Hseffa: ................................................................................ Remarkably, all cities cited by you are coincidentally their country's respective national capital cities! Tokyo- Japan's seat of government; New Delhi- India's national capital city; Shanghai- China's 3rd largest regional capital city;
Since IBB relocated Nigeria's national capital city to F.C.T, Abuja; saddle of responsibilities rested on the State Government.
Knowingly, no State is richer than the Federal Government, in Nigeria.
Part of Lagos, captured above, depicts FEDERAL ADMINISTRATIVE ZONE OF LAGOS. Which is the Victoria Island Bridge!
Nevertheless, Lagos, is still the unrivalled 5th largest economy of Africa.
Once-upon-a time, on this Nairaland, a 90s' generation kid, juxtaposed Onitsha town, as more sophisticated than LAGOS!!!
Whatever, from professional view, I think Nigeria's capital relocation to Abuja, did stemmed city growth & planning of Lagos State.
God bless you.
NOTE:
Lagos Island was the administrative capital of Nigeria from 1914 to 1991 NOT Lagos State which General Gowon created (among 12 new states) for the indigenes on May 27, 1967.
JohnPortar: Your picture of "modern" Lagos isn't exactly recent. That picture is at least 15 years old.
Like someone said, come out and state your real agenda.
Well said! That second pic is of the old Oshodi traffic gridlock many years back before the cerebral Gov. Raji Fasola cleared the traffic and beautified that part of Oshodi with flowers and hedges.
The OP is very mischievious and ignorant about today's Lagos otherwise the boy would not have used that very old picture.
Munamoqel: With the high level of prostitution, runs hookup, how do guys cope when getting married to avoid marrying a run girl. Some sites have increased the tempo of transactional sex by ladies. This has increased the probability of marrying a woman that has slept with hundreds of men.
MikoB: It's only intelligent people that understand that what is constant in life is change, I like your submission, we argued over this last week, I told you my own view, I like tinubu but he is not my first or second choice, I can only go for tinubu if osinbajo and fashola are out, moreover the little sympathy I have for asiwaju is because of the character assassination by some people on his personality for no reason, but as it is tinubu should just take it easy and support one of his guys before it is too late, by doing that he will still command the respect he deserves, its obvious he is having a running battle with his health. Asiwaju! So many people love you, but sometimes life can be mean, count your gain and move on, as it is the situation for now favours the VP, I can't say of tomorrow though
Well said! My thinking exactly resonates with yours.
You're welcome... I enjoyed your posts on this thread because you spoke the truth! Coincidentally I attended the FGC (in the 1980s) in the same state you said you were born. I was based in Lagos but schooled in the North and I'm glad I did.
Some of AIhaji Isiaku Rabiu's children attended that college with me and even drove Porches and other exotic cars to school and this was back in the 1980s... These were the younger brothers of Abdulsamad Isiaku-Rabiu who is the Forbes-listed dollar billionaire on this thread. These Northern guys have "bad a$$" money got from trading right from time.
BestRicePlug28: I don't know the man that lied to you that the north is the poverty capital of Nigeria, don't let the presence of almajeris decieve you. These guys are rich in dollars, go to their banks in the morning and understand what i mean.
A small boy of less than 20 years has a farm which has over 20million naira output for him per season and if he farms two season that's over N40million
You'll notice he doesn't speak English well yes, he looks like his last card is N100 yes! But look for his trouble and u will know who's trouble it is u just bought.
In fact in the north, u can be with a billionaire inside Keke you won't know, He'll great you normally and sit like u are an almighty to Him. Until the Keke stops at the carwash he packed his G-wagon Yes u heard me! (This is very common in Kano)
If not for kidnapping and this religious crisis. The north is the best place to be in Nigeria,
Life is simple, food is affordable and then better opportunities to venture into.
The igbos claim to marry wives for 4million in Imo according to a nairalander here some days ago. A hausa bride gets almost 10,000,000 to shop for her wedding alone in Kano. These guys just don't brag. They are stinky Rich!!
CSTRR: A lot of Igbo men are rich, but sorry, they are not rich as this.
Most are naira billionaires, or dollar millionaires.
The only Igbos closest to dollar billionaires are Jim ovia and Tony elumelu.
That is if it is agreed that they are igbos.
Anioma people in Delta North are descended from mainly Bini, Igala, Yoruba, Esan and Nri origins.
Jim Ovia is Ika by ethnicity from Agbor and his family lineage is of Edo descent. Ovia is God of iron in Edo language.
Tony Elumelu identifies as Ibo. His mother and wife are from Onicha Ugbo and Onicha Olona - both with mixed ethnic origins in their various quarters in Aniocha North though.
Whobedatte: This guy truck na em spoil singer market road for Kano . See trucks dey offload on daily basis like rain . Aboki get money ooo . Alli Balarabe Mazaf Sabo Dankoli Hamisu Rabiu Umar Buba Tukur sabaru These guys are the biggest key distributors in the north and arguably in Nigeria
Geeman2006: Good to know you have worked with the Big wholesalers in that market. No be lie. Those guys run things.. Their money is very loud, but low-key lifestyle. You forgot to add Dan gongola, Sufaye , Shehu Jos, Alh Barau..
waploger: If you live in Lagos and you ply through Mile2-Okoko regularly, read through this info!
This is Alakija bridge (coming from mile2).
The top of this bridge has now become a robbery point for aboki bike riders (NOT ALL OF THEM) .
This is the trick... Ones you board their bike from mile2 or wherever mainly at night. They will pretend as if they want to take the normal lane(green mark) and on approaching the demarcation between the ground lane and the bridge, they will swerve on to the bridge where their other gang members are standing waiting for victims. So they will immediately descend on you with different types of weapons and dispossess you of all your valuables.
How do I know.. 1.They robbed my neighbor of his phone and other valuables December 15th and January 12th.
2. A friend also told me about his experience but he was lucky enough to have jumped off the bike without being injured.
3. We have heard different stories from victims.
Be vigilant folks.
This is a police issue that you guys in that area should report to the Lagos Commissioner of Police for prompt action.
PressMyButton: Lagos is naturally a prosperity status. It is not because of its resources but very largely as a result of the spirit of enterprise and hospitality of the dominant tribe that peopled it. And which was why the British had to pass over other states to make it a Capital city. There are other states with seaports, natural resources and shared border with neighbouring countries yet were not economically appealing enough to the British, hence the relocation of the Capital city from Calabar to Lagos.
Governor Wike challenged the FG over VAT, Governor Akeredolu is making a good use of his office to modify structural changes into a new constitution. He has also taken up the task to provide a sea port in his state which he complained was being delayed by FG's approval. These are proactive measures some forward thinking leaders are taking in their respective states to change the status quo. But has any Governor in your region done to challenge the present setting? Since you were born, the only thing your leaders told you was that Lagos is holding back your destiny as if your destiny has been poured into a bottle and buried in Lagos. You complain about Lagos and heap all blames on Lagos while neglecting your leaders who are sharing your destiny like kerosene and stealing them in a Pandora account abroad. I ask again, what has any of your Governors or Lawmakers in Abuja done to challenge the FG or change the status quo in the Constitution?
The capital of Nigeria from 1914 to 1991 was Lagos Island NOT Lagos State, which was one of 12 new states created for the indigenes on May 27, 1967.
FreeStuffsNG: Sir, Lagos has always led the struggle for true federalism and it costs us a lot. One case in point was the creation of LCDAS which was championed by Lagos, when the chips were down we were abandoned by other states like Delta, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa that quickly cancelled their LCDAs and our LG allocations were siezed. Another one was when we built our own independent power system, FG insisted that the power must be channelled through the central grid and shared all over the federation. How about resource control championed by Asiwaju, it was that fight that further helped in the 13% resource allocation we have today. Lagos has free education and health and never discriminate against indigenes of other states. If you go to our public schools now, a lot of indigenes of other states outside our Odua states are there.
Lagos has been fighting for others but when it comes to reward Lagos, bigoted tribesmen bring tribalism into it . We have been appealing for special status because of the huge burden we carry yet others Lagos is supporting will oppose it in the NA.
Right now,Lagos is facing her priorities and has joined its kith and kin in Odua States to form the DAWN strategy and we hope that when other states outside the SW are ready, we will join them.
Lagos was fighting for the rest of Nigeria that it even forgot to be part of the owner states of Odua Investment Group until about 5 years ago!
Such new thinking has helped Lagos move faster like quickly joining Odua group, leveraging on partnerships like the Lake rice with Kebbi State that birthed the about to be commissioned Largest Rice mill in West Africa in Imota https://www.nairaland.com/5894568/lagos-state-largest-rice-mill
We were able to develop the Lekki Seaport in conjunction with the Tolaram group, award land to Dangote to build his refinery, build our own rail system, build our own database system, have a robust public health response system that helped protect Lagosians first against ebola and covid-19 when brought into the country.
Lagos next phase is to build its own fibre optic system for a smart city. We aint waiting on the rest of the states outside SW again. It slowed us down for too long sir.
If they need us, they should vote for Asiwaju Tinubu and we will teach them how governance runs.
Mooh247: Well North is given it to South.... SouthWest in particular
Ibos are just one out of 6 geopolitical zones and one out if 300 ethnic groups, they have the lowest PVC and least active voters of all region
If Ibos want consensus of the South let them tell SouthWest when they ever supported a Yoruba candidate to get supported back by SouthWest
Nnamdi Azikwe favoured Sarduna over Awolowo even when Awolowo won majority seat
You voted for Tofa because of Sylvester Ugoh in 1993 against Abiola
Alex Ekweume contested and loss against Obasanjo that fought and went to prison for Democracy while Ibos were hobnobing with Abacha
2003 while everyone stepped down for Obasanjo's 2nd term.. Rochas and Orji contested PDP primaries, Chuba Okadigbo and Ojuckwu formed alliance with Buhari in ANPP to tackle Obasanjo
1999 Yorubas voted AD, 2003 PDP, 2007 AC (AD faction turned AC) 2011 ACN 2015 APC (ACN merged with CPC) 2019 APC So by default Yorubas should get rewarded with APC Presidential ticket
... Make the President accountable to the youth agenda
The first-of-its-kind significant bold step towards galvanising Nigerian youths to vie for and assume political positions in 2023 got underway on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, with the staging of a mass youth rally tagged the ‘South West Progressive Youth Festival.’
The festival, organised by the All Progressives Congress National Youth Lobby Committee under the auspices of the Office of the APC National Youth Leader, Hon. Ismaeel Ahmed, held at the Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, and brought together about than 30,000 young people from the six South West and Kwara States to press their demands and galvanize more young people to contest for political offices starting from the party convention and the 2023 general elections.
Among the notable youth leaders and influencers that addressed the rally were the APC National Youth Leader, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Abiola-Peller, Kabir Aregbesola, Hon Seyi Adisa, Hon. IQ Babatunde, Aderinsola Abiola, Afiz Repete, and renowned marketing communications and governorship Abisoye Fagade.
Speaking at the rally, Barrister Ahmed, said The Progressive Youth Festival was one of the numerous initiatives being organised to strategically advocate consideration for young people and placing them in the political leadership of the country. He added that the initiative was aimed at driving a bolder effort to energise and empower young people to take ownership of their political future by contesting for leadership positions and organising more effectively for progressive reforms through a mainstream party.
‘‘The goal is to build a young people’s political movement that will produce the next president, set the agenda and hold him/her accountable for the benefit of the millions of young people that make the majority of our country,’’ ‘‘The hosting of this festival by the South West Progressive Youth is an initiative for championing a new type of politics for good governance, and to advocate for the needed level-playing ground for the younger generation to flourish and for Nigeria to achieve its true potential,’’ he said.
The group further revealed that their plan of action for success would include doing things differently by adopting innovative approach to their activities such as organisation, mobilisation, funding advocacy, training and problems-solving in particular development issues peculiar to Nigeria.
“We are ready to take our future in our own hands, set agenda for the next President, hold him accountable and produce the next president,” they affirmed. This is because the youth segment represents the over 50 per cent of Nigeria’s population and time was ripe for them to take up political leadership with a view to building a greater, brighter and prosperous future for the country.
Speaking on behalf of the media team, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola stressed that youths played vital roles in the sustenance of Nigeria’s nascent democracy and as such, must take leading positions in local and national politics.
He said, “The APC Youth Festival is the collective efforts of APC youths from the South West geo-political zone. Our conviction is that the time is now for the youths to take their rightful position in national politics and leadership. So, as youths we aim to use this opportunity to gather under one roof to network and develop a roadmap for youth inclusiveness ahead of the 2023 general elections. I urge Nigerians to support this noble cause by the youth.”
The festival hosted the zazzu crooner Portable, Airboy and the Fuji maestro Saheed Osupa amongst other celebrities and Nollywood stars.
Omihanifa: Media personality, Mo Abudu has finally reacted to allegations of sleeping with politicians in a bid to get to the top.
Recall that in September 2021, the EbonyLife TV CEO was accused of having back-to-back amorous relationships with Lagos State governors and other top politicians.
According to Gistlovers, it’s these men who paved the way for her tremendous successes.
However, Abudu didn’t react to the claim as at the time it was trending, rather she chose to reiterate her brilliance and ingenuity.
In a recent development, speaking with Chude Jideonwo, Mo Abudu claimed to be undisturbed about the rumours rather her major concern is among ladies who may believe these allegations.
She said:
“I listen to my mum a lot and she is wise. She says, leave them, no one knows how water gets in the coconut so I won’t waste my time thinking about what anyone said, those that know me know me and anyone saying trash doesn’t know me…people were calling me to find out if there is something serious happening and I’m like, you guys, I am very okay. Yes, it can be painful because of the young girls that look up to me. I don’t want the young girls to look up to me to think that this is what I have done and if they do I worry about that because how do you do the work we have done?….
We at Ebony life studios have over 30 international projects in development from Netflix to Will smith’s company, to Sony and some not announced yet, incredible projects. I get calls every day, about how the western world works when they find someone doing magic, your information spreads and they want to work with you and that is our mission to be global not just Nigerian and African vision. I am getting busy here so let them keep getting busy with their cook up stories.
Like the Hushpuppi story, many other brands bided for it on the international scene but we won it because I, Mo was involved….we are not justifying what he did but what we are saying is that it is a story that needs to be told cos there are many lessons both good or bad for the youths.”
Mo Abudu has to take massive legal action against those blogs and so-called media outlets that defamed her. She should NOT back down because the damage done to her image was way too much for my liking and just like Ashiwaju Tinubu and Ned Nwoko have done in the past, she should sue the living daylights out of those fools!
People have to be very careful about all the nonsense they read on those CRAPPY blogs.
Inflation will rise in the industrialised countries with the increase in the pump price of gasoline. Well this is what the cyclical commodity does. We roll...
deukpai: If Nigerians complaint that Igbo's are excesses. Don't you think other tribes are not doing enough to compete with them? If Igbo's were to be dominating in entertainment industry you people will still hate them for no reason. Now look at for years Yoruba are the one leading in entertainment industry and igbos are not worry.
Just to chip in to this interesting thread @deukpai
It's NOT about competing with Ibos like you stated. The perception has always been there for decades pre-and-post 1914 about the OVERBEARING attitude of some Ibos who want to be domineering or pushy in a plural ethnic society. Even abroad, some African countries complain about the behavior of some noisy Ibos. Look at the COR Movement or the Calabar, Ogoja, Rivers Movement that existed before 1960, and the call by non-Ibos [Ibibios, Efiks, Ijaws, Annangs, Ejegbam, Southern Cameroons, etc] for them to be separated from the Old Eastern region because of the overbearing attitude of Ibos who filled sensitive positions with their kinsmen.
Chinua Achebe himself in a rare moment of clarity stated in his last book before he passed on that "Igbos Are Noisy Exhibitionists & They Lack Humility And Quietness" - Achebe
“I will be the first to concede that the Igbo as a group is not without its flaws. Its success can and did carry deadly penalties: the dangers of hubris, overweening pride, and thoughtlessness, which invite envy and hatred or, even worse, than can obsess the mind with material success and dispose it to all kinds of crude showiness. There is no doubt at all that there is a strand in contemporary Igbo behavior that can offend by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness.” - Chinua Achebe
In any event, there are Ibos who have a great deal of emotional intelligence that I've met over the years and they work in harmony with others, but there are these group of uncouth Ibos who put other innocent Ibos into troubled waters through their very careless talk and this can be seen EVEN on Nairaland where some Ibo-speaking trolls have constituted themselves into a nuisance and have offended and fought with many ethnic groups online and offline.
Wherever they are, their first aim is how to dominate.
This is why they shouldn't be entrusted with power.
Check what Aguyi Ironsi did just few months he was a ruler.
Check those biafra soldiers court martial by Ojukwu during the civil war, non of them are Ndi Igbo.
Check what Azikwe tried to do in Southwest (by representing the region upon the numbers of literate mind among Yorubas) before Awolowo cornered his mischievous move
Check those killed and spare by Kaduna Nzegu and Owaboshi.
They're just pretending, give power to them and be a victim of their vengeance
Just a quick correction...
Emmanuel Ifeajuna [who was Nnamdi Azikiwe's nephew] was executed in Enugu on 25 September, 1967 alongside, Victor Banjo, Phillip Alale [an Ijaw officer] and Sam Agbam on trumped up charges... claiming they were saboteurs.
Even Nnamdi Azikiwe was close to tears in a 1983 documentary [that I saw when Shehu Shagari passed on] where he stated that Ojukwu was RESPONSIBLE for the death of 2 of his relatives during the 2 years 6months Nigerian Civil War and that former President Shehu Shagari should NOT have given Col. Emeka Ojukwu a national amnesty which led him to come back from exile and then joined the ruling NPN political party!
Olisa Agbakoba granted a 2006 interview to Punch in which he stated that a LOT of Onitsha indigenes including himself suffered in the hands of the rebel secessionists led by Emeka Ojukwu and many of them were thrown into prison or used as conscripted child [Olisa Akbakoba was a conscripted child soldier] and adult soldiers probably because of the role that Obi Asika' father played [Anthony Ukpabi Asika, was administrator of East Central State, of Nigeria during the Nigerian Civil War and the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon]. Point is that Ibo-speaking folks also suffered in the hands of Colonel Emeka Ojukwu and his cohorts.
lytech1: I once have this chronic mouth odour sometimes in the year 2019.
Really don't know if It work for me due to the fact I discovered it earlier or what I used was the real cure.
After my regular daily brushing of teeth,I chew a well rinched bitterleaf (five leave),make sure the leave touch every part of my mouth and then swallow.
The process continued on daily basis for like two weeks.
The odour disappear. Till date,I never experienced it
Laughnow419: I heared from a taxi driver Black soot has reduced in Port Harcourt but I can tell u all the Port Harcourt po fire people has come to oyigbo. Yesterday my nose were so so painful this early
morning I can feel it in my mouth. Pls guy below is how my nose looks like charcoal when I clean it with wipes. I wish this can be on frontpage so it might probably reach his excellency Governor Nyesom Wike. To take the same measure in
Eeeeew! This is so sickening. I once lived and worked in PH and I cannot just allow this shit to continue killing the beautiful people there.
To be honest, it is about time people ditched PH/Rivers State for the meantime and go for detoxification of some sort. DETOX is available in a place like Lagos... the Maryland area of Lagos. Prof. Oladapo Ashiru has a facility there and he is the specialist who delivered the first test-tube or In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) baby in Nigeria and Black Africa in the March 1989 collaboration with Prof. Osato Giwa-Osagie.
All the harmful metals from the oil and gas poisoning can be removed from the body otherwise men and women will find it DIFFICULT to give birth to normal babies.
Drones, ISR platforms and Airforce jet fighters can be sent in to spy on those criminals and vandals just like the Federal Government under PMB did on a massive level in Lagos, Ondo and Ogun States in 2016 in the aftermath of criminal Ijaw vandals killing and kidnapping residents of Lagos, Ondo and Ogun States. Joint military offensives carried out in Lagos and Ogun states by the Nigerian Army, Air Force and Navy left more than 100 militants dead.
This was what GEJs government could NOT do despite DSS reports that had been submited to his government. For doing that, PMBs Government did well especially after a first-class Oba of Lagos State [The Oniba of Ibaland/Iba Kingdom] was kidnapped via the water way close to his palace. Former Governor Akinwumi Ambode had to seek for the assistance of APC-led government of PMB and it worked! Wike cannot do this alone! Rotimi Amaechi too needs to step in and influence the FG to draft Airforce jets to blast those idiots killing people slowly with black soot from the idiotic incomplete combustion called oil refinening!
The massive Operation Awatse bombings by the Nigerian Airforce in 2016 against the Ijaw criminal elements in Lagos, Ogun and Ondo States is the same treatment the crazy crude oil vandals in Rivers State, and the Zamfara/Kaduna State criminals who are mainly foreigners will get from the gallant Nigerian Airforce using Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance [ISR] platforms.
