Babies should never have access to swimming pools. Such deaths are due to careless parenting and sadly I have seen a few of these kinds of occurrences.

By the way, the higher the prices for a commodity, the lesser the quantity demanded. It will get to a point, people will shelve rice for other foods. The so-called specific area accounts for 25% of local production. |

Events › Re: Remembering FESTAC 77, Nigeria's Biggest Party by staga: 7:25pm On Oct 17, 2022 |
Reflect7: You're talking rubbish and telling lies.
The economy did not suffer after FESTAC. The economy boomed and boomed for a full 6 years after FESTAC until the world oil price crash of 1982 sent the country into recession. The country felt only a little pain because it had hefty savings from previous years. But the economy began to bite around '84 and '85 when Gen Babangida now went to the IMF for the infamous IMF loan bailout.
The country implemented the IMF 'remedy', the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP). The IMF gave Nigeria various 'conditionalities' such as devaluation of the naira, spending cuts, and liberalisation of trade, ie opening the Nigerian market to all manner of foreign imports. Many developing countries at this time went for the same SAP as their economies struggled. The programme was controversial as it led to many economic problems for countries. That was the beginning of economic travails in Nigeria, and it had absolutely nothing to do with God supposedly being angry with Nigeria for celebrating African culture at FESTAC 77. I find it hard convincing many young people today that my best life was lived in the 70s. A visit to Kingsway stores every weekend for all kinds of treats was a regular staple. My dad was earning N500 a month, had two cars to choose from. We ate it all: corned beef, stockfish (not the head that people eat this day), Provita drink, Green Sands Shandy, and all kinds of exotic foods and drinks. I am still bewildered as to how President Shehu Shagari's government let it all go downhill. Buhari continued from there, then IBB and up until the complete mess we have today. |
Travel › Re: My Life As A 29-Year-Old Nigerian In Accra, Ghana by staga: 8:52pm On Oct 13, 2022 |
As someone who lived in Ghana for two years, I can tell you straight up: most young Nigerians in Ghana are either committing internet fraud (males) or harloting (females).
The conditions set by the Ghanaian government to engage in legitimate business are stringent. Ordinary company registration as a foreigner is N1.4m equivalent. Not to talk of the famous guarantee money to do retail business that has caused a lot of problems for Nigerian traders in the hands of the Ghanaian traders union and the authorities.
To survive there, you must either be a remote worker (like myself), or you enter into a partnership with a local to set up a business (like one or two I know that are making serious money there), and cover your stay there with a not so transparent process that gives you legal stay.
The Ghanaian economy is liberalized in many aspects (such as petroleum products) and it is also a highly dollarized economy. Cost of rent, petroleum products, food, hotels is much higher than Nigeria. Ghana pays VAT of 17.5%.
Other than this, I don't know what anyone would be doing there as a Nigerian to make so much money and become penniless. Hallmarks of the karma that follows the criminal enterprise of internet fraud. |

When Man Utd replaced defenders like Jaap Stam, Gabriele Heinze, Gary Neville, Denis Irwin, Jesper Blomqvist and Patrice Evra with the likes of Phil Jones, Harry Maguire, Darmian and Luke Shaw, has the quality of the team been the same, even though technically, one footballer replaced another in those positions? Can you compare the skills being turned out in Nigerian universities with the equivalents being turned out abroad? Are the skills qualities the same? What is skills shortage? You don't know the meaning mister! |

Mike008: LoL. At the wedding in Canaan that Jesus and Mary attended, I wonder what songs were been played. I personally feel its hypocrisy to refuse a love song to be played on your wedding, to commemorate the love you share with your wife. The book of Songs of Solomon appears very secular but it is biblical nonetheless. If the song is devoid of obscenities or foul language it is not bad.
The greater worry for me is how authoritative and selfish the pastor carried himself without caring what the wife feels. 'That is not my song, somebody change this guy'. The wife is already subjugated Is it your wife? Is it your wedding? Did you not see the wife's stare at the DJ before the husband commented? |

However, this overreaction doesn't absolve that police officers involved of the usual abuse of powers. That is an automatic death sentence in the US. You won't even make it to court. Supposing there was a discharge and a passer-by or even one of the policemen was killed, then what? |

I saw a man hit by a motorcyclist driving one-way at top speed. We cannot have this kind of insanity and wanton display of recklessness on our roads. At some point, the government will have to step in! |

Politics › Re: Save My Life: Sonia Ekweremadu Appeals For Kidney Donation by staga: 10:30pm On Sep 12, 2022 |
eagleccentric: Good day folks, Much as i feel sympathetic towards the poor girl's case and pary that she gets a donor soon and her life be saved, i cannot but express my dismay at the situation and see the role of karma in all this. Our people say it is God that drives away flies from a tailess cow.
It brings to the fore the evilmindedness, selfishness and extreme wickedness of the political class in Nigeria. Note that i didnt say Leaders, but political class/politicians. i have not identified any of our politicians who doubles as a leader, how much more a true one, The lady's father, Senator Ekweremadu has been in the corridors of power for donkey years. He was a Deputy Senate President for 8 years and wielded the power to do and undo. He knew his daughter has such an ailment but he never cared to influence any policy to help her and the poor masses with regards to the issue. What do I mean?
Take for instance, the late President of America, Franklin D, Roosevelt. He was the 32nd President of the USA and ruled from 1933 - 1945. FDR as he was fondly called was diagnosed with polio and from 1921, he was paralyzed from the waist down. Infact, he spent his years as a President on a wheel chair. But guess what, despite the numerous problems that America faced during his regime (the Great Depression of 1933 and WW2 1939-45), FDR worked tirelessly to ensure that polio was eradicated from America. He was the one credited to have singularly achieved that feat. May God bless his soul.
Back home here, our politicians will never do that. What stopped Ekweremadu in the years that he wielded so much power and influence to ensure that a Specialized Kidney Hospital or treatment Centre was built in Nigeria for his daughters sake. He knew he had money to fly her abroad anytime he felt like. This selfishness is not peculiar to him. Same goes for former President Ibrahim Babangida, whose wife died of cancer. He never cared to build one cancer hospital for Nigerians. Oshiomole's first wife had the same case, but he didnt care to put one cancer hospital in Edo State. There are many of them like that. They identify a problem, but as far as they can steal state funds, and tax payers monies to take care of themselves and their families, the rest of us can go and die.
When will we have true leaders in the likes of FDR? Who will use his position to help the poor and priviledged? Our hospitals remain in shambles and our healthcare is comatose. Our God will truly drive away the flies from us.
As i said, i feel so much pity for the young lady. I know because i lost my dear mother to the same kidney issues, so i feel the pain she is right now. But let this be a wake up call to one and all and not just the politicians. If a stone stumbles you on your way, do you stop to take it out so that it doesnt stumble others? If your answer is no, then you are no better than the Ekweremadus, IBBs and Oshiomoles of this world. A little help today can save a lot tomorrow.
May God help us all. Amen Anwar Sadat was a diabetic. During his time as president of Egypt, he made the treatment of diabetes and all its complications 100% free for all Egyptians afflicted by the disease. Which legacy has any one in Nigerian government left for us? Despite the president's son being saved by Nigerian doctors in a Nigerian hospital (he could never have survived a flight abroad in the first three days of his head injuries), what did the President do as a legacy health project in the memory of Yusuf's survival? NADA, ZILCH, NOTHING! Well, he who sows the wind must prepare to reap the whirlwind (Hosea Chapter 8 v 7). |
