mctfopt: Not a financial advisor though (take whatever I say with a pinch of salt and a bottle of tequila ), but you can start researching into the stock market. A great way to earn the $ while in Naija. Check out fintech startups like Trove, Bamboo, Trading 212 (got in before they banned Naija ) et al (they've got threads here in NL and telegram). And consider investing in foreign stocks such as Google, FB and others. Of course you gotta do your due diligence and only use money you can afford to lose
Once made a killing in çr̃ypto years ago. But very risky plays. If you are an artist (digital or otherwise) consider checking out NFTs. My 2 kobo Nice one... I personally have downloaded trove and bamboo but yet to activate my acct. Like you said FX, crypto and stocks can be very dicey. I hope others too drop some hints too. Thanks boss |

NiyiOmoIyunade: Or just use a USD card that has no limits - easy if you earn US income or are happy to buy Fx at blackmarket rates to fund the card.
If you are a typical naija guyman who wishes to purchase at ~NGN415/USD using GTB and other 'sane' banks, then get yourself a GTB naira master card and visa card, then get a virtual card and utility card all on the GTB platform - that gives you access to $400 online spend per person per month.
Co-opt the official Madam, Mistress, siblings, friends and other trusted folks into the scheme and you can easily do $2000 or more per month per sane bank.
Notice I said sane bank - GTB has never charged me above NGN420/USD. Providus Bank charges me $494/USD to use their card Talking about earning, i have always wanted to appeal to the ogas in the house, apart from sharing RE knowledge biko share money earning tips too. Some of us have great ideas and dreams about RE, but lack the cash. Any ideas to help a brother pocket some nairas won't be out of place. I hope I am speaking the mind of we micro solar users here sha. Peace. |

NiyiOmoIyunade: You are essentially trying to simulate ESS like behaviour with cheaper DIY components.
ESS comes natively bundled with Victron and other solid inverters once you buy the required GX control.
You may get finer control of your system if you incorporate HomeAssistant as @Ojeysky and @Adrusa are doing.
Someone on this thread read your post and challenged me to implement a good ESS with a basic inverter and sensors so now I am in trouble
I will still reach out to my Ogas Ojeysky and Adrusa for some insights.
My current struggle is an optimal powersharing algorithm e.g in a Victron ESS, if the loads called for 5kw while solar can only give 4.5kw, ESS would smoothly source the extra 500w from grid and drop grid use once loads drop or solar increases to catchup. If I try to DIY this behaviour, I can only turn on grid to assist and grid will override PV production to provide the needed 5kw directly from grid! The inverter is essentially pass through once grid is in use. Clearly this is not optimal as 4.5kw of PV is available for use - PHCN bills will be higher than they need to be and solar production will be wasted in this DIY solution.
I probed further and can see clearly that the native ESS in a Victron for example works so well because the internals can sync with the grid and combine power from AC (grid or gen) and DC (solar and battery) to feed a load. The ESS can take just the exact amount of extra energy needed from grid and therefore maximise PV usage and minimise energy bills. This is indeed the engineering miracle that justifies the price tag.
Still I have to cook up something acceptable with DIY parts as I was commissioned to do. Ahh this is sweet... Pls let mw know how it ends. |

olopan: Easy fix
Loosen the back of the fan and located the moving parts, get a good oil that won't evaporate on heating of the coils and carefully apply it on them.
Couple back gently and power it up.
You should be back enjoying that cool breeze

netotse: Hi Guys,
Does anyone know where I can find a 48VDC contactor in lagos? I'm look for a cheap way to maximize/prioritize my solar use and want to use a relay-contactor combo.
I will set an under voltage relay to close when battery voltage is, at say, 50V and supply the coils of the contactor which will then close and supply AC to charge the batteries through the inverter, so as long as voltage is above 50V, relay(and therefore contactor) should be open and you are using the panels to power your house. This should mean that you don't need to be manually switching of AC power supply to maximise solar.
The relay is easy to find but the 48 VDC coil contactor is what I have been looking for, does anyone here know how I can find one?
I'm also open to suggestions on easier ways to achieve this.
BR Would this beefy relay work? Might simplify your design a lot more. https://www.nairaland.com/390522/solar-energy-complement-fta/492#74517252 |

omotoda: The max PV WATTS of panel is 1440watts.I don't think the present set up can cope with my night demand as I do not like to discharge my batteries beyond 50%.Adding additional 2 units of 260watss will only ensue my battery is charged fully and in shirt time.Even if the batteries are fully charged till 6pm,it can't take me overnight without going beyong my 50% DOD Idk if this is still relevant, but are your night loads all energy efficient? If you can replace non energy efficient gadgets with energy efficient ones, it will really help. I am running two sets of used100ahr/12v & a 150ahr all parallel system. Bought different times from different sellers. My charging isn't very optimized but my load on them is so light that the batteries are still going strong 2yrs+ Note that during the dayi am not at home so daytime load is zero. |

odimbannamdi: My sincere empathies, bro.
But you didnt mention the battery brand, so that we can provide more informed responses.
Also, do you have an independent voltmeter connected to the battery with which you monitor the voltage of the battery at full capacity and after usage, just like the type in the pic below? I have realized that most the battery voltage indicated on inverters are usually higher than actual, hence the need for an independent one to get a more accurate reading.
Let us just be hopeful that your battery may be suffering from gross under-charging and it is not dead yet... baddest engineer... |

earthrealm: Shezen basen. 550 is inclusive or clearing, yeah, its a bit high, but with the added alibaba protection of shipping, thats why am considering it.
All these naija china shippers, if anything happens to your cargo.. OYO, nuthing for you. Last month over 350 containers fell into the north sea ... During to a terrific storm that blew them off 2 ships, 1 week apart. Am sure if it was nigeria bound cargo.. compensation might not be paid to small importer s like us with 1 or 2 cbm. All the trusted alibaba lifepo4 s3llers i know/contacted dont ship to nigeria directly
Yeah, have researched throughly, the lishen is as good as Eve.
My major headache is the exchange rate, i would have considered going solo and buying up the 64 cells to resell at hansome profit , but what if dollar crashes back to 360 from the present 475? In april or may when the cells arrive, my profit wont be so hansome again..considering the huge funds tied down
Then lifepo4 cell prices are projected to go up afyer the CNY holidays, Eve major sellers has even released official statement that new model eve cells will be sold for 110usd early this yr We back to this grp buy thingy.. ... Anyway, to those not very experienced they need to know that these cells are not drop in replacement for sla batteries. You need to balance them and then connect a bms oh. That said, I eant to suggest if we can pay via paypal, because i think exchange for paypal may not be as expensive as normal USD. I might be wrong. |

dejidotun2000: Good day house.
I have a brand new Fangpusun 100/50 D controller ordered from that refused to work out of the box.
It recognises and displays battery voltage and PV input voltage but just refuses to charge. Rather than indicate bulk, absorption or float, it displays "Off" implying that there is no PV input yet, it accurately displays the PV input.
I have a feeling it something is wrong with the firmware.
Can anyone here fix it or knows someone who can fix it ?
Thanks. They honor warranty. Send them a message. Where did you order from? |

ojeysky: If the highlighted make the list then I think MPP should make it as well. earthrealm: With what i know now, For such setups, i would go for hybrids and parallel them. 4 units of 5.5kw Deye/sorotec/phocos inverters paralleled would get the job done nicely and efficiently.
Note a 5.5kw sorotec can handle 5000watts panel, at 450v 6s2p strings of 350watts panel per inverter ojeysky: Considering the warranty on Deye and it's features, it strikes me as premium so you may look into that Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. |
