TV 2 expands with 3 Premier League HD-channels
August 14 2010 Norwegian TV 2 launches three Premier League HD-channels, that are dedicated to transmit the crème de la crème of Premier League football.
The tv-channel TV 2 Premier League HD will be transmitting Premier League football round the clock. The channel will be broadcasting live matches, British sport programmes, from Premier League’s own HD-channel, and material produced by TV 2 Sporten. Every weekend TV 2 will be present at every match courtside in England with commentators and reporters. So, you get to see all matches in HD all through the season.
The 3 channels are on Thor 0.8*W. According to Alsat, they get active on Spiderbox HD receiver from August 13. I implore forum members with spiderbox to try the following frequencies for signals:
TV 2 PL1 HD        10934V 24500
TV 2 PL2 HD                  " "
TV 2 PL3 HD        10841V 24500

George-D,
thanks.i thought as much when i tried the two modes usals/diseq on spiderbox and there was little or no difference in their operations.i am interested in the solar panels.let's get to talk when i visit naija.

all,
it seems the greed and bitter rivalry being experienced amongst pay-tv providers in naija has spread to the UK with SKY increasing the prices of their sports channels because BT was trying to make the channels affordable at lower prices to their customers via BT Vision. SKY decided to make everyone including their own customers suffer for it because of customer defection.wickedness in the name of business! this might push people into card-sharing which is far cheaper and illegal in Europe.BT might lose a lot from their projected profit from this deal as SKY owns the signal.it has sparked a bitter war between them.why would i pay about £35 monthly for sports when cs costs just £10 for almost all the packages on satellite?
Enigma could shed more light on the SKY/BT crisis pls.check the details here:

Enigma,
you are very right.i dont use a positioner.the movement comes automatically to any satellite you choose on the receiver.you can track a new satellite without the help of an installer as long as you know the degree! i scanned hellasat after the installer had left.he left it on motor/diseqc mode but i switched it to usals.though they worked the same way but what is the difference?i googled it but couldnt understand it.It was Max from Alsat that came for the installation.sorry that i did not update you.i had been busy with my phd apg interview which i passed last wednesday.i have not had time to enjoy the thing sef.i enjoyed world cup matches on hd there anyway.i have all the major european satellites on it.i also experimented with cccam c lines.it was very successful.pls holla me whenever you are free.

George_D,
thanks.i remember when you informed the house of the positioner about 2 years ago.it is good for bigger dishes.any news about the eagle?

olason,
still waiting to hear from you.

enitan,

all,
I am happy to join the league of hd tv.i got a motorised 85cm + spiderbox 7000hd last week with 11 satellite positions.i watched some hd channels and i just cant adjust to watching sd tv again.the difference is too much.the motorised system is so easy.all you need is press the satellite you want to watch and it goes there automatically.unlike what i had in naija where you have to use a separate motoriser.thanks to badaru who showed me the way!
you can see the magic at spiderbox.tv
i have access to so many hd and sd stations.all the football leagues are guaranteed too with fantastic softcam and technical support at spiderbox.tv/forum.
but you will need a nice internet connection.the box is cheap at £160-£170.

olason,
is it true voxafrica is on star cable tv?pls get in touch.

badaru/all,
i have made up my mind to join the HD craze with the almost 3000 premium stations Spiderbox opens on Hotbird.I dont need SKY here in the UK.I just discovered that Multichoice is a part-owner of Nova Greece.I got the info on wikipedia.NovaSport1-7 channels are clones of SuperSports 1-7.Nova is a duplication of Dstv in Europe.I also have all the AlJazeera and Art stations to explore! HD tv here I come ooooooo.

Is CTL  still on satellite in Nigeria?
I am visiting voxafrica studio(sirius 4) in Southwest London on Wednesday evening.i will gist you on their operations and something about to unravel!

The following article was culled from nigeria's daily independent-
Multichoice: This Is Business By Ambush
Sam Akpe

Multichoice, the mother company to DSTV, is an African creation meant to relay cable television transmissions across the world to the African continent. Since it started operations a few years ago, DSTV has brought the world in beautiful colours to the living rooms of many Nigerians. It has become an instant theatre and a sport hall. With just a finger on the right button, the world opens like a window before your eyes. Political and business discussions are conducted as though you were in a conference. You don’t only watch events; you participate.

The fact that Nigeria is the largest consumer market in Africa is not lost to the owners of DSTV. They have simply invaded the country. And the response from information-hungry Nigerians has been overwhelming. Within a short time, the company has gained a commanding audience. Every day, the operators smile to the bank while the subscribers wait for the next increase in subscription fees. I have always been thrilled by the appetite of many Nigerians to pay any amount for any service that works. The same people who refused to pay their telephone bills some years back are today subscribing to all the GSM networks operating in the country. At least, they can make calls and sometimes get through. For DSTV, no matter what they charge, no matter the arbitrary increase in their subscription rate, they have filled a gap by offering us a view of the outside world.

However, Nigerians now have alternatives to DSTV. The alternatives have come to fill an over-exploited gap. The era of monopoly is gradually coming to an end. What baffles me is that DSTV owners do not seem to be aware of  this. They still treat their subscribers with contempt. I am not making a general statement. I’ll tell you my own story or that of the company I work for. The management of DSTV has decided to introduce what one angry man calls business by robbery. The company now arm-twists customers to pay for what they did not buy.

When I resumed from vacation in April 2009, I noticed that our DSTV subscription had expired. I quickly made arrangements for renewal. Early this year, we decided to move our office and I had to delay further renewal of subscription until we completed the movement which was done in phases. Finally on March 26, I sent someone to DSTV office to renew the subscription. An hour later, I received a call that my attention was needed. I went over. A young man at the counter looked at me with icy contempt—the type reserved for someone hungry for fresh fish pepper soup when he could hardly afford kanda. I deliberately shifted the conversation beyond the borders of pidgin English. That unsettled him. He said my company was indebted to DSTV. That was strange because by tradition, DSTV will not allow you enjoy its services beyond one minute of what you paid for. You would be rudely cut off.

The brusque young man simply abandoned me to my reasoning. I had to force his attention back. In the end, I demanded to see the manager. She was nice but helpless. The story was that at the end of our February subscription in 2009, either someone within the house did not cut us off or that the system was not programmed to block service provision to our advantage; so they had gone ahead to beam their signals until the end of March. And that having enjoyed a service we did not ask for it, my company must pay for it.

I demanded to know a few things: if her story was true, how come it took them one full year to demand for payment? No answer. Is it traditional for DSTV to provide service to subscribers when payment has not been made? No! Was the provision of such service based on internal error? Yes! Is it therefore proper to shift the punishment for such an error to a customer? No! Is it morally proper for my company to be punished for the offence it did not commit? No! If a GSM network allows you to make calls beyond the amount you loaded your phone with (in pay-as-you-go-service) and later sent you an unexpected bill, will you pay? No!

I told them that I felt unfairly treated. The manager said I could go ahead and pay for fresh service while the other matter was being sorted out internally. The payment of N10, 800, was made while we returned to the office. Almost an hour later, we were not connected. I sent my assistant back to DSTV office. A rude shock awaited us as he was informed that the money we paid was used to write off the scandalous “debt.” And that if we were interested in enjoying their service, we should make another payment. He said the order to seize our money came from “above.”

That order was not from God. It came from a certain over-paid, arrogant individual who believes in business by ambush. True, N10, 800 is a small amount, not deserving much attention, but you never can tell how many Nigerians have suffered this kind of robbery from DSTV. Let it be known to DSTV that I personally feel robbed because I cannot tell my company to pay for a service it did not solicit. That means I am the victim.

My demand: I want my money back. To render a service I did not solicit without sending me a bill, only to lay ambush for me, is morally and legally wrong.

HITV partners ART
PAY TV company, HiTV, in recent times has been breaking new grounds and the most recent of them is its partnership with the Arab Media Corporation.
The 30 million dollar deal that was concluded recently in Beruit, Lebanon, between Hi Media's Group Managing Director, Mr. Toyin Subair and the Middle Eastern company will include a stake in HiTV via its recently opened 100 million dollar private placement, a Set Top Box financing arrangement and a technical support agreement.
Subair, in a statement, said the deal would enable HiTV grow its subscriber base to over 600, 000 before the beginning of the new football season. The Pay TV company recently became the 100 per cent exclusive broadcaster of both the Barclays Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
“HiTV will on the back of the deal begin transmitting in MPEG 4, thereby allowing it to increase its channels from 30 to 50 channels. This is part of our goal aimed at delivering world class entertainment to Nigerians at an affordable price,” he said.
The Arab Media Corporation which owns the Arab Radio and Television network (ART) has operations in the Middle East, Europe and North America. ART produces over 6,000 live and recorded shows every year including family oriented dramas, series, programmes, music videos and documentaries.
The company launched two satellite channels from Jordan in the second half of last year and also recently sold its sport channels to Al Jazeera.

all,
on the issue of hiding etv's test tx.,it is laughable.we should stop building mountains out of molehill.they are aware that it is free so why hide it from people.the info will soon flood all the satellite fora on the internet especially the middle east.it is not wrong to post feed and fta frequencies.enough of all these secrecy.i remember that in 2003/2004,DSTV left MM and Supersport3 open on cable MMDS transmission for almost two years before they stopped mmds tx.the heavens did not fall!thanks to enigma for shedding more light on it.i dont think we can ignore etv for anything though they could be annoying.i enjoyed all their shows.
you can watch orbit showtime 2 on sopcast.com but the signal is not too good even here in the uk!

CTL, HiTV dispute: NBC, NCC accused of bias

By Ibanga Isine, Port Harcourt, Published: Thursday, 25 Feb 2010

The Communications Trends Limited on Wednesday accused the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission and the Nigeria Copyright Commission of bias in its case with HiTV.

Both cable TV companies are embrolied in a battle over broadcasting rights and the regulators recently suspended CTC’s licence for alledged piracy.

The Head, News and Current Affairs, CTC, Ms. Eucheria Onegbu, said in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday that the cable sub-sector of the pay television industry was being threatened by attempts by some operators to establish a monopoly.

While CTL challenged the perceived monopolistic tendencies of HiTV at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, she said that the NBC and NCC raided the firm without recourse to the law.

She said the court in suit number: FHC/L/CS/866/2009, had made an order restraining HiTV from taking any action pending the determination of the substantive suit before it.

But just as the court order was being published, she said the NBC suspended of CTL’s licence.

She said, “Despite an existing court case in which the NBC and HiTV are parties, the commission went on the air to announce that CTL’s licence has been suspended.”

Attempts by our correspondent to speak with the NCC‘s Director General, Mr. Adebambo Adewopo, were unsucessful as he would not take calls on his mobile phone nor reply to text messages sent to him as at 6.30pm on Wednesday.

“On its part, the NCC sponsored publications on print and electronic media as well as transmit to embassies that the CTL’s chief executive officer and consultants have been declared wanted.”

Onegbu insisted that the action of the two regulatory bodies were targeted at smearing the reputation of CTL and its key operators.

Continuing, she said, “Nigerians should ask why the story from the NBC and that of the NCC appeared in the same article in one of the national dailies on February 18.

“Obviously, they were written by the same person or persons acting together. CTL has a duty to employ every lawful means to protect its business.

“We are at a point in our nation’s development where our systems are being cleansed of arbitrariness and abuse of office.

“The CTL has been in the forefront of fighting piracy in Nigeria and the only way to stop it is to make content available on fair terms to other operators.”

Now, she said CTL has instituted cases against the arbitrariness of HiTV and the regulatory agencies in Rivers, Lagos , Edo, Imo, Enugu and Delta states.

Comments :
Hitv is an expression of the cabal taking nigeria into capttive. Why seeking to monopolise the airwaves. May the wind of God blow away every cabal politically, spiritually, economically and academically. Let Hitv and co change their stlye or they will soon become a desolate organisation.

HiTV came on board complaining about DSTV and ended up doing the same thing. As for NBC and NCC, they are the same agencies that are always waiting to be told what to do by the highest bidder. The hungry people in these agencies will always dance to the tune played by the piper who has paid them. Why can''t things be done following the rule of law? Why can''t HiTV institute legal actions agianst CTL and let the courts decide on the issues?

MONOPOLY HAS NEVER BEEN GOOD FOR NIGERIA. OPEN MARKET IS BEST. HITV IS EXPLOITING NIGERIANS because OF PREMIERSHIP MONOPOLY. IN OTHER ADVANCE COUNTRY, IS IT JUST ONE SATTELLITE COMPANY DAT SHOW FOOTBALL.

martinosi,
i totally disagree with you on the tda stuff.for your information,TDA sends me all their newsletters.HSMP is as terrible as student visa nowadays.things are really hard except you add security job to whatever you are doing.it is the only thing whites can not compete in.but east europeans and asians are already getting it saturated. All your talk about being in the system is suspect.I know what happens here.I am on my PhD here, and also have friends everywhere.the greatest problem about migration is ignorance and false information.if you were right about your teaching stuff,my elder brother would have been here.he has a solid teaching degree from naija.please stop misleading people.please read my post on page 5.
i wont add to this forum again.infact, this is my last time of coming here so dont bother to abuse or praise me.it is getting populated by people who have given Nigeria a bad name all over Europe.London is not swarming with gold!you sweat for every penny in the UK except you go into crime.Cheers.

justwise/funkybaby,
thanks for a good job.i think you have said enough.the dog that will be lost in the forest will not hear the hunter's whistle.

poster,
it is a simple issue.tell your friend to come to the uk and overstay.he will regret ever doing it.why didnt all those encouraging him forward their contact details to him?these days,it is getting very hard for all immigrants without 'indefinite leave to remain' status.the highest grade of legal migrants are the people on the old HSMP.i have so many friends on it.they are expected to make over £30000 annually before they can apply for stay.it is impossible for a lot of Britons to make that much.how do u make it as an immigrant.the home office is trying to tell us all to go back home even when you can contribute a lot to their economy.ignorance is damaging so many lives in the uk.besides, naijas destroy each other a lot.immigration will never accost you if there is no info on you from people who know your status.all they need is your date of birth.besides,if they catch you,you will be in detention before being thrown back like a criminal.all avenues are becoming tougher.the only way for your friend is to come for his postgraduate and probably get married to a Briton/EU citizen.but it is very risky.the girl could get greedy and start to blackmail him.he has to be under her bondage for two years if she is briton.if she is eu,it is 5years before you can get your papers approved by the home office. In his situation,he should just invest in something good with his money.Listen to justwise and funkybaby.I appreciate Redman44's comments too but things have changed.Nigerians always spoil any little chance to get to exploit loopholes.Redman was right about the situation but events have overtaken his postulations.

Redman44,
did you realise it was because of the indians and bangladeshi the home office changed the student visa requirements?do you think they dont know all these loopholes?there are so many asians in the police and immigration.have you heard the story of a naija illegal immigrant who was visited by the immigration.he was telling his brother to hide his fake papers.he spoke pure Yoruba.one of the black officers replied him in Yoruba that it was that fake paper they came for! they arrested him promptly.
Things have changed a lot in the UK.If It is getting really hot for students.what chance has an overstayer?I am sure you will send the guy out after one week of harbouring him.that is what naijas do after painting a good picture of UK for their relatives and friends! a lot of naija professionals here are into security and other things that can bring in money.banking does not pay well in the UK.one needs to do his assignments before jetting out.Britons are also complaining.the jobs are not readily available! and I wouldnt suggest crime at all.these talks about going round the tight rules are not meant for an omoluabi from a good home.it is degrading doing all sorts of things to stay back in Europe.
But my question is-why dont you hear about the Hausa students thinking of staying back in Europe?Yorubas and Ibos are the people you see in the UK.the answer to my question is simple.they have jobs waiting for them after their study here.this is one thing that is dividing naija!I rest my case.

Enigma,
thanks for drawing my attention to the potential libel.i have edited the names just because of the respect i have for the great commentator, and not legal reasons.i got the info from a very reliable source when i was in naija.if you have any top multichoice manager friend, pls call him and ask about this.he will tell you the full story.i learnt multichoice protested to Sky but they had no evidence.besides,it was too late! it is just common sense-how did hitv know the amount dstv was bidding at if there was no leakage from the epl sellers.I like the spice this topic has added to the forum.it reminded me of the 3rd world war between Enitan and I.Unfortunately,he avoided me stylishly till I left naija even when I tried to lure him with fishes to LTV studios.I would have loved to meet my Saddam Hussein of the fta forum!I miss him no be small.

olofofo,
hitv was simply foolish and suicidal.i can liken their action to this scenario-it is like Yobe State Television outbidding NTA/AIT for the world cup transmission right! I had always wanted to mention this issue here but held back due to the prospect of libel or harm as mentioned by Enigma and Enitan.I know the extent the pay tv cabal can go to destroy any barrier.
In as much as I totally condemn piracy from CTL and others,Hitv should not make the mistake of instigating the govt to start banning big dishes and decoders.I see that as their next line of action.I remember when DSTV started,a lot of tv stations were hooking up to them for movies, music and football.i remember they sued OGTV,B.C.O.S.ibadan,and Delta DBS up to 10 times before they stopped the illegality. It was so bad then that  the last two stations would just take the local news and hook permanently to Supersports, channel O,and movie magic all through the weekend.the Lagos stations could not join in the illegality then because Multichoice would know immediately. This is one of the reasons laws dont work in Nigeria.govt stations did what CTL did!
I am waiting for the day HITV will start attacking us -owners of big dishes and fta decoders.oku a sun(dem go carry deadi bodi tire)!
I want all my silent ogas to comment on this issue-mide,twinstaiye,adewest,jujukemist,bigjoe,dejsam,gofitec,ifende,ekoonibaje,f-marshall,bodejohn,vickoy,etc.

Butoneday,
pls watch out for them oooo.your monster is a threat to the pay tv cabals.
