Audinowing: I think u need to look around for other audit firms that will provide a better working condition. What makes you a good auditor is constant training and development and from the look of things you re not getting this in your current place of work. Remember, the requirements n demands on the profession keep on increasing every day n its only the updated that gets the job n the goodwill. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT WORKING HARD BUT THINKING SMART!True talk indeed. But what makes you come to the conclusion that he isn't getting any training and development? The poster clearly stated that he gets thrown in the middle θf assignments and is required to constantly use his initiative to get things done! Heeeloooo isn't that HARDCORE training? Oh he is certainly getting alooota training and self development- the hard way! And you know what? tough experiences sure sticks to the memory!!! |
skillip: @ Op, I would advise you to go into private coaching part time, say after school hours you can speak with parents of some of the kids, at 5k per child if you have 4 children that's 20k, at least you have some level of experience. You can then run your fish farm as a day time job. My opinion. ThanksWoow great suggestion! Nothing like multiple streams θf income!!! @ op:what thinketh thou? |
@ op: please don't get weary, you will definitely pull through! @ skills, that suggestion was indeed borne outta lotta skills lol. I wish you the success you are journeying towards. Cheers bro. |
@ skills_-ICT: Thanks for acknowledging and thank you more for sharing your experience, I hope the poster is encouraged by your experience and applies same. @ op: question for you! You are the HR consultant for a multinational or perhaps the CEO θf a globally recognised audit firm and you are considering hiring someone in your profession as an entry level auditor. Now, you have two candidates, you have the same qualifications as you do now, during the interview, you discover both θf them had similar experiences starting up, but one had to quit because he was tired θf having to use his initiative all the time amongst other challenges, but the other stayed on the job because he constantly had a clear view θf his big picture and has developed himself to the point that he can take on any assignment and succeed in it because he has mastered the art θf taking initiative, meeting clients needs and solving problems! Question is, who would you hire and pay whatever he demands? |
Bro, After reading or hearing your story, a lot θf people will advice you to quit, others may agree with you that you are in a predicament but still advice you to hang on as this may be a blessing in disguise but I dare say that this is an undisguised blessing! What? You may scream, but I repeat, your current job, is an undisguised blessing! Let me state my reasons. You have identified your career vision, you know where your headed and by the grace θf God nothing can stop you but yourself. Now, knowing where you are going is not the issue, it is staying on the journey that leads to your destination! The journey may be long and frustrating but if you want to arrive at that destination, you have got to learn to be focused! I believe that this is a great start! Oh yes it is! Truth is we always want the easy way out, the job with the fat salary, where you are always told what to do and the term initiative is non existent. This job offers you the rare opportunity θf developing leadership skills as you are constantly been given assignments that requires the use θf your initiative and you call that a problem? Please you need to reprogram your mindset and take on a fresh perspective regarding this job! You need a new set θf attitude! Whilst the experience is grueling, do not loose sight θf the big picture! I mean don't you see yourself powering YOUR OWN audit firm in the future? Well this is part θf the price you need to pay! When I started out in my career, I took up a job and for the first 6months, there about, no salary, but when a particular international organization came around looking for someone in my field to handle a particular job, guess who was the first to be recommended! Now, I am at the stage (still growing by Gods grace) where I can give clients a bill and they are willing to pay why? Because I have paid my dues! So please consider this another institution θf learning! Take on every assignment with fresh zeal and the mentality θf success whilst you approach clients with an enthusiastic attitude to solving their problems, give yourself a timeframe that you want to be at that organization and do NOT get distracted from your focus! In a few years from now, you will look back and say to yourself that it was well worth the effort! Best wishes as I anticipate your tale θf success. Cheers!!! |
@ op: I love you! Oh my gawd its a... FAIL!!! |
osifred: You are asking if wearing "causal jean, shirt and face cap' to corporate meeting and interview.God bless your sweet soul for stating in clear terms what I have released an album over!!! Tiank you wellu wellu!!! |
candylips: maddam wat worked for u might not work for someone elseWhat worked for me may not work for someone else, really? Now let me reveal one fact to you, I have heard top HR consultants say the reason they raise the bar that high (demanding those so called great grades) is because they know the ridiculous number θf unemployed youths seeking employment and such requirement (2:1) does a great job θf reducing the number! Imagine that! Another fact you need to know is that business owners are looking for people with solutions and if you are that candidate, the job is yours! You should also bear in mind that those preferred degree may get you the job but it is only your wit that will keep you in the job or make you indispensable! These are tested principles and they will work for anyone! While I am not encouraging young people to be nonchalant with their academics, I insist that if you do not have the onus to defend you Masters degree, you can't have the job! ( Not taking into cognizance the corrupt paractices in Naija o) |
chucky234: Boxer and singlet will do the magic, dont forget to go with a matching bathroom slippers.Hahahahaha, thank goodness this spicy noodle wasn't in my mouth as at the time I was reading your post! |
Forgot to add (how could I) loads θf Gods favor, always gives me that edge. |
I graduated in 2005 with a 3rd class in a field a lot θf people consider professional but as far as I was and am still concerned, its a boooooring field! Having realized that, I quickly started the interesting process θf self discovery, armed with this knowledge, I went to a private organization to volunteer, that was before NYSC, during my service year alone, I had three job offers! Back then, I humorously say to my friends who were crazy about the masters degree that with all their certification, I would be offered a job before they would be considered if we all went for the same interview. Truth is every employer I have ever come across find it hard to accept that I had a 3rd class and that is because θf my overall presentation, intelligent manner in which I engage their minds, the excessive passion I exude and the subtle but hard to miss its-your-loss-if-I-am-not-a-part-of-your-team aura I naturally exude. In summary, I would say, if you have the opportunity to bag another degree and certification, go ahead! But you have got to be able to back it up else its just a waste θf time, effort and money!!! |
Hey there, Great points, no. 11 is the icing on the chocolate cake. |
Hi, Is the job location within the F.C.T? |
An exec. Assistant job is very exciting as well as challenging. Attributes to ensure maximum effectiveness on the job includes: High level organizational skills: you must display a high ability to maintain order as you will have to manage the diaries θf your boss, manage the file systems, manage correspondences, etc. Ensure you have a clear idea θf what should be achieved each day and record such activities in your personal diary. oladayo042: Don't be surprised if your boss is on NL reading all these comments.Let them read and either turn a new leaf or watch their backs!!! |
marjo: @trinity u shud have sued them. It is illegal to sack a woman on maternity leave. So many pple don't know the law and those who know don't want 'wahala'.How long will the case drag at our Nigeria court θf law? Also if the company is one θf those "mighty" multinationals, what is the likelyhood that she stands a chance? However, I am much interested in the true outcome if she were to go that route. Are there any legal practitioners in the house? |
I am beginning to be weary θf how you keep raising points that in no way correlates with my previous points but somehow contradicts your own points whilst concurring with my main point which is: DRESS AS THE OCCASSION DEMANDS!!! Yaw could afford to dress that way because θf the industry, let him dress that way to a bank interview or other corporate setting and see if he will make it through the gate. Corporate setting requires corporate dressing unless otherwise indicated! Learn to give unto Ceaser what is Ceaser's! The choice is yours!!! |
So many unpleasantness is associated with the workplace! From doing work you detest to working with abusive bosses! However, one unpleasant vice that I cannot condone in the workplace is GOSSIP! Gosh! I would rather condone a leper! I describe gossip in the workplace as an arrant display θf unprofessionalism!!! If you have been an object θf gossip in your office I am sure you would share a mutual feeling with me in this regard and you are welcome to share your experiences with fellow Nairalanders. However, if you are the perpetrator θf gossip in your office, share with us why you have chosen that as a secondary profession and perhaps you could receive deliverance here! (Whether you want it or not)!!! Cheers. |
kaka G: The truth is that its thesame everywhere. The only difference is the degree at which this wicked attitude is manifested. How long will you keep running? Truth is inspite θf the demoralizing fact that sadistic bosses abound in the workplace, most employees contribute immensely to the way they are being treated and I sincerely hope that you aren't responsible for the treatment you are receiving and have received in the past! I have read that reputation precedes an individual but you can also work hard at changing your reputation! If you are as deligent in your job as you claim, your results will speak for you and consequently over ride every wrong assumptions. I deduced from your post that the only reason your CEO wanted you back in the first company wasn't because he realised your worth and missed your input but because he didn't want to loose his connection with your brother! And now, you claim you can't achieve results because trash has been said about you! Oh dear please, you have got to take responsibility! Infact now is the best opportunity you have to proove that you are super duper dynamo! Proove to them and mostly to yourself that you rock! |
gbokukueba: I do not want o derail this trail but from a HR professional point of view, people that have suffered some form of emotional torture by the bosses end up doing worse when the occupy such positions. There is nothing wrong with criticizing your employees or subordinates, just ensure that the criticism is constructive. Focus on needful things, make the necessary correction without tearing down the person's image! I do not believe that you could be a bad boss and not know it, except you have become so conceited that you are blind to your actions. |
acidtalk: We aren't talking of pwoplw dressing losely. Casually smart dressinif well combined I think can readily fit in a corporate setting. You asked, "shouldn't one wear what calms the body and mind"? That description stretches beyond dressing casual, besides casual is a relative term, hence the necessity to dress as occasion demands! I am wondering what sense there is in dressing casually for an outing that clearly indicates corporate settings... Whats the connection? |
vanstanzy: AGE HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THIS, MEHN. THIS GUY HAS BEEN BE-WITCHED. THE OLD HAG LOOK LIKE A 1000 yrs OLD WITCH. LETS PRAY FOR OUR OWN TO BE SAVED FROM HER FANGS.Oh yeah.. Bewitched by the wads θf fresh and "young" currencies flowing in her account!!! More like pray to be saved from your own greedy desires!!! |

acidtalk: You might have a point but the issue is shouldn't one wear what best calms their mind and body? You SHOULD dress as the occasion demands not as. Your body demands else organised places (business meetings, interviews and the work place) would be a parade θf disorder. Imagine a business meeting with a lady whose usual sense θf "body calming" dressing is portrayed in half clad outfits or individuals who are more comfortable expressing their cultures through their dressing! A display θf chaos indeed! |
