Aftermath of this ASUU protest.
1. Each University will be forced to look inwards to meet their needs. School fees will be sky rocketed. I forsee Universities students paying up 400,000K per session in not too distant future.

Nigeria is in shambles only God can help us.
I agree with you that we need God's help in Nigeria.

On University students paying 400k per session in the foreseeable future is bad news for the poor, but in the long run it may turn out to be the breakthrough we need in our education sector.

How do I mean?

Many departments in our universities will be forced to review their curriculum to make it more competitive or they will just go 'extinct'. Many lecturers will be forced to wake up or they will have no students to teach.
For instance I cannot as a parent, pay 400k per session for a course that will have no relevance in the present Nigeria job market.
Many courses, as are being taught in our universities today, is more or less a complete waste of 4 or 5 years.

This country can induce depression to it's citizens for nothing.
lol..

I would have love to compete the gist but this is a public forum, and I am very mindful of that.

Some Lecturers are not encouraging at all. That singular encounter derailed my ambition of going into the academia.

However, I am grateful to God for where I am today. Given what I have seen here, my take home pay is not too far from that of a Prof.

You better stop saying rubbish and desist from propagating lies. I know what every academic lecturer earns which depends in their level and step and their other allowances varies depending on the institution.
You didn't address the situation where most professors start coming to class few weeks to the exam; where academic staff teaches in 3 to 5 different institutions including private; where research grants were used to build houses and buy cars; where they molested our ladies (our future wives); where they demand for bribes; where they embezzle their IGR; where they plagiarized; where they uses our own projects as their research; where most of them add nothing to the society etc.
You remind me of an experience I had during my university days.
Three of my classmates and I went to a certain Prof, to 'beg' him to come and take his course, as exam was about 2 weeks away and he was yet to attend class even once. The reply he gave to us left me in shock till date and destroyed my confidence in our educational system.
If you must school in this country, be street-smart and try to acquire skills that can put food on your table.

ProgrammingRe: Learning Python Kivy by Samcent: 7:45pm On May 14, 2020
@LSarcastic,

If kivy breaks even in mobile app development, the dominance of python will be unchallenged for a very long time.

Thanks for sharing knowledge.

I learnt there was a time on this forum when some 'very good' programmers used to be active. I am not sure exactly what happened but most of them seem to have either deactivate their account or decided to be inactive.

Knowledge sharing and interactions like this can help revive this section of nairaland.

As for Seun, I understand he is more of a business man now than a programmer, but he can help by making more threads like this grace front page.

My regards.

Django is pretty nice and I personally rate it as the tool with the best documentation in the world. You can check out the website I built with Django here https://www.bonychicken.com
Nice work! Which tools did you use for the frontend?

I agree with you 100% on django documentation.

Good to know you are also good with Kivy. I learnt the developers have stepped up efforts to make it competitive with regards to mobile app development. I also hope they come up with a beginner friendly documentation.

Thanks for your input.

I'm asking you this question, how do u think you want to read and learn just like that??

.well this is a solution u must choose if you are really serious about getting stuff done with any IT tools

And after dumping kivy, who told you that you won't dump django as well

Well

Here is one smart thing you could do

Get a live mentor

They help u get answers to ur challenges fast

And reduce the pain for progressiveness in ur learning.

That's why I'm here

I'm Mathew.

Tnx
The community around Kivy is not large. Getting help can be a difficult task.
Thanks for your offer of mentorship. However, I am okay with what I can get from google, youtube and stack overflow.

As for django, I have so far built 3 web applications with it. One of the app is in my domain of public health and the app is in production.
Whenever I am stuck working with django, I read the official documentation, and I find it to be self explanatory.

Your services will definitely be needed. My best wishes.

I used default django database which is dbsqlite3 and on heroku, there is a free addon database given to you if you wanna host your app which is postgres.

You can use postgres from the start with Django if you wanna host on heroku but hosting your app on heroku comes with a free database which is postgres.

Pythonanywhere use mysql for their regular users but postgres for paid plans only whereas heroku is not..
Hope this helps....
This info will be very helpful indeed. Wondering why I have been shying away from heroku all this while.
Thanks so very much and keep up with the good work.

Thanks for sharing. I am adding building django web api to my skill set in this lock down.

Apologies if I am asking too many questions.
Is the db mysql?

When hosting on pythonanywhere, as long as your db is postgres, you must part with some money even if you are using their subdomain.

Did you build an api for this app?
Also, did you have to pay for the hosting on heroku?

It was a phone interview after an online test. While I was expecting technical questions related to my practice, the two ladies that interviewed me literally dragged me on the floor with top management questions. That night I did not sleep well. I thank God for my wife, she helped ease the pain with sweet words and good food.
The job is a dream job, and I promised myself to make another attempt.

WHATEVER;

In the past two weeks, FEMALES seems to have lost their DIGNITY and PRIDE with the numerous challenges targeted at them that requires exposing parts of their BODIES which society considers PRIVATE for little sums of MONEY.

In Facebook groups, Instagram, Twitter and all SOCIAL media platforms, any post on what do you need, 95% of the replies by FEMALES would be MONEY, ask them to drop a pic of themselves in BED, in SHOWER, in night WEAR, post pics of their BUM or BOOBS gets so much replies by even GIRLS who are supposedly in the working class league. Many times I ask myself these GIRLS are people DAUGHTER'S, friend, a man's lover, girlfriend and surprisingly someone's WIFE.

The question is how do we get our LADIES to DISCIPLINE themselves at the sight of MONETARY gains and carry their BODIES with PRIDE. How do you loose your DIGNITY because of a RECHARGE card you can comfortably afford yourself?

Remember some of these GIRLS would birth the next generation of KIDS if we help them now we are indirectly going to save the society from a MORAL COLLAPSE

Wetin Concern Me!!!
Well said!

With regards to the declining morality, I fear it will only get worse. My prayer is that there will always be a remnant that will not bow to this popular wave of indecency.

I got into learning web development after learning basic of python to a certain level, here is my roadmap on how am becoming a fullstack developer

- start learning basic of python
-advance to framework by learning django
- learn html,css and JavaScript
- back to django and learn deployment

And here is my result

/mydemoapp12345.herokuapp.com/ remove the /
Good one for a start! I am also following your thread on 'Common good programming practices in python'. I love your passion and please keep it up.
If I may suggest, also add a JavaScript library, eg React, to your stack. Also, you will appreciate the beauty of django when you start building dynamic websites... I know you will definitely get there.

I learn programming and web development when my job affords me some spare time.

My path to web development :
- Basic python language
- Django framework
- HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, some JavaScript and Jquery while learning django
- Did some projects
- Deployment on pythonanywhere
- Back to learning JavaScript and Jquery in detail.
- Next will be adding React and ReactNative to the stack by God's grace.

Love and passion have kept me on this path. My only regret though, is that I did not join the party much earlier. However, my goal is to build web applications that will be relevant in my field of public health practice.

Don't destroy your marriage because of paparazzi. Leave the date and make arrangements with your in-laws. Most important thing is the parents consent. Go to registry as soon as civil servants resume fully.

Don't even bother about postponing. Global recession is imminent, and raining session comes shortly after May. Don't waste your time over nothing. Nobody really cares about your wedding right now aside you and your spouse.

I'm giving a very personal opinion because you're not alone in this
