Please can a statistician plot a pie chart of the percentage that tithe represents in the money collected by the church. i would like to know to have a better perspective, as to why pastors are still insisting on collecting tithes, that from my own understanding where meant for the Levites, who did not own any properties. |

If you give that your tithe money to the poor understand that you are giving to his house like that because that poor person is also the house.
Come to think of it, it is more sensible to place value to fellow human being than to place value to a religious building and all it ordinances and pastors that will collapse some day Our modern day pastor would not find your message funny... babaskool: Yes 30k dollars is just about 10 million naira And yes 30k can build a petrol station I have statistics in documentary form to back these facts up. Nevertheless by my statistics here is a summary of how much it costs to build a petrol station in Nigeria 1.Empty Land ( 1plot is idea but 2 plots is preferable -budget -500k -900k
2. Service station ( this is the building in the middle of every petrol station where the attendants stay or dispense other items except petrol from or where the managers office is located.. It is commonly a rectangular shaped building the size of 2 rooms. Mud blocks can be used to save cost and cheap corrugated roof can be used in it's construction since it building itself is almost useless as it doesn't in real sense bring any income for the petrol station when in operation. Budget 1.5 million to 2 million ( foundation 400k, construction to lintel 300k, roofing and plastering 1.2milion naira )
3. Underground tank - this is the actual most important part of a petrol station so it's advisable to build this first before constructing the service station ...price varies but most popular version is in form of a septic tank which almost everyone has in thier homes just that the plastering would be different to accommodate the petroleum products to be kept In them....budget 800k to 1.5 million naira
4. Fuel pumps/dispensers - for some very crazy reasons fuel pumps and dispensers cost a fortune even though it's a pump and an electronic meter to measure the quantity of liquid being dispensed is in all of them.... Fuel dispensers are expensive so budget 1 million for each unit ... The minimum you need is 2 units, on average you might need 3 fuel dispensers ....so budget 3 million
5. Shield for the fuel dispenser...this is made to provide shelter and illumination for the fuel pumps. They can be made from anything so far it does the job ...budget 200k
6.misclleanoues expenses which include the cost of applying for license to lift petroleum from Nnpc depots (if you have ur own tanker if not you can simply enter an agreement with someone that has ) and other operating costs -1 million naira
Total costs 1.empty land- 500k 2.service station- 1.5 million 3.fuel dispensers - 3 million 4.fuel shield/shelter-200k 5.operating and misclleanoues costs -1million
So total less than 6 million naira so in an effort to answer your question not only would 10 million build a petrol station in Nigeria, it can even build 2 petrol stations and make back the 10 million in less than 2 months of opening
Your sincerely Akinola eluyefa esq Nicely said,,, but sadly things hardly work that way, before you know it the fuel station might be ear marked for demolition, because the lawyer did not ensure that the proper C/O of was obtained, hope you get my drift, or that the road network has to expanded, no problem the person who invested all his money in developing the petrol station, might wait forever to get government compensation... things hardly work the way it should, in this Country. |

chronique: @ OP: all my life, I have never been a fan of traveling out of Nigeria to go and start a new life but with the current situation of what I'm seeing here, I might be forced to take that decision in 2019 if we make the mistake of electing another idiot into power. Nigeria is a perfect example of what a nation should never be like. There is a place of patriotism, and there is a place of reality. No doubt, there are people making it in Nigeria but then, you have to ask "at what cost "? At the cost of your sanity? You are probably used to a sane environment where practically everything works well. Coming to Nigeria, expect a total opposite of what you are currently enjoying... I'm yet to find something that one can easily get in Nigeria without having to cut corners. There are businesses that you have to do and you would have to settle a lot of insiders before it flies. Sometimes, it eats into your profit so much and you end up not really getting what you want. Look, I don't want to scare you but your $30,000 might not be able to get you through what you have planned down. You'd have to learn the ropes of how to do business in Nigeria and truthfully, be prepared for the worse. Apart from the cost of living, Nigeria is not totally a perfect place to live if you want your sanity. Like I said earlier on, the current government is a disaster and whoever we elect in 2019 would determine a lot. If we elect another idiot in 2019, I'd start packing my things and find my square root cause the country is deteriorating daily. Before you relocate back fully, think things through. There are almost no jobs and doing business here, is quite expensive and almost frustrating. Only the strong can survive. If you don't have that strong survival, rugged and determined spirit, pls stay where you are. Only the strong can survive. ... you mean Only the Corrupt can survive.... The problem is really our leaders, i always laugh when i see someone that scammed me on a deal, preaching to youths on various platform and widely televised, on how to make it the right way... Sadly Nigerians believe all the media propaganda. |

Some have never been out of their state of birthday not to talk of out of Nigeria. I live in both the UK and Nigeria. Truth be told there is a lot of hardship in Nigeria. The collapse of the currency has made nonsense of people's incomes and the level of unemployment is higher. Most of the unemployed are graduates of our dysfunctional educational and are mostly unemployable. Without real skills and a lack of understanding of how t hings work in the modern workplace, they are disadvantaged from all levels. You can live in Nigeria. Keep a low profile, invest what money you have any of the several low risk ventures while scouring the internet for jobs that require your skill set I your best option. You must have some trusted educated family members you can talk to. The fellows here will confuse you with their infantile and street hunger advice that will be largely a mirror of their lives. People are making good lives here. Good lives... with the level of poverty all around you... i don't get it! |

What really has changed... it seems everything remains the same, so this is the change Nigerians voted for... i am truly disappointed if Adeosun interferes in what is simply an organisation (SEC) exercising its function to protect the rights of the shareholders and ensure no sacred cows in the administration of publicly quoted companies. It was the same Adeosun that was saying Nigeria can not afford to borrow more foreign loans, and emphasized the need to look inward to finance (she got my admiration for this bold statement) but i guess when the Cabal knocked common sense into her she suddenly changed her tune that Nigeria needs to borrow massively to fund capital development projects. No template of how the funds borrowed would be judiciously used and repaid and why previous funds borrowed are yet to be fully repaid. Really nothing has changed from corruption to corruption from debt to more debt. Only God knows how he plans to bring the Messiah that will save Nigeria from this mess that we are finding ourselves. Which way Nigeria! |

Mark the difference: Christians and Jews.
Christians are no longer under the Jewish law.
Tithe was an observation under the Jewish law for the sake of the priestly duties in the temple, but since the temple and it duties no longer exist, that was abolished when Jesus who came with a spiritual priesthood arrived. Simple and straight to the point... this will just make our pastorpreneur much sadder. |

salt1: This is not a case of 'I'm better than others ". But just you know that not all churches are in this business of fleecing others. Apostolic Faith Church with headquarters at Anthony Village doesn't pass collection plates, in fact, hasn't done so for more than 100years. There is an offering box at the back where people go, at their convenience, to drop their contributions to the church or even gifts for members to ensure anonymity. Nobody knows or keeps a record of who is paying what.
The church organizes evangelism to schools, visits to the blind centres, hospitals and prisons. Gifts of food, clothing and financial support are taken to these places every week. Apostolic Faith preaches old-fashioned Christian integrity messages and the need to live a transparent Christian life to make heaven. I know such churches are not very popular because they don't have flamboyant leaders but servant volunteers who, instead of receiving from the flock, are making their tents, (yes many of the pastors are volunteers not on salaries) and supporting others. As I said, this is just for information and to spare us from making generalizations Thanks for sharing this information... honestly i am tired of all this family church business, pastor passes over church to wife, wife passes to son or daughter and so goes on the cycle... it just feels more like a commercial venture... |

dankol: I took my time to read and understand the Bishop here. Atleast give him the benefit of the doubt. And I would always say over and over again. I so admire him as a BUSINESSMAN. Yes. Still i dont buy his methods of using God to extort from guilible members.. But then, he made valid points with respect to the state of education in the country as a justification for the university's cost and try to explain how unprofitable what service they are offering as against the general opinion. He is quite convincing BUT then, i think he is just trying to show that christianity can lead the way, can do what the government can not do. And more importantly creating a PARALLEL SYSTEM. it is actually only going to boast his ego... it wont have as much impact as expected. Yes.. Why? What is the essence of creating a service platform (using his words) and yet very minute few can enjoy such services. The THING IS NO GOVERNMENT PROFIT FROM EDUCATING HER PEOPLE ON A SHORT-TERM LIKE BUT 1MILLION AND GET 1.5MILLION NEXT YEAR. nope... It is a neccessary investment and hence the subsidy. So if you cant do what the government is doing, then dont venture into government's business. simple. For me, i would rather have a memorandum of Understanding with the government to co-fund our public universities, equip them and let it benefit an average Nigerian student. With the church co-supervision, and a strict adherence to the MOU.. things will improve. IT CAN BE IN BACTHES, OK, pick one federal and a state uni/poly/college in every geho-political zone and help then upgrade to standard.. Also, it should be a CAN thing. They will make more impact in Nigeria than fighting buhari over frivolous issues like sukkuh bond. The lives you would affect will long surpass the spoilt rich kids you think you are helping. Sorry, no offence but it is evident that only the rich can afford private schools and in as much as they deserve the best in education.. others too deserve such irrespective of their religious affiliations. Your bolded statement is quite fantastic, sadly most pastors are more interested in building their personal fiefdom. Really why should pastors watch the continued decay in our public institutions... This is the best way forward MOU, PPP with public universities. |
