuss truthfully.
I wish you all the best. Remember, very very few rich men marry rich. Good Word, well spoken. Thanks |

How can you take Bakare seriously. A pastor that excuses the killing of Christians can never be taking seriously. the guy has completely disgraced himself and posterity will judge him.c
As for Uduaghan, i dont like him but it is wrong for people to say things like if he wins, it must be rigging and if he looses then its free and fare. This was the same kind of wrong statements Buhari was making that led to the murders and destructions. Elections are not won by assumptions on a forum. They are won by people on the ground. Being from delta state, I dont like Uduaghan, but the opposition has not had enough alliances to win the PDP. most of the anioma people will continue to vote PDP, same goes for most of Ijaws and Itshekiris. It is not enough to like somebody, the political calculations and alliances determine who wins elections not how nice a person looks. Ogboru has not really reached out to these segments of people. I will be surprised if he wins. It is the same thing Buhari did, relying on his popularity with Almajiris in the north. He never even bothered to campaign in the SE and SS. He had minimal campaigns in the SW. So how was he supposed to win? GEJ the whole time was ramming his campaign down the throats of every Nigerian from North to South.
We should always make balanced political comments, not sentimental ones. Exactly Correct! |

Jenny, I wish you well but be very careful, talk to your heart and listen to your head! I have been working in oil/gas since i completed my NYSC and trust me, I have seen, met and talked with many Lebanese. All manner, I have seen. I mean, I have seen all manner of persons!
Yes, there are exceptions, very well agree. But let me ask you, ho many Indian Men have you seen with a Nigerian Wife? Sister, I know a Lebanese who has worked in Nigeria for ages and could even travel on Nigerian roads to many place in this country by himself unaided, but he has a wife in Lebanon!
Look deeply, search seriously before you make the final choice (as there could be exceptions), but know this, he may one day succumb to the pressure from home (Dearie, it is possible).
Make allowances for all these and I wish you luck. |
