Publicity Stunt and like Nigeria; misplaced priority. They should combat the Taliban and other terrorist groups first and then reduce the high poverty level in Inda ( especially rural india) before the even think of venturing into the stratosphere. Imagine, india that has not been able to go to the moon is now attempting to go to mars which the most technological advanced country in the world - the USA had been battling for close to 40 years. And for what purpose? |
Come to mile 12 market in lagos, Go to the fruit market and discuss with the wholesalers. You can then arrange to suppy them. it is cash and carry basis. You can try other fruit markets also. You should have at least done your market research before you went into the business. |
Please fellow Nairalanders learn to stick to the subject of discussion, instead of throwing in unrelated issues. For example; This is a topic about the arrest of Dino Melaye. The question should be, why was he arrested? Had he broken any Nigerian law? Is due process being followed? This has nothing to do with the moral standing of Dino, nor the fact that he was a member of house of Assembly. It is not even about Stella Oduah, because the police had not come out to say he threatened stella oduah. It is about the arrest of a Nigerian citizen. If we do not ask questions now, no one would raise questions also when it is our turn. Remember the story of the " When they came for communists, I was not concerned because I am not a communist, when they came for catholics, I was not concerned because I am not a catholic ....", well you should know the rest. |
I can see an eclipse now, but it now not eclipse of the sun, it is more eclipse of the cloud. There are massive clouds covering the sun. Reporting live from ikorodu. |
Ngwakwe: You are making the same mistake Falana (SAN) made when he invoked the FOI act demanding details of the Armoured Car bought for Madam minister, only to be rebuffed and informed that no such document exist. You cannot blame Barrister Falana for asking for demanding details of the Armoured Car bought for the minister. Her PA informed Nigerian and the whole world that the armoured BMWs were for the protection of the minister and that the minister's life is under treat. It was not until recently that the minister disowned the claim by her PA and stated that the cars were not meant for her. So now it is the NCAA that should provide documents and the physical cars for us to see. But madam aviation minister should be able to direct the DG of NCAA to produce the papers and the cars itself, so we can see that the cars were actually bought - inflated or not. There were documents showing 2 Armoured BMWs have been supplied by coscharis, but the chasis numbers of the ones allegedly supplied by Coscharis does not match tye owns shown the national assembly members. At least aunty stella herself should be interested about the whereabouts of these 2 BMW armoured cars. That is what I expect, if the culprit is the former Acting DG of the NCAA , he' should be investigated and charged if found wanting. I am sure if the minister is involved, it will come out during the trial. |
Ngwakwe: Was this your observation (unsubstantiated allegations) the cause of media lynching after the BMW armoured cars documents were exposed by Saharareporters? My Observations are; there are allegations against the aviation minister that the forced the NCAA to buy for her 2 armoured BMWs at an inflated price of $1.6, against her spending limit and against the public procurement act. The allegations were first made by sahara reporters as a result of a whistle blower within the ministry. Now these are mere allegations. Natually all sane nigerians would be outraged at the cost and opportunity cost of such a purchase at this time when everybody - federal, states, individuals are passing through difficult times. In response to the outrage, the house of assembly and the president decided to investigate the veracity of the claims. I am sure even the president is outraged and surprised at the allegations, because I am sure than even the president does not ride in an $800,000 car. Now these are just allegations and I expected the police, the EFCC and the ICPC to swing into action and commence investigations and if found culpable should be taken before a court of competent jurisdiction. What do we have? sensationizations of the whole saga. The house of assembly has started their usual circus. The house cannot prosecute a corruption case. The presidency seems confused because I do not understand why a special commitee had to be set up to investigate a corruption case. Of ourse the press and online media are excited to further sensationize the saga, as it means more sales and traffic and hence more money. In all these we have heard different and conflicting excuses from the PA to the minister, from the NCAA, the aviation ministry itself and even the minister. Revelations from the house is a conflicting as it is scandalous. Now my main grouse with your igbo brothers is that instead of asking that a proper investigation be carried out and if. found culpable aunty stella and her accoplices should have their day in court, we are hearing war treats and war songs, we are hearing the stupid excuse that past Yoruba aviation ministers had stolen, so it is ok if stel a steals also. Then the most rediculous that because Tinubu and Fashola is stealing lagos blind, so igbos should also be allowed to steal Nigeria blind. Go through my posts, I and Fashola supporters are always at loggerheads over Fashola's so called performance. When I go to warri, most of my family quarrel with me because I state the fact that my governors whose village is next to mine, is a criminal. They do not disagree but their grouse is that I am disgracing a fellow itsekiri and that he should not be disgraced. And I go what the fvck are they taking about? Igbos have been screaming for decades that they want power because they are better than all others and it is the maladministration, corruption and nepotism of the yorubas and hausas that have held Nigeria and them backwards, so I am now surprised that the arguments is now that others have stolen, so igbos should be allowed to steal their own share. |
ugomez: Fool, are you following the issue at all.she cannot approve above 100million in one fiscal year, but truth that 1st bank revealed yesterday showed that the payment was spread into 3 fiscal years.so you can see that she can't be held responsible cos in 3 yrs been given the chance to approve 100million per year, she has covered the payment. Secondly there is no possiblity that she will still be a minister in the next 3yrs.the perm.sec was blamed for not guiding her properly before she made the approval cos the perm.second is a seasoned civil servant while she is just a political appointee.thirdly, there is no single procurement act in nigerian law guiding such rent/lease transactions therefore that was why BPP was not involved and they were asked to come up with such guide lines but failed.finally it is against civil service act to be a whistle blower in your own office.if she survives this,a certain tribe will have enough unemployed basket mouth citizens sacked from avaition ministryBefore this Odua scandal I respected the inguinity and intelligence of the igbos a lot, but I am highly disappointed with excuses, half truths and outright lies being peddled around to support Oduah in the name of tribal solidarity. like the above quote is displaying. I hope the other igbos speak up to counter the impression that what I read here is mainstream igbo positions. First Bank revealed that the loan facility given NCAA was N643 million through mr Seyi Oyefeso who handled the transactions. This is not including the interest rate on the loan or lease facility. By the time the interest rate is included at between 25 - 30% per annum, I am sure the total sum involved would be above N1 billion. Now the procurement act states that a minister cannot approve a contract sum beyond N100 million without FEC approval, it does not matter if the contract span one year or 10 years. The approval limit of a minister is N100,000,000. This fact had been stated by BPP. Meanwhile this supply of 56 vehicles for NCAA is above N1 billion. So what are these people talking about? Please find out why Bode George went to jail. He was not jailed for stealing money, his offence is spending beyond hs approval limit. |
DerideGull: A basement dunce such as you should also inquire from Stella Oduah where all the push trucks, van, and food trucks purchased by NCAA for ministry of aviation parked, olodo. You are an evolutionary waste, with intelligence lower than that of a sloth. It is a pity I am force to inhibit the same country as your type. I would wish to quarantine your type to avoid being infected with stupidity. Stella Oduah approved the purchase of two BMW's at a whopping sum of $1.6 million. I have the right to demand for the whereabouts of the cars from her, since the money was public money from our collective purse ( mainly oil money from my region). If she can approve the purchases with a " do the needful" order, she can also produce the vehicles with the same do the needful order. |
Since you people are staunch supporters of Oduah because she is igbo, can you please help us ask her where the cars are parked. The two tokunbo BMW presented to the national assembly members were definitely not the american made armoured grade B7 BMW cars that cost $800,000 that we have been screaming about. So find out for us where the cars are, if the cars exists at all. |
kasiem: sir, if i should be given a waiver for importation of a "gift" as u posited, after one year of having that gift i decide to sell it off cos i no longer need it, is it criminal? Please get some education on tax laws. If tax waivers were granted for importation of a gift and then you decided to sell the gift after one year, you must inform tbe new buyers to pay the waived taxes. Unless the new buyers applied for and got waivers on the gift item also. If you have ever been to an embassy auction before, you will see the presence of custom officers who will collect custom duties on all goods bought, because foreign embassies do not pay duties for things the import for their use. In this case if lagos state government got tax waivers for cosharis to supply lagos state government with vehicles, then coscharis themselves or the new owners must pay custom duties on the cars. As things stand Coscharis or the NCAA is owing Nigerian customs the sum of N10.1 million . Besides I do not understant custom duty waivers granted o lagos state government last year for national sports festival applies to the order from NCAA this year, can someone more knowledgeable explain how it works? was the waiver back dated? |
Madam aviation minister, since you say the cars were not bought to protect you from Boko Haram, Niger delta militants and kidnappers, as first propounded by your personal assistant and your Igbo comrades, we now need to even see the cars. Have you set your eyes on the cars after you granted the approvals? if yes then instruct your boys to produce the cars so we too can have the pleasure of seeing $800,000 cars. Also instruct them to show all necessary papers concerning the cars. Please do not forget to tell them to do the needful again in carrying out these instructions. |
Where are the cars? right now I am interested in seeing the $800,000 cars. where are they parked? In Lagos, abuja or Stella's village? We deserve to at least have a glimpse of the amoured cars to assertain that cars were actually bought. |
If you go through the chronology of events, lots of things do not add up. 1. On April 15, 2013, NCAA officially requested authorisation from the Federal Ministry of Aviation to procure 56 operational vehicles through lease financing. 2. On May 24, 2013, the response received from the various banks to the Expression of Interest to finance the 56 vehicles. 3. evaluation of the expression of interests was held on May 31, 2013 during which First Bank Plc, Union Bank Plc and Stanbic IBTC emerged most responsive 4. On june 10, 2013 the above three banks were invited to submit Financial Proposals. First bank emerged the highest responsive bidder. 5. Between June 20 and 25, 2013, invoices were received from various accredited motor vehicle dealers during which only Coscharis Motors Limited quoted for BMW Security Vehicles. 6. On June 28, 2013, NCAA Parastatal Tenders Board approved the selection of First Bank Ltd for the Lease Financing as well as Metropolitan Motor Vehicles and Coscharis for the supply of the vehicles. All necessary approvals were duly sought and obtained accordingly. 7. Between July 8, 2013 to August, 12, 2013 various meetings were held with First Bank Ltd, contract agreement was signed and necessary documentation executed. Contradictions. 1. The armoured cars were cleared from tin can island ports on the 19 of June under the guise of lagos state to avoid paying custom duties. how come the cars were already in Nigeria on 19th of june when it was on the 28th of june that the NCAA tenders board approved the purchases? when was the contract approved for coscharis to supply the cars. I thought they said the cars were custom build and cannot be bought off the shelf. 2. Mr Seyi Oyefeso, the first bank staff that oversaw the loans said that First Bank granted a loan facility of N643 million for purchase of assorted cars on the 21 of May. Meanwhile the minister said that the contract with first bank was signed on July 8. Mr Oyefeso was not aware of the lease facility involving armoured BMWs. 3. The cars presented to the national assembly commitee was were not the cars in question as the chasis number is different from the chasis number of the ones imported by coscharis. So where are the 2 $1.6 million BMW specialized armoured cars? At least Nigerians deserve to know what $800,000 cars look like. Also where are the papers for the cars? where are the custom papers? the registration papers? the insurance papers? the NSA clearance papers. Let's see something that shows that the cars exist. |
Is this how the proposed conference will be? Is opinions contrary to popular opinions going to result in lynching? If a whole governors could be attacked just for airing his opinions, imagine what they will do to an ordinary citizen - ALUUism of course. And the format and details of the so called conference had not even been settled. |
Christians I am confused o. I thought Jesus was raised physically from the tomb or cave ( or sepulchre) he was placed in I thought he arose and continued preaching until he was physically taken up to heaven by angels in a cloud. How come we are now told that he had a grave where people could visit and pray to? |
enyice: @ wirinet,Yes, I agree we cannot continue this way. We are heading for disaster. Yes we must do all we can to make this country work. A break up would have catastrophic consequecies. Look at countries that broke up recently like yugoslavia and sudan, they are yet to settle. Then how many parts are we going to break up into? But I disagree that we should keep experimenting. We cannot experiment forever. We should learn to move from experimentation to actualization. We had experimemted palimentary system - it fail. We are experimenting presidential - it is failing. We had excperimented with most economic models profered by IMF and world bank - they all failed. We have tried socialism and capitalism - failure. So should we not sit back and look at ourselves, that the problem might be us and not the systems. No system can work for greedy, intolerant, unjust and selfish society. The reason an arab style revolution cannot happen in black africa is because of tribalism - we protect our own irrespective of crime commited. our sense of right and wrong is skewed by religious, tribal, political and other considerations. I am not scared of anything. The problem is no body had been able to explain what the dialogue entails. Who is dialoguing with who? How can a dialogue be held with and existing constitution and government. The only way I see the type of dialoguing people are clamouring happen is if a military coup takes place and the coupists suspends the constitution. Then they can constitute another body to engage in dialogue whether ethnic or other criteria, to rewrite a new constitution and then enact decrees that would guide the conference. Any other thing cannot stand judicial scrutiny. And besides the issues at stake are rather simple - Autonomy, resource control and more powers to the federating units. We don't need a conference to know what we want. Also do not forget, what the igbo elites want is different from what the ordinary igbo man in the street want. Same for the hausa, fulanis and other northerners. The ordinary hausa farmer or cattle rearer care less about oil. But the northern elite are ready to war to retain control of oil blocks. so who would represent the interests of the tribes - the elites or the ordinary citizens. |
I am surprised that theist do not have the ability to learn anything outside their religious biases and dogmas. Other atheist have explained these issues a gazillion times and the same questions come up again with alarming regularity. Even if they decide not to read Nairaland's atheists response to these questions, Google is there to out. These are the facts of atheism once again ; for the last time. 1. Atheism is a disbelief of all gods out of all the thousands of gods that had existed throughout human history. Monotheism is a belief in 1 god out of the thousands of other gods, while polytheism is a belief in multiple gods. The only common denominator of atheist is a lack of belief in all gods. Atheists holds wide and varied beliefs, someone like Tai Solarin does not accept or care about science - big bang or darwin evolutionary theories while carl sagan and dawkins believes in science. 2. Darwin was not an atheist, in fact he obtained a degree in Divination(theology) along with his degree in biology. Most atheists have never heard of Richard Dawkins and have never read any of his books. in fact atheism preceed Dawkins by thousands of years. So how can Richard Dawkins be the GO of atheism. I hope the question of what atheism is , about Darwinism or Dawkins being the creator of atheism does not come up again. |
jdilight: Thatz just an assumption, let get to the dialogue table first. The national conference should address the issue of tribal intorerance by point the nation to a direction, creation of value and mission for the country beside other issues. You have not responded to any of my questions regarding this dialogue. Where will this dialogue table be situated, and how many tables are there going to be? Who are the participants going to be and how are they going to be chosen. Remember Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groupings. How will a National Conference address tribal or racial intolerance? Can you legislate tolerance? Even FIFA that has tough legislations against racism still have huge problems in naturally racist countries. A national conference pointing the direction, mission and values for the whole is a recipe for disaster and that is exactly what we are trying to avoid. We are yearning for a federation where each unit can determine its own direction, mission and values using its own resources. |
Why do president Jonathan need to set up a committee to instigate the corruption allegation against Stella Oduah? What happened to EFCC; ICPC and the nigerian police? Are these not the agencies set up to investigate and prosecute corruption cases? If a committee had to be set up every time an allegation is raised against a public officer, then we should stop wasting money funding EFCC and ICPC. |
slimghost: Maybe you know something we don't sir but until both committees set up by the National Assembly and GEJ find her guilty of corrupt practice, decency demands that you and your kind should hold your peace. If my memory serves me right, the woman has come out and told the world how due process was followed in the procurement of those cars. If you and your SW brothers had no ulterior motive, one would have expected you guys to wait for the outcome of the ongoing investigations. Please be guided. Why can you also not wait for the outcomes of the various probe panels before exhonorating her and throwing insults on anybody who raises questions. You make it seems that she is beyond reproach because she is igbo. Because she said due process was followed does not mean we all must believe her, especially when national assembly and due process office think otherwise. |
jdilight: @ wirinet: A national conference should point a direction for the country, not necessarily to address corruption.A National Conference cannot point the direction for any country. What nigerian national conference would be all about will be how to distribute power and resources - nothing more. And i know the greed and the only my interest attitudes of the various tribes would lead to lots of acrimony and distrust. I as an architect believes in studying case studies to ensure success of projects, now tell me where the type of National Conference you are advocating for had succeeded, so we would study how it will work. Although i an not a fan of the present constitution, it is the only tool we have. So it will be sensible to use that as a starting point. We should make sure we elect legislators that can propagate our concerns and change the constitution one section at a time. The main issues with the nigerian constitution is resource control, state and local government autonomy and devolution of powers from the federal to the states. And proper separation of powers between the executive, legislator and judiciary, both at federal and state level. But the most important issue is spiritual and moral development to do what is right. A conference would not stop an ijebu from discriminating against an egba or from aruchukwu discriminating again anioma. |
I am trying to wrap my head around the arguments by biafrans. In summery, their main point is that since Fani kayode, abolished and other former ministers of yoruba extraction have looted public funds, igbo ministers should be allowed their quota of looting also. And that no yoruba person has the moral justification to question any igbo public officer, since igbos did not query yorubas when they were looting. Only in Nigeria. |
Emperor_007: National Conference is long over due, and Nigerians are ready for it because they've been asking for it.Please tell me the structure of this National Conference, that will magically solve all Nigeria's problems. Who are going to do the debates? The regions, states, tribes or sub tribes, political parties, associations, etc. How will the debaters be picked? Where will be the venue(s)? What will be the legal status of the debates? How will the debates become law? Going through the national, states assembles and the president or through a referendum? Remember, the nigerian constitution makes no provision for referendums. Then how will the debates lead to nigerian obeying the laws? Will the debates stop stealing of federal, states, local governments, associations funds? Will the debates make nigerians compassionate on their neighbours and even brothers? Will debates stop greed, get rich quick syndrome, lawlessness and other vanity induced vices afflicting nigerians? My take on the socalled magical conference is that, it will just be anarchy. Building a just and egalitarian society is a gradual and slow evolutionary process. The most important factor is the level of spiritual (not religious) development of the people, where justice fairness and equity is engraved in the peoples heart. |
CHESSBOARD: Oboy did you go to school at allyou talk like an average ladipo spare part seller. How much oil is imo, anambra and anambra contributing to nigeria's total? Did you even pass elementary geography? Look up the meaning of delta and show me any map that includes any igbo state as part of the Niger-Delta. As "enterprising" as you said igbos are, can you list the IGRs of all the igbo states, and then tell me if the amount alone can sustain the igbo states. |
This defense is extremely weak at best, it lacks substance and reason. Since most nigerians think with their heart instead of their brain, so it is no surprise that people hail or condemn the response without even reading it fully not to talk of digesting it. A clause by clause analysis of the response reveals a hurriedly and badly though out write-up. 1. We know the statutory functions of the NCAA, what is in question here is how two armoured vehicles for the minister fit that statutory functions. 2. How is the two armoured cars an essential tool and equipment for the smooth regulation of the aviation industry. How can armoured cars be used as operational vehicles for the aviation industry? Are they specially equipped with aviation equipment. Are there other countries that use armoured cars as aviation operational vehicles? Is it standard practice? How are the two specialized armoured vehicles going to cover 22 airports and 400 airstrips? 3. What did the 2013 budget make provision for? Specialized equipments, operational vehicles or armoured cars? But specialized equipment cannot transform to armoured BMW cars. Now the armoured vehicles are specialized to chauffeur NCAA foreign guests. Again do NCAA guests deserve special treatments from any other guest to Nigeria? 4. Due process followed? Lets see. 1. April 15, 2013, NCAA requested for approval of the ministry for 56 operational vehicles through leasing financing? What are the details of the request? What is the total cost of the 56 operational vehicles. Approval was granted pronto by the minister. So what are the financing details? Three banks seems to be falling over themselves to express interest. At what interest rate is first bank financing the purchases. What happened to the other 54 operational vehicles? Dont have time now, would try and conclude later, but a clause by cause analysis shows so many contradictions. |
Governor Yuguda is just being truthful unlike all others who lives in a perpetual state of self denial. Only Lagos State can survive without oil and that is even debatable as Lagos would find it difficult without free oil money from Abuja. Even with oil money Lagos is highly indebted. Even the igbo states would crumble without handouts from Abuja. What is the internal generated revenue of all the SE states. I dare the governors to release their IGR figures like Yuguda, it would be shameful. The SW is not much better. Nigeria as a whole is build around free oil money explored and exported by foreigners. Nigeria as a whole would crumble the day oil dries out. |
I get angry when i read the views of igbo bigots, their thinking faculty is lower than that of a monkey. Someone is accusing an igbo woman of corruption and gross vanity, and instead of demanding for a full investigation of the allegations, they are playing the ethnic card by claiming that she is being persecuted because of her tribe and because of internationalization of Enugu airport and other stupid excuses. I am sure these allegations would be child's play after a full investigation of all the agencies she oversees. The biafran bigots can choose to play the tribal card all they want, but the truth will come out. Now i am sure biafra would have been taken over as the most corrupt nation on earth given the way you people defend allegations of corruption against igbo people. |
manny4life: This man's ridiculousness is getting outta hand by the day, as much as I despise the NPF, why will a foreign organization carry out the statutory function of the NPF? This shows our system is decayed and needs serious overhaul, there's no more trust in NPF and while they're yet to reach a resolve on their investigation, they should halt their activities and arrest them immediately. Hiring local contractors as your security is one thing, hiring foreigners let alone to perform NPF duties is gross misconduct, an abuse of rule of law. Ameachi should be disciplined.tell me what you will advice Amaechi to do as the " chief security officer" of the state, since his commissioner of police no longer takes orders from him. And if you dont know, this is not the first time Israelis would be contacted to provide security in Nigeria. Under IBB, the Israelis were in charge of the personal security of the president. OBJ handed our entire security network to the Americans, that was why Malu fell out with OBJ. So quit blaming Amaechi from trying to protect himself from getting the "Ngige" treatment or the "bola ige" treatment. |
Sunny_bobo: Probably because Oduah faces more threat to her life than the British PM.With thinking like this, we will be perpetually be referred to under-developed nation. If an ordinary aviation minister needs to move around in an armoured car, what will more crucial ministers like defense, finance, petroleum move around in - armoured tanks? What about governors, they should need armoured helicopters and jets. Then the president would need armoured personel carriers built to move on land. After armoured car, what of her body? Should it not be armoured too. Well i hear you can get bullet proof and bomb proof from babalawo, but i trust madam aviation would go to India to get the original at millions of dollars. Public officials who feels this insecure have no business in government, if they feel they have to remain isolated and insulated from the public, why take up the position of a public officer? |
I dont want to analyse all your so called intelligent eating food, but what i do know is your inclusion of sugar is spurious. Sugar is essential for the smooth operation of the the body including the brain. There are 8 essential sugars necessary for the smooth operation of the body. Google glyconutrients. In fact the body uses sugar in complex ways that is not even fully understood yet. Yes, refined sugar can pose serious risk, but it is not correct to say sugar can affect the brain negatively. Have you forgotten that even carbohydrates which constitutes up to 90% of our diet is a sugar? |
We itsekiri have been eating banga soup, owo, egun obobo(pounded ripe plantain with palm oil), yam and palm oil with pepper soup and red oil for centuries before the white men came and we have very little incident of heart attack. In fact you will hardly find heart disease in itsekiri villages where palm oil is consumed everyday. So many things can lead to heart disease especially a modern lifestyle where we eat lots of fatty food or high cholesterol diet, with salt and spices, have very little exercise and undergo lots of work related stress. |
strangest: No matter how you look at it... Ngige still remains the first governor to be kidnapped by his associates... He cannot secure the lives of Anambrarians cos he could't secure his own while in office...You people reason like children, how can anybody say Ngige was kidnapped. Ngige was abducted by the nigerian police under orders from the de-facto chief security officer of the state (commissioner of police), under orders from Chris Uba and Baba. It took orders from the then vice president before he was released. So how is that Ngige's fault. It is like blaming Amaechi for the orders from Mbu barring him from entering government house. Ngige was not the first governors to be abducted, all the governors of the second republic including the president was abducted by Buhari and his fellow coupists. Obi and his acolytes needs to stop talking like retards |

, so Abia, IMO and Anambra do not have oil or are they not part of Niger Delta..... anyway enterprising Igbos dont really need oil to survive
