@DABLESEED Sorry to disappoint you but I pay my bills and taxes and many people that are around me do the same. The fact that you were probably not doing so before you left this country does not mean everybody is in the same category. Nigeria is more than what you and your family do, like it has been mentioned several times on this thread, there are still people of integrity in this country, I know it may be difficult for you to understand considering what you might have been exposed and involved in. |
When I hear this sort of comment about girls from guys, I am puzzled, but I come to understand they must be talking about what they know and are exposed to. I do not think Chimamanda Adiche's brothers and friends will make this sort of statement about Nigerian girls. |
Not all in-laws are after the man's money,my Grandfather and my Uncle actually managed my father's estate and I was able to graduate from the University, though I was in form 1 when he died. They made sure the money was spent on education and education alone because that is one thing that is valued in that family,to be frank I do not think my mum would have been able to do that, she made a lot of blunders (innocently)with her own savings that I am glad she did not have access to my late Dad's. But if your inlaws are the type that, even when your partner is still around have values that are contrary to yours, your partner is about the only source of provision for them, they bombard your home with one request or the other everyday and are never satisfied, then you must do something fast, because they are going to tear you apart if he dies. Most of our contributions have been on the basis that the man dies, what if it is the woman and she has been more wealthy than the man, what does she do? Make the man her next of kin and leave all her savings to the man, only for him to marry again(which he has the right to) and start to spend the woman's money on the new wife and children since the new wife will be around to make sure that her children's interests are taken care of? What do you think? |
Please forgive the MIP guy, that is how far corruption has eaten deep into people's brain in this country. Some people have come to see stealing as a natural means of survival and they just find it difficult to believe that some people can actually not steal. They admire people who are currently stealing while they pray to God for their own opportunity to come. Yes! they actually pray these prayers, afterall is it not God that said we should be wise? They see it as manifesting 'wisdom'! |
Maybe a change of name would solve the problem I think the whole 'big brother 'concept is faulty. This particular big brother gets paid when the housemates are naughty as a matter of facts he manipulates things to make sure they are naughty! When you hear the name Big Brother Africa, you may expect a programme that is about African virtues (even though Africa has her vices as some people have stated) and get disappointed when you actually take a look. I think that is what happened to the Senators. |
@Ivvie What you simply want us to know is that you be 'aje'(ajebutter) ? Daddy- Engineer,Mummy -Engineer, Grandparents-Professors ![]() O.k we get the message. |
@Damoche10 'By the time you start eating your pounded yam in yam ' Oh my goodness, you people will not kill me! ![]() |
Meeeeeeen na wao! What will you guys not discuss on Nairaland? I have been laughing my head off! I must be an amala freak because I know most of the places mentioned in Ibadan and Lagos. Amala is my best food in this whole wide world but I cannot bring myself to eat what is served in the restraurant in my place of work in Warri because it is far from the Buka, 'ina igi' type that I love. I cannot wait for Xmas to come for me to go home for another shot For Warri people check Eboh by Cinema junction and Refinary road (cannot remeber the exact place) but it will be served in nylon with the Ewedu in another plate not the usual style of serving from the hot pot into the plate with the soup poured on it! There is a place in Ibadan that has not been mentioned, Yakoyo is behind new Gbagi market, the woman must have bulit many houses with people's money ![]() Inastraight is not what it used to be, it was formerly downhill behind cultural center and it was almost an addiction for many people in ibadan then, learnt the wonam used to kill about 6 goats a day. There used to be another Olaiya in Ketu garrage, it was actually run by a man, I used to look forward to my Saturday mornings there when I was working in Lagos. Any new and exciting joint in Ibadan? |
May God deliver us ladies from the manipulations of foreign romance novels and Western movies that fill our minds with jargon! I had a friend whose mum refused to allow her to read such novels when we were in the University and I found it strange but I know better now. These books are responsible for making one think that a man is your man only if you feel like 'jumping into bed with him immediately', our minds have been so messed up that many of us hang around selfish men with nothing to offer just because he fits the macho figure potrayed in these books. A man who is to be a husband gives your life stability,he impact your life positively with meaningful support in all aspect of your life- that is the actual meaning of the word from which 'husband' was derived from! |
@Spora and Baba nee I understand your stand but the kind of posts you suggest will kill this blog. This is the kind of thing people want to see and hear, remember why Ofunneka failed to win BBA? |
@Mendax, That sounds like a very sexist remark to me. |
You mean the guy is single? Meeeeeeen! That is the most eligible bachelor in Nigeria right now, but I suspect guys of that age who are not married, there is usually a flaw in character somewhere Ladies are very smart, a good guy does not last in the market, he is caught somehow by hook or by crook! Have you guys heard about the NYSC saga? What is the latest, does he have any explanation? |
@Dvonne Your post was so loaded with interesting information that I had to read it over again. God bless your Stepfather, some fathers are not able to make something out of their own children's lives talkless of stepchildren. He must have been God sent. you would think that your late Dad's people would be too ashamed to approach you for money but you would be shocked, they will even ask with all the authority in this world, afterall was their son not your father? Maybe one day we will come to understand in our society that dropping a few drops of Spermatozoa is not the only thing that qualifies one to be a DADDY. |
My responce may not answer the question the poster asked but since we are talking about the relationship of Nigerians with other Countries, this may be an additional info. My sister is presently in Senegal for business and she cannot believe the number of Nigerians who do business with Senegal. She was told by her business parter to look out for the people who boarded the same flight with them on the streets of Dakar and she was not disappointed. She said Senegalese in the market go out of their way to learn English because of business from Nigerians. The hotel she is staying is full of Nigerians, the question that she is repeatedly being asked by Senegalese is why Nigerians are so hardworking! So you see, we also have great positive impact on this section of the continent different from the news of Naija 419 we hear everyday! |
When some people say life is not fair, this is the kind of thing they refer to. People will be ready to call you selfish now, despite all you have gone through. But that is how it is, it may be unfair now but making the right decision and making your son meet his Dad will at the long run yield good benefits. No matter the magnitude of the initial excitement of meeting his father, your son, when he becomes a responsible man will come to understand who made the sacrifices for his life to be what it is. I thank God for helping you raise a good kid, may you live long to enjoy the fruit of your labour. |
@oyb Your responce is one of the most objective and analytical posts I have read on Nairaland. |
This guy is a violent man, simple. He has deep roots in violence. He must be the type that cannot have a simple argument without getting angry. He is probably one of those people who feel less a man when they loose out in an argument and have to feel strong and in control again through violence. If you are the type who gets angry and humiliated when someone does not agree with your views, beware, you may be capable of murderer! |
I need a miniflat/BQ in Apapa very urgently. Contact dolapee2000@yahoo.com |

You people have refused to take the recent trend among young adult in Nigeria into consideration We now have guys called 'progressives' who go from church to church looking for over aged executive sisters 'believing God for a life partner' These sisters are bank secretaries, oil workers etc, who have spent years developing their careers. These guys know the only thing remaining in the lives of these sisters is marriage and as Seun rightly said the 'bioligal clock' is clicking. These sisters would have been fed with the sermon of not being materialistic, people would have repeatedly told them they are not married because their standard is too high, so when they eventually meet a 'progressive' they decide to go ahead. Without a prenupt, could a lawyer in the house please let us know (according to Nigerian law)if this 'progressive' can have access to the sister's money after a divorce or death and use it to enjoy a younger woman while the parents who sent her to School and cared for her to become a success in life (any parent will know how difficult this is, it can take your spirit, soul and body) are left with nothing. |
I need secured property in Lekki and Abuja Contact-dolapee2000@yahoo.com |
In this part of the world, during the night before the burial of someone, if a man ,the widow is forced to drink the water used to wash the corpse of her husband to prove her innocence but if a woman the widower is presented with a damsel for the night to consol him over the death of his wife! God will Judge! a prayer of the helpless |
@babadee Why must you repeatedly tell her who is boss? Is there a problem somewhere? , self esteem probably? , just wondering. ![]() |
@Poster A gal slapping a guy is only permitted in the Western world. A man can give his wife occasional beating in this part of the world and call it discipline. The day the wife raises her hand to strike the man, she must buy a goat to appease the gods! |
Maybe the woman no wan catch AIDS @knotty , assuming you pay the rent. A lot of things happen in families these days you know, a lot of women are carrying responsibilities that they are not allowed to discuss outside, she may actually not mind you giving all the Aminas in your life attention as you are not useful to her. May God allow us to remain relevant to our families. |
There is this multivitamin called Cyprigold, it makes one eat and sleep. U may try it if u want |
Someone said it is the reigning thing and he/she is right. I have been observing couples for a while now, the only ones that get married and wait for children are the bornagain ones. Others decide to get married once the girl is pregnant so even if u cannot see the pregnancy during the wedding wait for a month or two it will show Many of our marriages have problems that the presence of children help to handle, many women are in their marriages because of their children, the beauty of the children help them to tolerate all that comes., that is why some ladies now sef want to get pregnant before marriage in order not to end up with Korofo -an empty barrel. Let us be careful both male & female, in as much as few inferterlities have no cause, many are due to past carelessness. |
