My Confession
The changes I made last week to deal with the increased traffic came back to bite me in the ass, and Nairaland was down for about an hour while I struggled to fix it.

I lost my table of members and table of topics, which I had attempted to speed up, so I had to construct those records again from a backup and the table of posts.

I was able to recover all lost topics (excluding detailed information about those topics such as number of views) and the username/email address of members who registered recently and have started posting.

New users who haven't posted will need to re-register. The 233 newest active members will need to update their profiles again. Topics under "Nairaland.com" will need to be moved. Sorry. embarassed

TV/MoviesRe: Things We've Learnt From Nollywood by Seun(mod): 3:30pm On Apr 15, 2006
A lot of people enjoy these movies. That's all that matters in entertainment. It's not about how sophisticated, accurate, or awe-inspiring the movies are; it's about how well people enjoy them and a lot of people really seem to enjoy these Nollywod movies.

Remember the movie about penguins that was popular in the US last year? Explain that!
TV/MoviesRe: Things We've Learnt From Nollywood by Seun(mod): 11:02pm On Apr 14, 2006
Those who are complaining that Nollywood movies are bad should go and direct their own movies. To criticize is easy, but to build something great requires hard work and sweat which few are willing to go through!
Nairaland GeneralRe: Should We Support Nairaland Financially? by Seun(mod): 3:38pm On Apr 14, 2006
What I make is not "a ton' of money, but it's acceptable for someone who lives in Nigeria. I even get to save because I save money by living with my folks and eating their money food.

PoliticsRe: Letter To President Obasanjo Regarding Bill To Criminalize Gay Rights by Seun(mod): 12:05am On Apr 14, 2006
Akolawole, you mentioned that there's religious freedom in Nigeria. what if my religion encourages homosexuality? Would I be permitted to practice such a religion? What if my religion worships homosexuals and forbids punishment of homosexuals? Would Nigeria respect my religion and leave the homosexuals alone?

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: I Think We Should Make A Rule To Stop Abusing by Seun(mod): 10:52pm On Apr 13, 2006
Akolawole rejected a position as moderator of the forum. He prepares to be a complainer when things go wrong, than to be the person that solves the problems of the Sports forum. Anytime people are abusing themselves, he would say "Seun you are not doing your job" but when given the opportunity, he says "no". This shows that he's not sincere. unfortunately, he's the only one on the Sports forum that I trusted.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Is A Chevron Contract Job Worth It? by Seun(mod): 10:32pm On Apr 13, 2006
Look at all of them following the crowd like sheep to the slaughter. Sopescott is a good friend of mine and he did not win any Chevron contract job. He was just running a stupid test and making fools out of all of you. Spelling like an idiot to see how long it would take me to correct his spelling.

When you are on Nairaland, you need to put your thinking caps on.

His original title (before I was forced to change it was "Is ChevRoNN Contact Job Woth It" and I was annoyed because I know he did it deliberately (even edited the title). Is that clear now, or do I have to explain it in Yoruba so you can all understand? put your thinking caps on, people, and don't allow yourselves to be taken for fools by people like sopescott! cheesy
FamilyRe: Under-18 Domestic Servants Banned In Nigeria by Seun(mod): 2:48pm On Apr 13, 2006
Talking about 10 year old children being sent to hawk, i don't support that because it's so unsafe. I think the problem is that illiterates breed like rabbits. They copulate without the use of protection, and then they have so many children they can't take care of. Their lack of education consigns them to a low income that can't adequately support 2 or 3 kids not to talk of 6, 7, 8, 9! This makes them take desperate steps like sending their children to hawk or work for strangers who may or may not be cruel.

However, we should not throw out the baby with the bathwater. I don't see what's particularly bad about a 16 or 17 year old having a job (which may be housekeeping). There are some people who treat their domestic servants well and even pay for their education where they would have had no opportunity to be educated. You don't say because some marriages are bad you want to ban marriage altogether, because that will cause more problems. A law to punish child abuse - whether the child is yours or not - would have been more intelligent.
PoliticsRe: Where Are All The Obasanjo Apologists? by Seun(mod): 2:15pm On Apr 13, 2006
Hello Owo,

I regret the third term plot, the arbitrary laws, the disobedience of court orders. It's a pity that the people vying for OBJ's position are only worse.

Seun.

Why don't you come back to Nigeria and join the bloody struggle? You are enjoying yourself in the Uk and you want those of us at home to be killing and maiming each other. That is cowardice of the highest order!
FamilyRe: My Boyfriend's Father And Step-Sisters Are Against Our Relationship by Seun(mod): 1:41pm On Apr 13, 2006
After a nice chat with zizzle, I realised that the situation is not that bad. Though the father seems to currently disapprove of her, she's on talking terms with him and the rest of the family. She should just persevere and love will prevail. Wishing her the very best in her relationship and upcoming marriage.
FamilyRe: Under-18 Domestic Servants Banned In Nigeria by Seun(mod): 12:41pm On Apr 13, 2006
There has to be some form of protection for them surely.
There's a big difference between protection and criminalization. Protection is when you appoint conselors to visit these househelps and ask them, "are they treating you well?" and punish their employers if they have been mistreated. This law does nothing of that nature. It merely deprives these children of their only source of income.

Yes, I am against child labor, but it's still better to be a househelp than to die of hunger or be forced into crime. This idea of depriving people of their source of income in order to 'improve' the society is silly.

RomanceRe: She Waited For 3 Years And Now Her Boyfriend Has Suddenly Gone Abroad! by Seun(mod): 8:54am On Apr 13, 2006
When people in relationships talking about travelling out, I always wonder what will happen to their partners. Their desperate desire for a better life abroad makes them blind and heartless. If you know you want to travel out, you should remain single. So many relationships are not worth the time wasted on them. angry
FamilyRe: Under-18 Domestic Servants Banned In Nigeria by Seun(mod): 2:50am On Apr 13, 2006
Here are my questions:
- What's the difference between a child, nephew, or friend's child who runs a lot of errands at home and a domestic servant? You know that in our culture children are treated as house helps anyway.
- Have they provided alternative employment for the children under 18 who are currently domestic servants?
