Nice one from the stars...I particularly felt the sheer happiness on the faces of these displaced Nigerians who must have been going through a rough time with the lost of many of their Lives's properties. Kudos again to Aki and Pawpaw, |
There have been steady efforts to turn Lagos, a city with a fearsome reputation, into a fashion destination. They reached new heights at the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week that ran from Oct. 24 to 27 and drew European high-fashion brands such as the United Kingdom’s Selfridges & Co. and Munich-based MyTheresa.com to Nigeria for the first time. Ituen Basi’s newspaper inspired Spring/Summer 2013 collection was among 39 collections spotlighted at the city’s latest major fashion week. The Nigerian label’s collection evoked fun and glamour through its use of print and color — characteristics which have come to define the vibrant local fashion scene. With local brands seeking wider platforms and international retailers hungry for novelty, designers and buyers see opportunities for collaboration. “There’s something about the fresh, the unknown, the possibility of seeing a new brand springing forth into the limelight. ... These are becoming interesting to people outside Nigeria,” said Omoyemi Akerele, the fashion week’s founder and creative director. An encouraging response to African-inspired designs by top Western labels gives buyers confidence that designs straight from the continent will also sell. “Over the past few seasons, there’s been a strong trend for print,” said Bruno Barba, the brand public relations manager at Selfridges. “If you look at the collection of Burberry inspired by Africa last year; there was also Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith. ... They’ve made that inspiration quite mainstream now. So, for us, it was interesting to take that trend and take it from its roots in Africa.” Online retailer MyTheresa.com, which ships top designers’ clothes including Miu Miu, Givenchy, Lanvin and Isabel Meron to clients in 120 different countries, is also looking for products in Nigeria that will sell well. The company hopes that will set it apart from the competition in a fast-paced industry. “For me, Nigeria represents a fun individualism,” the company’s buying director Justin O’Shea said. He also said that MyTheresa.com was looking to work closely with designers and adapt products for their clientele if needed. Previously, several Nigerian designers have helped put the West African nation on the global fashion map. Deola Sagoe has gained recognition from U.S. Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley and Oprah Winfrey. London-based Duro Olowu is considered one of Michelle Obama’s favorite designers. Maki Oh has dressed American singer Solange Knowles and Hollywood actress Leelee Sobieski from her Lagos workshop. Jewel By Lisa, who has also dressed celebrities, designed limited edition BlackBerry mobile phone skins and jeweled cases for Canadian manufacturer Research In Motion Ltd...... http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/european-fashion-buyers-look-to-nigeria-for-something-fresh-at-lagos-fashion-week/2012/10/29/3bee69fa-21c6-11e2-92f8-7f9c4daf276a_story.html |
okpara ugo: Rubbish if you ask me. How will this improve the delapidated state of Enugu-Portharcourt expresswayBros, u right that Enugu-PH road na eyesore, in fact na heartsore too. But d contract for that road has recently been broken into 4 sections and given to 4(four) different contractors in order that d work currently going on there would pick up and finish as quickly as possible. The President himself said during his budget speech that #24billion have already been paid to d contractors. Dont know d names of d contractors but maybe its about time we found out and diligently follow d project in order to hold dose contractors, GEJ and d Min of Works to account. anyways, we are talking about aviation here... |
Gbawe: What would it profit me to engage an uncouth olodo and reprobate like you in a back-and-forth? You need to go and learn how to spell. perhaps a return to Primary school might be best. Also, go and learn what the PAC asked ,in entirety, of GEJ before you simplistically limited your bleating to recurrent expenditure alone. Folks like you are not very bright. You are merely feudalistic, bellicose, and reactionary i.e , pertinent to Nairaland, you follow others around trying to counter their utterance with m0r0nic argument devoid of logic. Only a ridiculous and deceitful apologist of your shameless caliber will defend how GEJ is 'famous' for ridiculously mindless and insensitive profligacy. Just say "na awa time" as others on this forum do and stop the unbelievable theatrics that defies sense as per what your messiah is universally known for.Oya clean that running nose of yrs and clap for yrself..kpa kpa kpakpakpa kpaaa..... YESsss....well done you did what every 'good' Propagandists does: run away from directly responding to clear facts that wud hurt ya azzz, in stead shift d 'discussion' a little by bringing in anoda tin in oda to properly run away from d facts- all of which is in d Manual. You see hw u just told dat guy ,who dared to challenge you, that reduction in Recurrent Budget, Overhead and Deficit does not mean that Cost of Governance wud be reducd...infact, give me a high five, yaaa....didnt you see how u even brought an ancient article from SaharaDISTORTERS( sori i meant REPORTERS) in order to enhance dis claim and reinforce yr former claim that 'GEJ has not done anything' to reduce d cost of governance even though he had reducd Recurrent expedition, Overhead and Deficit. Infact, clap for yrself again..kpa kpa kpakpakpa kpaaaa..LOUDER...kpa kp.....*throws chair*i thought i told u to clean that running nose of yrs..... |
bigtt76: So remodeling of Airports in the country meant for very few is now a sign of 'Government working?' SMH ....We really need to change our way of thinking. Out of 150 Million + Nigerians out there ...how many uses these airports? In the rural areas are millions without good roads, water, electricity or health care but yet we deem it fit to remodel the airports to ferry to and fro the same people messing up this country? You must receive good news at least for today by fire or by force. That spirit of always accepting bad news- accidents, floods, kidnapping, pipeline vandalism, domestic violence, corruptn, ethnicism, ALUU,BH- is cast away from you at least for today in d MIGHTY name of Jesu, Amin..Release!....u are FREE at least for today..... Oya, raise up yr hands and give thanks |
nwabobo: Why is it that only 3 ministries seem to have been above board viz;Abeg mk una no bring all those una ethnicism come here. Arguably, d most performing Min in GEJ cabinet currently is the Min for Agriculture- dr Adesina, he is Yoruba. The Min for Trade and Industry( Edo or Lagos- i no really know) and d Min for Transport( d guy overseeing d railways rehabilitation and revival, the improved seaports and inland waterways is a northerner) are doing well too The 3 u named are doing well sha but no bi because dem bi Igbos |
chucky234: Look more like a shopping complex than an airport to me,shoprite's outer view is far better than the outside view of that airport.Chucki, abeg shut yr mouth. Hv u bn to dis 'new' Benin airport? If dat is too far, walk into similarly remodelled GAT in lagos...no worry i go try post hw dis Benin airport be b4 |
Mcdugull: Building and remodelling more Airport while more and more Airlines are closing shops. Na fulani rams and cows go de use the runways and bandit go take shelter for termacGuy, Govt doesn't run businesses for people. Anyways, 2 Very important things is presently been done in order to aid domestic airlines: 1st, the recent zero duty and VAT on imported planes and spare parts that would help airlines save about #130m on every plane bought and brought into d country; and 2nd, the new single digit loan facility, announced just last 2wks by d Minister which is to be administered by d CBN, and is expected to help d airlines wit their financial difficulties although dis time around d money is to be paid as leasing fee to d manufacturers directly( so that d loan is actually used for airlines) who would also be expected build Hangers in-country in order to further reduce d costs of taking aircrafts out of d country for checks and repairs. These 2 measures which airlines and stakeholders in d aviation sector have been asking for for years should help d airlines cut costs, restructure and perhaps aid d resuscitation of closed airlines or birth of new ones. Heard that 4 new airlines would be registered nx year. Anyways, these 11 remodelled airports which have previously not been touched for more than 30yrs since most of them were built and were an embarrassing eyesore to many of us, are a welcomed news and should be seen as part of d process, not an end in itself. So kudos to d Min of Aviation. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/business/aviation/unions-hail-zero-per-cent-tariff-for-airlines/ http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php/other-sections/lead-stories/179166-flight-delays-nigeria-to-begin-aircraft-hires |
Gbawe: You ethnic jingoist are sickening !!!! You can play the ethnic card all you want but the entire world knows GEJ has a habit of doing this sort of thing. Do we not remember the Presidential advisory committee set up by GEJ and led by Danjuma? When , before the election, they made their submission telling GEJ to reduce profligacy, bloated governance and our unacceptably destructive recurrent expenditure running at over 70%, what did GEJ do? He did absolutely nothing and did not even acknowledge their report !!!You are slimming fellow( sori propagandists) as usual, and not very good at it...GEJ met a Recurrent budget that hv bn increasing from a little more than 60% to 77.1% when he became president, that yearly increase has not only been stoppd but has bn decreasing yearly to a proposed 68.7% in d new budget(almost 2% below the rate many experts thought dis govt cud reduce it to ie 70%). The yearly increase in d Overhead( a measure of d cost of governance) has also not only been halted but has bn cut by half from about from about #526billion in 2010 when he came in to about #230billion today; just as the deficit as a % of GDP has also decreasd from around 3.35% when he came to 2.85% dis yr and 2.17% proposd nx yr. Shld he do more? Absolutely- and the president has already put in d plannd MTFD(2013-2015) already wit d National assembly plans to even carry on d reductn momentum by implementing d Oronsaye's report that proposd drastic cuts in govt agencies- but to say in public wit a straight face dat ' he did absolutely nothing', simply defines you and yr real intents... I pray dat very soon, inspite of yrself, you leave this Guerilla Style('Hit-and-run') propagandist tactics of yrs and Debate yr point. I DARE YOU TO DO SO |
loco4love: You folks are talking about Presidential condemnation of Northern Nigerian Jihadis a.k.a Boko Haram and I am laughing like a hyena in my room as I am reading this thread.Plz what hv u just said? What is/are yr point(s)? |
erniok: Ohh.... I get it. So the praise singers were from Abuja and that was were they got the accreditation from right? No, GEJ is the best thing that happened to Naija after cassava.Dont be silly. The point i was mking was that d journalists that were not allow in were most probably Akwa ibom basd journalists who got their accreditatn messd up. If you know anything bout presidential ffs, u wud hardly be allowd into a ff afta d President has bn seatd Or if there is even a zinch wit yr accreditatn; very many 'big men'(governors, traditional rulers, diplomats etc) hv bn 'embarrasd' cos of dis. If d security details of d President feels u are nt accredictd or dat u are late, they wud nt allow u in no mata who u are or hw much u complain; i presume dis wud be even more pursued cos of d current security challenges in d country...there is really nothing here, i dont know why i even commentd on dis thread |
erniok: What security protocol thrash are you talking here. Did journalists covering of presidential functionaires start with this Akwa Ibom episode or haven't you noticed that GEJ has dictatorial leanings. So GEJ has dictatorial leanings? Oh well, dats a 1st; wetin pesin no go hear 4 NL.... By d way, check d article again to see if dose journalists that were not cleard by d security team are journalists that are accredictd to the President Or just those of Akwa Ibom |
Hahaha..it just occurrd to me that if it was anoda person who made or was said to hv made d statements credictd to d Deputy Senate President on d 'illiteracy' of d lawmakers, the entire Assembly wud hv bn up at arms- calling for public hearings, threatening, calling for resignatns and sackings etc- but now since it wud be 'obituary' one of dier own that is said to hv said this, SILENCE.....Anyways, @topic d National Assembly and d Executive shld quit binkering as KIDS even if they disagree; there are serious things that needs doing |
Devonian: I humbly beg to not only disagree with your messianic theory and propaganda, but also the twisted claim that there is nothing GEJ can do. Listen! In the developed world, let's cite two examples: UK and US, Mulsim terrorists keep making attempts geared twoards blowing up people, buildings, etc, whilst security agents M15 (in the UK) and FBI (in the US) keep trailing these terrorists and nibbling them before they carry out their dastardly acts. Only last week, an attempt by a 21-year-old Bangladeshi man studying in the US, to blow up the New York Federal Reserve Bank was uncovered by FBI agents (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/18/nyregion/arrest-in-plot-to-blow-up-federal-reserve-bank.html). In the same week, in the UK, plans by British Al-Qaeda gang to unleash 'another 9/11' in UK was uncovered by security agents (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/terrorism-in-the-uk/9625280/British-Al-Qaeda-gang-planned-another-911-in-UK.html#). There is a lot that Nigerian security agents can do if the government really wants them to go after these monsters including their patrons - whoever they may be! The government, through the security apparatuses, needs to fish out members and patrons of Boko Haram. Individually and collectively, they can't be bigger than the state. If Bin Laden was smoked out, killed and deposited in the Atlantic, so can the barons sponsoring Boko Haram. Well you 'forgot' to also inform us that d UK repeatdly was d scene of heinous bombings by Irish nationalists for more than 30yrs that affectd not just ordinary membas of d UK society but even membas of d UK cabinet and membas of d Royal family. Guy, extremism is much more complex than what you just describd, much complex.. By d way, some real important work are bn done militarily, where more work is needed is politically and governance across all levels of govt esp in d north. And Yes u are right- the President is ultimately responsible for the security of lives and properties of Nigerians |
pappy2000: I guess by your own write up you agree that there is so much corruption in the oil industry which predates this administration, but your line of argument is very laughable you said that other people joined obj cronies and since we can't get obj cronies for now, then the oil minister should continur her maladministration. It pathetic for young men to depend corruption in such a manner,so where is the hope for this country,we all know that corruption is problem of our nation.Thought we were hving a discussion on yr claim dat d proposed PIB made d oil industry 'a personal estate of d Minister' and yr claim that she shld resign over her not knowing d amount of crude producd? Plz dont mk claims in public that u cannot or do not hv d intention to defend.....by d way on dis particular comment, you cannot blame smone who met a broken system that he/she is trying to fix for the negative results of dat system whether b4 or during dat person's tenure except you hv Specific infractions that dat person did in d course of fixing it. This is common sense |
@Ndu-Chuks. I thought you said you were Igbo? *laughing*. Anyways, to more serious stuffs..yes Reprisals are condemnable and as you said those that carry it out are just as criminal as the instigators of the violence( in this case misguided Islamic extremists), but unfortunately it is to be expected henceforth in the poisoned environment of today's north. I would NEVER support reprisals and would continue to condemn it; but I find myself no longer having the urge to condemn it as much as I used to. For me, this is cos of the extremely annoying and frustrating attitude of majority of Muslims( including the Moderate ones) to do any thing possible to defend the 'image' of Islam and in so doing refuse to hit the nail exactly where they ought to. Most northern Muslims would blame anything, person, institution, idea for the ongoing BH atrocities- CIA, Mossad, FG, govt, Igbos, CAN, poverty, marginalizatn, 'injustice', 'enemies of islam', neighboring countries and recently even Kanuris and JTF- anything except some misguided members of their faith in a self-defeating attempt to protect the 'image' of Islam( a DUTY); like i said previously, it is extremely annoying ad frustrating. Just as I told someone recently, if northern Muslims(elites and talakawas) spent just half the time and vehemence they use in condemning JTF recently in consistently condemning the few misguided madmen amongst themselves, we would have been seeing the end of BH by now. But NO, every time a bomb goes off or a person is killed, phantom organisations/persons are immediately manufactured as people who 'are enemies of Islam and want to destroy the north'; and then just for effect, the usual song of 'Islam means peace' is repeatly sung as though any one said they we didnt know a religion can be peaceful yet some of its members can be committing atrocities in the name of that religion( i mean it even happened in Christianity at a time). It is also as though they think we do not know that bombs go off in many countries in the world today and the usual people performing this acts- abi na CAN or Igbos they do those ones. Once again, I condemn Reprisals but I feel sorry for many persons if these bombings and present attitudes subsist. |
My revolution has already started. History must know my name younger generations will study my days. I Will fight and die for my country, NIGERIA. THIS CRAP MUST STOP.
Well, at least I hope you plan on doing this 'your revolution', as you put it, in Nigeria( i mean you are doing it for Nigeria, right?), not in Houston Texas in far-away US of A. ...and oh, I have no doubt that History would know your name; but just what would 'younger generations study' about your days( plz how old are you again?).. .....see seriously, we all love Nigeria passionately; i do and I believe you do. I have respect for any Nigerian living abroad who takes it upon him/herself to diligently follow the happenings in Nigeria, so probably you can 'die for Nigeria' as you said. What I have a problem with is the tendency for not probably thinking through the 'cures' or paths we are prescribing and following to attain the end we all so desperately want- A NIGERIA THAT FULFILLS HER GREATNESS AND PROTECTS THE DREAMS OF THE MAJORITY OF HER PEOPLE. If you love Nigeria and think things through, you would think about the CONSEQUENCES of the paths you are recommending. The best. |
OH HELL TO THE NO YOU DIDN'T? How dare you challenge me about revolution. EINSTEIN! I am f...king entitilted to my opinions. Next time, when one of your relative's legs get blown off. clap and dance, alright. MR WORLD PEACE.... To answer your last question Yes. Libya and Egypt is better than Nigeria. TURTLE.
What have you said now..I asked specific questions and this is how you respond? You obviously think this is a joke, right? Like am the older Kid that you wanna make play with, abi? And want was that about you asking me not to 'dare' you? Could that be the start of the 'revolution', yours i mean: e-Revolution on NL, perhaps? smh |
juman: I also noticed that the accidents are increasing. Probably too much reckless driving. Are accidents really increasing Or d rate of reporting dem is increasing? U know, social media and all |
so much accidents and deayhs from ogun state recently. The governor must be blood loving maaan. God save us. RIP
How does accidents show dat d Gov 'must be a blood loving man'? Smh |
I AM APPALED AT THE STATE OF SECURITY AND TOTAL DISREGARD FOR HUMAN SAFETY IN MY OWN COUNTRY. Yesterday it was lynching Today is bombing Tommorow who knows. This CRAP needs to stop and stop soon Until Nigerian YOUTH do what the EGYPTIANS DID.... This nonsense will persist.
Sm of u kids always keen on talking about Revolution; if you saw a Revolution can stand it. You think it is a word to be playd around wit; pick a book and check out d history of revolutions, at least hv a little handle at d consequences of what u are asking for....and oh, d Egyptians and Libyans are so beta off now, right? |
Prof Bribery: The moderator on this forum is a coward. What's the justification for banning Prof Corruption while others were allowed to continue posting without any form of restraint? What kind of selective justice is that? Shame on the moderator.@Prof Corruption. Is this hw you intend to fight against corruption, arguing like a market woman? Later you and @Omo_tier go dey claim moral high ground whereas una be ethnic bigots and regional champions #hypocrites....smh at every body on dis thread fo.oling demselves over ridiculous time like 'tribalism' when sm very important work need doing in d country including d fixing of roads( which brought d argument in d 1st place- but dem forget) #confusdpeople |
pappy2000: Can I ask you a question, how many version of the PIB do we have, the version you are talking. About is the version which amkes the overall oil industry the private estate of the oil ministerThere is only one version of PIB dis time around( dat God) which is currently wit d National Assembly. Hw many versions do u know?.... And i dont get dis idea that d 'Minister' wud be too powerful in d current PIB; i mean i hv d bill and hv read it and cant get d context of d claim. Cud u point out to me in what ways d Minister's powers wud markedly increase both relative to d current powers in dat office and/or what is necessary for that office going forward( plz do not mk general statements; be specific- i wudn't mind a debate)?... Moreova, hw can d argument be made dat this Minister increasd her powers just for herself when she wont be in dat positn for more than 3 yrs? Can you mk any sense of dat? ...... Oh by d way, what does dis hv to do wit d proposd law mking it compulsory for oil companies to hv metering systems on dier platforms which wud help us know for d 1st time d quantity of crude we are producing( that was what we were discussing right?) |
pappy2000: This is a woman that cannot tell us the amount of crude that is pumped ot daily. This is a woman that lied to the nation.to you she is the best performing minister.Guy plz be informd b4 asserting things. This is not her fault at all, infact she shld be commended in dis respect. Nigeria has neva known d amount of crude she produces; it is actually under her that real moves are been made to rectify this. The PIB whose drafting she oversaw mks it compulsory for the 1st time dat oil companies must hv a metering system on dier platforms, And only recently d President orderd d reorganisatn of d almost moribund Weights and Measures into a dept in d Min of Trade and Industry and dier monitoring of crude oil liftings of oil platforms |
sheyguy: The report they say had so many 'damning revelations'. If i may ask, under whose watch did the whole episode tøok place? And what are d 'daming revelatns' plz and who perpetuatd it |
SOH KAH TOA: I share in most part of your views and your thought as good as mine. I think we should wait for more information and revelation on this especially on the signature bonuses if truly they were missing.. For the minister resigning, I will say no to that for obvious reasons.. The minister met the subsidy regime as well as a very corrupt system. You won't expect her to abruptly put a hurt to the corruption which was almost institutionalised. If you had followed the subsidy debate, you would have understood that Alison Madueke, NOI and SLS were the protagonists of the removal as a surest way to put a hurt to the fraud and this was barely one year into her tenure as a minister. In as much as I am not her spokesman, we may need look beyond her to seek justice.I undastad yr points but i bliv that ppl take responsibility on what happens under their watch, whether they contributd to it directly or not- we ought to be pushing this culture more often in Nigeria. I agree that she was one of those persons that wantd to clean d system by removing d corrupt subsidy system that has bn in place b4 her coming in but for almost a yr afta she enterd it continued and sm persons fleezd d nation |
Smone shld help me out here; i just want to be clear bout what this 'MASSIVE' fraud is about: 11 discretionary licenses were given, 3 of which were given by dis admin; and discretionary licenses, as d report said, are not illegal( even if a case can be made for its discontinuance- i dont kw if such is reflectd in d proposd PIB bill). Now, d real problem seem to be that the signature bonuses of d 11 licenses hv bn declard 'missing' by d report( which cud eida be that it was stolen OR dat it has just not yet been reconcild). I usd d word 'Or' cos i was wondering how signature bonuses for licenses( including d 3) wud be outrightly stolen when these licenses where open even if given by d discretn of Minister or President; 2nd, wudnt it be a very foolish minister that wud appoint a committee made up of ppl like Ribadu, Agbakoba and others to reconcild payments systems bw govt and oil comps if she has just stolen an open thing like signature bonuses( we are nt talking bout kick-backs here which knowing wot i know bout d oil industry almost certainly wud hv bn involvd on all levels)...if this is what dis 'massive' fraud is all about, i say i wud wait 4 more info... I hweva support d call 4 d resignatn of d oil minister cos smone has got to tk responsibility for the subsidy fraud eida 4 collusn and/or incompetence or just tking responsibility for bn minister at d time; she shld also go so dat d strong forces who hv bn afta her even b4 she became minister of Pet wud no longa hv any excuse to try to derail important reforms going on in d sector. GEJ can then appoint anoda person 4rm d SS |
ayobase: Sweet and thoughtful! What is 'thoughtful' about this..this is just a literary piece that usd a lot of hyperboles( exageratns) to make a point.... This isn't thoughtfulness, it is an artistic(sic?) piece with good moral 'lessons' |
Complete waste of money.... I wud even disagree with Anambra( esp d Onitsha axis) hving an airport for now cos of d one in Asaba, talkless of Delta state hving anoda. There are bridges and roads as well as medical facilities to be improvd and constructd...#waste |
PDP, ACN, CPC, ANPP- what is d difference? |
Ganys: Why Catholic church Everytime, Im smelling Pentacoster Conspiracy Here..Papa Oritsejafor, The Blood is in your HANDs...God Dey sha..YES blame it on anything else cept Muslims extremists. That was what i was just talking about- Pentecostal churches can now be added to d 'list'.. Blame away; i undastad it is a DUTY |
ARES: My brother, relax, I am a christain and I condem outright generalization of issues like u just did. For the fact that cliford orji was a ritualist and also was a christain, and an igbo man, does that mean that christainity condone such act?Agreed...esp on d Generalization tin |
