RomanceHow Much Is Coke In UK? by Rubyjade(op): 8:52pm On May 28, 2023
Written by INDUSTRIALFAN

How much is a bottle of coke in UK?
How much is minimum wage in UK?
How much is house rent for 2 bed room flat in UK
?

I always say this to people, this mindset is ignorant. I was on 230k before I left Nigeria and I must say my first 5 months in the UK as a cleaner was waaaaay better than I was for over 3 years in Lagos.

When people think the UK is expensive, I laugh. I laugh because there’s a lot of places in the UK you can live that are not expensive.

Most people think of UK and the place that comes to their minds to have a life is London or other expensive places when you literally can live in Aberdeen (which is where I live.) as a cleaner on £1k(after tax) monthly then, I got a 2 bedroom house on Broomhill Road (view pictures of the neighborhood on google) and the rent was £550 (still is) got a flat mate to take the second room and we split rent in 2 making my share of the rent £275 a month and an extra 50 for light and heating bringing total bill to £325/ month leaving me with £675. Out of that, £100 goes for monthly groceries, £57 goes for my monthly bus ticket leaving me with £518… if I need to flex, £200 will do A WHOLE LOT (and I’m an introvert…. A pack of beer and PS5 or a movie are my flex and pack of beer no even reach £10) and I’ll still have over £300 to save (which is more actually because I no de use up to £200 flex).

Now in UK sef, £300(assuming i kuku flexed with £200) is a lot of money saved. Now convert that 300 pounds to naira… that’s over NGN 280k in savings monthly after all my expenses even if I wan flex……. How many of you can comfortably save that amount after all your expenses in Nigeria (single or married) even with your supposed high paying jobs?
(Note: this calculation is on the earning of a cleaner and not a high end job.)

See payslip below…. Also note that this pay came from working less than 4hrs on some days and maximum of 4 hours on some other days….

How many hours a day do you have to work daily every day to earn 150k in Nigeria again?

I can give you a web project, but I pay per project. You must be good and not be some useless developers I employed from Nairaland in the past.
They get paid upfront and run. None of them can claim I owe them. I can start tagging them here. They are a bunch of lazy developers.
Try LinkedIn and indeed for developers.

Jobs/VacanciesYour First Job Is Most Likely Not Going To Be Your Dream Job by Rubyjade(op): 4:29pm On May 26, 2023
Your first job is most likely not going to be your dream job. But it is going to have the biggest impact on your career journey. Here’s how to navigate it:

Starting out your first job may be disappointing at first.

You would find yourself waiting for the next move or still actively searching for jobs.

However, if you are not careful, you may make crucial mistakes that can limit your actual career when you land your dream job.

🔴 How hard you work:

You may be tempted not to work too hard because afterall, it is not your dream job. You may want to reserve your energy for the ‘main’ job.

But you hurt your career by doing a less than satisfactory job. You hurt people who are invested in your growth. You hurt people who are likely to give you a referral.

Dream job or not, give your job your very best effort.

🟣 How eager you are to learn:

Truth be told, during my first job, I was not so enthusiastic about learning. I felt ‘afterall, I am just waiting for the main thing’. Little did I realize that that was the main thing.

Don’t be like me. Show eagerness to learn. Show willingness to work. This would help you in attracting more opportunities.

🟢 The skills you acquire:

Perhaps this is the most important thing you can acquire from your first job. The skills you acquire from your first job is for life.

You would learn from mentors who are willing to see you grow. You learn more about processes, systems and the practicalities of the industry you are in.

So I would advice you, even if your job is not your dream job, give it all you can.

Your first job forms the crucial foundation for your career and if you take it for granted, you may have many regrets later on.

I hope this helps you as you navigate your entry level stages.
Jobs/VacanciesI Almost Didn’t Graduate From High School by Rubyjade(op): 3:48pm On May 26, 2023
I almost didn’t graduate from high school 😳🤯

Now, I’m a ....... because I…

‼️Changed my diet and exercise regularly.

🧠 I struggled to take tests in high school. My brain isn't wired to work in complete silence, so testing was extremely stressful AND my diet wasn’t great.

🥑 Now, I make sure I have a high protein diet and fast regularly to improve my concentration.

💪I exercise every day even if it’s just a long walk to get my 10k steps in 🚶

😖 Many of us face a silent battle when it comes to stress, and nutrition is a great solution.

🤩 Optimal nutrition can be used to combat the effects of stress.

🧠 Serotonin - the neurotransmitter that’s responsible for regulation mood, sleep and even appetite is made in the gut.

😩Anxiety & depressed are linked to serotonin levels, so if your microbiome is full of ramen noodles, then your serotonin production might not be sufficient.

Life can be stressful, there’s no getting around it so…

Eat well, stay active & watch your stress levels reduce and then don’t be surprised when you start smashing all of your personal goals! 🔥

🥦

P.S. I'm working out today. Who's with me?! 💪🔥

Dear Vendors, Accountants are not trying to cheat you when they deduct WHT from your invoices.

Please note that companies are MANDATED by law to deduct Withholding tax (WHT) on all invoices processed (except those specifically exempted by the law) and failure to do so would result in penalty.

As a vendor, you need to understand that WHT is an advance payment of Income tax. It is usually deducted from your invoice and remitted to the government on your behalf.

What this means is, at the end of the year when you are about to pay your tax liability to the government, you can always use all the tax credits you’ve gotten from WHT to reduce it.

For instance:
Let’s assume there is a company called QUICKQUICK LTD and during the course of the year, their clients deducted WHT on their invoices to a tune of N6m. After their tax computation for the year they had an income tax liability of N30m. Now the company will only have to pay N24m to the government after considering the tax credit of 6m.

It is also your duty as a vendor to follow up with your client to ensure that all WHT deducted from your invoices are correctly and timely remitted to the appropriate authority on your behalf.

With this said, I hope we Accountants get more cooperation from you🤝.

3. Practice mindfulness through daily journaling to find your inner compass.

Jobs/VacanciesThere Is No Paycheck Worth Your Mental Health by Rubyjade(op): 7:20pm On May 25, 2023
Even for the most high-performing, career-driven people, work does get overwhelming. It’s important to consciously protect your mental health if you want to continue thriving at work.

Here are 5 tips for guarding your mental health at work

1. Exercise regularly and sleep well

Studies have shown that exercise can improve your mental health, and sleep deprivation has been linked to poor mental health. So, try to exercise every other day, and of course, prioritize sleep.

2. Identify what or who triggers you.

Try speaking to people who trigger you—speak of their action and its direct impact on you to avoid sounding emotive. You can also choose to steer clear of your triggers.

3. Take a break

Burnout is real, and if you don’t voluntarily take a break, your body will take an involuntary one for you.

4. Make time for things you love doing

Your work should be built around your life not the other way around. You’re more than your career. Find purpose outside your work.

5. Seek help from a professional or support from loved ones

Sometimes, all you need is to feel heard and understood. Talking with a therapist or loved one may give you just that, and help you process your thoughts and feelings healthier.

And remember, there is no paycheck worth your mental health.

Please I need your opinions to these question of mine,

Is it right to deduct statutory deductions (precisely, Pension and PAYE) from an employee salary without remittance for the 3months the employee is under probation?
Here, that is the management practices, that statutory deductions be made, but remittance is after 3months of the probation

Also, in the eyes of the Nigeria labor or related law, can this management practice out rule it when there is a case?

Thank you.

Jobs/VacanciesDear Hods, Managers, Employees, by Rubyjade(op): 10:11am On May 25, 2023
Dear HODs, Managers, Employees,

If you have a bad attitude work on yourself, HR is not a babysitter neither is any employee in the Organisation.

Grow up and do it all quickly.

It is essential for us to maintain a positive restful work environment. I believe there is a need in fostering a culture of professionalism and maturity within our organization. There we should reflect on our attitudes and behaviours to ensure a harmonious workplace.

When you have a misunderstanding with any colleague deal with it maturely.

When someone in the office tells you what you don't like, don't come to the office raising your voice to anyone because you are addressing the issue, you did not pay anyone's school fees.

Don't come using vulgar language on any employee and expect everyone to accept it because it is who you are.

No matter how angry you are, abusive words don't justify your feelings. Nobody is born to condone your rudeness and unethical bad behaviour. Ethics don't bend to your feelings!

If you are struggling with a bad attitude there are resources available to help you. The HR can provide you with guidance and support and also talk to a therapist or a counsellor.

It is important to remember that you are not alone. Many people struggle with a bad attitude. By working on yourself u can make a positive difference in your workplace.

Here are some tips for dealing with a bad attitude in the workplace:

Talk to the person directly: if the person hurts you, it is important to talk to them directly. Be honest and respectful, and try to understand why they are behaving the way they are

Report the behavior to HR: If someone is creating a hostile work environment, you should report the behavior to HR. Hr will investigate and take appropriate action.

Take care of yourself: A bad attitude can be stressful. Make sure to take care f yourself by getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and exercising regularly.

Let's all take responsibility for our own attitudes and actions, as professionals we cannot act as babysitters. Each of us plays a role in creating a positive and exclusive environment. Nigeria is already "triple" stressful don't make the workplace more.

But if you decide not to change we will take to you back to kindergarten.

CareerI Have Had A Lot Of Persons Ask How To Navigate The ICAN System by Rubyjade(op): 9:37am On May 25, 2023
I have had a lot of persons ask how to Navigate the ICAN system, so I will be putting out below some tips that can help. This is also important as some of us have to combine studying with Full-time work.

1. Know thyself: This cannot be over-emphasized. For you to carry on with any activities, you need to first-off understand who you are. That Mr. A did it in 1 year does not mean Mr. B can do same within the same period. It's okay to push yourself to aspire but be sure it isn't above your limit.
Some persons are great night readers while others can only function effectively in the day time. If you fall within this category that only means you may have to sacrifice a lot of socials to maximize your time and come out successfully.
While some persons learn effectively by listening, others learn really well by reading. If you can combine both Beautiful.

2. Tution Centre: There are a lot of great tution centre out there. Find one that is close to you for proximity. Why spend over 3 hours(For Lagosian) comuting when you can sit and study with same time.
As much as possible, avoid over crowdy centres, this is important to avoid feeling lost and unable to ask questions in class.
I consider YOUTUBE the greatest tution centre, as this is the option i utilized the most, this is because it also allows me the opportunity to rewind and unwind any grey areas. Good thing is YOUTUBE is mostly free. I know MTN affords us free youtube packages, you can download your desire videos at night and learn with it at any time you wish. Some suggested page of great help is
a. Tolu Herself-She teaches SFM, TAX and Advanced TAX
b. Ezikan Accounting-MI, FR, CR
c.Nhyira Premium-MI,CSME,PSAF,Audit,SFM et all, his page was the most useful for me.
d. You can use the youtube search button and find tutors of preference.

3. Reading Partner: Get one or two dedicated reading Partner, It doesn't necessarily have to be an offline meeting, you can make use of zoom or Watsapp. I and my reading partner used watsapp the most. Be sure that your partner is aligned, dedicated and accountable.

4. You don't need to write all paper in a diet. If you work 9-5 and your job can be quite challenging and engaging, ICAN permits you to write as minimum as one paper per diet, You aren't in a race with anyone. Your goal should be to write one at every diet. I particularly will advise to do minimum of 3, cause if you can write one, why not 3. good thing is the exams can be related. During my professional stage, it was my learning from CR that helped me ace Case study and AAA.

5. Did i miss anything? Ask your questions, I would definitely create time to attend to it

RomanceWhy Do Married Men Cheat On Their Wives Instead Of Leaving Them? by Rubyjade(op): 6:15pm On May 24, 2023
What first needs to be answered is when is a ‘marriage’ no longer a marriage.

I know guys that wanted a happy physical relationship with their wife. Loved them, desired them.

BUT their wives would have none of it.

My own ex clearly stated that no one needs sex after 50. That sex is not necessary. ( note she is now my ex)

I asked her if she believed it was a right she had to control or ignore the fact that I had physical desires. She replied she definitely did. What I thought I needed was not important. The fact that she removed from our marriage what was important to me, because she believed she had a right without consulting me, is a message that a major part of our ‘marriage’ was over.

We went to counseling, and she reinforced her position. People do not have sex after 50 and there was no budging.

I did not have a sexual affair, but I will admit to opening myself up to ‘dating’ other women. Just being able to sit and have a coffee and conversation rather than my ex’s “10 words or less” if I wanted to discuss my day was needed.

WHAT most people do not understand, both men and women, is that men are much more intimacy needing than women realize and that men want to admit. Men are supposed to be ‘big tough guys’ that don’t need ‘emotional stuff’ .. Bull… We melt if a woman gently caresses our hand or our neck. We crave that kind of affection.

Many men that ‘cheat’ do not want to leave their wives, they want to feel desired and cared about preferably with their wives, but when that is not possible, they are easy targets for any woman that will provide, even if for only a few moments.

AND understand, it is not always about inserting TAB A into SLOT B, it is about intimacy, compassion and yes, indeed passion.

I expect back lash from this answer. Most women will speak out, because they want to believe that their husband is supposed to tow the line and ignore what he needs, and disregard that it is probably them he desires.

This may be considered totally sexist… but most men desire their wives, but those wives do not express that they desire their husbands.

If love and desire and intimacy has been taken away, is there still a marriage?
Jobs/VacanciesNot All Job Offers Are Destined To Be Your Next Big Move! by Rubyjade(op): 5:37pm On May 24, 2023
Not all Job Offers are destined to be your next big move!

Pray for your next employment,
Pray that it is a good place,
Pray that you don't leave a good place for a toxic place,
Pray that you truly should make the right move,
One wrong move can alter the plans of your life!

No matter how juicy some offers are, if your spirit does not give you the go-ahead don't take such offers.

Not all juicy offers are good, some are death traps. Pray before going for the interviews, and pray before accepting a job offer.

I know at least 4 people who took juicy offers and their lives changed for the worse.

Case 1
Dota (not his real name) got a new job offer that required him to make out-of-station travels, his previous job did not offer him such an opportunity. 3 months into his new job, he was traveling on an official assignment by road because it was a short distance, he had an accident and lost his two legs. Long story short...he was fired despite his predicament.

Case 2
Chike (not his real name) got a very juicy offer where he would be paid in dollars, he was earning 850k net salary in his previous place of work so this new place was a jump on. Five months in his new place, he found some shady things. Long story short, he and the CEO were arrested, as they were in a Ponzi scheme business.

Case 3
Blessings (not her real name) got an offer like everyone else she was happy. 6 months into this new place, she was an exceptional employee, there was a conspiracy against her that was so dirty, they somehow cooked up false evidence that led to her employment being terminated and her professional reputation tarnished-along with the trauma.

Case 4
Joyce (not her real name) got a new offer after six months of confirmation, she became ill and needed to use her HMO. On getting to the hospital her plan did not cover the illness, and before the family could round for the required funds, she had passed on.

Some offers are death traps! Pray well before accepting any offer. A seemingly stale career is better than no career at all.
