Mr. Seun Osewa - Please can you create a section for miscellaneous topics like this?

Nairalanders - pls pardon me for taking advantage of the section with the highest traffic

I was in a shop (Lagos, Nigeria) to buy an item and the sales girl put the item in a nylon bag and handed it to me at the door. Before I could take 2 steps, the handle of the nylon bad gave way and I lost the bottle and its content. I asked the senior sales girl and requested for the owners’ phone number so I can discuss with her about what happened but she refused. I got the sales girl's number though. I later called her to ask if she had told the owner, she said “yes, but she said it’s none of her business”.

What should I do? It’s not about the money but the attitude. I just think we can’t continue to take Poo like this as Nigerians.
I think ole boy was still in the store and/or BARELY off the premises - only moments went by - in the U.S. - he would have a STRONG CASE

Not trying to be rude as I respect your posts and it sounds as if this were your shop - the outcome would have been much different

The bag was faulty and probably the owner got a bad batch and in the U.S. - could turn around and go after the bag company to recoup any losses the shop suffers in similar situations if they are frequent

@ Googles

Look here boo

That case scenario in the U.S. would go like this…

Poster would be the plaintiff and definitely the Shop owner would be the defendant

Poster said that he talked to sales clerk – sales clerk would be seen as the shop owner’s representative in this neck of the woods [U.S.] – any judge would assume that the sales clerk would have notified the shop owner about the situation and if the attendant didn't notify the shop owner - it would not have mattered anyway

Everything in the shop belongs to the owner including the position that the sales attendant holds – that too belongs to the owner

The judge would hold the owner liable to know about the goings on of everything in that shop

If consumer didn’t leave store – if incident occurred within moments of buying and receiving merchandise on store property – case closed and case won

Bag faulty on premises of Shop Owner
Consumer receives reimbursement

I don’t know Nigerian Law – but U.S. Law – I know enough about it to know that the consumer most definitely has a case in this situation.

Re-read the poster's original post.

He took 2 steps - it didn't sound like he left the shop unless he stated that further in the thread - which at this point I can't recall.

I think this happened in the store.  That is why he is angry and rightly so.

He should have shopped in your store sounds like he could have gotten better service and accountability.

@ googles

Also - this type of action in court in the U.S. - set precedent and laws are made country and state-wide - as the poster states it isn't a money issue - it's principle.

Small cases such as these initiate HUGE CHANGES THAT AFFECT BILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT CASES and protect the consumer in all shops across the country.

One person and one very small case can effect change that will change the world

jab his backside with your fingernail

when he looks around

hand him the tissue and tell him to wipe!

then give him your back - let him see you leave

he's nasty -uggghhh

In this U.S.

I represented myself in Small Claims Court and won my case - I was able to prove my point against a merchant retail shop - they actually took me to court to prosecute me and instead of not showing up out of fear -  I brought my evidence, stood my ground, went toe to toe and eye to eye - presented fact versus fiction and won my case.

Is there a Small Claims Court in Nigeria?  If so - start there first - google Small Claims Court and See if Nigeria offers a similar one with a different name.

Also - on NL - there is a Lawyer in the legal section - many NLers turn to this guy with questions - research and find him - he has posted many times

better yet ask Seun - he knows his members - he reads and keeps up quite frequently - he jumps from forum to forum - I have seen him in the most unlikely places so he would know of whom I speak

email him and ask him which member id to contact for this your problem

height has nothing to do with looking up or down on someone

how many tall men do you know that have accomplished very little, aren't supportive of their mates or families that live in U.S.?

I know a heap of them and though they tower above me physically - I definitely can and have looked down on them at some time or other.

but i do understand what you are trying to convey on a so-called physical level - I am not trying to undermine or diss your post

my baby is 5'7 and he towers over me - i look up to him on sooo many different levels

cool   cheesy

Ciara and Bow Wow not even in the same class - she dresses classy and he doesn't even look like a man - she looks like a woman and he looks like a young boy - height isn't their problem

age looks like the culprit to me - if he were dressed in a suit or similar to her - they would be a nice couple - get rid of the braids and look like a man

In the U.S. - they would have replaced it immediately if you bought that bottle in a large store and in a boutique high end store as well.

But if you bought it in the U.S. in a small mom and pop establishment with no procedures, mission statements, rules  - than it is dependent upon the ethics of the owner of that operation.  Because once it is in your hand - then it is an argument as to whether you ripped the bag, etc.

Here is what I would do - go on NL - create a video with a camera or camera phone or camcorder - 3 minutes tops and then upload it to utube and post it on the fashion section of NL - about your experience and create a song out of it, even stand in front of the store and sing while you record - give the owner a copy - see if that changes anything.  Rap about what you paid, hold the broken bag and bottle up, their response and what you as a customer thought you would get - accountability from the shop owner to stand-by their products and services (this would include store bought shopping bags that they package sold merchandise and hand to the customer) - The owner might be willing to negotiate after you air the video - if you don't want to sing about it - talk about it instead - it should take about 30 minutes to an hour to do all of the above.

See how this guy did it?  He won and the Retailer worked everything out with him

I deleted my facebook account after about 6 months of joining - I noticed that men were coming on to me and though I made it clear that I had a man - they didn't care and even got abusive.

If I rejoin Facebook it will be after I marry and I can put photos of both of us on my account - The advances of the different men - white and black was sending the wrong message to my family, clients and friends.

I even had a few guys that were angry once my status changed from single to in a relationship.  And they actually posted some very, very angry, derogatory comments about my guy's African heritage.  Male friends that I thought were just friends until I announced my relationship. (AA males)

So I dropped my facebook account.  I think you have to be careful - facebook opens your world up to friends and friends of friends that you don't even know.  I didn't want drama so I dropped it.

These women don't look like the mothers of the men

The majority of these shorter men have much more $$$ than the women

So to whatever poster thinks that these tall beauties are paying shorter men to be with them - that poster is off base TOTALLY.

These are powerful, sexy, good looking and CONFIDENT about who they are - they don't fear what others think - because they know that 9 times out 10 others want what they have.  You can believe they aren't being laughed at - their circle of friends and observers definitely admire and welcome them where-ever they go.

(Jazz singer Jamie Cullum has said he finds it "strange" that the press comment on his relationship with 5ft 11in model Sophie Dahl.

Jamie, 30, is seven inches shorter than fiancee Sophie, 32, and he said that the height difference is "not a problem" between them.

He said: "I mostly ignore things, because it's so real, the love, and I don't feel as though [the press] impacts on my life.

"And the only thing about the size difference that makes me a bit sad is that I think it sends out a really weird message to the universe, [the idea that it's] a problem to people.

"It's clearly not a problem to us, and it never has been. And I find it strange that it would be reported in such a way."wink

being a man - has NOTHING TO DO WITH HEIGHT
RomanceRe: Ladies, Can U Marry A Man That Is Shorter Than You? by ShyOne(f): 11:30pm On Feb 19, 2011
really?

u will change your story if u find someone when u aren't looking who u have everything in common with as well as if you are sexually attractive and if u are perfectly matched.

your daily happiness will be more important to you than what a stranger thinks about seeing you from afar with someone who is taller.

this shorter man and I have more in common than the previous men who were all taller than me - over 6 feet

so u will overlook a beautiful bombshell because you can't handle her height being taller than you?
RomanceRe: Dating A Lesbian>>>>> by ShyOne(f): 9:24pm On Feb 19, 2011
As far as dating a bisexual

why?  if you fall for that person - they will NEVER EVER be with you and only you.  Unless you are a hermaphrodite and you own both male and female sex organs.

why waste time with a bisexual unless you aren't interested in a committed long-term faithful relationship and then who has the self-assurance and enough emotional security to deal with the nonsense?

U never know who they want - you or your brother or your friend.  I could be standing with a female friend and a male friend and they would want all of us simultaneously.  With bisexual - it's about the sex.  How is it ever about a relationship, longevity, family, commitment, loyalty?

to me bisexual is about getting their rocks off and that's it.

No - I'm not surprised - you know most people would feel odd - I used to be in that category as well - I always had all height men approach me - taller, same height, shorter.

I didn't date shorter men before.  But this one - ooo boi - I just crave this negro - his height isn't a deterrent for me - I too am surprised - he is sooo such a perfect match, we are very very similar so, oh well screw the height.

I gotta have me some HIM.  It is as simple as that.

Guys listen:

It is NOT ABOUT HEIGHT

It is about presentation and packaging and confidence and really, really loving that other person - for who they are

And honestly speaking - if you look good and you are taller than your mate and you are a woman - stay in shape - simply put - be somebody that everybody wants to wrap their arms around, dress well, smell good

you can keep the focus on "who you are" - because they will see a gorgeous woman who happens to be tall and looks great on that fella's arm - that shorter man will be revered and envied

I don't feel odd with a shorter man - because if he is masculine - he is such a powerhouse to me - I can't wait to get with him.  Tom Cruise still looks good, masculine, confident, happy and both his wives were taller than he.
