@titiloyeblog.com A former Minister of Education and human rights activist, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari for what she referred to as a “callous joke about insecurity.” Ezekwesili was reacting to a video in which the President had equated the dwindling weight of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, to his working hard at securing the nation. After he arrived the country from his 10-day private visit on Sunday, a reporter had asked the President: “Are we likely to see a different approach in the fight against insecurity, especially kidnapping, which is a big issue now, Sir?” And the President had responded: “You know, I have just seen the IG, he is… I think he is losing weight; so, I think he is working very hard.” Ezekwesili took exception to the President’s response, noting that it was a “callous joke about insecurity after ten days of Buhari leaving his country for some opaque private visit.” In a series of tweets on Monday, Ezekwesili said, “Citizens of every country have the power to determine how their political class can treat them;” noting that, “Until we are collectively ready to end the joke that our political class has turned Nigeria into, they’ll continue.” She said she had frankly decided to never again waste her voice on a political class that has no redeeming prospect of caring about their citizens, “But I could not hold back at this callous joke about insecurity after ten days of Muhammadu Buhari leaving his country for some opaque private visit.” “And this is supposed to be funny? A President Buhari making a joke of the daily drenching of the country in the blood of his citizens who are killed daily without any consequence while he bears the title Commander-in-Chief?” She then warned, “Carry on. Someday the citizens will be ready.” source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/ezekwesili-slams-buharis-comment-on-igs.html

@titiloyeblog.com After just 12 days in theaters worldwide, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has surpassed the 21-year global box office record of $2.128 billion held by Titanic. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that according to box office reports, the Marvel flick has become the second-highest grossing film in the world, with an estimated $2.189 billion. This record was cemented by the $619.7 million it has grossed domestically, which also eclipsed the $600.8 million ‘Titanic’ grossed in its initial theatrical run after opening in December 1997. The historical-romantic epic ‘Titanic’ also grossed an additional $58.6 million in re-releases in 2012 and 2017 which was noted by box office sales records. Reports also show that ‘Avengers’ has rapidly become one of the highest grossing films ever in China, with an astonishing $545.8 million since it opened there on April 24. The movie broke every possible box office record when it debuted with $1.22 billion worldwide, including $357 million domestically. The film has since eased off that blistering pace in the US and Canada, however, earning an estimated $145.8 million over its second weekend. This figures fell a little short and could not quite pass the $149.2 million second weekend record set by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ over the Christmas holiday in 2015. When factoring in ticket price inflation, Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ still has some ground to cover. On the Box Office Mojo’s chart of inflation-adjusted grosses, the best (if imperfect) measure of a film’s overall popularity with domestic audiences, Endgame ranks as roughly the 42nd highest grossing film of all time. By comparison, when adjusting for inflation, Titanic grossed roughly $1.16 billion in theaters in the US and Canada in its initial release. Due to varying ticket price inflation rates and unreliable record keeping, it is virtually impossible to reasonably adjust for box office inflation worldwide. However, fans worldwide are hoping the movie breaks ‘Avatar’s box office records of $2.788 which it made from Dec. 2009 through Feb. 2010. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/avengers-endgame-beats-titanics-212bn.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, prof800, UjSizzle, Briareos

@titiloyeblog.com Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo has vowed to kill the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Dokubo said that the struggle for the actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra has been compromised by the IPOB leader. In a video he shared on Facebook on Wednesday morning, he wondered why Kanu is running instead of facing the Nigerian Government squarely. He also called out Kanu for alleged killing Prophet Anthony Nwoko, insisting he has not killed anyone before, even as a Muslim. In his words, “our fellow Biafrans, in this period of darkness, a few people have decided to thrash our struggle in the blood of our own people. So that they will become Supreme leaders, saviors, and messiahs. We didn’t see the red flag, the signals were always there but some people saw it before us. But because we believed that Biafra must be achieved with any means possible, we did not see these dangerous signals early enough. He then went on to say, 'Nnamdi Kanu, I will kill you, mark my words, because in this killing business ooo I am a professional o”.watch video here: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/nnamdi-kanu-i-will-kill-you-mark-my.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com Cross River State governor, Prof Ben Ayade, has promised to pay the new N30, 000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government. Ayade, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Tina Agbor, promised to implement the new minimum wage as soon as necessary modalities are sorted out by the Federal Government. The governor made this known at the May Day rally in Calabar on Wednesday just as workers in the state got their salaries for the month of May. The state chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Clarkson Otu, said workers and the leadership of labour were unhappy over such early payment of salaries by the state government even though the government means well. “As labor leaders, we do not support it (early salaries payment). We have told His Excellency that it is not proper. “April salary was paid only last week and on May 1st he pays May salary. We are surprised he still paid early this month in spite of our protest. We will continue to engage him on that,” he said. The state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ben Ukpepi also decried the early payment of salaries by the state government. Ukpepi said the leadership of labor under him will engage with the governor with a view to putting an end to early payments of salaries in the state. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/cross-river-workers-unhappy-with-may.html L

@titiloyeblog.com Men of the Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) Victory in Calabar, Cross River State, have arrested three Cameroonians and five Nigerians for allegedly attempting to smuggle out 105 drums of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, to Cameroon. Commander NNS Victory, Commodore Vincent Okeke, who addressed reporters at their jetty in Calabar said the product worth about N6 million was obtained from Oron in Akwa Ibom State. He said the matter was still under investigation. Okeke, who also handed over 357 bags of contraband rice worth N7 million and six suspects to the Nigeria Customs Service, said they would not relent in ensuring smugglers are out of business. “We are handing over the rice to Customs today. The PMS and suspects are undergoing investigation. We would hand over when we finish the investigation. We would not give up. We would make sure we run them out of business. The economic impacts of their activities are too numerous to be enumerated.’ “The rice they are importing is killing the business of agriculture in this country. All the efforts of the Federal Government to diversify the economy are being sabotaged. “On the issue of the PMS, the government brings in PMS at a subsidized rate to the public, meanwhile some people are still taking out this PMS to neighboring countries. “You can now understand why nobody can comprehend the daily consumption rate being put out. It is obvious now that these products are being smuggled out of the country. So it my duty to make sure this is curtailed forthwith. They must desist. They have to go and look for legitimate businesses and do. That is the message to them, ” he said. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/three-cameroonians-others-arrested-for.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com The Nigeria Police Force and telecommunication companies have disclosed their readiness to establish a nationwide surveillance system, aimed at reducing cases of kidnapping and other crimes in the country. The system is expected to be connected to the existing Global System of Mobile (GSM) cell sites across the country. The Police revealed that all the telecommunication companies will provide cameras that will be installed on each telecoms masts across the country. This was disclosed by the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Mohammed Adamu at the Force headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday during a meeting with telecommunication stakeholders. The IG who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Godwin Nwobodo said the interventions will help curb the rate of kidnapping which he said has reached an alarming and embarrassing level. He said: “The advent of Global System of Mobile (GSM), communication in Nigeria brought about a lot of positive innovations including integrating the country into the globalized world. These positive trends came with attendant negatives such as the increase in crimes including an increase in armed robbery, transnational crimes, insurgency and kidnapping among others. “It is common knowledge that GSM communications enhance planning and coordination of these criminal activities. These crimes especially kidnapping has become so prevalent all over the country and has reached an alarming embarrassing level, necessitating urgent and drastic interventions.” On how the partnership will work, the IG said: “The intervention from the NPF and sister security agencies will necessitate partnering with telecommunications companies in deploying a nationwide surveillance system via the existing GSM cell site. “This will entail the provision of two surveillance Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras each by the telecoms companies on all telecom masts across the country. The camera is cost effective and has a great outdoor performance and is currently used in China and Dubai. The cameras with their Internet Protocol (IP) address will, in turn, be remotely connected to the nearest Divisional Police Stations, Area Commands, Command and Control center or server room at the police headquarters, Abuja. “The telecoms operators are mandated to provide at least 200 sim card per state to be used by the police body cam and vehicular system with unlimited data plan to support the project as part of their corporate social responsibility.” He also urged the telecommunication providers to give it access to a shortcode or emergency number ‘199’ or ‘999’. He said: “Before now, the defunct NITEL provided short code emergency number 199 that is routed to all police control rooms nationwide but when NITEL stopped functioning, this service became unavailable to the Force. “I wish to urge all stakeholders in the telecommunication service providers to help the Force in providing access to the shortcode or emergency number 199 or 999 that will be designated to the Force to be routed to all our control rooms nationwide. This will help us in serving you better and discharge our statutory function to the nation.” The Force also urged the stakeholders to assist it in the establishment of an ICT Centre and e-library that will enhance its capability. Also speaking, the chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Engr. Gbenga Adebayo while pledging the support of the stakeholders, urged the IG to direct his men to protect its infrastructure and not to be involved in tampering or preventing access to telecom sites by operating staffs. He also sought the support of the IG to arrest and persecute anyone that attempts to vandalize or close down its infrastructure. Other requests made by Adebayo include: “The IG should direct all police commands to kindly and strictly enforce taxation demands pursuant to court orders only as it was done before and enforce the security of telecoms infrastructure in volatile areas. “Telecoms infrastructure in police formations across the country should be free of charge as they also constitute and declare as the security infrastructure.” source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/04/police-partner-telecoms-companies-to.html

@titiloyeblog.com Twenty-six people have been feared killed and several others critically injured following a Boko Haram attack on a village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Our correspondent gathered on Tuesday that the insurgents, riding motorcycles, stormed the Kudakaya village in large numbers around 7pm on Monday. A local vigilante member said, “Many victims fell to the attack. I saw corpses of 26 people and there are several others that were critically injured and taken to hospital.” A former chairman of the Madagali LGA, Abawu Ularamu, supported the anonymous vigilante member’s account, and added, “They (Boko Haram) burnt several shops and many homes. They also stole food items. As I am talking to you now, we are living in an atmosphere of despair and agony for this attack. Over 20 people were killed while many were injured and rushed to the hospital.” He said the insurgents must have arrived the community from Sambisa, a forest in neighboring Borno State dreaded for being a hideout for Boko Haram despite its supposedly having been cleared of the insurgents by soldiers. ‘’There is no doubt the attackers came from Sambisa. We experience such periodic attacks from Boko Haram, who usually look for food. They are not far from us. Any slight opportunity, they may strike again,” he said. The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the attack. “Yes, I was briefed that members of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents have attacked the village.” Othman, however, could not confirm the casualty figure. He merely said, “I am yet to get the casualty figure but security operatives were deployed and are on the top of the situation.’’ Madagali has since just before the March/April elections been frequently attacked by Boko Haram. It shares the bad luck of being haunted by the insurgents with nearby Michika LGA. Together, they are the two LGAs in Adamawa State that has been attacked by Boko Haram a number of times in the last couple of months. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/04/boko-haram-invades-adamawa-village.html

@titiloyeblog.com A 34-year-old Nigerian, Samuel Nkennaya, has been killed while another Nigerian, Chinonso Nwudo is in critical condition in South Africa following mob attack. According to a statement released by the Secretary of Mpumalanga Province branch of the Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA), Victor Ayanfe-Oyebanjo, Nkennaya and Nwudo were attacked following accusations that both men kidnapped Chinonye, a six-year-old girl, who unknown to their attackers was Nwudo’s daughter. Ayanfe-Oyebanjo said trouble started when Nwudo took his six-year-old daughter, Chinonye, to visit Nkennaya at White River town in the evening of April 27. Later, Nwudo and Nkennaya proceeded to buy food for Nwudo’s daughter, Chinonye, at KFC restaurant in the area. Shortly after buying the food, some bystanders raised false alarm alleging that both men kidnapped the six-year-old girl. The community members immediately descended on them, beating them with different kinds of weapons. Nwudo began to shout that the girl was his daughter and pleaded that they speak to his South African wife to confirm his claim – which actually saved his life. The statement added that the police later intervened and called for backup to rescue the victims. Nkennaya died at the hospital on Sunday April 28th while Nwudo is in critical health condition. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/04/mob-kills-nigerian-man-wrongly-accused.html

@titiloyeblog.com The founder and leader of the Heaven’s Gate Ministry, Prophet Nicholas Osei is popularly known as Prophet Kumchacha has admitted he is a sex addict and can hardly live without indulging in the act even for a day. He believes it will amount to death if he decides to make such a resolution adding that he is a dreaded sex addict with several skills in bed which are known to his wife. “I have 35 styles, so you can’t be my wife and be saying you’re tired of having sex; no matter how tired you are, you must avail yourself to me anytime I want it”, he revealed.According to him, the sole duty of a wife is to satisfy the husband in bed and any woman who does the contrary is bound for hellfire. “But for sex, wives wouldn’t be necessary, because apart from sex, there’s nothing that I can’t do for myself or get my mother, sister or aunt to do for me”. He justified. He also indicated that God created women only to cook for men because men are not so good at cooking, which is the reason God gave that quality to women. Although he could not prove where in the bible God made women cook, he insisted that cooking is the calling of women. @titiloyeblog.com The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ruled out the adoption of electronic voting method in the country in the nearest future. An INEC National Commissioner, Professor Okey Ibeanu argued the country was not ripe for electronic voting because of the absence of “robust technical and physical infrastructure.” Prof Ibeanu noted that t there were key factors to be taken into consideration before e-voting could be adopted in the country, which he said, include stable power supply and the ability of electorate to conquer their “fundamental trust issues in the system”, by believing in the capability of the electoral body to function independently without external manipulations. “Each time we are demanding more ‘complexification’ of our election, we should remember that our infrastructure may not be adequate to take care of the process.”He spoke in Abuja on Monday at the “Stakeholders’ forum on future of elections in Nigeria, put together by the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (NCSSR), with the support of the British Department for International Development (DFID). INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, said the commission has embarked on a comprehensive review of processes and procedures it adopted for the 2019 general elections. Yakubu, who was represented by another National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, assured that INEC would, at the end of the review exercise, work with the National Assembly to propose an alteration of the constitution and legal framework on critical issues that posed challenges to the 2019 general elections. “The commission will also follow closely the pronouncement and judgments of the various courts and tribunals on novel constitutional and electoral issues, and incorporate them into its proposals for constitutional reforms.INEC said it would harp on high-level of professionalism for security agencies that would be deployed for future elections, stressing that issues relating to neutrality and conduct of security personnel deployed for election duties would be reviewed with a view to improving their ethical conduct. Responding to Prof Ibeanu’s submission, representatives of the Nigerian Army (NA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) argued the introduction of electronic voting system/e-collation was the only way to stop electoral violence and rigging of elections. Brigadier General Felix Omoigui, who represented the Army was of the view that electronic voting was the only way forward for subsequent elections. He said: “Situations where thugs abduct INEC officials at collation centers or en-route collation centres will be largely nipped in the bud. Furthermore, efforts should be made to ensure that all Wards, where elections will be held subsequently are provided with effective communication facilities to mitigate issues of the poor network that could mar the electronic voting. “We know that we have issues with this, but if we are able to work at it, it will go a long way to solving the problem. The other recommendation is the strengthening of the capacity of the Nigerian Police. We need to fully equip, arm and train the Nigerian Police to effectively provide the needed security at the polling units and collation centers. “This will not only dissuade the perpetrators of electoral violence but will also reposition the police to effectively combat other criminal acts. During the conduct of the last election, there was a particular polling booth where thugs were snatching boxes and there was only one policeman and he was not armed. He was just running all over the place, it was so disheartening”. Omoigui, who sought stiffer punishment for electoral offenders, noted that thuggery and violence during the last elections were promoted by “greedy and unscrupulous politicians who deploy all forms of tactics to win elections at all cost” “Strengthening the electoral laws and tribunals to prosecute and punish electoral thugs and their sponsors with a jail term of not less than four years until the next general elections, will deter the would-be perpetrators of violence”, he added. The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana was also of the view that electronic voting “will clearly put an end to the orgies of killings associated with thuggery before, during and after elections in Nigeria, as well as minimize the incidence of the rigging of elections in Nigeria.” source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/04/nigeria-not-ripe-for-electronic-voting.html

@titiloyeblog.com The Indonesian President has signed off on a plan to move the capital outside of the country’s most populous island. Officials have cited chronic pollution and congestion as key factors behind the decision. Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Monday approved plans to move the country’s capital from Jakarta to an unspecified new location. Ideas to move the capital have long been circulated by previous governments, but Widodo’s marks the first formal decision to relocate it off Indonesia’s most populous island, Jakarta. Planning Minister Brodjonegoro said: “This is a big job, impossible to take just one year, it could take 10 years.” President Widodo said: “We want to think in a visionary way for the progress of this country and moving the capital requires thorough and detailed preparation.” Jakarta, a city of 10 million people, suffers from chronic pollution, congestion, and contaminated resources. Some 30 million people live in the surrounding towns and villages, contributing to the city’s poor conditions. While authorities have yet to choose a site for the new capital, Brodjonegoro said it would require up to 40,000 hectares (99,000 acres). source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/04/indonesia-approves-plan-to-move-capital.html
