jakiedudu: GEJ is transforming the power sector in Nigeria. Electricity reform is something that should have been done 40 years ago but it wasn't, no thanks to military rule. In a few years time Nigeria will achieve greatness. Yes we still have the matter of security ravaging some part of the country but I strongly believe that the fight against boko haram will be won. I BELIEVE NIGERIA WILL SOON TAKE IT'S RIGHTFULL PLACE IN THE COMMITTEE OF NATIONS.The bolded refers I honestly think that you were joking when you made the bolded comment or maybe you haven't switched on your tv/radio in 6 months? In case you haven't read any newspapers lately, it is pretty obvious that the current government is COMPLETELY helpless against the Boko Haram menace. This thread even proves exactly where the government's priorities lie. GEJ is more interested in getting a second term than in tackling Boko Haram. For your information are you aware that NOBODY FROM THE POLICE OR ARMED FORCES interviewed the girls that escaped from Sambisa? Are you aware that the only people that interviewed them were BBC journalists? Does this look like a government that is serious about tackling Boko Haram? Are you also aware than in less than 3 DAYS Cameroon rescued the wife of the VP that was kidnapped by Boko Haram? Now that is a REAL leader!!! Please don't kid yourself. Nigerians are TRULY on their own |
There is an Igbo proverb that goes thus: "When a handshake goes beyond the hand, it is no longer a handshake". So when a woman puts her legs around you when she is hugging you, it is no longer a hug! Common sense would dictate that the wife's behaviour was grossly inappropriate and the husband was definitely right to frown on it. And to make matters worse she then hugs the brother in secret? Neither is the brother Saint Paul here. Why would he be hugging his brother's wife in the guest room when only the two of them are there? It is definitely wrong and the very least he can do is to respect his brother. I am not saying they are cheating but there are boundaries in any marriage and your friend's wife crossed those boundaries. |
texazzpete: Wait, I don't understand this at all.@texazzpete You should not be shocked that the "Giant of Africa" can not even boast of helicopters with night vision capabilities despite the massive funds allotted to our armed forces on a yearly basis. Of course just like the Police Pension funds, majority of the funds allocated to our armed forces is stolen leaving us with a disillusioned, undisciplined and ill equipped "armed" force. Now we have turned to the "Beggar of Africa" who needs handouts to defend its own territorial sovereignty. It is shameful that we require donations of equipment in order to euip our army. While other countries are trying to assist us by 'dashing' us military equipment, our president goes to the national assembly to request for 1 billion dollars to fight Boko Haram. Of course we all know that with the upcoming elections close at hand, the funds if approved would be diverted to the ruling party's election campaign purse. As usual with a country that has no accountability, the funds would magically disappear after the government has procured a few token second hand tanks and guns that were destined for the junkyard in some far off Eastern European country. This is our new REALITY! |
The truth is that one of the two guys would definitely get hurt and there is no avoiding it. Since the two of them have already proposed she should nicely let go of the other guy who she is not in love with and CONCENTRATE on her relationship with the person she is in love with. She is lucky that both guys did not discover she was double dating and she should not attempt to stretch her luck otherwise it would be disastrous and she would end up losing both guys. |
fellis: No mind am.I completely disagree with you. While sex may not be oxygen it sure is a VITAL component of marriage, period! Obviously for the man to have kept an excel sheet his wife had been giving inane excuses for not having sex for quite some time. And the wife's excuses for sex are so ridiculous that I feel for her poor husband. Yes we can argue that men and women have different sex drives but having sex only twice a month?? No wonder the man is not picking up her calls. And we all seem to forget that both the man and wife are only 26 years old and not 70 years old!! This is their sexual prime. The wife's actions are COMPLETELY inexcusable, end of story!!! |
If there is one trait that I absolutely DETEST in women it is secretiveness . For goodness sake I thought that the idea behind dating is sharing your lives so why would some Naija women keep all manner of secrets all because according to conventional wisdom "girls are secretive"?Personally when ever I date a woman I open myself completely to her after a while and hide nothing from her. I also encourage her to open up herself (my goodness this is beginning to sound dirty! ) to me. That is because the bedrock of any success relationship is communication, communication and communication!!!Of course I have gotten hurt by women that I opened up to but that is the essence of love. You CANNOT love a person without being vulnerable to that person. Loving a person means giving that person the power to hurt you but hoping that he/she doesn't hurt you. As for me I no get time again. Any chic that plays all that secretive bull with me would find herself on the curb faster than she can say secret |
$1 billion loan ? Mr. President please what happened to all the billions that was budgeted to the Armed Forces? And how did you arrive at the $1 billion figure? Are you aware that till date the police is yet to interview the parents, relatives or teachers of the abducted girls? How do you expect the girls to be found when it is pretty obvious that your administration has no interest in finding these girls? Do not think that Nigerians can be fooled. You are simply using Boko Haram as an excuse to get a loan which would be used for your election campaign. If the money is ever approved we all know that what would actually be used in upgrading the Armed Forces is a negligible fraction. And as usual Nigerians would NOT demand for an explanation for how the money was expended. Just like the proceeds from fuel subsidy the people with the requisite connections would simply share the Boko Haram "subsidy". After Obasanjo was kind enough to get us as a nation out of debt, your sole mission is to subject Nigerians both present and future to penury in the name of Boko Haram. My only hope is that our sleeping National Assembly would be quick enough to see through this pathetic ruse. $1 billion Boko Haram subsidy MY FOOT!!!!! |
angela98: Hmm it will be same poor battery life which is associated with all smart phone. I won't buy it, I Dont like the design. The screen is too small for me. I love phablet phones with 5.5" screen. It makes browsing enjoyable..Babe you took the words out of my mouth. When you go the way of the phablet you never go back. I can't imagine using any phone less than 5.5 inches in size |
Sweetie are you actually considering taking back your ex? Women would never seize to amaze me. You want to go back to him because he dangled the marriage carrot before your eyes? COME ON!!!!!!! You now have a decent man who loves you dearly and you want to go back to an ex who cheated to your face more times than you can count? Are you that much in love with PAIN?? And so what if he cries? Have you heard of crocodile tears before? Let me tell you EXACTLY what would happen if you go back to your ex. He would play Mr. Nice Guy for a while and when you guys are eventually married his REAL nature would emerge. Then your next topic on Nairaland would be "My husband gave me an STD" Some people are masochists(they love pain) and if you are one of such people by all means please go back to your ex! But if you value your happiness and do not want to be treated like a doormat(that is exactly how your ex treated you) then delete your ex from your life. The CHOICE is yours dear |
@ poster Why would you want ANYTHING from your ex? You acknowledged he treated you badly and yet you are actually thinking of letting him compensate you? Are you now placing a price on your self worth? Accepting financial compensation from your ex is akin to a fish swallowing a bait on a hook. He can use whatever he gives you now as a hook to remain relevant in your life. You said you have a business so why for goodness sake are you thinking about accepting a financial reward from your ex? Is it because of the advice your friends gave you? My advice to you is to let your ex know thta you have forgiven him and tell him CLEARLY that you would NOT accept anything from him. After this cut off ALL contact with him as he is now married and move on with your life. |
Practice, Practice, Practice is the key. You could try singing in front of friends and family first, then later you could try singing in your church choir(it would be much easier because you have other people singing with you). Never miss out on an opportunity to sing even if it is on the road while you are walking. Since you are schooling there may be a couple of school shows, try singing in one of them. Ans a trick that I used was not to focus on anybody in the crowd. Try focusing on an inanimate object - trust me nobody would know the difference. |
Hard to get ke? When there are still like 3 billion women on this planet? Abeg I go carry my load pack go meet babe wey dey feel my style! But honestly I do not think I have the time to be with a woman playing hard to get. I ain't getting any younger!! @ women If you like a guy it really makes no sense playing hard to get. No one is saying that you should jump in his bed but at least you should be friendly and indicate some level of interest in him. |
@ Seun I am so disappointed with Seun's handling of the Nairaland data attack. He handled it just like any other Nigerian sole proprietor with absolutely no regard for his customers. For goodness sake what is wrong with an apology and an explanation as to what caused the outage? But instead what we have is business as usual and a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. And why oh why where backups of the website not taken? There is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for not taking backups in this day and age!!! Common Oga Seun that is the most basic thing a web administrator is expected to do! Attacks on web infrastructure MUST occur hence the issue of backups is NOT optional. While my post may sound very harsh it is because I actually hold you to very high standards and it sad to know that Nairaland is being managed the same way our refineries and utilities are managed. Seun you have done a rather EXCELLENT job in bringing Nairaland to the exalted position it currently holds. Please do not destroy the work of your own hands by mismanaging Nairaland. Points of action 1. An apology should be issued on the front page. Please do not take the millions of people that view Nairaland for granted. They are the reason Nairaland is the most visited site in Nigeria and they should not be disrespected. 2. Ensure you have a robust backup and recovery system in place. Not only should backups be taken, but they should be periodically tested to ensure that the backups are actually valid. Please take this post as constructive criticism |
Tochium: VO: why this school?@ Tochium I felt bad when you said you were denied the visa cos you are a regular here. Don't let it get to you as some of the Ogas of this forum were also denied visas at their initial attempts. I think you should change the school to another university and work on the question 'Why this particular school?' I don't think the VO would be convinced by the bolded response. The reason you choose a school shouldn't be because it is racially diverse or cos they have a cordiaql relationship with their students cos most universities in the US relate well with their students. Emphasize the first bit of your answer which is the school's academic excellence and try and specifically relate it to the school's academic excellence in your chosen course. Please don't be tempted to give a generic answer, be as specific as possible. Do not be discouraged bro and go get that visa!! |
[quote author=kizzykingz VO: so how did you know about this school? ME: I came across an article while In my final year of high school during one of the red cross and first aid society meetings of which I am a member with the topic HCC AND MY NURSING DREAM by fresh student of Houston community college then by name adaeze Bianca nwokem after going through this article it caught my curiosity and went into an extensive research for this school through the internet where I applied some websites like the usnews.com collegeboard.com and even the applytexas.org Good Answer!! VO: why did you choose this course? ME: as a child I have always loved taking care of people showing people love catering for people and lending help to the aged sick injured and helpless. I had always wanted to be all this and the only course that will guide me better with more professionalism, technicality and more exposure on this my childhood dreams and ambition will be nursing so now am grown up ready to choose a future it will be definitely a future in the nursing career VO: what will this course do for you after your study? ME: it will help me in rendering better and more superb humanitarian services in my country Nigeria and also set an example for the future generation and also inculcate the technicality of the course in my country Nigeria with better exposure to yield a tremendous outcome thereby bringing about a better change in the health care sector in general. For the love of everything holy scrap this answer. The VOs have heard this answer a million times and it is really not valid. Think about something more specific like how there is a scarcity of trained specialist nurses in Nigeria and the ratio of specialist nurses to patients is 1:100,000 which is far below the global standard. How you plan to fill this void by working in one of the big specialist hospitals. VO: what do you plan to do after your studies in the U.S? ME: I will return to do my compulsory one year community service for my country which is known as the N.Y.S.C and after that I will use my certificate to get myself a good job where I can have job satisfaction and be able to use my knowledge, technicality and exposure that I acquired abroad to influence the people around me and the health sector I find myself and also render humanitarian service. Same problem here be more specific as your answer is too general and says nothing about what you really want to do
@kizzykingz if you follow this script, you would have a 5% chance of getting a visa(except say Baba GOD decides otherwise). As everybody else has said please scrap the community college idea. Then your reason for choosing the school/course is too general. Have SPECIFIC reasons why you chose this particular school like the following reasons below 1. You spoke with a professor and his area of research is something that you are very interested in (dont be afraid to get technical here) 2. The course the school offers has an area of specialization that you are interested in and want to specialize in. (You could add that this area of specialization is in great demand in Naija etc) Basically look out for something UNIQUE about the school and not some generic crammed answer. It proves that you did your research and that you are a serious student. Also please work on your home ties as it seems to be lacking and VOs deny applicants visas because of weak home ties. I like the fact that you are preparing well for the interview but you seriously have to work on your answers. Please read the whole of thread 4 from the beginning and thread 5 as well in order to prepare properly. Best of luck Bro!!! |
lokito: So many silly replies here I bet.Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and what you just said now is beautiful nonsense. @Poster please tell your friend to prepare for a lifetime of beating cos her fiance would NEVER change except he encounters God. For heavens sake some women should try and use their brains to actually think instead of filling it with thoughts of comfort, money and shopping. Normally during courtship we as men tend to bring out our best side so that we can get what we are chasing after which in this case is marriage. If her fiance can beat her now while they are still courting why would he suddenly decide to stop beating her when they are married?? By the time they are married he would now have an official license to beat her to his heart's content anytime he is provoked. I would agree with another poster who said you should tip off her parents anonymously. You might just be the one to save her from a lifetime of misery |
I apologize to the house for not posting my interview transcript last week. My bosses wan use work end me before I leave for the States. But here goes the transcript I got to the embassy early enough at about 6:15 event though my interview was scheduled for 7:30am. Went through a lot of protocol (Men nobody told me that the protocol for US embassy plenty ohhh!) before I was eventually ushered into a massive hall where all the VOs were seated. Lest I forget at one of the points you have to remove anything that remotely relates to metal from your body like belts, earrings, keys etc. When I finally entered the waiting hall, my heart was beating faster than Usain Bolt runs the 100metres dash.I waited for almost an hour before I was eventually called by a young white man. Vo:Hello Me:Good Morning. (Men all the things wey I don prepare run commot from my head as my mouth open) Vo:So why do you want to go to America? Me:I am going to study for my Masters degree in blah blah Vo:So how did you find out about the school? Me At this point my voice began to visibly shake and I was shaking like I had malaria.Yes I was that nervous!) I did extensive research on the internetVo:When you say extensive what do you mean? Me:I went to some recommended websites like USNews.com, collegeboard.org and nsa.gov Vo:Cuts in at this point looking visibly shocked. You mean you went to the National Security Agency Website? Me:I smiled here cos this was my ace. Yes I did. I then went on to explain to him how the NSA certifies some universities in America as centres of excellence in IT Security education Vo:So why did you choose DSU? Me:I chose DSU for 3 reasons. First of all it has been certified by the NSA (note that my voice shook throughout the interview but I was audible sha). Secondly the school offers a specialization which I am interested in cos it is pertinent to what I am currently doing. Thirdly I spoke with one of the professors and his resume impressed me. He has worked in over 4 banks and it would be an honour to learn from him Vo: So who would be funding your education? Me: I have a full scholarship from blah blah. Vo:Can I see something like a letter? Me:I give him my scholarship letter Vo:Ok I see here that your scholarship covers your first year expenses Me: Nodded in agreement like agama lizard wey fall for ground Vo: Ok u can pick up ur visa on Monday Me: Thank you I quietly strolled out feeling like a bad guy whereas I actually felt like dancing alingo |
JFK12: Pls dz question goes to d pple dat jt got their Visa approved for graduate study.Pls hw mny years is btw ur waec nd when u got admitted for your undergraduate?Nd does d VO ask question abt what you were doing b4 you got admitted ?sorry ur question is a bit confusing. Are u referring to graduate or undergraduate study? Yes some VOs would ask u what u were doing b4 u got admitted. Usually it is either u were working to gain experience or u were schooling or doing academic work |
Make una help me thank Papa God oohhh!! I just got my visa approved today. I wish to thank the entire Nairaland USA Travel forum and all the Ogas here that have been altruistically assisting all the visa applicants that came here to make inquiries. Before I post the transcript of my interview, let me sound a note of warning that has often been emphasized in this forum to those that are still applying for visas 1. NEVER APPLY to a Community College. All those that applied to Community colleges were denied visas today. As someone once said it is probably like 3% of the people that apply to Community Colleges that have their visa approved. 2. TAKE AT LEAST ONE STANDARDIZED TEST. Even if your school has waived all the tests, take at least one test as it shows that you are a serious student. 3. APPLY TO MORE THAN ONE UNIVERSITY. Even though I have never been to an embassy before, I could predict those people that would be denied visas just because I was a faithful follower of this thread. Most the people that said they applied to one school were denied visas. If you do not take a standardized test and you apply to only one university, trust me when I say that you would be DENIED a visa except God says otherwise. 4. Go through the entire Season 4 or Season 5 of this thread. Yes I know it is about 400 pages long but remember what they say about failing to prepare and preparing to fail Ok with that said my next post would be about the interview |
imperiouxx: To me,Congrats Master Imeriouxx!! I never doubted you for a moment. So when are we popping champagne ![]() |
Hi Guys I know that mobile phones are not allowed in the embassy, but does the embassy provide lockers for safekeeping of mobile phones? If not, where do people that do not come with their own cars keep their mobile phones? Thanks for answering my rather silly question |
regby: Visa approved today at Lagos embassy!Hey congrats!!!! When are you going to post your interview? Don't keep us waiting ohh!! |
harkynon: . Tnx guru. How do I go about it? Must I call ets jst like making a new registration? Or I should just pay on their portal online?Try paying on their online portal, if that doesnt work call them. When I had issues with payment i had to call them but I would not advise this except you have no other option |
pablo excobar: I woke up very confident and bold 2day, and my appointment was schedule for 10:AM. Took my bath and straight to d embassy arrived by 8:30 still feeling confident.Pablo you definitely had favour from God. Your interview was more or less like a chat. Congratulations my brother and I am tapping into ur Obamaland anointing for my own interview next week. ![]() |
Amefrica: Those dates are for Lag.Amefrica if your friend is serious, he would book a date in Lagos and travel down. People travel from Abj to Lag just to attend weddings and ur friend who is looking for a visa is acting as if he has numerous options waiting for him. If he doesn't want to come down to Lag for his interview please let him know that the only alternative is doing the interview next year. |
Amefrica: Abeg, if anybody should see any december date in Abuja should let me know. A friend needs it. DankiesIf it is that urgent your friend could choose Lagos. The earliest appointment date is December 6 |
jcaribie: also, did he demand to use western union quick pay? kos its different from the normal western union. also, anyone who has a scholarship should show a bank statement which indicates that just incase u don't keep up with the terms of the scholarship, u will be able to fund urself. a VO told my friend this..n denied him on that basis.Yes he did ask for Western Union Quickpay and he had a copy of my I20 and my passport data page. I guess it must be new rules or it could be something else. Anyway I hv sent it to a friend to help me process it. |
Hi Guys Men it has been WAR paying the SEVIS fee!! My friend went to Cotonou to pay the fee on my behalf at Western Union and all the Western Union offices (Ecobank and Diamond Bank) he went to refused to process the transaction. They said that they cannot accept the money because the receiver is a US Bank (na the exact format fmjfee use for their site na im the guy use) and not an individual. Even when he wanted to send the money to somebody in the US they stated that he has to get a Togolese citizen to send on his behalf or something like that. Men the trip to Cotonou was a wasted effort. Anyways I would try and get somebody in the states to pay for me. All this wahala just to enter Obamaland |
Thank you Kunlebal, Tochium and Walspring for your responses. I really appreciate itt and if i have any other questions I would holler @ this forum |
Hi Guys I am quite new in the travel section of nairaland and I must say tha I am thoroughly impressed. You guys are like one big family and everybody is genuinely concerned about evreybody else. That said I need the advice of the gurus in the house and I hope that you would be able to spare some time to help a brother out. Here goes: I have scheduled a visa appointment but I am a little confused cos of my situation. 1. I have an online masters degree from a school in America but I haven't been to America before. I am wondering if i should tell the VOs about this but from the advice you guys were giving on the forum it appears that this may actually work against me. My fear is that if I do tell the VO he would want to know why I want to pursue another degree and would ask why I dont want to do it online again. Should I reveal the info about my masters degree? 2. I have a full scholarship that covers tuition and expenses(this is why i want to travel for my second masters).I did TOEFL and GRE back then but the TOEFL is expired. Is it okay if I present the GRE alone when the VO requests for standardized test? Would the lack of TOEFL count against me? I finished school 2007 and I have been working since then. Any other advice would be most welcome. I await to hear from all the gurus in the house if they can spare the time. Thanks a mill!! |
) to me. That is because the bedrock of any success relationship is communication, communication and communication!!!
